Andrew enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 27 September 1940 in New York. His first assignment was aboard the U. S. S. Platte. He was stationed at the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan during the 1950s where his children were born. Andrew retired fromm the U.S. Navy on 31 July 1970.
