Edward Ray Thompson, 95, of Newland, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at the Life Care Center of Banner Elk following a brief illness.
He was born on February 7, 1928 in Avery County, North Carolina, a son of the late Warnie Thompson and the late Alice Peters Thompson.
Ray worked for years in the tree farming industry. He enjoyed gardening, being outside, fishing and cars. Ray was a true outdoorsman.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Lee Dale; father, Warnie Thompson; mother, Alice Thompson.
Edward leaves behind to cherish his memory wife, Gwen Buchanan Thompson; one grandson, Stephen (Andrea) Dale of Hickory, NC; one granddaughter, Nadia (Cole) Carpenter of Newland, NC; five great grandchildren, Calliope Carpenter, Jackson Dale, Addie Dale, Inara Dale, and Bailey Dale.
Services for Edward R. Thompson will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 1:00 pm in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
