Ella N. Ollis Antill, 96, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 23, 2023.

Ella was born on April 30, 1927 to Luther and Margie Cooper Ollis in Frank, NC. She was one of nine children. She graduated from Cranberry High School in Cranberry, NC in 1944.

After working for 34 years at Sancap Abrasives in Alliance, Ohio, she retired. In 1992, Ella moved to Burnsville, NC to be closer to family. Ella's life was a rich heritage of faith, which was passed on to her children and grandchildren. She loved her church family at Shoal Creek Baptist Church in Burnsville, NC. She enjoyed travel, with Niagara Falls being one of her favorite destinations, as well as crocheting, reading, working crossword puzzles and watching professional bull riding.

Her devotion to others was one of her most noteworthy qualities. She served as a church board member at the Church of the Nazarene, Alliance, OH, an advocate for a ward of the state of Ohio, volunteered at Alliance City Hospital in Alliance, OH, volunteered with Hospice of Yancey County, NC for 10 years, cared for a neighbor's child, nurtured three grandsons during stressful family times and supported the long-term care of her sister.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Margie; brothers: Baxter, Ivan, Roy, Lawrence and Verne; sisters: Orpha (Facsko), Norma Pearl (Gale) and Esther (Ward); daughter, Lori Antill (Phillips) and grandson, Benjamin Peter Ollis.

She is survived by her daughters June Ollis Beck (William) and Lisa Antill Thornton (Tony); son, Peter Ollis (Sharon); seven grandchildren and f14 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Ella's life was held at 3 p.m. on Friday, July 28, in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Dick Westbrook, Rev. Merritt Taylor and Rev. Remington Austin. The family received friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial followed in the Whitaker Branch Cemetery. Pallbearers wereDaniel Phillips, Nathan Phillips, Kyle Konapitsky, Jason Riddle, Andrew Ollis and Patrick Purdy.

Marie Nelson, 86, of Newland, North Carolina passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 17, 2023 at her residence.

Marie was born on July 19, 1936 in Avery County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Charles Henson and the late Minnie Ollis Henson.

She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. Her and her son, Mickey, traveled many times together with Christian Tours. Marie enjoyed reading her Bible and she loved the times she could sit and visit with her pastor, Ron Greene.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Henson; mother: Minnie Henson; husband: Jack William Nelson; son: Timothy Nelson; two sisters: Lucy Mode, Bernice McGee; two brothers: Herman Charles Henson, Paul Henson; granddaughter: Mary Elizabeth Nelson; son-in-law: Glenn Hicks.

Marie leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter: Donna (Matthew) McClellan of Linville Falls, NC; three sons: Keith (Tabatha) Nelson of Newland, NC, Stephen (Lisa) Nelson of Jonas Ridge, NC, Mickey Daniels of Newland, NC; daughter-in-law: Janet Nelson of Pineola; grandchildren: Autumn Nelson-Miller, Charli Nelson, Sara Nelson, MKayla Nelson, Zachary Nelson, Kadence Nelson; great grandchildren: Colton Lane Baird; special niece: Ann Woods, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Marie Nelson were held Monday, March 20, 2023 in the Johnson Cemetery with Pastor Ron Greene officiating.

Nathan A. Buchanan Jr., 78, Treasure Lake, DuBois, died Tuesday at the DuBois Nursing Home.
He was born June 24, 1932, in Brasstown, N.C., a son of the late Nathan A. Buchanan Sr. and Lona Hughes Buchanan. He was married to Edith E. Ramsey Buchanan June 11, 1953. She survives.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War.
He retired as an inspector for the Ford Motor Company after 32 years of service.
Survivors include four sons: Steven J. (Kristina) Buchanan of DuBois, Eddie R. (Patricia) Buchanan of Louisville, Ky., Fred A. (Donna) Buchanan of Holland, Ohio, and Larry M. (Jerri) Buchanan of DuBois; two sisters, Christine Stutzman of Old Fort, N.C., and Lucille Grindstaft of San Antonio, Texas, 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, and infant daughter and an infant son.

Kelly Buchanan, age 93, of the Frank Community, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at his home.

A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late Isaac and Nettie English Buchanan. He was also preceded in death by a Daughter: Marsha Kay Buchanan, who passed away in 1964; Grandson: Christopher Buchanan, who passed away in 2009; three Sisters and four Brothers. Kelly was a Member and Deacon at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Elk Park. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved his family.

Surviving is his loving Wife of 64 years: Eunice Brewer Buchanan; Son: Colin Buchanan and wife, Barbara, of Whitaker Branch; Great-grandchildren: Makenna Buchanan and Lexie Buchanan; Sister-in-law: Colleen Buchanan and Niece: Linda Buchanan and husband, Charles, of Elk Park. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 16, in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Allen Laws officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon prior to the services at the church. Burial will follow in the Buchanan-McKinney Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Fred Hoilman, Ted Hoilman, Teddy Ray Hoilman, Bill Grindstaff, Logan Johnson and Landon Johnson.

Mr. Buchanan was a son of the late George W. Buchanan and the late Margie Carver Buchanan.

He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of Zion Baptist Church. Mr. Buchanan was a retired employee with South Carolina Electric and Gas. He will be remembered for his love of music, fishing and baseball which he played in his days as a youth.

He was the husband of the late Nellie Mae Pigate Buchanan and surviving are two sons, George "Buddy" Buchanan of Walterboro and Ronald Buchanan of Walterboro; a daughter, Uldene Roberts St. George; a brother, Clay Buchanan of Louisville, OH; a sister, Georgia Cunningham of Young Harris, GA; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

AVON PARK, FL - Warren G. Ollis, age 97, of Avon Park, FL went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2021. He was born in Roan Mountain, TN to the late Lafayette and Burneice Julian Ollis. Warren served in the Navy and was aboard the U.S.S Nicholson from 1941 to 1946 and later was employed by G.E in Cleveland, Ohio and retired in 1982 after 27 years. After he retired, he spent most of his winters in Florida. Warren was of the Christian faith and a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Linesville, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette Black and second wife, Charlcie Julian; brothers, Ford Ollis, Murell Ollis and Larry (Gene) Ollis, sister, Ella Mae Gibbs; son, Dallas Lane Ollis and step-son, Heirl Julian. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 13 years, Sally Balluff Ollis; son, Russell ( Laurel ) Ollis; sister, Wanda Helms (Wayne);step-children, Lahoma ( Doug ) Rohrer, Lavada ( Wayne ) McClellan, Bruce Balluff, Michael Balluff, Dana ( Brad ) Roae; grandchildren, Bobby Ollis, Janie Ollis, Warren ( Alyssia ) Ollis , Christy Ollis, Kelly Ollis; step-grandchildren, Sonja ( Tim ) Bell, Bart ( Amy ) Rohrer, Antoine ( Becky ) Junn, Charlcie Galasso, Melissa Julian, Rachael Roae, Bradley Roae and Gregory Roae; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, June Ollis and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Warren G. Ollis will be conducted at 12:00P.M. on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Mr. Doug Rohrer officiating. The family will receive friends between the hours of 10:00A.M. and 12:00P.M. prior to the service.

The graveside service and committal will be held following the service on Saturday at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Johnson City with Pastor Donald Julian. Active pallbearers are Russell Ollis, Bruce Balluff, Wayne McClellan, Christopher Ollis, Brian Helms and Neil Gibbs.

Grace Ingram Baird, 79, of Old Amherst Circle, Morganton, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 at her residence after an extended illness.

Born in Avery County on November 24, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Hobert and Eva Taylor Ingram.

Grace and husband Bobby owned and operated the B & G Quick Stop in Burke County and Docs Superette in Caldwell County until retirement. Grace had a big heart, would help anyone in need and was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Valdese. She loved her family fiercely and could always be counted on. She was an avid gardener and loved planting flowers and spending time with family.

Grace is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Baird DeRidder and son Robert Nepaul Baird of Morganton; three sisters, Shirley McGalliard of Hildebran, Merle and Donald Price of Charlotte, Minerva Carpenter of Stony Point; and multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Bobby Baird; son, Shaun Alan Baird; and two sisters, Betty Crowder and Barbara Barlowe.

JOHNSON CITY — George D. McKinney, 85, of Johnson City, passed away on Friday, January 1, 2016, at his home.

George was born in Cranberry, NC. He was a son of the late Frank Paul and Emma Ollis McKinney. George worked as a salesman for Wade Bulla Wholesale Meats.

He was a member of King Springs Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Kathleen S. McKinney; great granddaughter, Hannah Fitzgerald; and several siblings.

Survivors include four children, Maynard McKinney and his wife Linda, Linda Conner and her husband Larry, Deborah McKinney, and Mike McKinney and his wife Andi; seven grandchildren, Heather Fitzgerald and her husband David, Natasha Conner, Joanna McKinney, George McKinney, Michael McKinney, Courtney McKinney, and Gavin Russell; three great grandchildren, David Fitzgerald III, Tanner Thornton, and Elliott Conner; two sisters, Anne Ollis and Wilma Boone; brother, Jimmy Allen McKinney; and several nieces and nephews.

The family of George D. McKinney will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 4, 2016, in the Morris-Baker Oak Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. on Monday under the direction of Rev. Jerry Cornett.

A committal is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, in Monte Vista Memorial Park.

Nora Hoilman Johnson, age 79, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 10, 2017 while at Watauga Medical Center in Boone. Born in Avery County, North Carolina on January 30, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Coyd and Mary Elizabeth Hoilman.

Miss Nora, known as a gentle and tender hearted woman, was a great cook who never met a stranger. She enjoyed working with her flowers when she was able.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Finley Johnson; one daughter, Jamie Burleson; four step children, Rejeanna Trice, Finley Johnson, Jr., Remona Johnson and Kristie Johnson; one sister, Sharon Ward; three brothers, Ted Hoilman, Fred Hoilman and Herman Hoilman; two grandchildren, Paige Duncan Presnell (Gabe) and Brianna Duncan (Skyler); and two great grandchildren, Lexi Ford and Callie Presnell. Mrs. Johnson is also survived by a number of step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson Chapel Church in Newland, where she was a member, with Revs. Jim Shoupe and Bill Shoupe officiating. Interment will follow at Ashley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the church.

Nora married Finley Richard Johnson about 1955. Finley (son of Theodore Roosevelt Johnson and Living) was born on 14 Jun 1934 in , Avery County, North Carolina, ; died on 8 Jun 2019 in Mitchell County, , , North Carolina; was buried in Ashley Cemetery, , Avery County, North Carolina. Carla passed away at age 61, after a courageous battle with Young Onset Alzheimer's Disease. Carla was born in Canton to the late Carl and Virginia (Greene) Datko. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Class of '68 and retired from Stark State College of Technology in late 2008, where she'd served 20 years as a Custodian. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jay Lash Jr.; daughter, Rev. Heather (Steven) Lash-McKay; son, Jason (Barbara) Lash; three grandsons, Kyle, Jacob, and Logan; sisters, Barbara (Terry) Nemeth and Susan (Lenny) Whaley.
Her Service was held at the chapel of Calvary Cemetery on Monday July 30, 2011. Her Daughter, Rev. Heather (Lash) McKay officiated. She will be forever missed.
