JOHNSON, OSCAR ANDREW, age 82, of Jefferson City, formerly of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed way at 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, January 21, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City following a brief illness. He was a member of the Covenant Life Church in Morristown and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. Mr. Johnson was a retired employee of the Jefferson City Water Works. Survivors include his wife, Pauline "Polly" Johnson of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Alice and Phillip Stapleton of Jefferson City, Joyce and Rick Stephens of Jefferson City, Nancy and Tommy Taylor of Chestnut Hill; son and daughter-in-law, James and Lisa Johnson of Jefferson City; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Hettie Chaffin of Virginia, and Dorothy Miller of Mountain City, Tennessee; brothers, Conley Johnson of North Carolina and Earl Johnson of Mountain City, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. Earl S. Johnson, age 82, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Watauga Medical Center. He was born on September 29, 1930 to the late Lilly Johnson. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by sisters and brothers-in-law: Irene and Wade Dunn, Ruth and Clayton Mains, Betty Johnson and Hettie Chafin and Hattie Johnson; brothers and sister-in-law: Oscar and Polly Johnson, Bruce Johnson and Sam Johnson one granddaughter, Reba Michelle Harper and two great grandchildren, Riley Edmisten and Dominic Johnson.

Earl was a retired farmer and still enjoyed being outdoors, farming, fishing and building bird houses. He had served as Johnson County Constable for 35 years. Earl had also owned and operated Johnson Fence Company for many years. Earl was a faithful man and had served as Deacon through the years and currently serves as Deacon at New Hope Baptist Church. Earl loved his family and spending time with him. He will deeply be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Lucille Lipford Johnson; daughters and sons-in-law: Missy and David Hightower, Angie and Steve Edmisten and Linda and Dean Harper; sons and daughters-in-law: Lee and Janice Johnson, Lloyd Johnson, Anthony Johnson and special friend, Mary Alice Herdman and William and Janet Johnson, Aaron and Mistee Johnson ; sister, Dorothy Miller; brother, Conley Johnson; grandchildren: Bobby Johnson, Susan Johnson, Shannon Harper, Joe Johnson, Rosanna Eggers, Charity Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Gregory Johnson, Michael Price, Reba Blevins, Gloria Newsome, Nikki Edmisten, Crystal Edmisten, David Hightower, Jennifer Hightower, Daniel Hightower, Matthew Hightower, Erica Hightower and Ethan Hightower; twenty-nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was born in Johnson County, TN on October 10, 1925 to the late Joe Norris and Ila Reece Norris. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Burnis Horne; daughter, Lois Marie Cress; sisters: Laura Sue Norris, Josephine Revelle and Catherine Absher and brothers: Junior Clay Norris, Mack Norris, and Jimmy Dean Norris.

Mary loved working in her flowers, yard work, and gardening. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Ruby Mae Harper, age 89, went to be with her lord on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at the Mountain City Care Center. She was born on October 23, 1930 to the late Joe Norris and Ila Thelma Reece Norris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Harper; son, Wayne Harper; son-in-law, Lester Rominger; sisters, Elizabeth Horne, Laura Sue Norris, Josephine Revelle, Catherine Absher; brothers, Junior Clay Norris, Mack Norris, and Jimmy Dean Norris.

Ruby loved to quilt, crochet, work in her flowers, have yard sales, set on her front porch, cook big meals for her family at holidays, and make apple butter the old fashioned way. She raised her children with a firm , but loving, hand. She was called by many names, but the ones she loved most was being called “Mamaw” by her grandchildren and “Granny” by her precious great-grandchildren.

Special thanks go to the CNA’s, nurses, and staff/volunteers at Mountain City Care Center Hall TWO, who took such good care of Ruby and loved her as a grandmother. Her favorite past time while there was when the ladies read to her from the Bible. They became family to Ruby, and will never be forgotten. Other very special caregivers were Phyliss Morefield, Everett Dunn, Annalee Lowe, and Susan Morefield.

The family received friends from 12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Mountain City Funeral Home. Funeral service followed at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Gale Hartley and Pastor Steven Spencer to officiate. Graveside service and burial will immediately follow the funeral at Wilson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kevin Rominger, Jesse Rominger, Ryan DeJonge, Trey Gurley, Joe Horn, and Joe Mack Cress. Lloyd Ray Johnson age 64, of Mountain City, TN passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, TN. He was born in Banner Elk, NC on August 16, 1956 to the late Earl Johnson and Lucille Lipford Johnson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Anthony Johnson and Lee Johnson.

Lloyd loved hunting and fishing. He liked to go to the lake and he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

Robert Lee Johnson, age 60 of Mountain City, entered his heavenly home on Thursday, June 30, 2020 at his home. Lee was born on January 18, 1960 to Earl and Lucille Johnson in West Grove, PA. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Anthony Johnson and entered heaven’s gates meeting his babies he never met on this earth.

Lee was a one of a kind man who would give you the coat off of his back. There was no greater love than he had for his wife and children. Lee was a loving husband for almost 43 years and the greatest Husband, Daddy, and Pawpaw one could ever ask for. He was a brother, a son, an uncle, a friend, an everlasting light in everyone’s life that will never be forgotten.

Larry Anthony Johnson, age 54, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016. He was born on February 5, 1962 to Lucille Johnson and the late Earl S. Johnson. In addition to his father, Anthony was preceded in death by a grandson, Dominique Johnson.

Anthony was an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed ginseng hunting and fishing. Anthony also enjoyed watching westerns. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

MOUNTAIN CITY – Mrs. Lois Marie Horne Cress, age 66, of 158 J. Cress Road, Mountain City, TN went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus on Sunday, April 19, 2009, in the Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was the daughter of Elizabeth Norris Horne and the late Burnis Horne. Mrs. Cress was a seamstress for thirty-five years at Levi Strauss and her hobbies included gardening, sewing and canning. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Jewel Cress.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include: her husband, Joe Mack Cress, of the home; one son: Nathaniel Steven Cress of Lowell, NC; one sister: Alice Roberts and husband Gary of Mountain City, TN; one brother: Joe Horne and wife Carol of Mountain City, TN; two nephews: Timothy Horne of Mountain City, TN and Gary Horne of Strawberry Plains, TN; five wonderful sisters-in-law: Carol Horne, Margaret Cress, Ann Cress, Charlotte Cress, all of Mountain City, TN and Dorothy Cress of Midlothian, VA.

Funeral services for Lois Marie Horne Cress will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009, from Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Spencer, Mr. Michael Icenhour, and Mr. Haskel Ingram officiating. Music will be by Calvary Baptist Church Choir.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009, from Browns Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Timothy Horne, Gary Horne, Jim Cress, John Cress, Sam Cress and Dennis Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Men's Sunday School Class and Deacons of Calvary Baptist Church.
