    Robert Wayne Grindstaff, 72, of Roan Mountain, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
    He was born September 20, 1946 in Banner Elk, N.C., to the late Roe Grindstaff and the late Jessie Dula Grindstaff Ellison.
    Robert was a 1964 graduate of Cranberry High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Robert was a house painter and a member of Whitehead Hill Bible Christian Church. He loved NASCAR Racing and was a Duke Basketball Fan.
    Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Lynda Waycaster Grindstaff; a son, Brian Wayne Grindstaff; one grandson, Asher Wayne Grindstaff; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank Carson and Kay Grindstaff of Pennsylvania; one nephew, Frank "Bip" Grindstaff of Pennsylvania; and his sister-in-law, Brenda Waycaster of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
    Funeral services for Robert Wayne Grindstaff will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Terry Dugger and Pastor Delaney Berry officiating. Interment will follow in the Captain Nelson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a very special "Thank You" to the staff of the VA Hospice and doctors, nurses and staff of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center for the excellent care he received. Military Honors will be provided by the Carter County Honor Guard.
