MRS. CENA STOUT ELLIS
Mrs. Cena Stout Ellis died Friday morning at her home in Keenburg. She was married to James Ellis on July 4, 1897 and became a member of the Borderview Christian Church shortly afterwards.
She is survived by her husband, James Ellis; five daughters, Mrs. G. C. Bullock, Mrs. Ida Hicks, Mrs. Rhonda Moore, Mrs. Vernon Carr, and Mrs. Raymond Perry; three sons, Earl, Will and Joe Ellis, all of Elizabethton. Twenty-five grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren also survive. Three sisters, Mrs. Mollie Combs, Mrs. Nora Minton and Mrs. Sam Moody of Kentucky; five brothers, Nat and Joe Stout of Elizabethton, Henry Stout of Lenoir City, North Carolina, Marsh Stout of Kingsport and Bill of Johnson City.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 o'clock from the Borderview Christian Church with the Rev. R. S. Depew in charge, assisted by the Rev. Dennis Crowe, the Rev. Arthur Isenberg and the Rev. James Purcell.
Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are Russ Love, W. G. Woods, Elmer Younce, Sam Mottern, Tom Ealey and Frank Carter, Harry Colbaugh and Billy Morris.
Flower bearers will be nieces of the deceased. The body will be returned to the home Friday afternoon and will remain until 1 o'clock Sunday when it will be removed to the church to lie in state until time for the services.

ELIZABETHTON - Harry T. Stout, 94, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday February 20, 2022 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born September 18, 1927 in Watauga to the late T.O. & Stavania Hatcher Stout. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. Harry served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He had operated Harry T. Stout Locksmith since 1967. Harry was a member of VFW Post 2166, American Legion, United States---Constabulary, American Motorcyclist Association, Disabled American Veterans. He was a founder and life member of East Tennessee Locksmith Association; He had served on the Carter County Election Commission for several years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Pauline Jordan Stout who passed away August 20, 2009, by two sisters: Muriel Manning and Juanita Glass and a brother: Sam Stout. Harry was a member of Fairview Baptist Church for 80 years.
Survivors include his Children: Pat Stout, Cheryl (Larry) Shell, Thomas (Debbie) Stout and Sam (Melissa Shepard) Stout. His Grandchildren: April (Wes) Pearson, Shaun (Selina) Stout, Whitney (Craig) Odom, Faith Stout and Kyra Click, his great grandchildren: Dustin (Chelsea) Garland, Tori Garland, Maylie Stout, Gage Stout, Mallory Odom, Stephanie Pearson, Landon Pearson and Layla Stout. Several nieces & nephews, also a special friend, Janie Henson.

Marjorie Eleanor Meredith Luc died February 9, 2022, at the age of 101 years. Her parents were John Thomas Meredith and Olevia Croy Holly Meredith of Watauga, TN. Marjorie was born in Elizabethton, TN, and grew up in Michigan and Ridgetown, Ontario. Her father was a minister and missionary in the Christian Church. Prior to moving to The Tower at Cornerstone Christian Village, she resided in New Orleans for 54 years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Calvin William Luc; her parents; sisters Dorothy Edna Meredith, Ridgetown, Ontario, and June Meredith Blackburn, Johnson City; brothers Harold Marvin and Thomas Glenn Meredith of Michigan; brother Edgar Keith Meredith and sister-in-law Bernell, Leesburg, FL. Survivors include one son, Alan Thomas Luc, wife Susan, McNeill, MS; two grandchildren, Misty Dawn Luc Anderson, husband Daniel, New Orleans, and Jesse Alan Luc, wife Amanda; two great grandchildren, Drake Alan and Anna J. Marjorie attended Milligan College and ETSU, graduated from Appalachian Hospital School for Nurses, earned a BSN from Louisiana State University Medical Center School of Nursing, New Orleans, and a Master’s Degree from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine with an emphasis in Public Health Nursing. She completed postgraduate studies at the University of New Orleans.
She served as 1st Lt., U.S. Army Nurse Corps in WW II. She was an American Red Cross nurse. In New Orleans she was an OB/GYN nurse at Ochsner Clinic, an Occupational Nurse at International Harvester, an Instructor in Medical/Surgical Nursing at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, an Assistant
Professor of Nursing in Medical/Surgical and Public Health Nursing at LSU Medical Center School of Nursing. She served as as Associate Director of the Louisiana State Board of Nursing for 17 years and as Interim Executive Director prior to her retirement. Her professional career was devoted to nursing education. She was elected to serve eight terms on the Board of Directors for the National League for Nursing and held offices in many professional and civic organizations. She was a charter member of Epsilon Nu Chapter, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and a member of ETA Chapter, Delta Omega, National Honor Society for Graduate Students in Public Health.
In addition to her commitment to nursing education, she was an active supporter of Veterans Affairs. She was a charter member of the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, a charter member of Women in Military Service for the American Memorial Foundation, Arlington, VA, and a charter member of the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. Her name is on the Veterans’ Wall of Honor in Elizabethton, TN.
She was a charter member of Elysian Fields Church of Christ and Crowder Boulevard Church of Christ in New Orleans. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Mr and Mrs Sunday School Class in Johnson City.
The family of Marjorie Eleanor Meredith Luc will receive friends from 10:30 am to 11:30 am Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. A private inurnment service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park and will be conducted by nephews Jeff and John Blackburn.

Joseph R. "Joe" Treadway, 69, 1712 Sylvan Hill Road, Elizabethton, Tenn., died Friday, July 28, 2000, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, he was the son of A.L. "John" Treadway, Elizabethton, and the late Lillian Meredith Treadway.
Mr. Treadway was a varsity basketball letterman at the University of Tennessee. Upon graduation, he returned to Carter County to begin a very satisfying career as Vocational Agriculture teacher at Hampton High School for 21 years. He continued his education, receiving a master's degree from U.T. in 1970. He was superintendent of Carter County Schools from 1974 until 1979, when he joined the State Department of Education as Adult Basic Education Supervisor for East Tennessee. He was a member of the House of Representatives in the Tennessee Legislature for one session in 1985 and returned to the State Department of Education, where he worked until retiring in 1992. He was an active member and former board member of First Christian Church, Elizabethton.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Patricia Taylor Treadway, of the home; two daughters and one son-in-law: Patti Anne Treadway and Meredith and Tracy Trott, all of Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Laura Meredith Trott, Elizabethton; one grandson, Joseph "Joey" Trott, Elizabethton; and one sister, Peggy Jane Treadway, Elizabethton.

Miss Peggy Jane Treadway, 1118 Powder Branch Road, Elizabethton, died Friday, May 9, 2008, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late A.L. ?John? and Lillian Meredith Treadway. She retired as Chief Medical Laboratory Technologist at the James H. Quillen V.A. Medical Center Hospital and later taught biology at Happy Valley High School.

She received her Bachelor?s Degree from East Tennessee State University and a MLT Degree from St. Mary?s Hospital, Knoxville. Miss Treadway was a member of Oak Grove Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Treadway.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Patricia Treadway, Elizabethton; two nieces, Patti Anne Treadway and Meredith Trott and her husband, Tracy Trott, Elizabethton; a great-niece, Laura Meredith Trott, Fort Worth, TX; and a great-nephew, Joseph Theodore Trott, Elizabethton. Many special cousins and a dear friend, Jennie Ottinger, also survive.

Edith "Betty" Ralph, 76, of Elizabethton, Tenn., a loving wife and sister, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at her residence. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Waitsel and Emma Cox Febuary.
"Betty" was a homemaker and had a very giving and loving heart. She was a member of Slagle Methodist Church. She was very family oriented and enjoyed working with her church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Thomas Lee Ralph, and by six siblings.
Survivors include a brother, John L. Febuary, Hayes, Va.; one son; good friend and longtime companion, Jeff Crowe, Elizabethton; good friend, Sheila Taylor Hartley, Elizabethton; and several nieces and nephews.
A service to honor the life of Edith "Betty" Ralph will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 15, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor James Michael Berry officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. Interment will follow the funeral service on Monday in the George Mottern Cemetery. Mrs. Lois Jean February Harmon, 65, of Dark Ridge Road, Beech Mountain community, died, Dec. 29, 2006 at the Watauga Medical Center.

She was a native of Avery County and a daughter of the Robert Jefferson and Ona Jane Lee February.

Mrs. Harmon was a member of Beech Mountain Missionary Baptist Church, Inc.

She was a CNA trained at Baptist Hospital.

She was an accomplished artist, antique collector and loved quilting. M

rs. Harmon was a lady of high moral character.
She was preceded in death by four infant siblings.

JONESBOROUGH - Albert Thomas Hicks, 87, Jonesborough passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in the James H. Quillen VA. Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charles Garfield & Ida Ellis Hicks. He had lived in Jonesborough for the past 45 years. Albert served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a retired Welder and was a member of Local 538 Plumbers & Fitters Union, Johnson City. He was a member of Cherokee Baptist Church where he previously had served as Trustee and served on the Cemetery Committee. His hobbies were woodworking and farming. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Florence Jennings and Pauline Elliott and a brother: James Hicks.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years: Sue Miller Hicks. One sister & brother-in-law: Bonnie Harold Stout, Elizabethton. Two Brothers: Bobby Jack Hicks, Hampton and Harold Hicks, Elizabethton. Several nieces & nephews, he was like a father to them.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Scott Fisher, Minister and Rev. Dwight Hobbs officiating. Entombment Service will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday, August 27, 2016 in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Ray Don Markland. She was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Wilson; her husband, Coach Harold Stout; her mother, Ida Ellis Hicks; her father, Charles Garfield Hicks; two sisters, Pauline and Florence; and two brothers, James and Albert.
She is survived by her brothers, Harold Hicks of Elizabethton and Bobbie Jack Hicks (Shirley) of Hampton; her sister-in-law, Sue Hicks; her daughters, Donna Hayes of Nashville, Dena Wilson of Elizabethton, and Paulette Davis (John) of Elizabethton; her step-children, Tony Stout (Lisa) of Bluffton, S.C., and Anlyn Hughes (John) of Springfield; her grandchildren, Landon Chambers (Kristen), Ashly Difatta (Antonio), Corey Whitehead (Beth), and Bruce Perry (Brittany); her step-grandchildren, Kendall Stout and Kailee Stout; her great-grandchildren, Dylan Chambers, Jada and Dylan Whitehead and Antonio Difatta. The family extends special thanks to her dear friend, Sharran Davis.
A celebration of life service will be held at Grace Baptist Church, 1114 Broad Street, Elizabethton, Tenn., on Saturday, May 19, at 3 p.m. The family will receive visitation at the home, 300 Allen Avenue, Elizabethton, Tenn., anytime. Harold Dean Hicks, 83, Elizabethton, died peacefully and entered heaven to join his beloved friends and family who preceded him in death, on Monday, December 5, 2022, at Holston Valley Hospital, Kingsport.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Charles Garfield and Ida Belle Ellis Hicks.
Harold was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and a retired employee of Dixie Battery. He was a member of Borderview Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Elliott, Florence Jennings and Bonnie Stout, and two brothers, James Hicks and Albert Hicks.
Harold was the family historian, genealogist, and comedian. He had a memory that was razor sharp. Friends and family enjoyed his many tales of growing up in Tin Can Hollow in Elizabethton. He welcomed all who visited his cozy home with a “look who is coming there, get in this house.” He enjoyed reminiscing with his visitors and filling in the gaps of their fading memories.
He is one of a generation who remained true to his roots and valued his history and his family and friends.
Survivors include a brother, Bob Hicks and companion, Carolyn Dail, Knoxville. He was a beloved uncle to several nieces and nephews; was surrogate father to many.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Scott Fisher, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by the Borderview Christian Church. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family, the Harmony Baptist Church Family and his many many friends. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Emmert Cemetery.

Betty (Moore) Pritchard, 89, of Elizabethton, Tenn., was welcomed home into the arms of her Savior on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Betty was born in Elizabethton to the late Rondy and Callie (Ellis) Moore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Landon Pritchard; her brother, RJ Moore; and grandmother, Bettie Moore. Betty loved people, entertaining at family gatherings and most of all the Lord and her family. She was a people person that was born with the gift of hospitality and was very generous and loving. Betty was also a hard worker and had milked cows on her family farm – Moore’s Dairy – for more than 25 years and drove a tractor-trailer for more than 20 years. She was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church in Stoney Creek and served as the organist there for many years, sang in the church choir and was part of a trio years ago. Most of all Betty loved her family and cooking for them, making cakes, hosting parties, playing Bingo and playing with her cats. Those left to cherish and remember Betty include her daughters, Nancy (Barry) Taylor, Karen (David) Calloway and Tracy (Alan) Shepard; her grandchildren, Jack (Jodi) Buckles, Misty (Aaron) Lloyd, Jamie (Jared) Garfield, Alan (Tristyl) Shepard Jr. and Rhonda (Andy) Blevins; her great-grandchildren, Madisyn (Josiah), Brayden, Jackson, Carson, Alexis, Camden, Karlee, Bryson, Thomas, Kristen, Mason and Spenser; and a very special friend, Sue Bowers. Several other extended family members that will miss Betty also survive. A celebration of Betty’s life will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 8, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Dr. Dennis Deese officiating. A eulogy will be given by Betty’s great-granddaughter, Madisyn Cannon. Special music will be provided by Sue Bowers and Patty Hodge. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, April 10, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Lenny Smith officiating. Wayne Edward Stout, age 70, passed away on Saturday August 17, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Ed was of the Church of Christ faith and attended East Unaka COC in Johnson City as a child. He graduated East Tennessee State University and received a Bachelor's degree in 1973. He had an extensive career in sales and service in several industries. He especially enjoyed buying and selling real estate, but his true passion was in cars. He spent 35 wonderful years with his wife and best friend. Together they enjoyed skiing, being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with loved ones. Even with all the trials that come along with being ill, Ed continued to put his family and friends first. A deep thinker, and true jack of all trades, he loved helping people (and animals) solve whatever problems came their way.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Carriger William (Shag) Stout and mother, Martha Eleanor Hendrix Stout. He is survived by his wife, Janis Hornbeck Stout; children, Angela Stout Harris, Aaron Edward Stout, and Bryan Edward Paylor (Megan); grandchildren, Nelson, Shelby and Lacey Harris; brother, Ronald W. Stout, Sr (Janet); brother-in-law, Gary Hornbeck (Jeanne); nieces and nephews, Joie Bonds (Lincoln), Ronald Stout Jr., and Andee Stout Garrison (Sean), Julia Chavez (Frank), Christa Tackett (AJ), Nicholas Hornbeck (Brooke); several grand-nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends.

ELIZABETHTON - Kay M. Edens, 76, of Elizabethton, TN passed away on July 12 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Edens was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Elbert and Blanche Hyder Meredith and Lucille Meredith who graciously stepped in to help raise Kay after her mother died. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Harold D. Edens and a brother and sister-in-law Willie G. and Patsy Meredith.

Mrs. Edens is survived by a son, Mark Edens (Anna), a daughter, Beth Tester (Larry), and the greatest joy of her life- her granddaughter, Eden Tester. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Jean White and Nancy Alsup, a special niece, Carolyn Dawson, and a special nephew who called weekly, John Meredith. She also leaves behind special friends Gilda Reed, Judy Scalf, Pam Slayton, and Georgia Jaynes.

Mrs. Edens was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Christian Church and the Maggie Kyte Ladies’ Circle.

Kay was a 1964 graduate of Happy Valley High School and a 1966 graduate of Steed College. She retired from the VA Medical Center as a Medical Record Technician.

Kay was also a homemaker who enjoyed traveling, camping, cooking, shopping, canning, and freezing. She also enjoyed college football and basketball; especially the TN Vols teams. She also enjoyed being outdoors, nature, and the beauty of God’s creation.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Burleson, Jeff Chambers, Billy Jaynes, Chris Hughes, Luther McKeehan, Larry Tester.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kirk Hayes, Teddy Reed, Brad Jaynes, Phil Coleman, Tommy Little, Jeff Holt, John Meredith, Terry Meredith, David Meredith, Dylan Garrett, Bryce Garrett, David Slonaker, the men of Oak Grove Christian Church, and the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home for their loving care and also to the staff of Amedysis Hospice.

ELIZABETHTON - Patti Anne Treadway, of Elizabethton, passed away at the age of 69, on July 8, 2022, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home in Elizabethton, TN. A native of Elizabethton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Randolph "Joe" and Patricia Taylor "Pat" Treadway. Patti earned her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 1975 with a major in Interior Design and her Master of Arts degree in Teaching from East Tennessee State University in 1980.

Patti devoted her life to nurturing and educating children and encouraging others. She taught

Kindergarten and Head Start at Happy Valley Elementary for 35 years. She loved her students and worked tirelessly to provide each child with an environment that was both educational and inspirational, allowing them to grow academically, express themselves artistically, and experience moments of unbridled joy. Her mantra was to allow each child to have their best day, every day.

Those who surrounded Patti knew her kindness, warmth, rich expertise, and collaborative spirit. Her focus was always outward as she lifted and included all others around her. Her legacy will live on through the lives of those she taught, mentored, loved, and inspired.

Patti was known for her creativity and artistic talent. She loved to create and teach scrapbooking, and she made beautiful scrapbooks for her family and friends. She also assisted her family and friends with numerous home interior and design projects. She had an uncanny ability to see color and better utilize space in any room or design project. She was a lifelong reader, loved to discuss plot components, and wrote beautiful short stories.

Patti was the prepared member of her family. Her Christmas presents were perfectly wrapped, and her trunk included enough raingear and snacks to get her family through any situation in Neyland stadium because she knew they never remembered to bring anything. To be loved by Patti was to be paid attention to in detail. She was the best storyteller in the family. A second mother to her niece and nephew, and a beloved sister. She will be missed beyond measure.

She was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton, where she had taught Sunday School and served as a youth sponsor.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Meredith Trott, and husband Tracy, of Elizabethton; niece, Laura Trott and husband Jason Yoo, of Atlanta, Georgia; nephew, Joey Trott of Knoxville; beloved aunts and uncles, Kathy and Wayne Riley of Baldwin, Georgia, and Dottie and Jim Riley of Woodstock, Georgia; special friend, Leonard Febuary; best friends, June and Roger Shepherd all of Elizabethton; numerous cherished cousins and friends; and Jasper her devoted Bichon Havanese.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the caregivers and staff at Ivy Hall Nursing Home and Amedisys for the loving care that was given to Patti.

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Patti Anne Treadway will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Monday, July 18, 2022, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Michael Klaus and Mr. Jeff Campbell, ministers, presiding. ELIZABETHTON - William (David) Bartz, 68, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, October 8, 2021 at the residence of his sister: Deborah in Stephenson, Michigan after a lengthy illness. Dave was born March 21, 1953 in Elizabethton. He worked as a truck driver and factory worker before joining the National Guard where he obtained his GED. He obtained the rank of E-4 and served in Operation Dessert Shield and Dessert Storm. He enjoyed going to the Casino, Bowling and spending time with the family on the boat. He was preceded in death by his parents, William (Bill) and June February Bartz, his wife of 23 years: Billie Christine Smith Bartz, his brother: Charles Hyatt, sisters: Gail Campbell and Carol Staples as well as niece Lori Adams and nephews Stacy Adams and Steve Hyatt.
He is survived by his son: Charles Daniel Bartz, Step-Daughter: Regina (Brad) Shepherd, Grandsons: Danny Bartz, Josh Bartz, Conner Bartz and Luke Shepherd, Brother: Bobby Joe (Glenda) Hyatt and Sister: Deborah (David) Carlson. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles Roscoe Hyatt, 59, 601 Maple Street, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Hyatt was a native of Carter County and a son of Mrs. June February Hyatt Bartz, Elizabethton, and the late Roscoe Hyatt. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Hyatt, April 30, 1995, and his grandparents, W.S. and Emma February.
Mr. Hyatt was a 1961 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He had lived in the State of Washington from 1962 until he retired in 1995 and returned to Elizabethton. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and a member of the Operating Engineers Local 302, Seattle, Wash. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, having served in the United States Army.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a son and daughter-in-law, Bradley Charles and Melissa Hyatt, Elizabethton; three sisters, Linda Gail Adams, Johnson City, Debbie Carlson Stevenson of Michigan, and Carol Cox, Norfolk, Va.; a brother, Bob Hyatt, Elizabethton; a half brother, David Bartz, Elizabethton; and three grandchildren, Mark Miner, Steven Lapp and Brittany Hyatt.

Linda Gail Campbell, 72, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was the daughter of the late June Febuary Bartz and was born in Elizabethton. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a son, Stacey Adams; a daughter, Lorie Rosenbaum; a brother, Charles Hyatt; and a sister, Carol Staples.
Ms. Campbell was a loving mother who loved to fish, sew and quilt. She was of the Baptist faith.
Those left to cherish her memory include three children, Angie Poole, Elizabethton, Teresa Roberts, Johnson City, and Greg Adams, of Ohio; two special grandchildren, Denny Poole and Brittany Poole, both of Elizabethton; three other grandchildren, Terrie Rokicka of North Carolina, Daniel Roberts, Johnson City, and Kelly Roberts, Elizabethton; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Bartz, Elizabethton, and Bob Hyatt, Elizabethton; and a sister, Debbie Carlson of Michigan. Scotty Gwyn, 71, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Watauga Medical Center in Boone, N.C.
He was born on January 15, 1947 in Avery County, N.C., a son of the late Joseph Elbert Gwyn and the late Georgia Fox Gwyn.
Scotty was a member of Curtis Creek Freewill Baptist Church and had proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed working with orchids, watching golf, and listening and dancing to country music.
He will always be remembered for his service station in Elk Park, Scotty's. Many a friend will remember passing by and seeing Scotty and some of his buddies sitting on the front talking and catching up. When a child would go into the store, he was known to give them a piece of candy.
Scotty leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Vickie Young Gwyn of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; son, Casey (Virginia) Gwyn of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; daughters, Tricia (Michael) Thompson of Roan Mountain, Tenn., and Ramona (Gary) Warren of Lewisville, N.C.; sister, Virgie (Gary) Guinn of Elk Park, N.C.; and grandchildren, Macie (Blake) Dugger of Butler, Tenn., Thomas Brown, Hunter Warren, John Dula, Caden Gwyn, Colton Gwyn and Carter Gwyn. Scotty also leaves behind a host of many friends.
Services for Scotty Gwyn will be held Monday, May 28, beginning at 6 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. The family will receive friends beginning at 4 p.m. Monday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Family, friends and pallbearers will meet at the Scotty Gwyn Family Cemetery in Roan Mountain at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday for interment.
