    Betty Ann Carriger Edwards, 77, of Johnson City, died Friday, August 24, 2012, at the Four Oaks Health Care Center in Jonesborough.

    She was a native of Carter County, daughter of the late David King Carriger and Ida Grindstaff Carriger. Betty was a retired manager of the Motherhood Maternity Store. She was a member of the Snow Memorial Baptist Church and had taught Sunday School for many years.

    Betty loved gardening, sewing and anything that included her grandchildren and their activities.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Edwards Jr.; a daughter, Debbie Hammett; three brothers, Norman, Cliff and Bill Carriger; three sisters, Georgie Kinley, Ina Murr and Evelyn Waycaster.

    Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Karen E. and Jon Harvey, of Johnson City; five grandchildren and a granddaughter-in-law, Emily Harvey, of Denver, Colorado, Allie Harvey, Kelly Harvey and Tatum Harvey, all of Johnson City, Matthew and Yoon Loutzenhiser, of South Korea; a sister, Galilee Osborne, of Fairfax, Virginia.

    A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, August 26, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. in the North Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. Mike Pelham. Special music will be provided by The Harveys.

    The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m.

    A committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    Notes:

    Evelyn R. Waycaster, 71, 345 Lynn Road, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010, at her residence with her loving family by her side.

    She was a lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a daughter of the late David and Ida Grindstaff Carriger. Mrs. Waycaster was retired from Johnson City Medical Center and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Johnson City, where she had been the church pianist since 1961. She loved to sing and listen to gospel music and enjoyed her family trips to Myrtle Beach each year.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, Norman and Billy Joe Carriger; a sister, Ina Murr; and a son-in-law, Roger Davis.

    Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Howard S. Waycaster; three daughters, Teresa Robbin Clark, Sandra Gail Davis and Donna Kathryn Corbett and her husband, Robert, all of Johnson City; three sisters, Gallie Bailey, Washington, DC, Georgia Kinley and Betty Edwards, both of Jonesborough; two grandsons, Chad Johnson, Dallas, TX, and Steven Bates, Johnson City; two granddaughters, Shelly Davis and Ashley Johnson, Johnson City; six great-grandchildren, Julie, Jackson, Peyton and Levi Carver, Katie and Lindsey Johnson; several nieces and nephews.

    The funeral service for Mrs. Waycaster will be conducted at 7:00 PM Saturday, February 20, 2010, from the Calvary Baptist Church, Hart Avenue, Johnson City, with Pastor James Chatman officiating. Music will be provided by her church family.

    The family will receive friends at the church from 5:00 PM until service time.

    Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 21, 2010, from the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Robert Corbett, Steven Bates, Mike Davison, Roger Waycaster, Kenny Cole and Larry Glaspie. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Flowers, Lester Saylor and all of the men at Calvary Baptist Church. Everyone attending is asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 PM.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Richard and Sylvia Rose Carriger.

    He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon Taylor Carriger; his son, Steve (Jessica) Carriger; his daughter, Stephanie (Ryan) Toney; two most precious grandchildren, Henry and Landry Kate Toney; brothers, Phil (Karyn), Larry and David Carriger; 2 nephews and 3 nieces; several cousins and many good friends.

    Steve was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church and of the Gate City Masonic Lodge. He loved woodworking and fishing. He taught in Scott County Schools for more than 30 years.
