    FALL BRANCH -- Paul Baskett, 85, of Hawley Road, Blountville, passed away Tuesday at Bristol Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health.

    An agricultural community leader, he owned and managed three dairy operations in three counties in a family partnership. Their Echo-Hills Holstein herd was nationally known; animals were frequent winners at shows across the Southeast; some were sold and exported to other countries.

    Paul was a long-term director of the Appalachian Holstein Breeders, sale chairman for many years of their successful sales which attracted nationwide buyers, and instrumental in the success of the 1980 National Holstein Convention Sale held on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.

    He also served on the board of Washington County DHIA.

    Supportive of young family farmers, he often sold animals to beginning dairymen in affordable sales agreements to give their herds a good start. His encouragement to young dairy enthusiasts fostered the successful careers of many in the dairy industry.

    He was the original founder and owner of Muddy Creek Moto-Cross and Raceway in Blountville. A great believer in his Lord, he was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, Jonesborough.

    He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years: Wanda Luster Baskett; a brother: Ruble "Junior" Baskett; and his parents: Ruble and Eva Baskett.

    He is survived by his sons, Lynn (companion Julie Tisdale), of Jonesborough, and Jim, (companion Karen Jones) of Limestone; a grandson: Joshua Paul Baskett; a granddaughter: Kim (Jason) Fleming of Jonesborough; a brother: Mike (Lisa) of Jonesborough; three sisters: Geneva (J.S.) Murray and Wilma Baskett, both of Jonesborough, and Lorna Evans of Chuckey; a sister-in-law: Jerri Baskett of Jonesborough; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his valued farm associate: Tommy Cloyd; his treasured caregiver: Teresa Pelletier; and a special friend, Gladys Duvall.

    The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at Oak Hill Baptist Church in Jonesborough with the funeral service following at 8 p.m. The Rev. Joe Blankenship and the Rev. Vic Wallace will preside.

    Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church cemetery.

    JONESBOROUGH - Geneva Naomi Baskett Murray, age 93, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022.
    Geneva was the daughter of the late Ruble and Eva Brawner Baskett. She was predeceased by her husband, J.S. Murray Jr.; sisters, Lorna Evans and Wilma Baskett; and brothers, Paul and Ruble Baskett Jr. She is survived by her brother, Mike Baskett; stepchildren, Lewis Murray, Dianne Mooney, Joe Murray, and Bobby Murray; and several treasured nieces and nephews.
    Geneva was committed to public service. From high school graduation until her retirement, she spent her entire career working in the Washington County courthouse. The first female elected to a full time constitutional office in Washington County history, she served two terms as County Trustee before retiring in 1986.
    Geneva was a lifelong and faithful member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. Her faith was fully on display in the exemplary manner in which she lived her life. She was truly a good person and a role model to many. An excellent hostess and cook, Geneva frequently staged large family gatherings. She was also a smart, funny, and an interesting person who loved watching the UT women play basketball.
    On Sundays, Geneva could always be found at her church. Most other days she and J.S. could be found on golf courses where she recorded four holes in one during her playing career. This accomplishment was both admired and envied by J.S.
    During her final years, Geneva was truly blessed to have Bill and Melody Glover as her caregivers and protectors. Her family is very thankful for Bill and Melody’s unwavering commitment to have Geneva stay in her home as long as possible.
    Geneva’s family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 am on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 10:00 am. Those attending are respectfully asked to please wear a face covering. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Lawn Cemetery.

    Michael Keith Baskett, 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2023
    surrounded by his loving family.

    He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. He was a service member of the Tennessee National Guard. He worked over 20 years at Kingsport Press/Quebecor. Horses were his passion and the barn his castle. He also enjoyed many sports: softball, basketball, and golf.

    Mike was a wonderful husband, father, brother, and son. Most of all he loved spending time with his wife of fifty years, Lisa, and his daughter and son-in-law.

    Mike had a great sense of humor. He was a kindhearted, genuine, hardworking, and a loving man. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

    He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Lisa; daughter, Amber Zahnd and husband Chris, along with many nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his father, Ruble Baskett Sr.; his mother, Eva Brawner Baskett; sisters, Lorna Evans, Wilma Baskett, and Geneva Murray; brothers, Paula and Ruble Baskett, Jr.

    Our family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and acts of kindness during this difficult time.

    The family will receive friends from 5 – 7pm on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. A funeral service will follow with Pastor Jon Reed officiating. Graveside services will take place at 3pm on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Oak Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

    JONESBOROUGH - D. Lynn Baskett, 68, of Jonesborough passed peacefully at his home January 11, 2023 after a lengthy illness.

    Lynn was born February 26, 1954 in Johnson City, Tn. and resided his entire life in Jonesborough.

    Along with his parents and brother, he helped build one of the most successful dairy farms in East Tennessee. Echo Hills produced countless championship Holstein cattle in the many years that it was operating.

    Lynn was known as a person that would lend a helping hand to anyone. He loved to laugh and give his friends and loved ones a “hard time”. His favorite past time was riding horses, especially his beloved Rusty.

    He was a wonderful Husband, Father, Papaw, Brother, and Friend that will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

    Lynn was preceded in death by his parents; Paul and Wanda (Luster) Baskett. He is survived by his loving wife, Julie Daniels Baskett; children, Kim Fleming (Cody Dickens) and Josh Baskett both of Blountville; his brother, Jim Baskett (Karen Jones) also of Blountville; stepchildren, Meagan Squires (Jimmy) and Michael Tisdale (Trish) of Illinois; and 12 grandchildren that he loved dearly.

    The family would like to thank Avalon Hospice for the wonderful care that they provided in his last days.
