Juanita Johnson Hodges of Hendersonville NC, Newland NC, and Canton OH, passed away at 11:00 pm Monday, December 24, 2012 at the Elizabeth House in Hendersonville.
She worked as a Real Estate Broker in Canton Ohio from the mid-1960s through the mid-1980s, raised a family, and then retired to North Carolina with her husband Frank. Juanita, born February 12, 1929, was the tenth of twelve children born to William A. Johnson and Auby Cornett Johnson of Newland, NC. Juanita was preceded in death by her son Daryl, her husband of 61 years Frank William Hodges, originally of Boone, NC, and nine of her brothers and sisters. Her surviving sisters are Willa Mae Sluder and Margaret Ledford of Newland.
Juanita is also survived by her children; Marlene and her husband David Kirk and their son D.J. of St. Louis, Marlene's son Daniel Cusma of Houston and his wife Elizabeth, Lawrence and his wife Sherry of Hendersonville and their son Jason and daughter Beth Owenby and Beth's husband Mark of Asheville, NC; Daryl's daughters Reina Perkins and husband Robert and Kelly Williams of Houston; and Jeffrey and his wife Cecelia of Houston. Survivors also include four great grandchildren.
Friends will be received before the service from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Newland, NC. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at the Fork Mountain Cemetery.

Margaret Johnson Ledford, age 82, of Nebo, slipped away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at The McDowell Hospital.

Born in Avery County, North Carolina on February 26, 1934, she was the daughter of the late William and Auby Cornett Johnson.

A loving mother, grandmother and sister, Margaret took pride in helping others, and was known for loving everyone she encountered. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lon James Ledford, Sr., who was a United States Army/United States Air Force veteran and served during the Korean War; two daughters, Brenda Kay Ledford and Pamela Gail Christ; and one granddaughter, Kennette Dotson.

Margaret is survived by two daughters, Rowena Ledford Smith (Richard) of Morganton and Debbie Ledford (Mason Pierce) of Shelby; one son, Lon James Ledford, Jr. (Tara) of Pinehurst; one sister, Willa Mae Sluder of Newland; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with Revs. Rick Wood and Stephen Reeves officiating. Interment will follow at Cane Creek Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Bakersville.

Mr. William Benjamin "Bill" Isaacs, 82, of Antioch Road, Mountain City, Tenn., died Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 15, 2004.

He was born Sept. 4, 1922 in Watauga County, N.C., a son of Enoch and Martha Cornett Isaacs.

Mr. Isaacs was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a tradesman.

Survivors include one daughter, Theresa Marie Isaacs of Zionville; three sons, Terry lee Isaacs of Meat Camp, Dennis Martin Isaacs and wife, Paulette, of Elk Park and Robert Dale Isaacs and wife, Cindy, of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Shirley Sanders of Lenoir and Blanch Presnell of Zionville; and two brothers, Joe Isaacs of Lenoir and Johnny Isaacs of Sugar Grove.

Fourteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Julius Stephen and David Benjamin Isaacs and an infant; three daughters, Martha Sue and Mary Carolyn Isaacs and an infant; one brother, Rom Isaacs; and his parents, Enoch and Martha Cornett Isaacs.

Services were conducted Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dan Church officiating.

Burial was in the Henson's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Lois Edna Isaacs Henson

Mrs. Lois Edna Henson, 82, of 818 Medical Park Drive, Mountain City, Tenn., died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at Mountain City Care Center.

She was born in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Enoch and Martha Ann Cornett Isaacs.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She loved traveling.

Survivors include three sons, Baxter Henson and wife, Debbie, of Charleston, S.C., Wayne Henson and wife, Jane, of Jackson, Tenn., and Gary Henson and wife, Teresa, of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Blanche Presnell of Zionville and Shirley Sanders of Lenoir; two brothers, John Isaacs of Sugar Grove and Joe Isaacs of Lenoir; and a special friend, Janice Hawkins. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Henson; two brothers, Rom and Ben Isaacs; and one sister, Wanda Smith.

Burial followed in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

Mrs. Linda Blanche Isaacs Presnell, age 77, of Browns Chapel Road, Boone and formerly of Zionville, died Friday evening, August 12, 2011 at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation.

Born April 29, 1934 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late Enoch and Martha Isaacs Cornett. Mrs. Presnell was a homemaker and a member of Henson's Chapel United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband; Johnny Presnell, four daughters; Lois Evans and husband, Ed, of Boone, Maxie Jones and husband, Jerry, of Vilas, Janet Snyder and husband, Michael, of Gray, Tennessee, and Carla Presnell of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; one son Mark Presnell of Wilkesboro; 10 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren, one sister; Shirley Sanders of Lenoir, and two brothers; John Isaacs of Sugar Grove, and Joe Isaacs and wife, Kay, of Lenoir.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Wanda Smith, Edna Henson, and Ruby Isaacs, and two brothers, Ben and Rom Isaacs.

Funeral services for Mrs. Linda Blanche Isaacs Presnell will be conducted Sunday afternoon, August 14, 2011, at 3 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Dan Church. Burial will follow at Henson's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 until 3 o'clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.

Paralee Lewis, 90, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2018 in Massillon, Ohio.

Born Oct. 5, 1928 in Avery County, NC, to the late Talmadge and Ruby Lewis, she lived in the greater Canton, Ohio, area from 1947 until her death.

Paralee faithfully worshipped her creator as one of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1953. Family was most important to her and their pictures were her most prized possessions. She loved her flowers, gardening, square-dancing and artwork.

She was preceded in death by her faithful Husband of 56 years: Deward Richard Lewis, in 2003; a younger Sister: Frankie Cummings, and younger Brother: Kermit Lewis of North Carolina.

She is survived by a younger Sister: Charlene Ellis; Sister-in-law: Robina Hall; Son:Dale (Patty) Lewis; Daughter: Darlene Renae Copley; Grandchildren: Dorinda (Joseph) Weaver, Darian (Madeline) Lewis, Andrea (Robert) White, Aaron (Sarah) Lewis, Denese Ashbaugh, Devona (Jeremy) VanFossen, and David Copley, 13 Great grandchildren, three great-great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Charles W. Trice, 91, of Newland passed away at his home Thursday morning, May 13, 2021 after a prolonged illness.

He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 69 years, Louise; his daughter, Kathie Massee (David, deceased); and his son, Charles W. Jr., “Bill” (Kathy). He is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who loving called him “Papa”, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vaughn and Thosa (Johnson) Trice; his son, Rodney Evan (Regina), two brothers, Bob and Max; and two sisters, Corine and Maxine.

Charles was a lifelong native of Avery County and was a prominent contractor of many quality homes in the area, particularly at Grandfather Golf and Country Club during its early development. He was proud to have also served as general contractor for construction of beautiful homes for all three of his children.

He was dedicated to his family and his church, Vale Free Will Baptist. He served fifty years as a Master Mason of Linville Lodge No. 489. He enjoyed ‘coon hunting and training his hounds in his earlier years.

Graveside services for Charles Trice were held on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 2 p.m. in the Fork Mountain Cemetery.

She was born November 11, 1931 in Newland, Avery County, NC.

She was a member of the Crossnore Baptist Church. She loved flower arranging, crafting, sewing, homemaking, her church and Sunday School class, reading the Bible, and volunteer work with little children. Marie had volunteered for the Sloop Memorial Hospital for many years and had served as a Teacher's Aide and Substitute Teacher.

Along with her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, J.P. Cuthbertson; two sisters Nellie Vines, Shirley Sines and two brothers Hoyle and Jimmie.

Marie is survived by her two daughters, Martha and husband Jesse Hardy of Pinnacle NC and stepdaughter Lisa Evers and husband John; stepgrandaughters Amanda and Isabella, Priscilla and Emmett Cox of Crumpler NC and stepgrandsons Robert and Jesse and three stepgrand children, Jacob, Raissia and Haylon. two sons, David and Linda Cuthbertson of Newland, Nathan and Alice Cuthbertson of Burgaw NC, and grandchildren Olivia and Ben; three sisters Velma and husband Jim Oxendine , Doris Taylor and husband Glen, Wilda Woodie, and one brother Bud Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services held at the Crossnore First Baptist Church with Rev. Lander Heafner and Dr. Phil Murdock officiating. Interment in the Cuthbertson Family Cemetery in Newland.

He was born on March 20, 1933 in Avery County, North Carolina, a son of Lillard Johnson and Augusta Cole Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his Parents; Sons: David (Bud) Johnson, Danny Johnson; Daughter: Mary Buchanan; Sisters: Marie Cuthbertson, Nellie Vines, and Shirley Sines.

Bud enjoyed Farming and listening to Country and Bluegrass Music.
