    Rhoda Collins Dies, leaving 159 Direct Descendants
    Mrs. Rhoda Catherine Collins, 87, died at her home on Route 1 Thursday at 12:15 a.m. after a five weeks illness. She was a member of the Siam Baptist Church. Her husband, Jackson C. Collins preceded her in death in 1928.
    She is survived by two sons, J. K. Collins and G. C. Collins, both of Route 1, Elizabethton; four daughters, Mrs. Callie McKernan, and Mrs. S. B Randolph, both of Route 1, Elizabethton, Mrs. Kate Dougherty and Mrs. Lue Masters both of Erwin; 45 grandchildren and 98 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Miss Nancy Heaton or Route 1, Elizabethton.
    Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Siam Baptist Church with the Rev. Willis B. Allen officiating, assisted by the Rev. Johnnie Riddle and the Rev. R. C. Stockton. Burial will be in the Bowers Cemetery on Route 2.
    Active pallbearers will be the great grandchildren, Donald, Floyd, Richard and Willard Collins, Harold Harvey, Ted Edwards, Charles Lipford and Bill Carpenter.
    The great granddaughters will serve as flower bearers.
    The body will be removed to the home today at 3:30 p.m. from the chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home where it will remain until 1:00 p.m. Sunday when it will taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.

    ERWIN - Lorena Wilson, age 94, of Erwin, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Christian Care Center of Unicoi County. A native of Erwin, Lorena is a daughter of the late Alexander and Rebecca Lou (Collins) Masters. She was a charter member of Chestoa Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and loved to help with activities. She loved cooking, especially making sweets, working in her flowers and having her family all together, particularly at Christmas time. Lorena loved quoting John 14:1-4. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph W. Wilson; grandson: Tyler Wilson; daughter, Lana Carol Foster; son-in-law, Calvin Douglas Foster; and daughter-in-law, Theresa Wilson.

    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel B. & Viola Collins Randolph.
    She was a 1942 graduate of Elizabethton High School.
    Mrs. Hardin was a homemaker who loved to cook and loved to hike. In the early seventies she and her son walked from Shady Valley to Watauga Lake on top of Iron Mountain. She was a member of Siam Baptist Church.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Hardin and two brothers: Vaughan & Jack Randolph.
    Survivors include Two Daughters: Rosemary Trent and husband Curtiss, Maryville, Tenn. and Martha Talbert and husband John, Bristol, Va. One Son: Bobby Hardin and wife Yolanda, Elizabethton. Five Grandchildren: Robbie Talbert & Wife Leah, Charlottesville, Virginia, Dr. Joey Talbert and wife Megan, Ames, Iowa, Jamie Talbert and wife Kesha, Greensboro, NC, Michael Trent & Wife Ashley, Maryville, Tn. and Bethany Spelce and wife Alex, Knoxville.     ELIZABETHTON - Jane Randolph Bennett, age 89, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

    Jane was born in Elizabethton to the late S.B. and Viola Collins Randolph. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dayton Grant Bennett; two brothers, Jack Randolph and Vaughn Randolph; and one sister, Kathryn Hardin.

    Jane retired as an aide for the Carter County School System and was a member of Siam Baptist Church. She loved to work in the garden, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jane also enjoyed her time at church and was very active in the church.

    Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter, Judy Hyder and husband Joe, of Elizabethton; two sons, David Bennett and wife Kathy, of Elizabethton and Dale Bennett and wife Sharon, of Johnson City; five grandchildren, Jill Lewis and husband Brett, Robin LaPorte and husband Drew, Ashton Bennett, Kelsey Bennett and Abby Bennett; four great grandchildren, Taylor Bowers, Callie Lewis, Myles Lewis and Cooper LaPorte; and one brother, Jerome Randolph and wife Betty, of Orlando, FL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to honor the life of Jane Randolph Bennett will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 15, 2019 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Jack Roddy, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Bill Anderson. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Sunday.

    The committal and entombment will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Monday, September 16, 2019 in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park.     A native of Carter County she was the daughter of the late Sprugeon and Bessie Pierce Collins. Ms. Collins worked at Harrison Shoe Store for many years. She was a member of Nidiffer Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Dewey Collins; and one sister, Geraldine Collins.

    Survivors include three sisters and brothers-in-law, Margie and Clyde Lewis, Wilma and Ronnie Nave and Margaret Ann and Luther Deloach; One brother and sister-in-law, Billy Jack and Glenda Collins. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2005, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joey Manis and Rev. Roger Mathes officiating.     He was the son of the late Maynard and Carmie Collins and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Collins.

    Mr. Collins was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army. He was a former employee of Bemberg, North American Rayon Corporation and was retired from American Water Heater. He was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church. Mr. Collins enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved baseball.

    He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jackie Collins and his wife, Tami, Bobby L. Collins and his wife, Connie; two granddaughters, Jacquelyn Collins, Macy Collins; two great-granddaughters, Logan Collins, Katlyn Becht; a great-grandson, Tyler Dugger; five grandsons, Davey Collins, Dustin Collins and his wife, Lindsey, Brandon Collins, Bryant Collins and Bud Hicks; five sisters, Betty Edwards and her husband, Andy, Novella Heaton, Lola Bowers, Burnie Pierce, all of Elizabethton, Myrtle (Tootsie) Gilliam and her husband, Ken, Harriman, TN; three brothers, Arthur Collins, Luther Collins, Bobby D.     Lola was born on March 8, 1935 to the late Maynard and Carma Collins. She spent most of her career working at Citizen's Bank where she met and became friends with many in the community. She was a devoted member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church and loved her church family very much. Lola was married to the late John F. Bowers. They spent their lives together making wonderful memories by traveling the country, camping and taking care of each other.

    Many that knew Lola affectionately called her "Dodo". She was a caring and fun loving sister, aunt and friend. Dodo wanted those around her to love Jesus Christ, be happy and live life to the fullest.

    Lola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Burna Pierce, Myrtle Gilliam and Novella Heaton; and her brothers, Earl Collins, Arthur Collins and Willard Collins.

    She is survived by her sister, Betty Edwards; two brothers, Bob Collins and Luther Collins; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sue and Lloyd Lowe and brother-in-law, Ken Gilliam.

    A service to celebrate the life of Lola Bowers will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 28, 2019 in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Reverend Doug Hinshaw, officiating.     Novella retired as an aide from Unaka Elementary School. She was a spunky military wife and a wonderful Christian mother and grandmother. She was a member of Nidiffer Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where she sang in the quartet. Novella enjoyed sewing and making quilts and spending time with her family. She was known for treating people well and with respect.

    Myrtle is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ken Gilliam; her daughters, Melissa (David) Lane and Jennifer (Jamie) Raymer; and six grandchildren, Dawson and Kailey Lane, Colby, Corey, Mackenzie and Brodie Raymer. Surviving also are her brothers, Bob and Luther Collins, and sisters, Betty (Andy) Edwards, Lola Bowers and Novella Heaton, all of Elizabethton, Tenn. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Marjorie (Jim) Blalock and Carolyn (Jeff) Hamilton, and brother-in-law, Ron (Sue) Gilliam, all of Gate City, Va. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
    Myrtle lived primarily in Elizabethton until 1984 when she relocated to Roane County with her family. Her first job was working for the FBI in Washington, DC. Later she went to work for Great Lakes Research in Elizabethton where she met Ken, the love of her life. While in Roane County she worked for Linda Raby, CPA and finished her career with Daniels, Uselton and Clay, CPA in Kingston. She retired in 2011.
    Myrtle was a member of Young's Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Kingston. The family expresses appreciation for the support of Pastor Rev. Dale Watson and the members of Young's Chapel. The family also gives thanks to Helen Lane for the many hours she sat with Myrtle during her illness and for caring love given by her dear friend, June Wilson. The family also appreciates the support from neighbors and friends for all they have done.
    Finally, the family wishes to acknowledge the nurses and staff with Covenant Hospice for the compassionate care they provided during the last difficult days. Also, the family is appreciative for the care and help furnished by friend and family physician, Dr. Rodney McMillin.

    He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Martha Omega Joines Collins, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Dr. James L.     He was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church and a former Deacon and Treasurer. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Collins.

    ELIZABETHTON - Maxwell “Mack” Collins, age 85, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 18, 2021 unexpectedly of Covid Pneumonia at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mack was born in Elizabethton to the late Eston “Red” Collins and Maxie Carrier Collins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry Collins, Gary Collins and Donald Collins; one sister, Thelma Collins Taylor; and his father and mother-in-law, Clate and Maggie Oliver.

    Mack retired as a brick mason and was a member of Blue Springs Christian Church. In his earlier years he enjoyed playing baseball and softball. Mack also loved to garden and can, and loved to give vegetables to his family and friends. He also enjoyed hanging out at “The Barn” with the barn gang.

    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 59 years, June Oliver Collins, of the home; his daughter, April Collins of Telford, TN; two precious sisters, Lyndal Lowe and Phyllis Davis, both of Elizabethton and two “adopted daughters”, Gayle White and Sarah White, both of Telford, TN. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive, as well as “the barn gang”.

    Lyndal Yvonne Collins Lowe, age 82, 110 Robinson Lane, entered into the presence of God on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was a faithful member of Watauga Valley Freewill Baptist Church her entire life and was blessed to serve as choir director for many years. Her love of music was her gift. She served in many capacities at the church from VBS to Golden Group. She enjoyed singing and leading the choir and was even known to twist a few arms to get the choir filled. She enjoyed canning and caring for her flowers and rose bushes. She loved her family with all her heart and it showed: from Christmas sing-alongs, to birthday parties for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, to organizing showers and directing weddings for family members. She was ever present in the lives of her family and friends and her passing will leave an unfillable void. Lyndal worked at Levi Strauss & Co. for 18 years as a supervisor. She began working for Southeastern Apparel Finishing in 1990 as a quality manager. In 1994 she was honored by Levi Strauss & Co. with the highest award they offer. She was presented the 1994 Daniel E. Koshland award for outstanding contributions to the Levi Strauss & Company “Personal Pair” program.

    Lyndal was born on April 3,1940 to Eston & Maxie Carrier Collins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 47 years, Charles Lowe, brothers Donald Collins, Gary Collins, Jerry Collins, Mack Collins and sister Thelma Collins Taylor, special cousins, Shelby Williams and Joy Dean Babb. Survivors include her loving daughters Donna (Wayne) Davis, Knoxville and Dawn Lowe, Elizabethton, beautiful granddaughters, Hollie (Scott) Arnold and Brooke Meza, Knoxville, grandson-in-law Wilber Meza, Knoxville. Precious great grandchildren Bailey Lauren Arnold, Davis Cole Arnold, Breyden Alexander Meza and Levi Charles Meza, Knoxville, sister Phyllis Davis, special cousin, Diana Blevins, and very special friend, Donald Campbell. Several nieces and nephews who were dear to her heart also survive.

    A service to celebrate the life of Lyndal Lowe will be held at Watauga Valley Freewill Baptist Church on Sunday, September 11th with visitation from 5:00-7:00 and service at 7:00 pm. Son-in-law, Pastor Wayne Davis, along with Rev. Bill Greer and Pastor Rodney Deyton officiating. Ted Puckett will be in charge of the music accompanied by the church choir. Family and friends will meet on Monday, September 12th at 10:45 for an interment service at 11:00 am at Happy Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Watauga Valley Freewill Baptist Church.

    He served in the United States Navy during World War II and also the Korean Conflict.
    Prior to his retirement he worked at North American Rayon Corporation and construction at Tennessee Eastman. For a period of time he taught Welding with the Adult Vocational Program at Science Hill High School.
    He attended Siam Baptist Church.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Emogene Hayes Edwards, December 24, 2005 and a brother: Ted Edwards.
    Gene was an avid Vol fan.
    Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Cindy & David Jenkins and Lisa & Gary Jenkins all of Elizabethton. Five grandchildren: Nathan Jenkins, Lance Jenkins and wife Carrie, Joseph Jenkins, Logan Jenkins and Jessica White and husband Brad. Five great-grandchildren.     Mr. Charles E. Lipford, 86, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2014 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.
    He was the son of the late Jesse and Gladys Collins Lipford and was born in Carter County.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-one years, Nora Grace Heaton Lipford on November 8, 2008; and a sister, Jo Lipford Smith.
    Mr. Lipford was a graduate of Hampton High School, served in the United States Air Force as a radar technician during the Korean War, and graduated from East Tennessee State Teachers College. He taught algebra at Elizabethton High School and retired in 1987 after thirty years of service and was the first teacher in the Elizabethton City School System to be inducted into the Imagination Library Teacher's Hall of Fame.
    He was a member of Siam Baptist Church where he served the church as a trustee. Mr. Lipford was an avid fan of both football and basketball at Elizabethton High School and attended most every home game. His hobbies included woodworking, reading and photography and he loved spending time in these activities. He also loved to keep in touch with his friends and former students using social media.
    He is survived by a sister, Jessie Montgomery and her husband, Carroll, Elizabethton; two brothers, Gary "Butch" Lipford and his wife, Nancy, Elizabethton; Jimmy Lipford, Elizabethton; his nieces and nephews, Janie McKinney, David Smith, Pat Yelton, Pam Campbell, Becky Raulston, Chipper Montgomery, Gary A. Lipford, Mike Lipford, Chris Lipford, Jaime Lipford, Betty Lipscomb; a sister-in-law, Lucille Heaton and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bud was born in Carter County on September 5, 1939 to the late Jack Durant Collins, Sr. and Hazel Stout Collins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Grace Stout.

    Bud had worked as a millwright and was a member of Borderview Christian Church of Elizabethton. He enjoyed working on and racing cars. Bud also enjoyed hunting and taking care of his horse, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.

    Bud is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Lena Bell Collins, of the home; three children, Karen Bowers and husband Jackie, Judy Thomason and husband Eddie, and Buddy Collins and wife Tina; his grandchildren, Heather and husband Bobby, Emily and husband Garett, Jason, Kortney and Chris, and Will Thomason; two great grandchildren, Zoey Townsend and Lexi Vanover; one sister, Glenda Street and husband Daniel; one brother, Donnie Collins and wife Patricia; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Collins worked as a supervisor in the cutting department of East TN Undergarment for thirty-six years. He attended Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church and he was a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association. Richard enjoyed a life time of riding and training "trick" horses. He also looked forward to spending time with the many horse owners and friends who stopped by the barn everyday.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Eric Collins. Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Nadine Collins, of the home; a brother, Gerald Wayne "Pete" Collins and his wife Millie, Elizabethton; his children and their spouses, Gary and Gail Collins, Johnson City, Larry and Trish Collins, Asheville, NC, Patricia and Larry Powell, Kim Sams and special friend Dave Sandora, David Collins and fiancé Shari and Dwight and Aylitta Collins, all of Elizabethton; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    Funeral service for Mr. Richard Jack Collins will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 18, 2013 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Larry Collins and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Eulogy will be given by David Collins. Music will be under the direction of Clarence Sheffield and Joey Hilbert. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday prior to the funeral service or at the residence at any time.
    Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Ronnie Edwards officiating. Active pallbearers will be Don Merritt, Larry Powell, Dave Sandora, Freddie Julian, John Wayne Collins, Jonathan Collins and Roy Ball. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Merritt, Steve Markland, Keith Carr, Keith Ingram, Eston and Nell Treadway, Jerry and Ann Carr, Jerry and Irene Reed, Paul Sellers, John and Noreen Allen, Ricky and Rita Darnell, Randy and Nancy, Kayo and Betty Gentry, Carl Roberson, Clarence Sheffield, Charles Morton, Dr. Robert and Beth Grindstaff and the many horse owners and friends that he loved to "loafer" with. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 A.M. on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.

    ERWIN - Nina Dale Masters Crain, age 72, Erwin, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 31, 2021, while she was surrounded by her family. She was a lifelong resident of Erwin and daughter of the late Loyd and Myrtle Johnson Masters.
    Nina was the Office Manager for her family business, Ends Electrical. She was of the Baptist Faith. Nina enjoyed cross stitch, puzzles, cooking and spending time with her family.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Danny and Tim Masters.
    She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband of fifty-four years, Eddie Crain; her two sons: Dwayne Crain, Crossville, TN and Scott Crain (Marsha), Erwin; five grandchildren: Jensen Foster, Alli Crain, Britten Crain, Katie Balaicius and Caleb Crain; great granddaughter, Taetum Foster.
    Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Reverend Craig Shelton will officiate.

    RUSSELLVILLE - Lou Ellen Clark, age 71, of Russellville, Tennessee formerly of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at her residence. Lou Ellen was born July 4, 1950 in Elizabethton to the late Edward Clarence Strickland and Frances Collins Strickland. In addition to her parents, Lou Ellen was also preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Ray Hardin.
    Lou Ellen found love and married Earl Ray Hardin and she was a loving caregiver to Earl Ray. When Earl Ray passed away in August of 1990, Lou Ellen found love again with Larry Dale Clark and they were married on February 15, 1992.
    Lou Ellen graduated from Hampton High School and was a member of Centenary UMC of Morristown. She served as Vice President of Security Federal Savings Bank until her retirement. Lou Ellen served many positions at the churches she attended including Sunday School Teacher, Finance/ Treasurer and United Methodist Woman.

    Mr. Ricky Dean Collins, 57, of Johnson City, formerly of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at his residence.
    He was the son of Darlene Stout Collins, of Johnson City, and the late Gary Kyle Collins. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Lillie Stout; and his paternal grandparents, Eston and Maxine Collins.
    Mr. Collins was a graduate of Unaka High School and attended Walters State Community College, where he played baseball. He started a career in law enforcement with the Carter County Sheriff's Department. He continued to work in law enforcement with the Elizabethton Police Dept., the ETSU Campus Police and the Johnson City Police Department, where he retired following thirty plus years of service. During his time at JCPD he worked with the Drug Task Force and the SWAT Team. After he retired, he returned to JCPD and was currently working as a training consultant.
    He was also a former member of the Carter County Rescue Squad. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, A.Q.H.A, A.P.H.A, N.R.H.A. and the Liaison for the Tennessee Reining Horse Association.
    In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of thirty years, Vicki Lee Collins, of the home; a sister, Kay Collins, Johnson City; a niece Seidena Malone and her husband, Josh, Johnson City; two great-nephews, Collin Nidiffer and Kayson Malone, both of Johnson City; a great-niece, Everly Malone, Johnson City; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Helen Lee.
    The service to honor the life of Mr. Collins will be conducted on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. James Richardson and Chaplain Edward Jefferies officiating. Honor Guard will be provided by the Johnson City Police Department.
    The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 4:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the service and at the home of his mother at other times.
    Private disposition will be held at a later time. Honorary pallbearers will be his Brothers and Sisters of the Johnson City Police Dept., Kim Birchfield, Randy Berry, Phil Caddell, Billy Patton and Buzz Martin.
