    ELIZABETHTON — June Ward Swift, 88, 4480 Highway 19E, Elizabethton, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, in the Life Care Center.

    A native of Watauga County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Nathan D. Ward Sr. and Sarah Tester Ward. She had lived in Elizabethton for a number of years. Mrs. Swift was a member of the Valley Forge United Methodist Church.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Rod E. Swift, January 24, 1992; by Two Grandsons: Jeff & Mike McKinney; A Brother: Robert Lee Ward; and a Sister: Hazel Vaught; and Sarah Shephard.

    Survivors include a daughter & son-in-law: Jackie & Alvin McKinney, Elizabethton; Two Sons & One Daughter-in-Law: Mack & Joan Swift, Staunton, Virginia, and Keith Swift ,of the home; Three Sisters & One Brother-In-Law: Goldie & Jack Scott, Nola Church and Dixie Norris, all of Elizabethton; Three Brothers and Two Sisters-in-Law: Hill & Jan Ward, Mountain City, Nathan Ward Jr. & Julia Ward, Elizabethton, and Conrad J. Ward, Morristown; Three Grandchildren: Mark Swift, Washington, Pa., Susan Gibbs and her husband, Wayt, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Cherity Bennett & Her Husband, Chad, Johnson City; Two Great Grandchildren: Liam Gibbs and Ethan Bennett.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul Humphrey and Rev. Lon Tobin officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Judy Little and Trilla Little will provide the music.

    Active Pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12 Noon Sunday, will be: Dearl Swift, Earl Swift, Doran Swift, James Norris, Joe Nave and Ben Williams. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Staff of Life Care. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. To those who prefer, Memorials may be made in Memory of Mrs. Swift to the Donors favorite Charity. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12 noon Sunday to go to the cemetery.

    Charlie Hill Ward, 94, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 30, 2017. He was a native of Watauga County, N.C., and was born on April 2, 1923 to the late Nathan Duke Ward and Sarah Tester Ward. Charlie had lived in Mountain City since he was five years old.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, June Swift, Hazel Vaught, Dixie Norris, Sarah Long Shepherd and Nola Blanche Church, and two brothers, Robert Lee Ward and Nathan Duke Ward Jr.
    Mr. Ward was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the 20th Armored Division in the European Theater in WWII, and a retired employee of Mountain Electric Cooperative where he worked for 49 years. He was a charter and life member of the VFW, charter and life member of the Johnson County Emergency and Rescue Squad (EMS), and life member of the Tennessee Congress of Parents and Teachers.
    He was a graduate of Caldwell College, attended ETSU, was a Master Mason of Taylorsville Lodge 243 F&AM, a Shriner, and a member of the Jericho Legion of Honor. He was also a Scout Master and Little League baseball and football coach.
    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janice Walker Ward; daughters, Brenda Ward of League City, Texas, and Debbie Ward of Eagan, Minn. He is also survived by a sister, Goldia Scott, and a brother, Conrad Ward; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
    Charlie was proud of the fact that he never missed a reunion of his Army unit, 20th Armored Division Association, and served as Chaplain from 1997 to 2011. In addition, he served as President in 2008, the year he and Janice hosted the reunion in Knoxville, Tenn., area.
    The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 5, in the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with the Celebration of Life Service at 3 p.m. with Pastor Scott Wilks officiating. Special music will be provided by McKayla Walker and Taylor Walker. Masonic rites will follow at the funeral home and will be conducted by the Taylorville Masonic Lodge #243 F&AM. Graveside services and interment with Military Honors accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be retired and current employees of Mountain Electric Cooperative, former members and current employees of the Johnson County Rescue Squad, Wayne Taylor, Earl Lewis and Jim Bishop. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Hospice employees, Mandy Ward and Gail Miller; Amedisys Home Health employees, Amy Grindstaff, Sherry Arnold, Hallie Mahala and Christian Tipton; his special caregivers of Silver Angels, Helen Price and Ashley Johnson; and the Johnson County Rescue Squad.

    Dixie D. Ward Norris, 87, Elizabethton passed thru the Heavenly Portals on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton.
    She was the daughter of the Late N.D. and Sarah Tester Ward. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Bert E. Norris, Brothers; Robert Lee Ward, Nathan Ward Jr., Sisters; June Swift, Hazel Vaught, Sarah Long Shepherd, Brother-In– Laws; Rod Swift, Toy Vaught, Clifford Church, Giles Long, Alton Shepherd, Jack Scott. Sister-In– Laws; Julia Ann Fenner Ward and Charlotte Fortner Ward. And her only Son– In– Law, Don Brewer.
    Mrs. Norris lived most of her life in Elizabethton. She was a Member of Valley Forge United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for a number of years. She loved to sing God's Praises.
    Survivors include one Daughter, Joyce Norris Brewer of Sewanee, South Carolina, four Sons and daughter-in– Laws; Larry W. and Liwen Norris, Robert H. and Katherine Norris, James E. and Glenda Norris, and Michael S. and Laura Norris. Grandchildren include; Jonathon Brewer and wife, Kim, Susan Norris, Steven Norris and wife, Michelle, Jennifer Carr and husband, Steven, Bobby Norris, Nathan Taylor, Natalie Jacoby and husband, Nick, Katrina Graybeal and husband, Stacy, Natasha Trivette and husband, Scott, James Norris and wife, Jaime, Lindsay and husband Gabe Williams. Great– Grand children include; Brandon Norris, Julia Norris, Emily Carr, Justin Carr, Jesse Carr, Nicholas Jacoby, Dawson Jacoby, Kaylissa Jacoby, Kalib Graybeal, Khloe Graybeal, Logan Trivette, Austin Trivette, Lexi Trivette. One Great-Great-Grand Daughter, Jasmine Carr. Brothers; Charlie Hill Ward and wife, Jan, Conrad Ward. Sisters; Nola Church and Goldia Scott. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joel Cook and the Rev. Danny Bright officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

    Nathan D. Ward Jr. passed from his life on earth into the loving hands of God on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Life Care Center in Elizabethton, TN, two days before he would have celebrated his 79th birthday.
    Nathan was the son of the late N.D. Sr. and Sarah Tester Ward. He was born in Johnson County, TN, and graduated from Johnson County High School in 1952. Nathan married the love of his life, the late Julia Fenner Ward on August 29, 1954, and they celebrated their 55th anniversary two days before her death on August 31, 2009.
    Nathan and Julia moved to Elizabethton, TN, in 1956 to work and raise their family. He was immersed into Christ at West Side Christian Church 1958. Nathan was a devoted member and served as past custodian, boy's Sunday School teacher and deacon. He attended faithfully until his health kept him from going. He loved his church family and will always be remembered for his quiet ways and loving heart.
    He worked various jobs in Elizabethton before starting at Beaunit (North American Rayon) in 1965 as a boiler operator, retiring in 1998. He then worked at Jiffy Cleaners until his full retirement in 2000.
    Along with his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Lee Ward; and sisters, June Swift, Hazel Vaught and Sarah Shepard; His father and mother-in-law, Arthur Sr. and Edith Fenner; brothers-in-law, Rod Swift, Bert Norris, Toy Vaught, Giles Long, Clifford Church, Jack Scott, Frank Fenner, James Fenner, Stanley Woody; and sisters-in-law, Louise Williams Charsha and Charlotte Ward.
    Left behind to miss him, but rejoice that they will be reunited one day are his children, Kathy McAmis and fiancé, Danny Honaker, Johnson City, TN, and Beverly and Bryce McKinney, Elizabethton, TN, with whom he lived; Grandchildren, Lance and Heather McCloud, Bristol, TN, Scott and Claudia McCloud, Aurora, IL, SSgt. James Brandon and Amber McKinney, Abilene, TX, and his "sweet pea" Brenna McKinney Smith and husband, Joseph Smith, Elizabethton, TN; Great-grandchildren, his "little angel," Hannah McCloud, Aurora, IL, Jake and Alexandria McKinney, Abilene, TX, Devon and Elijah Church, Hampton, TN; Brothers and sister-in-law, Hill and Jan Ward, Mountain City, TN, and Conrad Ward, Myrtle Beach, SC; Sisters Dixie Norris, Nola Church and Goldia Scott, Elizabethton; His Fenner family, Mary Woody, Jane and Sonny McCormick and Art and Pam Fenner; Many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews also survive.
    Anyone who knew Nathan or Junior as he was known to family and close friends, knew that his love for his family was only surpassed by his love for God.
    A celebration of life service for Nathan D. Ward Jr. will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with Dr. Greg Key and Todd Burleson officiating. Music will be provided by his niece, Suzanne Elliott, and Scott Reynolds.
    The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
    Burial and entombment will be at Happy Valley Memorial Cemetery in the Sermon on the Mount Section following the service. Active pallbearers will be Luther McKeehan, Bob Elliott, Alan Grindstaff, Jim Barnes and nephews Robert Norris, James Norris, Michael Norris, and Gary Elliott.     Goldia Marie Ward Scott, 78, of Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord, Monday, September 17, 2018, at Signature Health Center.
    A native of Mountain City, she was a daughter of the late Nathan D. Ward Sr. and Sarah Tester Ward.
    Goldia was a graduate of Johnson County High School and East Tennessee State College. She had lived in Elizabethton most of her life. She was a retired employee of Sycamore Shoals Hospital as a Medical Lab Technologist.
    Goldia was an active member of East Side Baptist Church until her illness. She had taught many children through the years about the Bible.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jack K. Scott; a son, Bryan Scott; and her brothers and sisters, Robert Ward, Nola Church, Dixie Norris, June Swift, Hill Ward, Nathan Ward Jr., Hazel Vaught and Sarah Long.
    Survivors include her daughters, Holly Scott and Cindy Cable and husband Paul David; one granddaughter, Savanna Cable; one great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Marie Cable; one brother, Conrad J. Ward; and several nieces and nephews.
    A service to celebrate the life of Goldia Scott will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, September 21, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Dr. Dwight Hobbs officiating. Music will be provided by John Brookshire and Pastor Gale Hartley. Eulogy will be given by Mabel Rogers. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 22, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday, will be John Brookshire, Allen Frost, Tony Hardin, Hunter Nelson, Sam Rogers, Mike Gass, Travis Gass, Jerry Boling and Richard "Jarfly" Dugger. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Elliott, Dwight Goad, Claude Duncan, Bill Miller, Steve Cornett, East Side Baptist Church Family and the many children whom she taught about the Bible.     ELIZABETHTON - Jacquelyn “Jackie” McKinney, 79, went to her Heavenly Home on Friday, December 9, 2022.

    Jackie was born on May 1, 1943 in Johnson County, TN to Rod and June Ward Swift. She was a member of Valley Forge United Methodist Church. Jackie was in the food service at Elizabethton School System. Jackie was a loving wife and loved her family.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Jeff McKinney and Mike McKinney, brother, Mack Swift.

    Jackie is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Alvin E. McKinney; brother, Keith Swift; several nieces and nephews.

    A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Happy Valley Cemetery with Dr. Steve Castle officiating.

    JOHNSON CITY - Kathy Ann Ward McCloud McAmis, Johnson City, Tn., born June 25, 1955 passed away at her home on Saturday, September 9, 2017 after a brief illness.

    Kathy was a daughter of the late Nathan D. Ward, Jr. & Julia Fenner Ward. She was born in Carter County, where she spent the rest of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal Grandparents, N.D. & Sarah Tester Ward, her maternal grandparents: Arthur & Edith Parsons Fenner, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

    Kathy was employed at Wal-Mart in Unicoi as department manager in health and beauty. She was a member of West Side Christian Church but had been attending North Ridge Community Church in Erwin. Kathy attended Elizabethton City Schools and graduated in 1973 from Elizabethton High School.

    Those left to feel the loss, but rejoice in God's promise of being reunited again, are her sons: Lance McCloud, Johnson City, Scott & Claudia McCloud, Aurora, Illinois. Her granddaughter and light of her life, Hannah McCloud, Aurora, Illinois, her fiancé Danny Honaker, Johnson City, sister & brother-in-law: Beverly & Bryce McKinney and niece and husband, Brenna & Ashe Worthington, all of Elizabethton. Several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends also survive, along with her two beloved dogs, Jake & Allie.

    A gathering for family and friends will be on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Chapel 212 N. Main Street, Elizabethton from 5 to 7 p.m. Private disposition will be held at a later date. The family wished to thank Franklin Woods Hospital staff, 2nd floor, Dr. Hodges, Dr. Kramer and all those who attended to her needs. Honorary Pallbearers are Co- workers from Wal-Mart, Unicoi, friends and neighbors.
