The graveside service and interment will be immediately following the funeral with Pastor Derrick Hughes of Little Mountain Baptist Church at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

    HAMPTON — Lola Whitehead Butler, 90, Hampton, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2015, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

    Born June 6, 1925 in Carter County, one of the children of the late Dayton and Mollie Ingram Whitehead. She attended Cloudland High School. Mrs. Butler retired as a Supervisor of the former East Tennessee Undergarment Factory.

    She was a member of the Little Mountain Baptist Church. Her hobbies were shopping and sewing.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Butler who died in 1984; by four brothers, Lawrence, Gene, Vernon and Darrell Whitehead; and three sisters, Voretta and Ruth Hill and infant Joyce Elizabeth Hill.

    Survivors include two sisters, Geraldine Arney, Elizabethton and Peggy Whitehead, Elk Park, North Carolina; two brothers, Byrl Whitehead and his wife June, Roan Mountain and Brady Lee Whitehead and wife Deloris, Hampton, Virginia; several nieces & nephews and great and great great nieces & nephews.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Raymond Hill officiating.

    Graveside Service and Interment will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2015, in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 12:20 p.m. Monday will be: Nicky, Billy, Robbie, Bobby, and Todd Whitehead, Clarence and Ernie Largent and Josey Oliver. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Raymond Hill, Curtis Carter, Freddie Julian, Mike Davis, Mike Blevins, Tom Reine, Mark Hill, Roling St Clair, Rocky, Steven, Estill, Ricky and Randy Whitehead, Muriel Townsend, Charles "Dud" Ingram, Leon Whitehead, David Vaught and employees of the former East Tennessee Undergarment Factory.

    The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at her residence.

    Wanda Gearldine Whitehead Arney, 83, Hampton, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center.
    A native of Carter County, and born in Roan Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Dayton and Mollie Ingram Whitehead.
    Wanda was a graduate of Cloudland High School and attended East Tennessee State College. She was employed as a CNA at Hillview Health Center for 30 years. Wanda was an avid UT Sports Fan, especially football. She had season tickets for over 45 years.
    Wanda loved family gatherings, going to Daytona Beach and shopping. She was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Byrl, Brady (BL), Lawrence, Gene, Vernon and Darrell Whitehead, and five sisters, Lola Butler, Voretta Hill, Ruth Hill, Peggy Whitehead and Infant Joyce Elizabeth Whitehead.
    Although she never had any children of her own, she was a mother to many.
    Survivors include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is also survived by a special friend and companion, Saint.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, September 10, at Memorial Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

    Peggy Charlyeene Whitehead passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019. She was born on September 22, 1939 in Roan Mountain, Tenn., and was the daughter of Dayton and Mollie Whitehead of Whitehead Hill, Roan Mountain. She was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church and was retired from North American Rayon in Elizabethton.
    Peggy enjoyed spending time with her daughter, granddaughter, son-in-law, and her grandpups, Josie and Candy. Most of her days were spent with special friends at Blue Ridge Housing in Elk Park, N.C. Her life-long love was watching NASCAR and cheering for Jeff Gordon. She also enjoyed her early morning visits to the RAMS Rack in Newland, N.C.
    Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mike Davis of Roan Mountain; granddaughter and husband, Kaylea and Derek Shelton of Elizabethton; sister, Geraldine Arney of Hampton; and a special niece and husband, LaGina and David Vaught of Jonesborough, Tenn. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
    She was preceded in death by her father, Dayton; her mother, Mollie; brothers, Byrl, Brady "BL", Lawrence, Gene, Vernon and Darrell Whitehead; and sisters, Lola Butler, Voretta and Ruth Hill and infant Joyce Elizabeth Whitehead.

    BUTLER - Raymond Hill, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at his home in Butler, Tennessee. Born in Roan Mountain, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Floyd and Ruth Whitehead Hill. Raymond was a graduate of Hampton High School and later went on to obtain bachelor and masters degrees from East Tennessee State University. As a life-long educator, Raymond began his career as a teacher at a two-room school in Poga, Tennessee before moving on to spend 25 years as a teacher and assistant principal at Hampton High School. He also served as principal at Siam Middle School and Hampton Elementary School before transitioning to leadership roles at the Carter County Board of Education. He served as Assistant Director of Schools from 1997-1999 and ultimately served as Director of Schools from 1999 until his retirement in 2001. Raymond was inducted into the Carter County Educators Hall of Fame in 2019 in recognition of his contributions in educating thousands of Carter County children during his nearly 42 years of serving as a teacher, principal, coach, and mentor.

    As a man of unwavering faith in God, Raymond was a member and deacon of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church in Butler, Tennessee. He previously was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church in Roan Mountain, where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and music director. Raymond most recently commemorated 55 years as a member of the Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge #566.

    In addition to his work and church duties, Raymond served on the Northeast Community Credit Union Board of Directors for 28 years. During that time, he served 17 years as Vice Chairman and the last year as Chairman of the Board.

    Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, as well as a brother, Eddie Hill. Survivors include his wife of nearly 48 years, Karen; two daughters, Susan and Lindsey, as well as a son-in-law, John Feathers. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Nicholas Kosco of Bradenton, Florida; his grandchildren: Reagan, Alyssa, and Jake Feathers and Makayla Dockery. Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special niece and nephew LaGina and David Vaught; An honorary daughter, Jamie McQueen as well as special friends and travel companions, James “Monroe” Stevens and Sandra Forbes.

    A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 14th, preceded by visiting hours from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton, Tennessee. Pastor Dennis Wilson officiating. a special eulogy will be delivered by Kevin Ward, and music will be provided by Bill Anderson. Those serving as pallbearers include: John Feathers, David Vaught, Junior McQueen, Jason McQueen, Eddie Lewis, Adam Morton, Greg Marlow, and Chris Pierce. Honorary pallbearers include: Bernie Hill, Nick Kosco, Kevin Ward, Dallas Williams, Bill Shoun, Jerry Bowers, his church family, Cobbs Creek Baptist Church, and members of the Northeast Community Credit Union Board of Directors. The Entombment services will be held on Thursday, December 15th at 1:00 p.m. at the Mausoleum of Faith at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton, Tennessee. A Masonic Service will be conducted by Roan Mountain Lodge # 566 following the funeral service.

    ROAN MOUNTAIN - Yvonne Kay Whitehead, 63, of Roan Mountain, TN went to be with her Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2017 after a battle with cancer.

    Yvonne was born on August 16, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan. She is the daughter of June Whitehead and the late Byrl Whitehead. She was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Taylor, Michigan where she resided for several years before joining the Army in 1978 where she received Medical Lab Assistance Training. She retired from Michigan Correctional Facility.

    She was preceded in death by her father, Byrl Whitehead, one sister V. Sherrye Reine and one niece, Beth Reine.


    She is survived by her mother June Whitehead, Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Vanessa Reine, nephews, Britt Reine and Thomas Holloway and several aunts, uncle and cousins, and special friends Terry Catt and Vicky Curtise.

    She was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church where she enjoyed her church duties.
