ROBERT BERRY GARLAND...
... 88, Shady Valley Rte. 1, died at his home Jan. 1, following an illness of one year.
He was a native of Johnson County and a retired farmer.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Emma Grace Garland; five sons, Hugh and Ambrose of Baltimore, Md., Doag of Flint, Mich., Fleet and Herman of Shady Valley; three daughters, Mrs. Vena Richards and Mrs. Georgia Myers of Elizabethton Rte. 5, Mrs. Ruth Campbell of Shady Valley; one brother, Matthew of Mountain City; one sister, Mrs. Emma Neal of Shady Valley; 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Shady Valley Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Clarence Lewis and Rev. Roger Blevins officiating.
Burial was in Gentry cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dennis Plummer, Avery Miller, Earl Howard, Dale Campbell, Darrell Brinkley, Ray Shore, Arthur Walton.

Ambrose married Bertha Edna Blevins on 8 Dec 1934 in Bristol, , , Virginia. Bertha (daughter of Charlie Blevins and Martha Jane Comer) was born on 4 Aug 1915 in Grayson County, , , Virginia; died on 4 Dec 1998 in Washington County, , , Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Ruth Opal Garland Campbell, 92, formerly of Shady Valley, Tenn., passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Erwin Health Care Center, Erwin, Tenn. She was born in Shady Valley, Tenn., on February 19, 1925 to the late Robert Garland and Emma Grace Rambo Garland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Campbell. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Campbell was a homemaker and she really enjoyed working on her farm.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews and her sister-in-law, Ardna Campbell.
The family would like to especially thank Erwin Health Care Center in Unicoi, Tenn., for the last eight and one-half years of care they gave to "Aunt Ruth." The family really thanks and appreciates the center for all they did for her. Also, a special thanks to her public guardian, Wanda Martin, and her assistant Karrie, for seeing and caring for Ruth.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at Shady Valley Memorial Gardens with Rev. Richard Stout officiating. Music will be provided by Faye Campbell.

June Sluder, age 84, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Mountain City Care Center. June was born on June 1, 1937 to the late Ambrose and Bertha Garland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Leslie Sluder; grandson, Shawn; and brothers, Bobby Garland and Jimmy Garland.

AJune was a hard worker who never complained. She had a heart of gold and took wonderful care of her family. June raised huge gardens and enjoyed canning the fruits of her labor. She loved quilting and made many hand sewn quilts over the years. She was a member of Shady Valley Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughters, Dianne Donahue, Cindy Bublinec, and Theresa Taylor; sons, Rick Sluder and David Sluder; sister, Beverly McKinney; brothers, Vernis Garland and Lonnie Garland; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; dear friend, Lee Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Mountain City Funeral Home with Norman Taylor to officaite. The funeral service will follow at 3:00. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral from Shady Valley Memorial Gardens.

Bobby Garland, 40, of Rt. 1, Shady Valley, Tenn., died at his home here Sunday after a long illness.
He was a native of Johnson County and was employed at the Tri-State Lime Company, Blountville, Tenn. He attended the International Bible Church in Mountain City, Tenn.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Eva Sue Shelton Garland; three daughters, Kathy E. Garland, Melissa S. Garland and Verna R. Garland, all of the home; two sons, Timothy L. Garland and Michael J. Garland, both of the home; his mother, Mrs. Bertha Garland, Shady Valley; three brothers, Vernice Garland, Elizabethton, Tenn., Lonnie Garland and Gene Garland, both of Shady Valley; two sisters, Mrs. Beverly McKinney, Burnsville, N.C., and Mrs. June Sluder, Shady Valley, and several nieces and nephews.

Dewey Harold Garland, better known to his friends as “Rubberneck,” 76, of Butler, Tenn., passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. He was born in Shady Valley, Tenn., to the late Fleet and Lucy (Wilson) Garland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Colt Davis.
Harold was a truck driver and had been his whole life. He enjoyed what he did and enjoyed spending time with his family. Harold was always on the go. He had a laid back personality and a good sense of humor. He loved to make people laugh and laughing with them. He never met a stranger. He also enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR races, and watching westerns in his spare time.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 52 years, Idoma (Poole) Garland, of the home; daughters, Tammy Bobbitt, Renee and Wayne Hamm and Lea Ann and Richie Shaffer; brothers, James L. Garland (Linda) and Charles Garland (Jean); a sister, Brenda Blondell; grandchildren, Amanda Greene (Todd), Kayla Jimenez (Elio), Sarah Davis (Kenny), Dylan Shaffer, Mercedes Blakeley and Bret Shaffer; great-grandchildren, Sullivan, Finley, Sebastian, Lucas, Rayden and Bethany; as well as many other extended family that will miss him.
The family will hold a visitation at their home from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday, July 3, for those that would like to attend. The family would like to thank Officer Mullins and the Carter County Rescue Team for their work as well as a special thank you to Bobby Trivette for all his help.
