James McCloud

Notes:

James McCloud was born around 1847 and grew up near Butler in Johnson County, TN. He was the son of Isham McCloud (aka Isom or Isam) and Mary "Polly" Fair McCloud. He was the grandson of John and Nancy McCloud (enumerated in the 1810-1830 Wilkes Co, NC Census) .

James enlisted in the Union Army on September 22, 1863 and served as a Private in Company I of the 13th TN Calvary under Captain Samuel E. Northington. He was honorably discharged on September 5, 1865. (James had four brothers who also served in the Union Army: Alfred McCloud (Pvt. Comp G, 13th TN Calvary; Tennessee C. McCloud (Company I, 13th TN Calvary); Joseph R. McCloud (Pvt. G, 13th TN Calvary); and William B. McCloud (Comp. H, 4th TN Infantry).

After the War, James returned to Johnson County and married Mary Walker. They had eight children prior to his death on February 18, 1890. James was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic.

Note: James' parents, Isham and Mary, married in Wilkes Co, NC on April 17, 1833 and moved to Johnson Co, TN shortly thereafter. They are shown in Johnson Co, TN Census records from 1936-1970. In 1880, they were living in Watauga Co, NC (now Avery Co, NC). Their date of death and burial location have not been confirmed.

William McCloud, 70, died at his home at Butler on Wednesday night at 11 o'clock.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at Cobb's creek Baptist church with Rev. James Gregg officiating. Interment will be in the Pierce Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be selected from friends at the funeral.

McCLOUD, N. H.

Missing Man's Body Found Near Butler Home

The body of 67-year-old N.H. McCloud was found near Butler Sunday, Dec. 23, 20 days after the retired Navy veteran was reported missing.

The body was found 1-1/2 miles from the dock in the Campbell Hollow section about noon by the victim's brother, Harry McCloud. Officers surmised McCloud had apparently tried to take shelter since his body was partially covered by a log. The man's wallet and hat were found beside the body.

An intensive search of the lake area was begun shortly after McCloud was reported missing, but was called off when officers received reports that the man might have gone to Georgia where his wife was staying.

McCloud lived at Butler with a daughter, Mrs. Jean Trivette. She told officers her father had left $45 in a Bible before leaving and said he seemed "his usual self."

McCloud was a member of the Pierce Baptist Church and the VFW Post 2166 in Elizabethton.

Survivors include the widow, four daughters, Mrs. Fred Trivette of the home; Mrs. Donald Martin and Joyce McCloud, Chesterfield, Ind., Mrs. Herbert Pennington, Columbus, Ga.; and Lloyd McCloud of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Wagner, Elizabethton, Mrs. Minnie Sweeney, Kingsport; three brothers, Walter McCloud, Elizabethton, Harry McCloud of Butler and Robert McCloud of Johnson City and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from Pierce Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, with Rev. Victor Broyles and the Rev. H.M. Slagle officiating.

Burial was in Butler Memorial Cemetery with full military honors at graveside with the VFW Post 2166 in charge.

Pallbearers were Worley, Ray and Woodrow Pierce, Cecil Oliver, James Williams, Walter P. Broyles, Clyde Dunn, and Howard Campbell.

Ina Maude Collins, 46, died yesterday at 7:15 a.m. after a ten months illness at her home route 3.
She was a member of the Cobbs Creek Baptist Church.

Harry was born on October 30, 1905 in the Cobbs Creek community of Johnson County, Tennessee. He was the son of William Isaac and Mary Ellen Pierce McCloud.

On August 16, 1930, Harry married Hazel Marie Stout. They had six children: Peggy, Bud, Derl, Jerry, Bill and Jackie. Their first home was located in the Piercetown community of Carter County (near Hazel's family). However, they were forced to move because of the Watauga Dam and Lake project. And, in 1940, they purchased property about a mile away which was located in Johnson County. (The fence was on the Johnson County/Carter County line). Harry re-built the house, and the family moved into it a few months later. All the family were members of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church which was near their home.

Harry worked hard to provide for his family during the Great Depression and World War II. He was a farmer, and he also worked for 27 years at North American Rayon/Bemberg in Elizabethton.

Harry married Hazel Marie Stout on 16 Aug 1930 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Robert E. McCloud, 99, Johnson City, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013, in the Four Oaks Health Care Center following an extended illness.

A native of Johnson County, he was a son of the late William and Mary Ellen Pierce McCloud. He had lived in Johnson City for number of years. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was retired from North American Rayon Corporation after several years. He was a member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. McCloud loved to play Bingo, and Word Search Puzzles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Lillian Pierce McCloud, May 7, 1999; by four brothers: Newton, Walter, Harry & Luther McCloud; and his sisters: Minnie & Effie.

Survivors include a daughter: Pat Couch and husband, John, Johnson City; A Step-Daughter: Norma Jean Smith and husband, Lee, Gray; Two Grandsons: Greg Couch and wife, Peggy, Los Angeles, and Jonathan Couch and wife, Angie, Johnson City; A Great Granddaughter: Daphne, Los Angeles.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dan Wood officiating.

Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion.

Lloyd Randall 'Tudy' McCloud, age 68, of Butler, Tennessee, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was born on August 16, 1949, to the late Newton and Chelsea McCloud. In addition to his parents, Tudy was preceded in death by his sister, Reatha Lee.

He was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of Piercetown Baptist Church.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 46 years, Janice McCloud; sons: Travis McCloud and wife Michele and Starling McCloud; sisters: Jean Trivette, Dorothy Martin and Joyce Doherty; brother, Bud McCloud; grandchildren: Tanya McCloud, Dalton McCloud, Skyler McCloud; step grandchild, Brandy Campbell; great grandchild, Serinity Harper; mother-in-law, Mae Pierce Blevins; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Eddie Perry; several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Harvey White officiating. Military honors will follow and will be conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Rainbolt, Darin Isaacs, David Griffey, Earl Burchett, Johnny Campbell, Jack Pierce, Scott Forrester, Scott Robinson and many, many more. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Miles Edgar McCloud, 91, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. He was born September 13, 1930 to the late Walter P. and Lillie Oliveen McQueen McCloud. He had lived a number of years in Elizabethton.
Miles served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired Millwright.
Miles loved to hunt and fish. He was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church but attended Lynn Valley Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ellen Vines and Hannah Lou Blevins; a brother, Tom McCloud; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Nave.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Joan Fletcher McCloud; a brother, Lanton McCloud, Sumter, S.C.; three sisters, Rachel Phipps, Elizabethton, Linda Jo Hall, Pontiac, Mich., and Anglee White, Gray, Tenn.; a special nephew, Keith Grindstaff; and several other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 18, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery (New Annex – 215 Heroes Drive, Mountain Home) with the Rev. Dennis Wilson officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Veterans Honor Guard DAV 39, Bluff City. Nathaniel “Tom” McCloud, 88, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2020 in the James H. Quillen Va. Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Walter P. & Lillie Oliveen McQueen McCloud. Tom served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he was an Ex Pow for 33 months. He was a retired Manager of the Pizza Inn, Johnson City. Tom was affectionately known as the “fruit cake man”. He has dedicated the latter part of his life to baking and selling fruit cakes as a way to raise money for the building project of Unaka Baptist Church where he was a member and Ordained Deacon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years: Billie Jean Shankles McCloud, who passed away January 28, 2005, by two sisters: Mary Ellen Vines and Hanna Lou Blevins and several sisters & brothers-in-laws; and his special friend Joe Williams.
Survivors include his Sons & Daughters-in-Law; Mike & Sabrina McCloud and Donald & Bonnie McCloud all of Elizabethton. It is with deep sad-ness that we an-nounce the pass-ing of our be-loved hus-band, father, and grand-father, Glen (Bud) McCloud, of But-ler, TN, who, at home and sur-rounded by his lov-ing fam-ily, passed on April 4, 2015.
Glen, 81, was born on Au-gust 13, 1933, and lived the ma-jor-ity of his life in But-ler.
Glen was mar-ried to Jewel Dean (Ward) McCloud, on Au-gust 4, 1955. They were mar-ried 59 years. Glen, along-side his wife, raised four fine chil-dren. He is sur-vived by his wife and his chil-dren; son, Tim (wife, Gaye); daugh-ter, Judy (McCloud) Lam-bert (hus-band, Ed-die); son, Randy (wife, Bar-bara); and son, Steve (wife, Laura). He is also sur-vived by his sis-ter, Jackie Warden; two broth-ers, Jerry (and wife, Mar-ga-ret) and Derl (and wife, Gla-dys); as well as his pre-cious grand-chil-dren and great grand-chil-dren; and many, nieces, neph-ews and other spe-cial fam-ily mem-bers and friends.
Glen was pre-ceded in death by his mother, Ha-zel Marie (Stout) McCloud; and his father, Harry S. McCloud; his sis-ter, Peggy McCloud Jump; and his brother, Bill McCloud.
Glen attended Hampton High School. He was a decorated veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 19501959.
For many years, Glen was the owner and operator of McCloud's Automotive in Elizabethton. He was also employed as Master Automotive Technician by Dennis Powell Chrysler Plymouth and Carl Gregory in Johnson City. Mr. McCloud retired from Carl Gregory in 2002, and then traveled across the country and internationally with two of his sons working as a millwright from 20022008.
In his spare time Glen enjoyed reading, watching college football and playing board games with family and friends.
Glen, a man of integrity, will always be remembered through his legacy of honesty, generosity, dedication and fair dealing. His witty sense of humor brightened the lives of his family and everyone who knew him.
Family was of utmost importance to Glen. He genuinely and deeply loved his family. Throughout his lifetime he made opportunities to share special time, and make cherished, lifetime memories with his family.
Glen demonstrated commitment and service as a leader in his church. He served our Lord and Savior with devotion through his unwavering dedication to Butler Baptist Church as a church leader and as Chairman of the Deacons for many years.
The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Woods and Rev. Derl McCloud officiating.
Interment will follow at Butler Memorial Cemetery, Butler, TN. Music will be provided by Rev. Daniel Woods and Teresa Chaplain. Military Honors will be provided by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be Sons & Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Derl McCloud, Jerry McCloud, Larry Smith, Chuck Whitney and Vaughn Potter.

Dallas G. “Jerry” McCloud, age 83, passed away on June 20, 2022 at Watauga Medical Center. He was born on August 27, 1938 to the late Harry S. McCloud and Hazel M. Stout McCloud. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Jump and brothers, Bill McCloud, Derl McCloud, and Bud McCloud.

Jerry was raised in Butler, TN and sang with the McCloud Family for several years. Also, him and his wife Margaret delivered mobile meals in Creston, NC for many years. Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force.

Those left to cherish his memories include the love of his life, best friend, and loving wife of 56 years, Margaret Osborne McCloud; sister, Jackie Warden; sisters-in-law, Jewel Dean McCloud, Jenny Osborne; brother-in-law, Raymond Osborne and wife Mary and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Preacher Ricky Campbell officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral at Sunset Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.

Kate Bradley Bowers, 86, of Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at Signature Health Care.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William and Litha Mae McCloud Bradley.
Kate was a 1952 graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a retired employee of Empire Furniture, Johnson City. Kate was a member and she loved her church, Southside Christian Church. She loved to read and send cards.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde H. Bowers; two brothers, William and Robert Bradley; and three sisters, Dorothy Pierce, Betty Dolan and Mary Dykes.
Survivors include her sister, Shirley M. Bradley; her brother, John "Bud" Bradley and wife Mae; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, C.J. Campbell, and a special niece, Amy Campbell.
Graveside services for Kate Bradley Bowers will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 29, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Michael Koruschak, minister, officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be nephews.
