David Fair, (better known as Friday Fair) well known resident of Elizabethton died at his home on First street early this morning.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Freewill Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock with the Rev. Clarence Howington in charge. Interment will be in the Carter cemetery (Siam Road).
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. David Fair; four daughters, Mrs. Mae Burrow, Mrs. Jack Walker, and Mrs. Retta Heaton, all of Elizabethton, and Mrs. Troy Bowers, Siam; four brothers, James Fair, of California, John, Nome, and William Fair, Elizabethton; three sisters, Mrs. Rufus Miller, Washington, D. C., Mrs. Nat Honeycutt, of Indiana, and Mrs. Marion Forbes, Elizabethton; also 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Fair was a member of the Freewill Baptist church.

Mrs. Emily Belle Hinkle died yesterday afternoon at 2:45 at her home on Ford Street, following three months of serious illness. She was 60 years old.
Mrs. Hinkle was a lifetime resident of Carter County, and a member of the Charity Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Hinkle; three daughters, Mrs. Annie Cornett, Mrs. Hattie Vance, and Mrs. Erma Crowe; two sons, Worley F. Hinkle, and James Christine Hinkle; ten grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Nannie Burrow and Mrs. Maggie Deloach; one brother, Ollie Collins; all of Elizabethton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Houston Blevins and the Rev. Clarence Howington officiating. Pallbearers will be chosen from friends of the deceased.
The body will remain at the Teterick[sic] Funeral Home until 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon.

DEATH TAKES L. E. COLLINS
Luther Elbert Collins, 24, died at the home of his mother, Mrs. G. O. Collins, 810 Maple street Sunday at 4:30, following an illness of lengthy duration, having been seriously ill since March 1st, with a heart disorder.
The deceased was a young man of sterling character and was loved and admired by all those who formed his acquaintance, his quiet nature and kindly attitude immediately drawing them to him. In early life, he became very ill and it was during this time that he learned the value of patience which was so visible throughout his short life. At the time he was taken ill he was attending the Johnson City Business College.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. G. O. Collins; five sisters, Mrs. T. V. Carriger and Mrs. Primus Dees, Johnson City; Mrs. J. H. Carriger, Kingsport; Mrs. Ernest Jackson and Margaret Collins, Elizabethton; one brother, James H. Collins, Clinchco, Virginia. His father died a few years ago.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30,t he Rev. C. L. Bowden, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be made in Highland Cemetery. Mrs. C. L. Bowden will be in charge of the music.

Funeral services for James Fair, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Fair, who died Sunday morning at 11 o'clock at his home, were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence by the Rev. Clarence Howington with interment in the Carter grave yard.
Young Fair was found badly burned near the Watauga river bridge Saturday by the driver of a bakery truck. He was picked up and taken to his home where his condition was reported serious. Yesterday he developed pneumonia fever resulting in his death.
Fair is said to have been in company with Ike Blevins and Doodle Burrow, fishing in the Watauga. They had a bon fire and it is believed that he either fell or was pushed in some unexplained way, into the blaze, his clothes and body being badly seared.
Survivors include the father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Fair; four sisters, Analine, Novell, Retia and Mrs. Mag Burrow; and one brother, Ben Fair.
Pallbearers included W. C. Forbes, Herman Lodge, Lynn Fair, Bill Lee, Lonnie Martin and Milton Estep.
Flower bearers: Eddie Roberson, Fabie McKinney, Blanch Howington, Emma Bowers, Etta Hoss and Orgie Winebarger.

ELIZABETHTON — It is with God's peace that we announce the soul of Ralph Howard Fletcher, 86, of Elizabethton, went to join his Lord on Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, with his family by his side.

Mr. Fletcher was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Andrew J. and Mary Nave Fletcher. In addition to his parents, Ralph has now joined his three brothers and two sisters in heaven.

He was a 1942 graduate of Unaka High School, worked for 23 years and retired from ITT Corporation.

Ralph was known for his faithfulness and the loyalty he gave not only to his family but also extended to his friends and business associates.

Mr. Fletcher belonged to the following organizations: Member and Past Master of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #622, Past High Priest of R.D. Keller Chapter #214, Past Illustrious Master of B.E. Wooten Council #119 and Carter Commandery #37, Charter Member of Jericho Shrine Temple, 32nd Degree of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Knoxville, Past President of Upper East Tennessee York Rite Association, Illustrious Grand Master of Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of Tennessee, Member of Knight Cross of Honor, received Order of the Purple Cross, Member and Past Worthy Patron of Sycamore Chapter #163 Order of Eastern Star and member of Grand Chapter of Tennessee Order of Eastern Star, Member and Past Governor of North East Tennessee York Rite College #153, Member Red Cross of Constantine and The Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priest.

He was also a member and former Deacon of Oak Street Baptist Church.

Ralph leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia Davis Fletcher; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Joe Reed, one granddaughter, Dena Michelle Richardson, all of Daytona Beach, Florida; two special nieces and caretakers, Angela Richardson and Diana Wright, both of Elizabethton. Several other nieces and nephews survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Hendrich officiating.

Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. MEADOWVIEW, Va. - Vern Williams, 86, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at his residence.
He was born in Carter County, Tenn., and had lived most of his life in Washington County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Damascus and loved his Sunday school class very much.
He served his country proudly and with honor in the U. S. Navy during World War II. While in the Navy, he was a featherweight boxing champion. He was a retired fitter welder with Bristol Metals. While employed there, he was very instrumental with the construction of the Bristol Va./Tenn. sign on State Street.
He was a farmer who loved to garden and enjoyed going to the farmer's market. He was an avid reader who enjoyed reading Appalachian history. He also loved his faithful Labrador Retriever, Foxxy.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Nannie L. Williams; 2 sisters; and 11 brothers.
He is survived by his son, Vernie Williams and wife Sue of Meadowview; four daughters, Jane Day and husband Randall of Sparta, Tenn., Donna Fuller and husband Jimmy of Damascus, Suzanne McGlocklin of Bristol, Va., and Kim Parks of Bristol, Va.; one brother, Lester Williams of Londonberry, N.H.; one sister, Pauline Richardson of Grand Prairie, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, June 26, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, with Pastor David Matlock officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The committal service will be conducted Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Wayne Guinn officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veteran's Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to assemble at the cemetery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest A. Blevins, on April 3, 2000; two brothers, Harold and Harmon Glover; and a nephew, Douglas Glover.
Mary Sue was retired from SmithKlineBeecham Pharmaceutical, after 45 years of service. She was a member of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She also attended Biltmore Baptist Church and served as WMU President for several years.
Survivors include a nephew, Stephen Glover and wife Sandy, and their son, Gary; a niece, Patti Frack and husband Jim, all of Lutherville, Md.; a great-nephew, Brian Glover, with sons, Brett and Tyler; and a great-niece, Dionne Rash and daughter, Hannah. Funeral services for Private First Class William T. (Buck) DeLoach, 26, whose body will arrive in Johnson City Saturday at 9:52 a.m., will be conducted at the East Side Baptist Church Sunday at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Willard Kelly and the Rev. Robert Pettitt officiating. Burial will be in the DeLoach Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Guy, R. L. and James Treadway, Earnest Greenwell, Paul Bowling, Odis Greenwell and Ray Garland.
The Watauga Post Number 49, Carter County American Legion will conduct military services at the cemetery.
Private DeLoach entered service August 17, 1943 and received his base training at Camp Van Doran, Miss. And Camp Kilmore, New Jersey. He was shipped overseas June 20, 1944 and served with Company “C” of the 357th Infantry. He landed in New Burnsville, France in July 1944 and was killed in action October 3, 1944 and was buried in United States Military Cemetery in Andelly, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. Before entering service he was employed by the Spinning department of the American Bemberg Corporation.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Inez Winders DeLoach of 705 East Maple Street, Johnson City; one son, Gene A. DeLoach of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Grindstaff of Route 1, and Mrs. Lee Bird Mettler of Elizabethton and two brothers, Andy DeLoach of Route 5, and Alford DeLoach of Route 1, Elizabethton.
The body will be taken to the home on 705 East Maple Street in Johnson City Saturday at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Martin was born February 12, 1920, in Elizabethton, TN, the daughter of the late Ollie Gilson Collins and Dessie Nave Collins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Martin Jr.; and 5 brothers; and 4 sisters.

Ruby is survived by her sister, Wilma Jean Elliott (Elizabethton, TN).

She is also survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Adams and husband, Robert, (Dacula, GA); her son, Tony J. Martin and wife, Julia (Johnson City, TN); three granddaughters, Tonya Whitman, Jan Nagel and Tassy Von Kracke; and four grandsons, Travis Martin, Scott Adams, Brad Adams and Todd Adams; and 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruby Martin retired from J.C. Penney Company after working 28 years in May 1989, a job she dearly loved. Ruby was an active member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church for many years.

Mrs. Hinkle was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Ollie Collins and Lula White Pierce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Hinkle; by an infant son; by one brother, Spencer Pierce; and by four sisters, Shirley Pierce, Lena Ward, Marie Smith and Dorothy Lee.

Mrs. Hinkle was retired from American Bemberg Corp. with 32 years of service. She was a member of Pierce Baptist Church and had attended Union Baptist Church. She loved her church and her family.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Eddie and Randy Lewis, Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Jessica Brooke Lindsey, Johnson City; one brother, Haskell Pierce, Butler; several nieces and nephews; her special companion, Cody Lewis; and her many friends.

The funeral service for Ethel Pierce Hinkle will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, December 15, 2008, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev Harvey White and Rev. Pete Pollard officiating.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Tom “Mac” McDonald Carriger and wife Cathryn, longtime partner and the love of her life Alan Lee Hubatka, Nephew Tom F. Peggy was of the Baptist faith and attended First Baptist Church in Elizabethton. She loved her family and enjoyed traveling and entertaining. Peggy was always on the go and loved life.

Sam was born in Albuquerque New Mexico but spent most of his life in the Elizabethton-Piney Flats area. Sam loved his church family and was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church. Sam loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Sam is preceded in death by his mother Margaret Elliott Fitzgerald and father Samuel Elliott Sr.

Dorothy Lee Burrow, 90, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018.
Dorothy was the daughter of the late Frank and Lillie Mae Burrow. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Edwin Burrow, and her sister, Vivian Hopson.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Bernice Burrow, and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy loved country music, people and animals. She was always content in every situation she was in. She was always ready for a laugh, seeing humor in the smallest of matters. She just desired that her memory be cherished.
Dorothy's last years were at Signature Health Care in Elizabethton and the family would like to "thank them" for all the love and care they gave to Dorothy along with the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

ELIZABETHTON - Grady Ben Fair, 89, Elizabethton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2016 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Ben & Ida Nell Estep Fair. Grady proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was retired from the Dairy Business having owned and operated Farm Best Dairy for several years. He was an active member of East River Park Christian Church where he was a greeter and he was the candy man for the children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Norma Lowe Fair, two brothers: Dana & Wayne Fair and one sister: Carolyn Runnion.

He is survived by his second wife: Lavelle "Bo" Hopson Fair; Son Steve & Ruth Ann Fair (Ben, Tim & Sarah), Daughter: Susan & Kenton Farr (Kelly, Nick), Son: David (Hunter & Chase). Two Step-sons: Danny Gourley, Rutledge, Tenn. and Richard Gourley, of Florida. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2016 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. John H. Smith, and Nick Farr Ministers officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Steve, Ben & Tim Fair officiating. Music will be provided by Kenneth Hartley and Mary Smith. Ruth was a member of Edgefield United Methodist Church.

It is with great grief that we mourn the departure of a precious, very much-loved Daddy, Husband, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Brother in love, and Friend, Russell Peters, who, at 85, finished his earthly journey and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. We are devastated by his loss, but we remain with the spiritual values he instilled in us and will forever cherish every day that we had as his beloved family, forever grateful to God for this precious gift. He was the son of the late Clarence M. and Dora Fletcher Peters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and their spouses: Jack and Helen Fletcher, Bynum and Lena Peters, and Willard and Joan Peters. Russell was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church and had done various church work over the years. He was a veteran, having served in the National Guard and Army Reserve. Most of his work years were with East Tennessee Chair Company as a band saw operator, who took pride and care in his part of producing beautiful pieces for various chairs. He also worked at NAR and then retired from Blue Ridge Fabricators. He was still an avid go-getter and worked hard, putting his family first with his remaining abilities up to the two weeks preceding his departure. He was at one time an avid gardener, fisherman, hunter-gatherer, wood artist, and enjoyed the mountains and beauty of God’s creation. Those left to cherish his memories and legacy are his beloved, devoted wife of 55 years, Bonnie Peters and cherished daughter, Jill Peters, along with her significant other Tom Davis, two beloved brothers, Norman Peters, Roscoe and Lynetta Peters, two beloved sisters Joyce Grindstaff and Jeanette Bowers, two Brothers and three sisters in love, Charlie(Tom) and Linda Williams, Marvin Williams, Cora Beaumont, and Brenda Riddle, along with treasured nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, as well as many spiritual brothers and sisters. An open visitation for Russell will be held Monday, May 22, 2023, between the hours of 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Willard Peters, 81, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 5, 2021, from Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on January 19, 1940 to the late Clarence Millard Peters and Dora Belle Fletcher Peters.
Willard was employed by Summers-Taylor, where he retired. He was a member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. Willard was loved by everyone that had the joy of knowing him. He will be terribly missed by many. After he retired, Willard went back to get his GED. He also served as a volunteer firefighter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Joann F. Peters; an infant sister; his brothers, Jack Fletcher and wife Helen and Bynum Peters and wife Lena; and his brother-in-law, Landon Grindstaff.
Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Wendy Peters of Elizabethton; a step-son and step-daughter, whom he considered his own, Steve Williams and Linda Birchfield, both of Elizabethton; three granddaughters, Cindy James of Elizabethton, Whitney Vines of Kingsport and Lakisha Vines of Knoxville; two great-granddaughters, Caytlin James and Lakyn James, both of Elizabethton; his brothers, Russell Peters and wife Bonnie, Roscoe Peters and wife Lynetta and Norman Peters, all of Elizabethton; and his sisters, Joyce Grindstaff and Jeanette Bowers, both of Elizabethton. Selma was a loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, Nana, Grand-Nana, and good friend to countless people. She was a charter member of the Arlington SDA Church, helping to build the congregation from a 35-member church to one that is now over 2,300 members strong. After faithfully serving as the church secretary/treasurer for over 20 years, she retired in order to enjoy family and friends. She resided in Keene, Texas, the last two years of her life, where she was loved and cared for by many wonderful staff members of Chisholm Trail Estates. ELIZABETHTON - M E “Milt” Fair, age 88, of Elizabethton, died Tuesday, January 4, 2022 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness. He was born May 21, 1933 in Carter County and was the son of the late Dave and Annie Hampton Fair. He was a member of the Centerview Church of Christ. M E was a well-known retired car dealer as the owner of Fair’s Motors on West Elk Avenue. His love for horses was shown as he owned many horses and rode many horse trails in East Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Dennis Fair, four sisters, Edith Pierce, Eulee Carden, Margaret Greene and Helen James, seven brothers, Conley Fair, Jarvis Fair, Clarence Fair, Luther Fair, John Fair, Winifred Fair and L D Fair.
He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Life service for M E “Milt” Fair will be conducted at 2:00 P M Saturday, January 8, 2022 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home-Elizabethton with Mr. Tony Hoss, Minister officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jerry Pierce, soloist.

Shirley Anne Curde passed away and went to be with her Lord on April 10, 2022 after a long difficult battle with several illnesses. Born October 22, 1935, she was lovingly known as Moma,Nana, Curly, and Daisy Mae . She celebrated her 86th year of life this past year and will be missed by many in the Carter County community.
Shirley was a faithful member at First Christian Church in Elizabethton and a former member at Brick Christian Church in Watauga. She served as secretary at both churches.
She graduated from and played basketball for Elizabethton High School and Milligan College. For many years she then played softball in church and city leagues. She sang and led choirs and loved to be outdoors. Shirley worked at the Elizabethton Health Department for 36 years, then as Regional Health Department Director.
Shirley is proceeded in death by her parents, Virgil and Ada Bowers and by her loving husband of 59 years, Bruce Curde. She will be lovingly remembered by those left behind: Sister Nancy White, Brother David Bowers, Daughter Leslie Brockley (husband Randy), daughter Cindy Brown (husband Bob), Grandchildren Rachelle Ott, Jason Peters (wife Erin), and Matthew Ott (wife Brittany), Aaron and Anna Brockley and Amanda and Randy Brown, great grandchildren Jordan Seljouki, Natalie and Eli Peters, Madison and Kaleb Ott, and Wesley and Winnie Brockley. She is also survived by sisters-in-laws Dorothy McLain, Sonja Smalling (husband Doug) and Chris Greer, and her beloved dog, Buddy.
The service for Shirley Curde will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel, on April 15, 2022 at 1 p.m. with Mr. Jeff Campbell, Minister and Mr. Michael Klaus, Minister, officiating; special music by Gene & Carolyn Estep and Ray Don Markland; Scripture reading and Eulogy: Jason Peters and Rachelle Ott. BLUFF CITY - Dorothy O'Dell of Bluff City, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 from the Courtyards Assisted Living in Johnson City.

Dorothy was born in the Chinquapin Community to the late Eddie L. and Millie Smith Richards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl O'Dell; two sisters, Ruby Carrier and Rhoda "Bea" Lowe; and one niece, Judy Scoggins.

Dorothy was a dedicated homemaker, mother and wife. She was a member of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church and also attended Bluff City First Christian Church. She loved to travel with her husband and family and loved going to the beach. She enjoyed her special friends in her Sunday School Class at Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church and gardening, cooking and watching her favorite sports teams – the Atlanta Braves and the Tennessee Lady Vols.

Those left to cherish her memories include two sons, Barry Kent O'Dell and Rodney Eric O'Dell; one daughter, Jill Fair and husband Roger; one very special grandchild, Skylar Fair; and several nieces and nephews.

Emma Jean Cornett Harmon, 87, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019, at the home of her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Jeff Henson, 1410 Trafford Lane, Savannah, Ga., 31410.
Emma Jean was a native of Carter County, having moved to Savannah in 2016. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Annie Cornett.
Emma Jean had been an employee of Magnavox and retired from North American Rayon Corporation. She was a member of Valley Forge United Methodist Church in Elizabethton.
Emma Jean enjoyed spending a lot of time in downtown Elizabethton. Many of the merchants she knew first-hand and they knew her on a first-name basis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dallas Wayne Cornett, and four brothers, Albert Carter Cornett, Charles James "Baldy" Cornett, "Latcheye" Howard Edward Cornett and Billy Bob Cornett.
Survivors include two sisters, Earlene Cornett Phillips and husband, Roy, and Joyce Ann Cornett Henson and husband, Jeff; a brother, Floyd "Meatball" Cornett and wife, Gloria; and a special niece, Lisa Marie Roberts Jones. Several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Floyd Aroline “Meatball” Cornett, 83, of Pensacola, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022. He was born on December 12, 1938 in Elizabethton, Tenn., to the late Fredrick Charles and Annie Amelia Hinkle Cornett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Junior, Albert, Charles, Howard and Billy Cornett; one sister, Emma Jean Cornett Harmon; and by several nieces, nephews and great-nephews.
Floyd worked at Chemstrand/Monsanto until he retired in 1994. He was then employed at Quest Diagnostics for 23 years until he retired in May of 2021.
Floyd was an avid Tennessee Vols fan.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gloria Fay Cornett; his children, Tammy (Craig) Ketterman, Donna Lombardi and Gary Durden; three grandchildren, Chuckie Ketterman, Tiffany Durden and Alex (Rebecca) Durden; two great-grandchildren, Alaska and Ellis; two sisters, Earlene Phillips and Joyce (Jeff) Henson. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 14, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home.

ELIZABETHTON — Billy Bob Cornett, 61, Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at his residence following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Fredrick Charles and Annie Amelia Hinkle Cornett. He was as a carpenter, security officer and custodian until his early retirement.

He was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Junior, Albert, Charles "Baldie" and Howard "Latcheye" Cornett; and several aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews.

He was an avid fisherman and loved to go camping.

Survivors include three sisters, Emma Jean Harmon of the home, Earlene (Roy) Phillips, Fall Branch and Joyce (Jeff) Henson, Elizabethton; one brother, Floyd (Gloria) Cornett, Pensacola, Florida; his special friend, Donna Whitehead.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Joel Cook officiating.

Grady was a painter and carpenter. He loved his grandchildren, going fishing and riding his four-wheeler.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Alfred & Elizabeth Treadway Deloach.

Mr. Deloach served in the United States Army as a cook. He was a retired truck driver having retired from Carter Enterprise. Mr. Deloach was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church.

Charles Jack Deloach, Sr., 64, 138 Deloach Road, Elizabethton, died unexpectedly at Sycamore Shoals Hospital on Friday, March 23, 2001.
A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late James Alfred and Elizabeth Treadway Deloach.
He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corp.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Lance Deloach; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Emily Gobble Deloach; three brothers, Carl Edward Deloach, Lloyd Grady Deloach and James C. Mrs. Loveless attended Charity Hill Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Jack Deloach. Shirley Ann Deloach Smith, 75, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Signature Healthcare Center following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late James Alfred and Elizabeth Treadway Deloach.
Mrs. Smith was a dedicated and loving mother, a former employee of the American Bemberg Corporation, and was a cashier at Race Way for several years. Shirley loved arts and crafts, making floral designs and home decorations were amongst some of her favorite. She also adored the beach, sunshine, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith and attended as many guest services her health would allow.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Deloach, Carl Deloach and Grady Deloach, and two sisters, Ruby Loveless and Joyce Arnett.
Survivors include her children, Donna Kay Presnell (Mike Wilhoit) and Ricky Lee Smith, both of Elizabethton, and four grandchildren, Tabitha Dawn Whitlock, Brandy Faith Boles, Amy Elizabeth Huskins and Amber Nichole Presnell. Shirley was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Charlotte Walker of Ohio, Carolyn Jenkins and Judy Blackburn, both of Elizabethton; and one brother, Jimmy Deloach, Elizabethton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Doug Hinshaw officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 26, in the Deloach Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jason Russell, Jamie Jenkins, Randy Jenkins, Luke Boles, Cody Whitlock and Mike Wilhoit. She was a native of Elizabethton and was a daughter of the late Alfred and Elizabeth Treadway Deloach.
Joyce was a homemaker. She was a member of Upper Room Family Worship Center.
Survivors include: her husband, Jerry Arnett; two daughters, Kim Miller, and her husband Philip, and Renee Arnett; three sons, Timmy Arnett, and his wife Sue, Neil Arnett, and Mark Arnett; 13 grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

Fred Howard DeLoach, 17, died at his home, Route 1, Wednesday evening at 8:00 o'clock. He has been in poor health since birth.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy DeLoach; three sisters, Barbara DeLoach, Geraline DeLoach, and Patsy DeLoach, all of the home; two brothers, Harry and Larry DeLoach also of the home; and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Samantha McConnell of Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
Funeral services will be conducted at the home of an aunt, Mrs. Paul Grindstaff of Route 1, Friday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock with the Rev. Crucy Holder officiating. Burial will be in the DeLoach Cemetery.
The body will be moved to the home of Mrs. Grindstaff Friday morning at 10:00 o'clock from the chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Bobbie DeLoach, two-weeks old son of Mr. and Mrs. Buck DeLoach, who died at the home, 613 South Roan, yesterday morning at 10:30, will be conducted from the home this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. Scott Lawson will be in charge. Burial will be made in the family cemetery.

Gene Austin Deloach, 76, Johnson City, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020, at his home following a long battle with cancer.
Gene was a Carter County native and lived in Johnson City since he was a child. He was a son of the late William Thomas Deloach and Inez Winters Deloach Phillips.
Gene was a 1961 graduate of Science Hill High School and received bachelor degrees from both ETSU and Tusculum College. He was formerly employed with the City of Johnson City as an Assistant Purchasing Director before going to the City of Elizabethton where he developed their first Purchasing Department, later retiring in 2007.
Gene made many close friends while working in both city governments. After retiring, being the social butterfly that he was, took a part-time job at Lowe’s of Elizabethton. Then, after 7 years at Lowe’s he accepted a job at the Johnson City Memorial Community Center.
In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his step-father, James R. Phillips, Sr.; brother, Jimmy Phillips; sister, Linda Phillips Joiner; father in law and best friend, Sam Street, Jr.; brother in law, Tim S. Street.

ELIZABETHTON - Edna Tidwell Mann, age 93, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton. Edna was born in Carter County, Tennessee on November 2, 1928, a daughter of the late Vegie and Thelma Inez (Collins) Tidwell. In addition to her parents, Edna was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, William E. “Jack” Mann; and two brothers, Hyman (Pansy) Tidwell and James Ollie Tidwell.

Edna retired from Univac and was a lifelong member of Stoney Creek Baptist Church. She was also a member of Grace Baptist Church in Elizabethton and a member of the Eastern Star Sycamore Chapter #163. Edna enjoyed cross stitching, gardening in her flowers and making flower arrangements from her flowers, reading and spending time with her three granddogs.

Those left to cherish and remember Edna include two daughters, Sherry (Conn) Nave of Elizabethton, TN and Tracie A Mann of Johnson City, TN; her sister, Inez Duren of Atlanta, Georgia and several nieces and nephews and her church families.

An open visitation will be conducted from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 20, 2022 in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton for friends to sign the register book and pay their condolences.

The committal and entombment service for Edna will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 21, 2022 in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. Kenneth Jordan, officiating. Active pallbearers will be David Rock, Brady Williams, Dean Grindstaff, Rodney Campbell, Steve Mullins, and Steve Kaylor. Her church family will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Terry Sams, known to a generation of young Augusta television viewers as "Trooper Terry," has died at the age of 80.
Sams, of North Augusta, entertained thousands of area children from 1962 to 1982 on Channel 6.
"We had live birthday parties and the kids were the stars," he recalled in a 2007 interview, estimating about 156,000 children participated in the program during its 20-year run.
The children from his show are now parents and grandparents, he said, and he knew of at least two viewers who named their children after him.
Sams also had a serious side, reporting news, weather and sports.
Growing up in Tennessee, he said he had no intention of becoming a television personality. He actually wanted to be a musician.
But at 16, he took a radio job at WBEJ, then another one in Johnston City, Tenn., then Lexington, Ky., until he landed in Augusta in 1961.
After retiring, Sams remained active in the community as an advocate for The Salvation Army and at First Baptist Church of North Augusta, where he played the trombone during church services.

ELIZABETHTON - Gene Sams, age 83, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Hillview Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the son of Elmer B. Sams, Sr. and Pearl Humphrey Sams. He was a 1956 graduate of Elizabethton High School and 1960 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a Bachelors in Business Administration. Gene served in the U.S. Army and owned and operated a State Farm Insurance agency for 49 years. He was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and his favorite activity singing in the choir for 60 years.

Gene was a former President of Jaycees and United Way. He also served on the boards of Elizabethton Electric and Elizabethton Housing Authority, Boys and Girls Club of Carter County and Friends of Sycamore Shoals.

In retirement, Gene worked as a volunteer at Hale Community Ministries. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with friends and family and attending any sporting event possible with his best friend, Larry Treadway.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Sams and son, Stacy Sams.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Sonja Sams, of the home; son, Kevin Sams (Elaine), of Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren, Ashley Davis (Keaton), of Murfreesboro, TN, Patrick Sams (Abby), of Lansing, NY and Alex Sams, of Murfreesboro, TN; two brothers, B.J. Sams, of Little Rock, AR and Elmer Sams, Jr. (Frances), of Elizabethton, TN and sisters-in-law, Kathryn Young, of Bristol, TN and Shirlene Sams, of North Augusta, SC; special family friend, Katrina Nidiffer and special friend/caregiver, Wanda Turner.

A service to celebrate the life of Gene Sams will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 21, 2022 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Dr. Joe Sorah and Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. Music will be under the direction of Calvary Men’s Ensemble. The family will receive friends between the hours of 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM prior to the service on Thursday.

The graveside service and committal will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Chris Hughes officiating.
