Julia Thompson Benfield, 78, of Newland, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at her residence.

Julia was born on February 16, 1944 in Avery County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Charles Roscoe Thompson and the late Lola Taylor Thompson.

She loved to paint, and was known for her beautiful paintings she would share with her friends and family. Julia enjoyed being in her garden and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her Husband, Julian Lee Benfield; father, Charles Roscoe Thompson; mother, Lola G Thompson; two sisters, Clara Shaw McKinney, Martha Benfield; two brothers, Ray Thompson, Junior Thompson.

Julia leaves behind to cherish her memory two sons, Jeff (April) Benfield of Newland, NC, Tim (Angie) Benfield of Newland, NC; sister, Elizabeth (Mike) Rice of Old Fort, NC; brother, Wade (Cindy) Thompson of Elk Park, NC; two sister-in-laws, Joyce Brewer of Newland, NC, Gina Barrier of Morganton, NC; grandchildren, Cassandra (Chad) Bare, Ashley (Billy) Johnson, Emily (Jason) Winters, Josh (Natasha) Benfield, Jordan Benfield; Great Grandchildren, Gavin, Adalynn, Lily, Mila, Birdie, River, Flynt, and Kohen.

Tuesday, February 14, 2023, the family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, followed by the service beginning at 3 p.m. with Rev. Bryan Griffith and Pastor Bo Deaton officiating. Private interment will be in the Benfield Family Cemetery.
