DR. JADY PROFFITT...
... 91, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jane West, Butler, early Sunday morning, June 26.
A native of Johnson County, he had practiced medicine in the area for many years. He was a member of the Rock Springs Baptist Church and a member of the Roan Creek Lodge F. & A.M. of Butler. He was recently awarded a 50-year certificate by the lodge.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Mollie Proffitt; three sons, J. G. and John H. of Cumberland, Va., and Sam of Williamsburg, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Jane West and Mrs. Pearlie Matheson, both of Butler; two brothers, John of Elizabethton and Cannon of Oregon, and six grandchildren.

John H. Proffitt, 89, of Powhatan, widower of Lorraine H. Proffitt and Elizabeth H. Proffitt, passed away May 10, 2016. He is survived by three children, Larry W. Proffitt (Brenda) of Powhatan, Shirley P. Elliott (Michael) of Chesterfield, Evelyn Barden (Rick) of Powhatan; four grandchildren, Jonathan Henry, Jennifer Osborne (Mike), Samantha Proffitt, Phillip Barden; three great grandchildren, Landon, Brycen and Hailey. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8pm in the Bennett & Barden Funeral Home, 3215 Anderson Hwy.(Rt.60), Powhatan and where services will be held 2pm Friday. Interment Powhatan Community Cemetery.

Mrs. Evadna Proffitt Slemp, 68, 1302-B Arney Street, Elizabethton, died Monday, August 16, 1999, at the residence of her daughter following an extended illness.

Mrs. Slemp was a native of Johnson County and had lived most of her life in Carter County. She was a daughter of the late Joseph Proffitt Sr. and Pearl Williams Proffitt and was also preceded in death by her husband, William L. Slemp, in 1978, a sister and three brothers.

Mrs. Slemp was a homemaker and a member of Slagle United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Wilma "Peach" and Homer Shell, Elizabethton; a stepdaughter and her husband, Virginia and Bob Agnew, Hillsville, Va.; a stepson and his wife, J.D. and Thelma Slemp, Joliet, Ill.; a brother, Joe Proffitt Jr., Elizabethton; 11 grandchildren, Kevin Kiser, Lisa Kiser Evans, Kristi Kiser Perkins, Kraig Kiser, Daniel and Jason Shell, Bill, Rob and Tim Agnew, Christine Lucky and Mike Slemp; four sisters-in-law, Mable Phillips, Baltimore, Md., Rhoda Kate Rains and Retha Slemp, both of Richmond, Ind., and Beulah Carr, Elizabethton; and a brother-in-law, Dana Slemp, Covington, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Evadna married William L. "Fate" Slimp on 23 Sep 1955 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. William (son of David B. "Butler" Slimp and Effie J. Williams) was born on 4 Jul 1911 in Johnson County, , , Tennessee; died on 16 Mar 1978 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Mountain Home National Cemetery, , Washington County, Tennessee. Mrs. Linda Proffitt Hopkins, age 67, of West Jefferson died Wednesday morning, October 31, 2018 at her residence. Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 3:00pm at Bald Mountain Baptist Church with Rev. John Elledge officiating. Burial followed in the Bald Mountain Cemetery. The family received friends from 2:00-3:00pm on Sunday, November 4, 2018; one hour prior to the funeral service. Mrs. Hopkins was born in Butler, TN on August 24, 1946 to the late Bruce and Mavis Fletcher Proffitt. She worked as a sales clerk at Wal-Mart in West Jefferson. She had a passion for collecting Angels. She was a loving wife, mother and sister; she will be missed by all. She was also preceded in death by a son, Everette Wayne Lunceford; a brother, Jackie Proffitt and a sister, Dorothy Stanley

Mrs. Hopkins is survived by her husband, Allen Hopkins; three sons. Tim Hopkins and wife, Justine, of West Jefferson, Tony Hopkins, of West Jefferson and Anthony Hopkins, of West Jefferson; a daughter, Patricia Seagle and husband, Lance, of Fleetwood; a brother, Jerry Keith Proffitt, of Elizabethton, TN; four sisters, Norma Jean Eldreth, of Mountain City, TN, Beverly Jean Lowe, of Mountain City, TN, Judy Brockwell and husband, Donald, of Elizabethton and Nancy Matherly, of Elizabethton; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Lunceford; a special friend, Homer Shell; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.
