    SHADY VALLEY, Tenn. -- George D. Jenkins, 90, of 358 George Jenkins Road, passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. Mr. Jenkins was a native of Johnson County and was born on Feb. 22, 1912, to the late Nathaniel and Mollie Michael Jenkins. He was an honorary staff member of the Fourth Legislative District, appointed colonel aide de camp on the Governor's staff, a former Johnson County road commissioner and retired farmer. Mr. Jenkins was a member of Ackerson Creek Christian Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Taylor Jenkins; a son, George Jenkins Jr.; six brothers, Jess, Tom, Carl, Roy, Wes and Bob Jenkins; two sisters, Vennie Jenkins and Dora Dyson; and a granddaughter, Michele Sluder.

    Survivors: two daughters, Betty and husband Herbert Sluder, Winchester, Va., and Edith Jenkins, Shady Valley; two sons, Edsel and wife June Jenkins, Bristol Tennessee, and Ralph and wife Bessie Jenkins, Mountain City, Tenn.; two sisters, Annis Winters, Damascus and Louise Duvall, Mountain City; six grandsons; one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Mr. Jim Hutchinson and Mr. Jim Sherman to officiate. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Blevins Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Terry Hutchinson, Dr. Floyd Barker, Tony Long, Randall Garland, Christopher Garland, Jim Plummer, Gerald Buckles, Mike Robinson and Lonnie Long. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Callahan, Tom Bentley, Bob Doyle, Leonard Lewis, Wade Woods, Jim May, Jeff Love, Brett Keesee, Dr. Floyd Barker and Dr. Emory Robinette.

    The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home.

    Dora Dyson, 81, Damascus, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia. She was a native of Johnson County, Tennessee, a daughter to the late Nat and Molly Jenkins and had lived in Damascus, Virginia for the past 40 years. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two daughters, three sons, two sisters, Annis Winters and Louise Duvall, one brother, George Jenkins.

    Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 13, 2000 at 2 p.m. in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Warren Wilson and Rev. Frank Woods officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park. Johnson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

    Dorothy Lee Scott, age 90, passed away on December 30, 2021 at Mountain City Care and Rehab. Dorothy was born in Shady Valley on February 9, 1931 in Shady Valley to the late Jesse Taylor Jenkins and Nelle Mae Neely Jenkins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Alton Scott and the father of her daughter, Loyd Lowe.

    Dot is now running down the streets of gold to meet her husband, Charles and all her other loved ones. Dot was an active member of the Shady Valley Presbyterian Church and past moderator of the Ladies Circle. She served on several county committees and boards, including director of the Shady Valley Senior Citizens, Bristol, VA utilities board and worked for Raytheon.

    Dot always looked beautiful and never looked or acted her age. People loved coming to visit and talking to her because she always listened and told you what she thought. She had many friends and made many more at the care facility. She loved music of all kinds, she was an avid reader, loved shopping and watching the Hallmark channel. She also loved all of the four legged friends who came to visit.

    Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Lorrie Shumate and husband John; brother, Carroll Jenkins and wife Eloise; nephews, Jeff Jenkins and wife Cindy, Greg Jenkins and wife Tabitha; several cousins.

    Carroll Dean Jenkins, 84, passed away at the Bristol Regional Hospital on September 27, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Nelle (Neely) Jenkins; sister, Dorothy Scott, and brother-in-law, Charles Scott.

    He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Eloise Patton Jenkins; two sons, Jeff Jenkins and wife Cindy, Greg Jenkins and wife Tabitha; three grandchildren, Colton, Lenzie, and Andrew; sister in law, Karen Buckles and husband Gerald; brother in law, Max Patton and wife Lucy; niece, Lori Shumate and husband John.

    Carroll was a 1957 graduate of Johnson County High School. During his life, Carroll served our country in the United Sates Army, he worked in sales and managed his own business, and also worked for Kennemetal for 20 years before his retirement. His passion was gardening and yard work He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed collecting guns. Carroll was a member of Shady Valley Church of Christ and was baptized on April 1, 2020.

    The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Blevins Cemetery in Shady Valley, TN with Minister David B. Jones officiating.

    Ralph Jenkins, age 73, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 21, 2017. He was born on May 25, 1943 in Johnson County, TN to the late George and Mary Ellen Taylor Jenkins. In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by his brother, George D. Jenkins Jr. and by a brother-in-law, Herbert Sluder.
    Ralph was an avid outdoorsman who truly loved the outdoors. He especially loved fishing, gardening and working in his yard. He retired from Hanes Brand Inc. in 2008. He was a member of Mountain City Church of Christ.
    Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 32 years, Bessie Eastridge Jenkins; sons: Stewart, Kevin and Micah; step sons: Jerry Stanley, Steven Stanley and Tony Stanley; sisters: Betty Sluder of Winchester, VA and Edith Jenkins of Shady Valley, TN; brother, Edsel Jenkins and wife June of Bristol, TN; several grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Funeral service for Ralph will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Buddy Morefield officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. prior to the service. Graveside service and entombment will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Tony Stanley, Jerry Stanley, Steve Stanley, Justin Stanley, Derek Baker and Ron Shupe. Honorary pallbearer is Ken Lane.

    Ralph married Bessie Lee Eastridge about 1964.     Bob Jenkins, age 79, of Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017 in Watauga Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born February 28, 1938 to the late Roy Jenkins and Nina Cannon Jenkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James and sister-in-law, Lucille Jenkins; a sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Roger Crowder; a brother-in-law, Claude Egger and Shirley Eggers Jenkins, the mother of his children.

    He was a member of Ackerson Creek Church of Christ and enjoyed gardening and farming and spending time with is family.

    Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter: Karen Jenkins of Mountain City, TN; one son: Darren Jenkins and wife April of Trade, TN; one sister: Ann Jenkins Eggers; four grandchildren: Christi Gentry and husband Brad; Cheri Lipford and husband Craig, all of Mountain City, TN; Dustin Jenkins and Julia Jenkins, both of Trade, TN. Four great-grandchildren: Abby Lipford, Peyton Gentry, Cristen (C.J.) Lipford and Ella Gentry, all of Mountain City, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    The family would like to extend a special thank you to Silver Angels in home care, Emily McQueen, FNP, Johnson County Rescue Squad and the Staff of Mountain City Care Center.

    Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. from the Charles B. Hux Chapel at Hux-Lipford Funeral Home with Minister Bud Gentry officiating.

    Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment will be 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 9, 2017 from Reece Memorial Cemetery. Everyone will meet at 1:30 p.m. at the Hux-Lipford Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers are: Dustin Jenkins, Brad Gentry, Craig Lipford, Larry Eggers, Gary Eggers, Jimmy Jenkins and Ray Jenkins. Honorary pallbearers are: Tim and K.C. Keene, Mountain City Care Center Doctors and Staff, Johnson County Rescue Squad and EMS.

    Charles "Chuck" Nathaniel Jenkins Sr., age 64, of 432 D. Reece Road, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center on Monday, April 8, 2019. He was born May 10, 1954, in Mountain City, Tennessee to Robert "Bob" Ray Jenkins and Mary Chessie Corum Jenkins. In addition to his father, Chuck was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Luke Reece.

    Chuck was a retired service technician with Heritage Propane. Chuck was a very active member of the Mountain City Church of Christ, where he was an elder, teacher, and the treasurer. He enjoyed woodworking, riding motorcycles, fishing and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

    He was a member of the Johnson County High School class of 1972.

    Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife of 43 years, Diane Reece Jenkins; a son, Nathan Jenkins and wife Rebecca of Johnson City, Tennessee; a daughter, Lesley Hughes and husband Josh of Johnson City, Tennessee; his mother, Mary Chessie Jenkins of Mountain City, Tennessee; a sister, Patricia Jackson and husband Ralph of Bristol, Virginia; grandchildren, Eli and Savannah Jenkins and Jordan Hughes. He is also survived by a nephew, David Arnold and wife Kim of Bristol, Virginia; a great niece, Ellie Arnold; mother-in-law, Mary Reece; sister-in-law, Carolyn Dalton and husband Bob of Walland, Tennessee; brother-in-law, David Reece and wife Jennifer of Maryville, Tennessee; nephews Robby Reece and Lucas Reece; a niece Anna Reece.

    Funeral Services for Chuck will be conducted on Friday, April 12, 2019, at 7:00 pm from the Mountain City Church of Christ with Ministers Chuck Stewart and Terry Jones to officiate. The family will receive friends from 4:30 pm until 7:00 pm prior to the funeral service. Graveside service and interment for Chuck will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the Jenkins Cemetery on Ackerson Creek Road. Active Pallbearers will be Johnny Howard, Dustin Roush, Van Neely, Eric Wallace, David Arnold, Brad Woods, Rick Moore, and Brad Reece. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Trivette, Bud Townsend, Joe Simcox, Mike Adams, Bill Cockett, Larry Vanherants, Tom Tester, Steve Hawkins, Jeff Rupard, Aaron Cornett, John Greever, Tony Rhudy, and Jim Neely.
