    David was originally buried in the Cable Cemetery, located on the left bank of the Watauga River, 100 feet from Elk River Road, in the Lower Elk Community. His death notice was provided by James Cable of Butler. When the Watauga Dam was built,the TVA inventoried all cemeteries that would be covered, attempted to contact the next of kin for those buried in those cemeteries, and made arrangements for the remains to be reinterred elsewhere. Arthur Cable advised TVA that he was David's grandson, and directed that his remains be reinterred in the Whitehead Cemetery. This cemetery is located near where the Cable Cemetery was located, and is on high ground overlooking Watauga Lake. It is between Little Milligan Community and Elk Mills Community, on US Highway 321. It is one of the prettiest spots on Watauga Lake.

    Sam was probably named after Joseph Gervais. Joseph was a French-Canadian, later American, pioneer settler and trapper in the Pacific Northwest. Joseph joined the Pacific Fur Company, a venture owned by John Jacob Astor. After trapping throughout the Oregon territiory for the Hudson's Bay Company,[7] Gervais permanently settled on French Prairie at the site of what is now the town of Gervais. This is the area where Sam's father Joseph Alexander DeLoach came seeking employment between 1910 and 1920. It is more than a coincidence that Joseph named his first two sons Gervais and Astor.

    About a year after the DeLoach family moved to Johnson City, Tennessee, Sam officially changed his name to Samuel Carter, the name of his grandfather. Sam joined the Civil Conservation Corps after the DeLoach family moved to Johnson City. Following a tour of duty at the Morristown, TN, camp, he attended East Tennesse State Normal College for a quarter. He dropped out of college, and had a series of odd jobs. Following the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, he was drafted into the Army. After reporting to Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, for Basic Training, he found that he did not like Army life and decided to come home to Tennessee. After a short period at home, he was arrested for being Absent Without Leave, and returned to Fort Oglethorpe. Realizing that he was going to have to stay in the Army, he began applying himself rigorously to his military tasks, and was soon selected for Officer Candidate School (OCS). By the end of WW II, he had advanced to the grade of Major in the Transportation Corps. Following the war, there was an Army-wide reduction of force, and Sam was given the rank of Master Sergeant and retained on active Army duty. When the Korean War broke out, he was returned to officer status, and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. He retired at this rank in 1956. Following his Army career, Sam became a real estate salesman in the Monterrey Bay area of California. He did quite well in this business, but after several years, found the long hours and weekend work distasteful. He and June sold their home in Monterrey, and moved to Walnut Creek, CA. After a short stint in full retirement, he got a job as a security guard at the Oakland Army Depot. He retired from this job when he was in his early 60's.

    Mike DeLoach grew up in Campbell Hollow, near Doeville in Johnson County, Tennessee. He attended Doeville Elementary School and the Watauga Academy in Butler, Tennessee. When his family moved to Washington County in about 1934, he attended Jonesborough High School, where he graduated with honors and was the president of his class. His first employment was with the North American Rayon Corporation in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He grew tired of the shift work and working conditions at NARC, and quit that job in 1952. After holding a couple of temporary jobs as a used car salesman and working in the Circulation Department of the Johnson City Press Chronicle, he became a full time carpenter. He worked for several construction contractors, and later became a Building Trades Instructor at Daniel Boone High School in Gray, Tennessee. During his life, he was an active member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, and the Fairview Methodist Church in the Fairview Community near Jonesborough. He was the first Cubmaster for Pack 38, sponsored by the Calvary Presbyterian Church, and was instrumental in making their scouting program a success. He was active in community projects and church commitees in Fairview. One of his lasting legacies was his love for the outdoors, a love which he deeply instilled in all his children.

    She was a very loving mother and grandmother.

    Mrs. Isenberg was a housekeeper.

    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Isenberg was preceded in death by her husband, Karl Isenberg; two daughters, Robin Isenberg and Annette Isenberg; one son, Keith Isenberg; five brothers, Pete Deloach, Samuel Carter Deloach, Mike Deloach, Jack Deloach and Max Deloach; two sisters, Hazel Beard and Lena Kate Miller.

    Survivors include one daughter, Janet Isenberg, Johnson City; grandchildren, Shannon Earp, Candice Earp Ayers, Courtney Thrift, Adam Isenberg and Devon Isenberg; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Baxley, San Jose, CA, and Lucy Beckham, West Lafayette, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

    There will be no formal service for Mrs. Isenberg. Friends may visit the family at the home of grandson, Shannon Earp, 3517 Chelsea Ln, Johnson City, TN, 423-747-3507, between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM Friday, July 11, 2008.

A lifelong resident of Johnson City, Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and a member of Grandview Christian Church. She loved gardening, painting, and flower arranging. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Jones & her husband, Tom, of Anchorage, AK; Pamela Reed of Johnson City and her fiancé, Dennis Stitt, of Bristol, TN; and Carol Newland & her husband, John, of Chattanooga; her sons, Peter Miller & his fiancé, Laura Ramirez, of Yorktown, VA; Jonathan Miller & his wife, Sheila, of Johnson City; and David Miller of Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Mark Jones, Brian Jones, Sarah Jones, Jason Reed, Lane Reed, Elyse Newland, Mandy Miller, and Jessica Miller; a great-grandson, Cameron Miller; her sisters, Marie Baxley of San Jose, CA; Hazel Beard of Vacaville, CA; Lois Isenberg of Johnson City; and Lucy Beckham of Knoxville; her brother, Max DeLoach of Johnson City; and several nieces & nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Stitt, Joe Reed, Michael DeLoach, David Millsap, and Jesse Crooks. Bernice was born in Johnson County, TN on July 28, 1924, to the late Floyd and Mary Williams Snyder. She lived most of her life in Elizabethton and was a member of the First Christian Church in Elizabethton. Some of her favorite activities included quilting, sewing, and exercising.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Austin, her brothers and sisters: Pauline Simcox, Juanita Lasater, John L. Snyder, Floyd Snyder Jr., and Yvonne McEwen.

    Bernice is survived by her son Carl Samuel Austin, Jr. and wife Lee Anne, Colbert, GA; grandson Samuel Blake Austin and wife Bradley, Dalton, GA; granddaughters Elizabeth Anne Austin, Atlanta, GA; and Emily Marie Austin, Colbert, GA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as good friends, Cathy Ross and Ronnie Snavely.

    The graveside service and entombment will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Monday, December 5, 2022 in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Michael Klaus officiating.

A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Floyd & Mary Williams Snyder. Yvonne was a 1953 graduate of Johnson County High School. She had lived in Elizabethton for 64 years. She attended Happy Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Pauline Simcox and Juanita Lassieter and two brothers: Floyd Snyder, Jr. and John L. Snyder.

    Survivors include her husband of 66 years: Harold McEwen. Two Sons: Doug (Teresa) McEwen, Bowling Green, Kentucky and Steve (Paula) McEwen, Elizabethton. Four Grandchildren: Brandon McEwen, Brandon Sosa, Caleb Jones and Heather Jones. He Sister: Bernice Austin, Elizabethton. Several Nieces & Nephews.

    Graveside Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2020 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Joe Searfoss officiating. Burial will follow the service. Music will be provided by John Bunn. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Monday will be: Mark Hill, Dan Britt, Jim Lonon, Cody Stout, and R.E. Brown.     Mrs. Wilhoit was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City.

    She was a daughter of Lois E. Deloach Isenberg, Johnson City, and the late Karl Marx Isenberg.

    Mrs. Wilhoit was a homemaker as well as a loving mother and grandmother.

    She was a 1971 graduate of Science Hill High School.

    In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Wilhoit, and her brother, Keith Isenberg.

    In addition to her mother, Mrs. Wilhoit is survived by one son, Kyle Shannon Earp, Johnson City; one daughter, Candice Ayers, Johnson City; two sisters, Karla Birchfield and Janet Isenberg, both of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Cody Reed, Dawn Reed, Megan Earp and Jessica Earp, all of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.

    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters Karla Annette Birchfield, Lisa Robyn Wilhoit, and her brother, Larry Keith Isenberg.

    Surviving family is her daughter, Courtney (Robinson) Thrift and husband Lee of Winston Salem NC, ex-husband and part-time care-taker Kenneth Robinson of Johnson City TN, Neices Candice (Candi) (Earp) Ayers of TN, Amy (Isenberg) Kelley of TN, Nephews Kyle Shannon Earp and wife Becky of TN, and Adam Isenberg of GA.
