DAVID M. SHOUN OF TAMPA DIES
David M. Shoun, age 93, retired teacher died July 27th in Tampa, Fla. He is survived by six nephews and one niece. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Tampa, Fla.
Mr. Shoun was born in Doe Valley, Johnson County, son of the late Samuel E. Shoun and Mary R. McQuown. He was the youngest son of a family of ten children — 8 boys and 2 girls. He was the last of his family.
He married Kate Forrest of McMinn County in 1915. She died in 1934 and his second marriage was to Lucy Belle Getch of Orlando, Fla. in 1937. She died in 1956.
He graduated from the Holly Springs College and Carson Newman College. He held the Master Degree in mathematics from Howard University. He taught in Carter and Sullivan County and Holly Springs College for a number of years and later taught in Thomasville, Ga. Leaving Georgia he went to Hillsboro High School in Tampa, Fla. as head of the mathematics department where served until his retirement from teaching; after this he worked with the Florida Teachers Credit Association.

David Fuller Stout, age 60 of Route 3, Mountain City, Doe Valley community, died at Cannon Memorial Hospital, Banner Elk, N.C., Monday at 1:00 a.m. from a heart attack. He was the son of the late Hamilton and Sarah Wills Stout; a native of Johnson County, a farmer and member of the Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Cora Lee Stout, Mountain City; one brother, Raymond Stout of Mountain City; three sisters, Mrs. Eula Swift, Mountain City; Mrs. Hattie Robinson, Mountain City, and Mrs. Etta Roberts, Alexandria, Virginia; also a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Bethany Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. C.H. Smith and Rev. Earl Campbell officiating. Burial was in Shoun cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jack Loggins, Burley Shoun, Ben Dillon, Sigh Mullins, John Burrow, Gail Stout. Flower bearers were ladies of the church and neighbors.

Funeral services for Clyde Mitchell "Hardrock" Shoun, former National League baseball pitcher, were held Friday afternoon.
Shoun died at Mountain Home Veterans Hospital near Johnson City, Tenn., on his birthday Wednesday after an extended illness. He was 56.
During his 14 years with the major leagues, he pitched for four clubs - the Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and the Boston Braves.
A Mountain City native, he acquired his nickname, "Hardrock," because of the speed in which he could throw a baseball during his youth.
Perhaps his greatest acclaim as a major league hurler came May 15, 1944, when he pitched a 1-0 no hitter for the Reds against the Braves. A third inning base on ball to his rival pitcher, Jim Tobin, deprived him of a perfect game.
A veteran of World Wra[sic] II, Shoun spent the 1945 season in the Navy. He ended his major league career in 1948 as a member of the Braves.
He compiled a record of 72 victories, 58 losses and 475 strikeouts during his major league career.
After leaving baseball, Shoun engaged in farming here.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Winnie Dugger Shoun; and three daughters, Mrs. Ann Boone, and Mrs. Linda Cress, both of Waco, Texas, and Miss Debra Jean Shoun, Mountain City.

Burley H. Shoun, 56, of Mountain City, Route 3, was killed instantly Thursday at 1:45 p.m. in a tractor and truck accident on Highway 67 near his home. He was a native of Johnson County, son of the late Walter G. and Victoria Cole Shoun. Mr. Shoun was a farmer and dairyman and was actively engaged in the farm and dairy programs of Johnson County; he was a former member of the Johnson County Court; member of Taylorsville Lodge 243, F&AM; member, deacon and the treasurer of Bethany Baptist Church. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Mildred Morley Shoun, Mountain City; two sons, Burley Joe Shoun, Lenoir, N.C. and Peter William Shoun, Mountain City; one daughter, Mrs. James L. Patterson of Johnson City; two brothers, H. Maine Shoun, Boise, Idaho and C. Otis Shoun, Cashmere, Wash.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from Bethany Baptist Church Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dean Smith, Rev. Earl Campbell and Rev. James L. Patterson officiating. Burial was in Shoun cemetery. Brad was born in Johnson County, Tenn., on February 6, 1912 to the late Isaac Wade and Hattie Luvenia Stout McQueen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Taylor McQueen, a grandson, B.J. Snyder, and several brothers and sisters.
Brad was a member of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and carpentry work. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Perkins and husband Ron of Butler, one Kenneth Ray McQueen and girlfriend Leslie Hall and son Tyler of Butler; one sister, Hazel McQueen Johnson of Elizabethton; one brother, James T. ELIZABETHTON - Hazel M. Johnson, 102, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Signature HealthCARE Wellness and Rehab Center (formerly Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center). She was born on October 1, 1915 in Old Butler to the late Isaac Wade and Venie Stout McQueen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, , Mae McQueen, Maude McQueen Grant, Mildred Slemp, Ruby Sutphin and five brothers, Ivory S. McQueen Kyman McQueen, Paul McQueen, Bradford McQueen and James McQueen.

Mrs. Johnson was a devoted daughter to her parents and a loving mother, who never stopped telling her son how to take care of his health. She always made a way to help family members and friends in need.

Hazel was the ninth born of ten to Isaac Wade and Venie Stout McQueen. She worked hard alongside her parents and siblings on the family's farms throughout Old Butler.

In her mid-twenties Hazel moved from the family home to Bristol, Tennessee where she met and married Master Sargent Harris Johnson in 1944. They had one son, Theron James Johnson who was born March 29, 1946. They later moved to Elizabethton, Tennessee where she was a homemaker. She loved gardening, crocheting, reading (while she was still able) and sewing. She received certification in Power Sewing Machine (Operator) from the Tennessee State Board of Vocational Education. She was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist Church and attended Riverview Baptist Church.

She was a simple women who put her trust in God. Throughout her life she always thought of others. In 1954 she uprooted her family to move to Maryland to stay with her niece, Yvonne, until Yvonne completed high school, after a fatal car crash took the lives of Yvonne's parents and brother. Hazel came back to her home in Elizabethton and continued to work hard raising her son and caring for her friends and neighbors.

She became a grandmother for the first time in 1968 to a grandson, Jamie Lance Johnson and then to a second grandson in 1975, Jason Vance Johnson. In 2012 she became a great-grandmother to Elijah James Roger Johnson the son of Jason Johnson and then again in 2016 when Hannah Johnson was born.

On the occasion of her 100th birthday, in October of 2015, she was honored with birthday wishes from President and Mrs. Barrack Obama, Governor Bill Haslam of Tennessee, and Leon Humphrey and the Carter County Commission. Even at the age of 100 she never missed the opportunity to share her knowledge on how to eat well and to live a long life.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Theron Johnson (Lise), of Elizabethton; two grandsons, Jamie Johnson (Kathy), of Gainesville, GA; Jason Johnson (Sarah) of Kingsport, TN; two step-grandchildren, Shawn Bright, of Jonesborough; Matthew Bright (Crystal), of Johnson City; and three great-grandchildren, Elijah Johnson, Katie Bright and Hannah Johnson.

A service to honor the life of Mrs. Johnson will be conducted on Monday, November 6, 2017, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, of Elizabethton with Rev. Mark Grubb and Rev. Larry Shorter officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Monday prior to the service.

The committal and entombment service will be conducted following the funeral service in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

He served our country proudly and was a United States Army Air Corp Veteran, having served in World War II. He was in the Burma Theater of operations, flying war supplies from India over "The Hump" into China.
He achieved the rank of captain and received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Distinguished Flying Cross with Two Oak Leaf Clusters for his war time service.

During his pilot training Dr. McQueen met his wife Mary Brooklyn New York, who was a lieutenant in the Army Corp of Nursing.

After his military service he received the degree of Doctor of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis and practiced in Sevierville from 1952 until his retirement in 1988.

Dr. McQueen was an avid golfer and trout fisherman enjoying fishing not only in his native East Tennessee, but also in the western states and Canada.

MOUNTAIN CITY — Hazel Bess "Nini" Wilson, age 99, of Mountain City, Tennessee, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was born to the late Dan and Jessie Wilson on February 6, 1912.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two children: Shirley Wilson and Richard "Dick" Wilson; brothers: Fred, Aurther, Shortie, Junior, Boyd and Ray Wilson; and a sister, Ruby Forrester.

Hazel is survived by her grandson, Thomas D. Wilson and wife, Dianne, of the home; granddaughter, Kelly Perkins, of Greenville, Tennessee; four great granddaughters: Christina Perkins, Taylor Tester, Lindsey and Courtney Wilson; sisters: Maxine King and Norma Jean Lowe; brother, J.C. Wilson; daughter-in-law, Sue Wilson; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Kaye Atwood and Laura Davis.

Ms. Hazel worked for the Johnson County School System for nearly 50 years. During that time, she worked as a teacher, substitute, secretary and an assistant. She is well remembered for the stories she shared with many children over the years

Ms. Hazel was a charter member of Dewey Christian Church, where she was a faithful member. She loved spending time with her family and visitors. Ms. Hazel lived a long full life and will be sadly missed.

Born June 22, 1931 to John B. and Amanda Wilson Pierce. Johnie was a homemaker and also a retired housekeeper at the Carter County Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, N. D. Estep and one son David Estep.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Estep and four sons, Hobert (Wess Lee), Roger, Larry "Cap" (Linda) and Douglas Estep and fur baby, Sally. Also, left to cherish her memory are four grandchildren, Tammy Lancaster (Nathan), Crystal Bilbery (Daniel), Brian Estep (Audra), and Daverelle Estep and several great-grandchildren. Mayor F. E. Robinson, 56, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, after several months of ill health. Robinson had been mayor of Mountain City for the past 17 years.
A lifelong resident of Johnson County, Robinson was a prominent farmer and a member of the Bethany Baptist Church.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Leona Greer Robinson, of the home, and one brother, Allan Robinson of Rt. 3, Mountain City.

E. ROBINSON, A PROGRESSIVE PUBLIC SERVANT.
The community and surrounding area lost a useful public servant and one of its most civic-minded leaders with the passing of Mayor F. E. Robinson.
He was born and lived his entire life in this community. His educational preparation for the useful life he led was acquired in the public schools of the county and through his own business endeavors in the various businesses in which he engaged.
He was one of the pioneers in the promotion and development of the green bean industry in the area, and continued his activity and interest in the industry as one of the principal factors of our economy. He always manifested a desire to better the plight of the community and its people.
Mr. Robinson was active in church and civil affairs, to the end.
The last 15 years of his life he served the town of Mountain City as alderman and mayor. He was also a member of the Johnson County Industrial Commission at the time of his death. His desire to make a better life for his people made him an ardent proponent of industry for Johnson County.
His progressive leadership as a public servant while mayor was exemplified in the erection of the modern municipal building which he and his board of alderman made possible. It was one of his contributions of which he was proudest.
He is survived by his wife, the former Leona Greer, and a brother, Allen Robinson.
Funeral services were conducted from the Valley View Methodist Church. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.

ELIZABETHTON - Elmer Gordon Brookshire, Sr, 97, of Elizabethton, passed away December 11, 2016, following a brief illness. He was the son of the late Sherman Gaines & Amanda Mae Stout Brookshire, born November 26, 1919 in Doe Valley in Johnson County, TN.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Williams and son-in-law, Bill Sheppard.

Mr. Brookshire was a former member of East Side Baptist Church in Elizabethton and current member of Bethany Baptist Church, Mountain City, TN. He attended Johnson County High School. Having lost his father at the age of 13, he discontinued his education during the 11th grade to help run the farm and care for his mother and sister. He served in the Army/Air Force during WWII, 1943-1945, serving in the Philippines, doing plane maintenance and rescuing air crew men shot down near Philippine Islands. While his primary calling was a farmer, he worked at Glenn L. Martin Company in MD building airplanes. After returning to Tennessee he enrolled in agricultural classes and began his lifetime career in farming. He was primarily a beef cattle and tobacco farmer but also raised dairy cows and produce. In the early 1960s he began selling insurance for Federal Crop Insurance Corporation and retired in 1988 as a supervisor. Farming was not a chore but a passion, one he enjoyed up until his death.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances Frye Brookshire; children: Dottie Brookshire, Johnson City, Sharon Sheppard, Rebecca Brookshire, both of Elizabethton and John (Kathy) Brookshire, Mountain City; Grandchildren: Zachary (Laura) Sheppard, Amanda Sheppard, Great granddaughter, Penelope Sheppard all of Elizabethton; an "adopted" daughter Dr. Julia Decker and children, Kristina (Abel) Cusatti, Renee (Tim) Moore and Kimberly (Brent) McNeal and their children; Son, Gordon (Barbara) Brookshire, Jr., of Bluff City, grandchildren Jack Brookshire, Vancouver, Oregon, Tara Kane Brookshire, Bristol, TN, Sarah Knight, Bluff City, TN. MOUNTAIN CITY — Alex Snyder, age 94, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

He was born on March 12, 1922, to the late Noah and Ollie Martin Snyder. In addition to his parents, Alex was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Nave Snyder, who passed away on January 23, 2012; sisters, Eureka Grindstaff and Susie Kimberlin; and brothers, Martin Snyder, D.L. Snyder, Robert Snyder and Sanford Snyder. Like most men of his generation, Alex was a proud American Farmer but his true love was carpentry work. He was an avid Atlanta Braves and TN Vols fan. Alex loved his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren beyond measure and he always had time for his family. He was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Eureka was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (Shouns community) and served as Sunday school teacher for four-five year olds for more than 20 years. She was a supervisor at the Leco Mfg. Co. for approximately 8 years and was a teacher assistant and substitute teacher for several years.

A receiving of friends will be held 1:30 P.M. – 2:30 P.M. on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 3385 Roan Creek Rd., Mountain City, with the funeral service to follow at 2:30 P.M. ELIZABETHTON - Velva Shoun Nave, age 89, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 27, 2016 from the Hermitage Health Care Center. Velva was a native of Carter County and was a daughter of the late Benjamin Dudley Shoun and Emma Belle Tribble Shoun. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell S. Nave; a son, Darrell Nave, Jr.; six brothers, Andy Shoun, Earl Tribble, Jess Shoun, Carl Shoun, Leroy Shoun, and Bill Shoun; and two sisters, Hazel Elliott and Vada Shoun.

Velva was a devoted wife, loving mother and a homemaker. She was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church and was a member of the Eastern Star, Pythian Sisters and a member of the White Shrines.

Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Janice Showalter, of Johnson City, Janie Breen and husband Thomas, of Johnson City, and Elizabeth Spielberger and husband John, of SC; five grandchildren, Larry G. Maggio, Lynette Hegeman Bunce, Sunshine Nave, Charity Nave and Aaron Weese. Several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Velva Shoun Nave will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 2, 2016 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Estel Williams, officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Friday.

A native of Washington County, he was the son of the late George and Annie Blevins Lowe. Delmer was a U.S. Army veteran, 82 Airborne, and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a Rural Carrier. Bonnie enjoyed cooking, canning, and gardening. She loved being able to keep and Spend time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Little Doe Baptist Church.

Arthur Howard Shoun died Dec. 12 at Mt. Angel Towers Health Center. He was 90.

A service was held Dec. 16 at the Unger Funeral Chapel in Silverton.

Mr. Shoun was born on Aug. 25, 1914, in Elizabethton, Tenn., where he met and married Grace Shankle in 1940. They were together for 58 years until her death in 1998. They moved to John Day in 1947. Mr. Shoun worked as a ranch hand until he went to work for Blue Mountain Sawmill. He was injured in a work related accident and became disabled in 1962.

His favorite pastime was spending time with his family.

Survivors include his two daughters, Gilda Farrell of Silverton and Reainnella Moffat of Molalla; two sons, Dallas Shoun of John Day and Robert Shoun of Florence; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and three sisters.

She was a member of Tri Cities Baptist Church and the Johnson City South Camp Gideons Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Loggins, and her husband Hubert, were owners and operators of West Towne Hardware.

MOUNTAIN CITY — Tommy Keith Garland, age 80, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at the Mountain City Care Center.

He was born on December 26, 1929, to the late Dana Lilford and Nina Easter Davis Garland. In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by an infant sister, Winnie Lee; two additional sisters: Frieda Noens and Cherene Nichols; brothers: D.L. Garland and Del Garland; and a very special military friend, Dale L. Jackson.

Tommy was a retired carpenter and building contractor, was the former Superintendent of the Town of Mountain City Public Works and former operator of Shell Service Station of Mountain City. He was a member of Southside Freewill Baptist Church and a United States Army Veteran.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diane Garland; daughter: Beverly and husband, Carter Baker, of Bristol, VA, and Mandy L. Garland and Dennis Greene, of Butler, TN; sons: Michael K. Garland, of CA, James L. Garland and wife, Debbie, of Abingdon, VA, David L. Garland and wife, Karen, of Johnson City, TN, Andy Garland and Saul B. Gary C. Garland of Tusculum, TN, passed away February 22nd at the age of 73. He was born on January 19, 1948 to the late Dana Lilford and Nina Easter Davis Garland.Gary grew up in Mountain City and was a 1967 graduate of Johnson County High School.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and received the following medals and commendations: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze services stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, and Marksman. In October of 1975, he came to Greene County as a Trooper for the Tennessee Highway Patrol and retired in 2002. Gary was a member of Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an Elder.

Survivors include his wife: Donna Brooks Hayes Garland; three children: Brett Garland, Holly Hayes Ferguson and husband, Kevin, Jesse Hayes and his wife, Amber; six grandchildren: Justin Gosnell, Joseph Gosnell, Grace Hayes, Martin Hayes, Allison Hayes, and Matthew Hayes; sister-in-law: Diane Garland; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece: Sandy Garland; father-in-law: J. JOHNSON CITY - Bonnie Beatrice Shoun Patterson, age 84, of Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Burley Herbert and Mildred Katherine Morley Shoun. Bonnie was a native of Mountain City, TN and moved to Johnson City to attend ETSU where she met the love of her life, James "Jimmy" Patterson. They were married in March of 1953 and were steadfast partners for over 60 years.

Bonnie spent her earlier years raising her three sons and enjoying and supporting them in their many sport activities, rarely missing a game. As her children grew older she utilized her Bachelor's Degree to work as an Administrative Assistant at University High for many years. She was loved by all associated with University High and she stayed in touch with many UH alumni and faculty/staff.

Bonnie was very talented and creative using her skills to sew, knit, crochet, cross stitch, and quilt just to name a few. So many benefited from her skills including her family, church family, and community. Bonnie enjoyed spreading her love by crocheting bonnets and blankets for newborn infants. She was also a wonderful cook, and known for "Miss Bonnie's Tea Room". Bonnie had a love for all, especially children, and treated all as if she were their "adopted" grandmother.

She was an active member of Cherokee United Methodist Church and Cokesbury Church of Johnson City for many years, where her service and dedication were demonstrated in many ways. She served on numerous committees, was an active member of the choir, and coordinated fundraising activities. Her creative talents were evident in decorations she made for church functions, family weddings/births, and others lucky enough to receive them.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, James Lyman Patterson; granddaughter, Lauren Ashley Patterson; brother, Burley Joe Shoun; half-brothers, Jim Valentine and Harold Valentine; half sister, Betty Valentine; several aunts and uncles.

Kenny was a huge sports fan and always cheered for the Tennessee Vols. He loved joking around with people and always had a good time. He was always friendly to everyone he met and had never met a stranger. He was also a great and loving uncle.

Mary Evelyn Sargent, age 94, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, from Signature Health Center and Rehab of Elizabethton. Mary was born in Carter County to the late Arthur Mack Wilson and Lottie Margaret Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Richard Lee (R.L.) Sargent; a daughter, Barbara Lee Wilson; two brothers, Millard Wilson and Lester Wilson; and three sons-in-law, Gary Burrow, Carl D. Hardin and Wilbur C. Banks.
Mary retired from Raytheon Corporation, where she had worked as an inspector. She was a wonderful mother and caregiver and will be very missed by her family and friends. Mary was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Golden Group. Mary loved to read, she loved children, gardening, hummingbirds, flowers- especially red flowers. She also enjoyed riding motorcycles, ATVs, going to the beach, camping, helping people and fighting for the “underdog” and those who could not fend for themselves.
Those left to cherish her many wonderful memories include two daughters, Shirley Ann Banks, of Unicoi, TN and Robert Jean Campbell and her husband Ed, of Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Mary Ann Hughes and husband Chris, of Unicoi, TN and Nicholas Hardin, of Elizabethton; four great-grandchildren, Courtney Vance, Kelsey Hughes, Jaelyn Hardin and Tennyson Hardin; three great-great-grandchildren, Tristan Marotto, Piper Anna Lee Vance and Addison Vance; a goddaughter, Rosalee Oaks and family; two godsons, Larry and Brenda Peters and their family and Jimmy and Barbara Peters and their family; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Rose Vaughn; and a son-in-law, Larry E. Wilson. Several nieces and nephews also survive, as well as a special friends, Natalie Stout and Norman Garland.
A service to celebrate the life of Mary Evelyn Sargent will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Reverend Nick Colbaugh officiating. Music will be under the direction of the New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church Quartet, Reverend Kevin Laws and Joe Sargent. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday.
The committal and entombment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2021, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Reverend Kevin Laws officiating. Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Buckles, Jaelyn Hardin, Nicholas Hardin, Aaron Greer, Wes Greer, Andy Hardin, Billy Grindstaff and Chris Hughes. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Campbell, Bill Lingerfelt, Reverend Charlie Trivette, Jimmy Peters, Larry Peters and Tynneson Hardin.

JONESBOROUGH - Lester H. Wilson, 88, of Jonesborough, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the VA Medical Center.

A native of Carter County he was the son of the late Arthur M. Wilson and Lottie (Lewis) Wilson. Les was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Johnson City where he was a greeter. Les proudly served our country in the United States Navy, later working for American General where he retired after many years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing with his son, Mike, and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Les is preceded in death by an infant son, James McArthur Wilson; brother, Millard Wilson; and special friend and golfing buddy, Charlie Miller.

Those left to cherish Les' memory include: his wife of 67 years, Norma Wilson; children Michael Douglas Wilson of the home and Donna Wilson Polly, and her husband, Michael Polly of Johnson City; his only granddaughter who carries his namesake, Lessa LeeAnne Wilson; sister, Evelyn Sargent; several nieces and nephews, and many special friends.

The family will gather to greet friends from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services. A committal and interment service will follow at the Eden United Methodist Church Cemetery in Jonesborough. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
