    CALVIN FRED BOWERS
    Calvin Fred Bowers, 52, died at the home of his son, Paul Bowers, 207 Academy St. Friday morning, Feb. 8. Funeral services will be held at the Christian Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. R. N. Owen and Judge W. R. Allen officiating. Interment will be held at the Bowers Cemetery in Siam.
    Pallbearers will be John Campbell, M. L. Carriger, C. R. Hathaway, Dave McQueen, W. L. Hampton, William Tilley, Hacker Carriger and Carriger Bradley.
    Curtis-North Funeral Home will be in charge.

    C. F. Bowers died Friday at the age of 52, after a brief illness leaving a widow, Mrs. Cora Bowers and three sons, William, Paul and Harry Bowers. Deceased came of an old and well known family of Carter County being a son of the late Rev. John L. Bowers a noted and well beloved minister in the Baptist church. Fred Bowers was above the average in intelligence and had a most pleasing personality and had been a very successful solicitor of insurance and salesman in other lines of business in which his talent for salesmanship was fully demonstrated.
    His funeral took place at the Christian Church on Sunday in the presence of large and sympathetic audience in charge of Rev. R. M. Owen, pastor of the Baptist church here and Judge W. R. Allen, a lifelong friend with appropriate and impressive services.
    The pallbearers were Maj. C. R. Hathaway, John Campbell, W. L. Hampton, Dave McQueen, M. L. Carriger, G. C. Carriger, Carriger Bradley and William Tillie.
    Interment was in the Bowers Cemetery at Siam.

    Charles Edward Bowers Sr., 93, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at his residence, following an extended illness. Charles was a native of Carter County and a son of the late William and Gertrude Cooke Bowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Mae Mayse Bowers; one sister, Lois Bowers Russell; and a step-brother, Raymond Rosenbalm. Mr. Bowers retired from North American Rayon Corporation and was of the Free Will Baptist faith. He was a United States Army veteran, where he served in World War II. He was in the Wolf Hound Infantry in Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the DAV, the American Legion Post 49, the VFW Post 2166 and the Carter County Honor Guard. Survivors include two daughters, Cora Greenwell and husband Jimmy and Betty Crum and husband Ray, all of Elizabethton; one son, Charles Bowers Jr.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Bowers and Deacon Bowers and wife Carol, all of Elizabethton; one sister, Bernice Davis and husband Glen, Elizabethton; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special companions, his dogs, "Little Boy" and "Oscar." A service to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. Charles Edward Bowers Sr. will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, July 24, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Jerry Davis and Rev. Hobart Bradshaw officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence of a daughter, Cora Greenwell, 104 Russell Hill Road, Elizabethton, at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard, who will also serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his fellow members of the DAV, American Legion Post 49 and the Carter County Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Caris Hospice, especially Judy and Stacey, for the love and care given to Mr. Bowers during his illness.

    Mrs. Betty Jane Crum, 68, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on Sunday, May 28, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Elizabethton, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Flora Mae Mayse Bowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Russell, and two brothers, Charles Bowers Jr. and Raymond Rosenbaum.
    Mrs. Crum was a member of God's House Full Gospel Church and was a Christian lady with a loving heart who loved to read her Bible. She was a loving wife and sister also.
    Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 22 years, Ray Crum, of the home; a sister, Cora Bell Greenwell, Elizabethton; and two nieces, Melissa Miller and Pam Tester, both of Elizabethton. Several other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
    A service to honor the life of Mrs. Crum will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3, in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Pastor Jerry Davis and Pastor Kim Casey officiating. Music will be under the direction of Pastor Kim Casey. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow the funeral service at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
