Bertha Tipton Boone White, age 97, of Hampton, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully at Hillview Nursing Home on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, where she had been constantly surrounded by her loved ones throughout her illness.
A native of Carter County, she was born and raised in Roan Mountain, and lived there many years after she married Blaine Boone and had her daughter, Helen. She also lived in Chicago and worked at Brach Candy Company in Chicago, Illinois, for a few years. She then lived in Bristol, Tennessee, and then moved to Hampton, where she lived for 38 years with her daughter, Helen. She was the daughter of the late Ezekiel Mack Tipton and Huldia Greene Tipton.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Bart White; former husband, Blaine Boone; two infant siblings; by her sisters, Lucy Birchfield, Lockie Jane "Ted" Brown Richardson and Josie Spoone Coleman; and her brothers, Lon Tipton, Blaine Tipton, Warren Tipton and Roy "Pete" Tipton.
Survivors include her daughter, Helen Boone Fleenor; granddaughters, Teressa Fleenor, Jennifer Fleenor Sizemore and husband, Tony; great grandchildren, Holly Bumgarner and husband, Tony, Nathaniel Martin, Marah Sizemore Wood and husband, Jordan, Evan Sizemore, Elissah Sizemore and Lydiah Sizemore; great-great grandchildren, Adrianna Bumgarner and Chloe Bumgarner. Several nieces and nephews also survive. One brother, Robert Mack Tipton, Cleveland, Ohio, also survives.
A service to honor the life of Bertha Tipton Boone White will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 14, 2015, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. William Lunsford and Tony Sizemore, officiating. Music will be provided by her granddaughter, Jennifer Sizemore.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM-2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Saturday.
The committal and entombment service will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Nathaniel Martin, Evan Sizemore, Gary Tipton, Mitchell Brown, Jerry Tipton and Warren Tipton Jr.

ELIZABETHTON - Bonnie Louise Tipton Montgomery, age 86, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at her residence.

Bonnie was born in Roan Mountain, Tennessee to the late James Blaine Tipton and Julia Ann Miller Tipton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oral Condon Montgomery; two sons, Jack Montgomery and Michael Todd Montgomery; a great grandson, Mason Todd Montgomery; and several siblings.

Bonnie retired from Kennametal, where she worked as a press operator and was of the Baptist faith. Bonnie was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Tami Denise Montgomery Peters and husband John, of Johnson City and Marcia Beth Braswell and husband Rick, of Elizabethton; her grandchildren, Jennifer Laine Braswell, Jason Adam Braswell, Nathaniel Blake Braswell, all of Elizabethton, Kimberlen Haley Bryant and Laurel Michelle Bryant, both of Johnson City, Matthew Todd Montgomery, of Elizabethton, and Rachel Noel Montgomery, of Kingsport; her great grandchildren, Noah Alexander Braswell, Andy Montgomery and Zachary Mahoney; her sister, Genevieve Tipton, of Roan Mountain; two brothers, Ted Tipton, of Hampton and Johnny Tipton, of Roan Mountain; a special brother-in-law, J.E. A service to celebrate the life of Bonnie Louise Tipton Montgomery will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 3, 2018 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Todd Hallman, officiating. Music will be provided by her great grandson, Andy Montgomery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Thursday, or at the residence at other times.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be John Peters, Rick Braswell, Jason Braswell, Blake Braswell, Scott Tipton, Tracy Tipton, Noah Hammons and Alex Brown. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Tipton, Johnny Tipton and Noah Braswell.

ROAN MOUNTAIN - Genevieve Tipton, age 81, of Roan Mountain, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 from the Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Center in Roan Mountain.

Genevieve was born in Roan Mountain to the late James B. and Julia Ann Miller Tipton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, James Tipton, Lincoln Tipton, Charles Tipton, Herb Tipton and Jack Tipton; and two sisters, Frances Goins and Bonnie Montgomery.

Genevieve was a homemaker and was a member of Sugar Hollow Baptist Church. She was always involved with the activities at the nursing home and loved to sing. Genevieve loved her church family, loved attending family reunions and just loved all people!

Those left to cherish her memories include two brothers, Johnny Tipton, of Roan Mountain and Ted Tipton and wife Betty, of Hampton; and two sisters-in-law, Shirley Tipton, of Roan Mountain and Eddie June Tipton, of Baltimore, Maryland. Several nieces and nephews also survive, as well as a special friend, Edie Burkey.

A service to honor the life of Genevieve Tipton will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2019 in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain with Pastor Randy English, officiating. Ruth Stoots, 95, went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, December 24, 2021, with family at her side.
Ruth was a lifelong resident of Washington County and was born to the late Green Berry Ledford and Mattie Hurt Ledford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Stoots, who passed away in 1986; three brothers, Leon, GB, and Roy Lee Ledford; two sisters, Irene Ledford Harrell and Erma Sue Ledford Hicks; son-in-law, Barry Triplett, and daughter-in-law, Tammie Stoots.
Ruth was a very special lady. She received the Lord as her Savior as a young girl and was known for her loving, kind, sweet spirit. She was loved by everyone who knew her. She was a homemaker most of her life and was the best Mama anyone could ever have, loved dearly by her whole family.

She was a faithful member of Marbleton Free Will Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and making quilts, was an avid walker and loved her dogs. In addition to her parents, Pansy is preceded in death by her husband, William B. McNabb, Daughter and son-in-law Joan and Harlan Clark, grandson, Tony Clark, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

UNICOI - Beulah Frances Tipton Bryant, age 93, Unicoi, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus on Wednesday, May 03, 2023. She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi and daughter of the late Ben and Sally Puttman Tipton.

Beulah loved the Lord with all her heart, and she was a lifelong member of Marbleton Freewill Baptist Church. She loved attending church, praying, and reading her Bible. Beulah retired from Thomas Industries. After her retirement, she was a Cook at Maple Grove Restaurant for twenty years.

Beulah enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Bryant; two grandsons: Chad Vance and Luc Vance; two sons-in-law: Keith Booth and Jerry Vance; two brothers and six sisters.

Beulah leaves behind to cherish many special memories, her five children: Wanda Vance, Sharon Gardner (Roger), Teresa Thomas, Connie Booth, and Rick McInturff (Angie), all of Unicoi; two sisters: Hazel Carver and Beatrice Bryant (Harvey), all of Unicoi; six grandchildren: Tara Higgins (Scott), Ryan Cradick (LeAnn), Amy Hensley (Donnie), Brandy Brinkley (Nathan), Justin Booth (Dasha), and Cody McInturff; seventeen great-grandchildren: Hunter, Shian, Maddie, Noah, Kynlee, Dylan, Logan, Colt, Bailey, Haylee, Hayden, Addie, Piper, Ben, Dawson, Landon and Riley; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Ralph “Richard” McKinley Tipton, age 76, of Unicoi, went to be with his loving Savior on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital, after a hard fought battle with Covid-19.

A native of Unicoi County, Mr. Tipton is a son of the late Benjamin “Ben” Tipton and the late Sally (Puttman) Tipton.

Ralph was a lifelong member of Marbleton Free Will Baptist Church where he formally served as a Deacon. He was a wonderful and caring father, grandfather, and was very loved by his family and friends. His 6 grandkids were his pride and joy. He enjoyed going to all the soccer, baseball and basketball games. He was their biggest fan. Ralph owned and operated Division Texaco in Johnson City and later retired from Eastman Chemical Company. He had a passion for restoring and collecting old cars. In addition to his parents, Ralph is preceded in death by his son Ralph “Ralphie” McKinley Tipton Jr.; brother Fred Tipton; sisters: Mildred Tipton, Willie McInturff, Charlotte Tipton, Tempie McInturff, and Hassie Hensley.

JOHNSON CITY - Mr. Gary Tyrus Wheelock, 74, of Johnson City, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023, in Lakebridge Skilled Nursing Center.

Gary was a resident of Johnson City most of his life. He was the son of the late Alfred and Juanita Rosenbaum Wheelock.

After school, Gary was a soldier in the Vietnam war where he received numerous medals. He received Sharpshooter ranking in the Army. After his time in the service was complete, he was a man of many talents doing work in construction, welding, pipefitting, gunsmith and mechanics. Gary built a custom home for his family completely by himself in Bakersville, NC. He retired from Bosch as a Journeyman pipefitter.

Gary’s interests include guns, building, riding his motorcycle, playing the bass guitar, and his church activities. He was a devout Christian and performed many roles in the church: member, deacon, and preacher. He also had a passion for baseball that he got from his father. He built the Buladean, NC community baseball field and coached for several years. He was also one of the builders of Wetlands water park in Jonesborough, TN.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by one brother, Ross Wheelock.

Survivors include his wife of twenty years, Brenda Young Wheelock; two sisters, Coy Blevins and Donna Aston and her husband Gerry, and two brothers, Roscoe Wheelock and Arlin(Merlin) Wheelock and his wife Serena; four daughters, Shawn Kerree Harvey and her husband Vaughn, Tekii Boren and her husband Chris, Anna Campbell and Christena Young; four grandchildren, Tyler Young, Ben Wheelock, Nicole Wheelock and Sarah Boren; several nieces and nephews; Steve Blevins, Scott Blevins, Marty Dowell, Nina Dowell-Williams, Chase Beauregard, Dillion Beauregard, Cheyanne Smith and Arlin Wheelock.

The family of Mr. Gary Tyrus Wheelock will have a military honors funeral service at the Mountain Home National Cemetery, in Johnson City, TN at 1 PM, January 13, 2023. The family will be meeting at the cemetery at 12:50 PM. The Veterans Honor Guard DAV #39 will accord military honors.

ERWIN - Terry Lynn Tipton, Jr., age 43, Erwin, passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 11, 2021. He had lived most of his life in Unicoi County. Terry is the son of Terry Lynn Tipton, Sr. and Debbie Tipton.

Terry was employed by Pepsi Cola Company as a geo driver for the past three years. He had previously worked at CSX Transportation for ten years. He attended Chestoa Baptist Church. Terry enjoyed fishing, drawing, and most of all taking pictures was his biggest hobby. He loved his kids and spending time with them.

Terry was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Irene Tipton Mashburn.

In addition to his parents, Terry Lynn and Debbie Tipton, he leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Kimberly Tipton, three children: Austin, Aaron, and Emily; maternal grandmother, Nellie Williams; mother-in-law, Jeanette Quillen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and April Quillen; his special fur baby, Harper; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, June 18, 2021, in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM with Rev. Roger Hilemon and Pastor Alan Jones officiating. Music will be provided by Darren Higgins, Kevin Laws, and Bobby Ramsey. Pallbearers will be Austin Tipton, Aaron Tipton, Joseph Quillen, Justin Riddle, Travis Peake, and Eric Taylor. Committal service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, June 19, 2021, in the Evergreen Cemetery.
