STANBERY, TROY - age 85, of 1704 Acorn Court, Johnson City, died Sunday, September 7, 1997, at his residence. He was a native of Butler, Tenn., and had lived in Johnson City since 1940. Mr. Stanbery was a son of the late John R. and Etta Burton Stanbery. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Sylvania Harmon; and four brothers, Ruben Stanbery, Audie Stanbery, Hubert Stanbery and Willard Stanbery. Mr. Stanbery was a WWII Army veteran, having served in Europe with the 137th Ordinance Battalion, 16th Armored Division. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, John Sevier Post #2108. He was a retired barber with Empire Barber Shop. Mr. Stanbery was a member of the Watauga Masonic Lodge #622, Holston Council #101, Thomas E. Matson Chapter #131, Watauga Commandry #25. He was a member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Irene Edwards Stanbery; one daughter, Patricia Jones, Knoxville; one brother, John R. Stanbery, Elizabethton; one sister, Celia Dugger, Butler, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Cindy Lee Jones and Angela Jones, both of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 8:30 p.m. Tuesday from the Morris-Baker South Chapel. The Rev. John Yarbrough will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Friendly Bible Class and close friends. Private burial will be in the Monte Vista Burial Park.

Sylvia married Everett Marshall Harmon about 1936. Everett was born on 29 March 1912 in , Pocahontas County, West Virginia, ; died on 12 Mar 2008 in , Johnson County, Tennessee, ; was buried in Sugar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Johnson County, Tennessee, . [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

John R. Stanbery, 82, 1274 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, died Sunday, November 3, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Stanbery was a native of Johnson County and the son of the late John and Etta Burton Stanbery. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Hutchins Stanbery, May 22, 1999, and by several brothers and sisters.
Mr. Stanbery attended Borderview Christian Church and was a retired employee of General Motors. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in World War II, and was a member of Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166.
Survivors include two daughters, Suzanne Berkley, Linville, Tenn., and Kay Kent, Pontiac, Mich.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Celia Dugger, Gray. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

STANBERY -- Funeral services for John R. Stanbery, 82, 1274 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, who died Sunday, November 3, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Ron Marvel officiating. Music will be under the direction of Scott Reynolds and Ray Don Markland. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 7, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Military Honors accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Cecil Dugger, Harold Dugger, Tom Pleasant, Donald Pleasant, Steve Berkley and John Kent.
