Mrs. Woodby was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Woodby, and two sons,
Estell Woodby and Gordon Woodby.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Dennis Smith of
Hampton; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Ernest and Virginia Woodby, of
Elizabethton; Ross and Susan Woodby of Hampton; Romily and Claudette Woodby of
Hampton, and Paul Woodby, of Elizabethton; one sister, Mae Woodby of Hampton;
13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and
best friend, Avenell Arnett, of Hampton also survive.
The funeral service for Bertha Tolley Woodby, will be conducted at 8 p.m.
Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church with Rev.
B. F. McKinney, Rev. Jonas Revis, and Rev. Mike Mills officiating. Music will
be under the direction of the church choir. The family will receive friends
from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service at the church or friends may
call at the residence at any time. The graveside service and burial will be
conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at the Woodby Family Cemetery.

1999, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mr. Tolley was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Dempsey and
Lodema Tolley.
Mr. Tolley was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. He
entered the service January 1942, took training at the Jackson Air Base,
Jackson, Miss., and served in the European Theater. He was a recipient of Seven
Bronze Stars, The Good Conduct Medal and The Good Conduct Ribbon. He received
the European Theater Ribbon. While in service he attended the St. James Church
in Florence, Italy and other churches in Italy. He was a Disabled American
Veteran.
He was a member of the Fairview Free Will Baptist Church but attended the
Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where he received a 14-year perfect
attendance in Sunday School.
Survivors include his wife, Kate Stevens Tolley; four daughters, Brenda
Simerly and Barbara Moffett, both of Hampton, Helen Blevins and Janice Stout,
both of Elizabethton; two sisters, Mae Woodby, Unicoi, and Bertha Woodby,
Hampton; a brother, Joshua Tolley, Elizabethton; 12 grandchildren, Denise Norris,
Lisa White, Angelia Smith, Scott Simerly, April Townsend, Kim Simerly, Kristi
Simerly, Randy Woodby, Kevin Woodby, Tawana Holland, LaDanna Boone and Bobby
Stout Jr.; seven great-grandchildren, Katie Jo Norris, Andrea Smith, Alexis
Townsend, Morgan Guy, Taylor Julian, Tyler Woodby and Emrie Boone; also
special friends, Tonya Buchanan, George Stanley and Gwyn Cole. Several nieces and

JOHN CARVER IS GIVEN 10 YEARS IN TOLLEY DEATH
John Carver, white-haired 68-year-old Buffalo mountain resident, was sentenced to ten years in the state penitentiary after having been found guilty of second degree murder by a circuit court jury which deliberated two hours before returning its verdict late Friday afternoon.
Carver was charged with the fatal shooting of Clyde Tolley early last summer in the front yard of the Carver home. Tolley died shortly after being hit in the stomach with a shotgun charge filed by Carver, who admitted, was "too drunk to remember anything about it."
Carver and his 26-year-old daughter, Betty, testified that the three had been drinking prior to the time of the shooting. Tolley was a visitor at the Carver home, having spent the previous night there. The defendant's daughter declared that Tolley and her father had been "good friends," and that the shooting was the result of an accident.
She stated that her father had slipped on the porch of their home and that the gun, which he had brought out "to shoot rabbits with" had gone off accidentally as Carver sought to keep his balance. Betty was with Tolley in the yard when he was struck.

Clarence Tolley, 78, 112 Clarence Tolley Lane, Scioto Community, Unicoi,
died Sunday, March 17, 2002, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Tolley was a native of Carter County and had lived in Unicoi County for
the past 60 years. He was a son of the late Dock and Jane Moore Tolley and was
also preceded in death by two brothers, John Tolley and Jim Tolley, and
three sisters, Manda Carver, Mary Bowers and Nancy Brummett.
Mr. Tolley was a member of the CCC's and was a U.S. Army veteran, having
served in World War II. He retired from the U.S. Forestry Service. He attended
Unicoi Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Irene J. Robinette Tolley, Unicoi; a son and
daughter-in-law, Jerry D. and Teresa Tolley, Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters
and a son-in-law, Anne and Hobart Roberts and Deborah Brummitt, all of
Unicoi; a sister, Eula Boling, Lake Placid, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Douglas
W. Roberts, Eric A. Brummitt, Justin D. Brummitt, Rachel C. Tolley and

ELIZABETHTON - Ikie M. Tolley. 95, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at the Signature Health Care. He was born September 5, 1924 in Hampton to the late Brownlow & Dovie Stevens Tolley. He was retired from North American Rayon Corporation and was a farmer. Ikie was a member of Blue Springs Christian Church. In earlier years he loved to hunt and fish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Ruby Ilene Morrell Tolley and his siblings; Jesse Tolley, Frank Tolley, Effie May, Cordie James, Jobe Tolley, Goldie Tolley, Hardie Tolley, Hartie Tolley and Lester Tolley.

Robert Lee Tolley, 83, 104 Robert Tolley Road, Unicoi, died Sunday,
October 13, 2002 at his residence. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the
late Eli and Minnie Byrd Tolley. He had lived in Unicoi County for the past
40 years. He was retired due to disability from the U.S. Army. He was a member
and deacon of Fairview Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Tolley was preceded in
death by two wives, Bertie Grindstaff Tolley and Irene Matheson Tolley, and
five brothers.
Survivors include six daughters, Patricia Miller, Elizabethton; Gail Storey,
Katherine Lewis, Dorothy Chambers and Linda Sliger, all of Unicoi, and Joyce
Arnett, Roan Mountain; two sons, Charlie Tolley and Roy Tolley, both of
Unicoi; two sisters, Nellie Tolley, Johnson City and Lurlie Bailey, Erwin; three

HAMPTON - Ray Tolley, 97, Hampton passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019 in the Hermitage Health Center after a lengthy illness.

He was born May 25, 1921 in Hampton to the late Eli & Minnie Byrd Tolley. He was retired from the Carter County Highway Department. Ray loved to work in his garden and sit on the porch and chew his tobacco. He was of the Free Will Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty six years Josephine Bise Tolley, two sisters: Lurla Bailey and Nellie Tolley and seven brothers: Lloyd, Lewis, George, Lawrence, Roy, Robert & Blake Tolley.

The body of Pfc. Roy Tolley, who was killed in France on August 11, 1944, will arrive in Johnson City Friday on Sourthern Train No. 46 and will be taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Tolley, Route 1, Hampton, Friday afternoon.
Tolley was 20 at the time of his death. He served in the infantry after his entry into the service on March 16, 1943 and went overseas in May, 1944.
Before entering the army he was a farmer in the Fairview community of Carter County and belonged to the Fairview Baptist Church. Tolley attended school at Fairview School.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. John Buchanan in charge. Burial will be in the church cemetery with full military honors rendered by the American Legion post and the VFW of Elizabethton.
Survivors include his parents; eight brothers, Lloyd, Lawrence, George, Lewis, Blake and Donald of Hampton and Robert and Ray of Bluff City; two sisters, Mrs. Lurla Bailey and Miss Nellie Tolley of Route 1, Hampton.

UNICOI - Blake Daniel Tolley, 90, of Unicoi passed away Thursday February 15, 2018 in Lakebridge Health Care of Johnson City.

He was a native of Carter County and was a son of the late Eli Joseph Tolley and Minnie Byrd Tolley. Mr. Tolley was a long time member of the Fairview Freewill Baptist Church in Hampton. He retired from North American Rayon after 48 years. Mr. Tolley was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country during World War II and later spent many years in the Army National Guard. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elsie Guinn Tolley in 2015; a son, Raymond Tolley; two sisters, Nellie Tolley and Lurla Bailey; six brothers, Roy, Lloyd, Lawrence, George, Lewis and Robert Tolley; two grandsons, Raymond B. Tolley Jr. and Tommy Joe Tolley; a granddaughter, Stacy Yarber; a great-grandson, T.J. Yarber.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Tolley and his wife, Goldie of Johnson City; two daughters, Margaret Gregg and husband, Dallas of Unicoi and Phyllis Tolley of Unicoi; a special friend, Tom Landingham of Unicoi; two brothers, Ray Tolley of Hampton and Donald Tolley and wife, Anna of Johnson City; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; many nieces and nephews.

Etta Moore Hamm, age 88, formerly of 111 Allen Dr., Jonesborough, TN, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, June 22, 2004 in Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Unicoi County, TN, and was a daughter of the late Jake and Mary Tolley Davis. She was a member of Westerly Heights Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Walter A. Moore Sr.; a son Walter A. Moore Jr.; two brothers; and one sister. Survivors include her husband, Fields H. Hamm, of Life Care Center of Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde and Eva Moore, of Hampton, William and Edith Moore, of Unicoi; two brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Helen Davis, of Greeneville, Ray and Eva Davis, of Johnson City; and one sister, Rachel Jackson, of York PA. Ten grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews also survive. WESTLAKE, Ohio – Mr. Ray Davis, age 88, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at the Fairview Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.

Mr. Davis was born on October 29, 1921, to the late Jake and Mary Tolley Davis. He was a Unicoi County native, where he had lived until he joined the Navy in 1940. Mr. Davis married Eva Letta McInturff in 1945.

His military service spanned from 1940 to 1962, when he retired as a Master Chief Petty Officer E-9. During his time with the Navy, he lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, Annapolis, Maryland, Norfolk and Arlington, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

After his military retirement, Mr. Davis worked as a Logistics Management Specialist for the Department of the Navy and Naval Sea Systems Command as a federal employee in the Washington, D.C., area. Upon completing thirty-eight years with the government, which included his military and civilian service, he retired as a GS-14 Logistics Specialist and moved back to Johnson City, Tennessee, in 1979.

Ray and Eva were members of the Unicoi United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. He also attended Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church.

In 2009, Mr. Davis moved to a retirement center in Westlake, Ohio, to be closer to his family

In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Letta McInturff Davis, on August 24, 2004; infant daughters, Cathy Lea Davis and Carol Lynne Davis; step-mother, Maude Ramsey Davis; two brothers, Jess Ernest Davis and Clyde J. Davis; three sisters, Etta Davis Moore, Hazel Davis Browder and Rachel Davis Jackson.

Survivors include his three daughters, Linda Jean Nutter and husband, Franklin, McLean, Virginia, Peggy Ann Reeves and husband, Joel, Springfield, Virginia, Pennie Marie Gray and husband, Gerald, Westlake, Ohio; Five loving grandchildren, Alycia Nutter Kiley and husband, James, Aaron Nutter, Shannon Reeves, Daniel Gray and Allison Gray; His brother, Reverend George Davis and wife, Helen; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

Rev. George Clinton (G.C.) Davis, age 86, passed away Sunday morning, May 22, 2011, at Takoma Hospital.

He touched many lives throughout all East Tennessee, ministering over 63 years, to young and old, rich and poor. He never met a stranger. Pastoring people was his life, and he loved telling people about Jesus. He pastored several churches in Tennessee, Nebraska, and Louisiana.

He is survived by his faithful loving wife of 65 years, Helen Arrowood Davis; son and daughter-in-law David and Glenda Davis of Knoxville; daughter and son-in-law Rev. Rick and Susan Bradbury of Morristown; grandsons and wives, Daniel and Kristen Davis of Telford, Paul and Whitney Bradbury of Knoxville, and John and Shannon Bradbury of Rutledge; great-grandchildren Zeke, Caleb, Noah, Asaph, Joel, Corrie, and Phillip.

He was the son of the late Jake and Mary Tolley Davis. He was also preceded in death by great-grandson Patrick Bradbury; brothers Ray, Clyde, and Ernest; and sisters Etta Moore, Rachel Jackson, and Hazel Browder.

He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of West Side Church of God.

The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The body will be taken to Russellville Church of God Thursday, where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. preceding the home going celebration at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Tracy Colley, Rev. Gene Pendland, and Tony Winkler will officiate.

Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. Friday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. It is requested that family and friends meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m. for the committal service.

JOHNSON CITY - Samuel Martin Tolley, 86, Johnson City passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was a native of Johnson City where he lived most of his life but had lived in Erwin and Jonesborough also. Sam was a son of the late William Birt Tolley and Sudie Mae Carroll Tolley.
He was a well known and respected painting contractor for over 30 years in the Tri-Cities area. Sam was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Samuel; a daughter, Diana Tolley; two brothers, Bill and Jerry Tolley; a sister, Betty Hall; and the mother of his children, Louise Copas Tolley.

Faye Tolley was the daughter of James Tolley & Mary Elizabeth "Posie" Whitehead. She was born in Carter County, Tennessee on 13 Jan 1929.

She married Claude Hilton on 12 Oct 1944 in Elizabehton, Tennessee. Together, they had 5 children: Alice, Jerry, James, Lloyd "Dale", & Kathleen.

She married William O'Shaughnessy on 1 July 1967.

She was the owner/operator of the Forget Me Not home in Canton, Ohio for many years. With the help of her residents, she was the nurse, aide, cook, & housekeeper.

At the age of 84, Faye passed away on 20 May 2013 in Canton, Ohio of leukemia.

Mack Mitchell Tolley, 66, 6551 Highway 19E, Roan Mountain, died Tuesday,
May 22, 2001, at Johnson City Medical Center.
Mr. Tolley was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Jim and Posie
Guinn Tolley. He was also preceded in death by two sisters and three
brothers.
Mr. Tolley was a retired employee of Republic Steel, Canton, Ohio. He was a
Free Will Baptist and attended the Valley Forge House of Prayer.
Survivors include his wife, Callie Johnson Tolley; two daughters, Judy Byrd,
Johnson City, and Molly Lingerfelt, Hampton; three sons, Terry L. Tolley and
Leslie Keith Tolley, both of Elizabethton, and Mitchell Tolley, Hampton;
three sisters, Irene Davis, Jonesborough, Ethel Coffey, East Canton, Ohio, and
Fay O'Shaughnesse, Canton, Ohio; and four brothers, McKinley Tolley, North
Industry, Ohio, Earl Tolley, Louisville, Ohio, Dillard Tolley, East Canton,
Ohio, and Cecil Tolley, Hampton. Eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Cecil Tolley, 75, a life-long resident of the Fairview Community in Hampton, entered into eternal rest with our Lord on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness and complications from a massive heart attack.
Cecil, who was of the Freewill Baptist Faith, attended Fairview Freewill Baptist Church as a child. He was the last surviving son of 13 children of the late Jim and Posie Whitehead Tolley. A student at Fairview School and a Hampton Bulldog, Cecil left school in his teenage years to care for his ailing mother.
A life-long farmer, Cecil served many years at Johnson City's Magnavox Plant and retired due to visual disability from the Unicoi County Gas Utility District. He cherished listening to the county police scanner, telling jokes, spending time with his family while eating Long John Silver's fish or Kentucky Fried Chicken and loving his wife of 54 years, Georgia Blevins Tolley.
Cecil, affectionately known as "Pops," "Papaw," Pap," and "Old Man," was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Victoria Faith McQueen; his brothers, infant Lonnie, Ronnie, Carl, Mack, Ken, Dillard and Earl Tolley; and his sisters, infants Catherine and Christine Tolley, Faye (Bill) O'Shaughnessy, Ethel (Oscar) Coffey and Irene (Lloyd) Davis.
In addition to his wife, Cecil is survived by their children, Betty and Jobe Tolley, Hampton, Kitty Tolley, Hampton, Cecil Wayne Tolley, Hampton, Shelby and David McQueen and Annie and Danny McQueen. Others include his grandchildren, Danielle and Abigail Bates, Jobe Tolley, Courtney Tolley, Alexandria, Katarina and Izabella McQueen, as well as his great-grandchildren, Lucas Bates, Nathan Peters, Elana and Joshua Furches; a special cousin, Mabel Tolley; a special nephew, Norman Coffey; and many other nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, July 30, at 12 noon at the Tolley-Cornett Cemetery in the Fairview Community with Rev. Shane Whittemore and Rev. Henry Berry officiating with Cecil's favorite songs of "Great Speckled Bird," "Me and God" and "I'll Fly Away" being played. Active pallbearers will be Billy Brown, Junior Blevins, Bobby Furches, Nathan Peters and his sons-in-law, Jobe Tolley, Danny and David McQueen. Honorary pallbearers will be Mabel Tolley, Norman Coffey, Landon Lingerfelt, Robert "Bob" Potter and the current and previous staff of the Unicoi County Gas Utility District. FLAG POND - Lennie H. "Shorty" Bales, age 89, 545 Gentry Mountain Road, Flag Pond, passed away on Sund ay, April 30, 2017 in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Roby Hardin and Nancy Tolley Brummett. Mrs. Bales was a homemaker. She was of the protestant faith. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Bales in 1987; four brothers: Ernest Hardin, Robert Hardin, Bill Brummett and Wayne Brummett; one sister, Virgie McLaughlin.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, three brothers: Paul Brummett, Cleveland, OH, Ted Brummett and wife, Jean, Akron, OH, Raymond Brummett and wife, Clara, Unicoi; two sisters: Helen Alford, Johnson City, June Powers and husband, Page, Unicoi; sister-in-law, Wanda Brummett, Unicoi; lots of nieces, nephews and cousins that loved her dearly; friends and caregivers, Dean and Shannon Cooper and family.

JOHNSON CITY - Helen Brummett Alford, 86, Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord and join her husband Billy Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Alford was a Unicoi County native, but had lived most of her life in Johnson City.

She was a daughter of the late Sam and Nancy Tolley Brummett.

Mrs. Alford worked in the textile industry, first with Leon-Ferenbach and later retiring from Bemberg. Following retirement she worked as a cashier at The Meat Shop.

Mrs. Alford was a member of Southwestern Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Alford in 2012, four brothers, Ernest and Robert Hardin, Bill and Wayne Brummett, two sisters, Virgie McLaughlin and Lena Bales.

Mrs. Alford is survived by her daughter, Nancy "Lannie" Alford Watts and husband Keith, Telford; her grandson, Justin Levi Watts, Johnson City; three brothers, Paul Brummett, Cleveland, OH, Ted Brummett and wife Jean, Akron, OH, Raymond Brummett and wife Clara, Unicoi; one sister, June Powers and husband Page, Unicoi; a sister-in-law, Wanda Brummett, Unicoi; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Mr. Brumitt was a son of the late Samuel and Nancy Tolley Brumitt and was a life long resident of Unicoi County Tennessee.

He was employed with Unicoi County Gas Utility District before retiring in 1997 due to ill health, after 20 years of service.

Mr. Brumitt was preceded in death by; two brothers, Robert Hardin and Ernest Hardin; and two sisters. Vergie McLaughlin and Virginia Wren.

Donald "Don" Lewis Brummett Sr., 86, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at his home in Bowling Green.

He was born on November 9, 1931 in Unicoi, Tennessee. Don moved to Hardee County on Christmas day in 1956. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Don was a member of the Masons and a proud U.S. Army Ranger who proudly served his country in the Korean War.

He is preceded in death by his parents Hasco and Mary Brummett, Step- mother Eula Brummett, brothers Lester Brummett and Kyle Farrell, sisters Roxie Jones and Carolyn Williams.

Don is survived by his wife Sylvia Brummett of Bowling Green, son Donald Lewis Brummett Jr. and his wife Cindy of Okeechobee, daughter Donna Mueller and her husband Joe of Gainesville, bothers; Gerald Brummett, Alan Brummett, Joe Farrell, sisters; Gail Farrell and Patricia Thornhill. TELFORD - Joe Ferrell, 77, Telford departed from his earthly life on Saturday, June 3, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Joe was born in Johnson City to the late George and Mary Tolley Ferrell. He was a graduate of Happy Valley High School where he played basketball. Joe was also a Little League Coach for 20 years. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where he frequently drove the church bus and assisted in the nursery. Joe’s career began at Allied Metals at age 17 and worked there until his retirement. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Robert & Bertie Grindstaff Tolley. He had lived most of his life in Unicoi. He was a graduate of Unicoi County High School. Charles was a machinist, farmer and Christmas Tree Grower. He was a member of Fairview Free Will Baptist Church and an avid sportsman.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years: Charlotte Carver Tolley. His Children: Angela Stonecypher and her husband David, and Christopher Charles Tolley all of Unicoi. One very special grandson: Logan Eli Tolley. Six Sisters: Patricia Miller & husband Conley, Eliz. He was a Carter County native and lived in North Carolina for twenty-five years before moving to Unicoi in 1964. Mr. Tolley retired from PTI Transportation where he was employed as a truck driver. He was a member of Marbleton Free Will Baptist Church.
Mr. Tolley was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Guinn Tolley in 2014 and his son, Raymond Blake Tolley, Jr. in 1980.

Darrell Fred Moody, 64, Johnson City passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021 at his residence.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City and was a son of Mary Ellen Moody of Jonesborough and the late Fred T. Moody. Darrell was a self-employed painter. He attended Dry Creek Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a son Brandon Hartsook.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Ellen Tolley Moody of Jonesborough; his children, Dustin Britt of Johnson City, Tammy Sue Peters, of Jonesborough, Heather Carver and husband, Daniel of Jonesborough and Teddy Hartsook and wife, Melissa of Kingsport; two brothers, Gary Moody and wife, Vickie and Andrew Moody all of Johnson City; a sister, Vicky Lee Moody of Johnson City; eight grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Darrell will be conducted at 1:30 PM Thursday, November 11, 2021 in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City with Pastor Bob Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until the service hour. Graveside services will follow in the Washington County Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends.

JOHNSON CITY - Diana Lynn Tolley Fagans, 55, of Johnson City passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017. She was a lifetime native of Johnson City and was a daughter of Samuel Tolley of Johnson City and the late Louise Copas Tolley. Diana attended McKinley Memorial Bible Church. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter. In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Tolley Jr…

Survivors in addition to her father include her son, Chris Pickering of Johnson City; four sisters, Delaine Sanders of Erwin, Debbie Grindstaff, Stephanie Tolley and Sandra Kinley all of Johnson City; her granddaughter, Macayla Pickering of Dayton, TN; also several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Diana will be conducted at 2:30 PM Wednesday, July 5, 2017 in the McKinley Memorial Bible Church with Pastor Lenny Smith officiating. The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM then go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from the family and friends.

Carl Tolley Jr., 68, Hampton, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Carl Tolley Sr. and Daisy Bentley Tolley.
Carl was a retired truck driver with Birchfield Construction. He loved boating on Watauga Lake and loved collecting guns. He was a member of Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Buckles.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Penny Shell Tolley; one daughter, Carla (Travis) Fleenor; five grandchildren, Christa Presnell, Andrea (Greg) Lee, Kaleb Church, Brent Buckles and Todd Hughes Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Evan Wyatt, Gavin Lee and Liam Presnell; three sisters, Juanita Clark, Margaret Jenkins and Shirley “Susie” Tolley; one brother, Richard Tolley; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Harold Presnell.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 17, in the Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Shane Waters officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be Travis Fleenor, Todd Hughes, Brent Buckles, Chester Greene, Greg Lee and Sandy Shell.

Molly Lou Lingerfelt, 56, of Hampton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 2, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center.
She was born November 2, 1961 in Akron, Ohio to Callie Johnson Tolley and the late Mack M. Tolley. She had lived most of her life in Carter County.
Molly attended Hampton High School. She was of the Baptist Faith. She loved her horses, loved to travel and loved to crochet.
Survivors include her son, Landon D. Lingerfelt, Hampton; her mother, Callie Tolley, Hampton; three brothers, Mitchell, Terry and Keith Tolley; her sister, Judy Byrd; several nieces and nephews; and the father of her son, Landon L. Lingerfelt.
A Celebration of Life Service for Molly Lou Lingerfelt will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, at College Park Free Will Baptist Church, Milligan, with the Rev. Ronnie Reece officiating.

Eric Lynn Tolley, 41, of Holden, Mass., passed peacefully on to Heaven on Friday, November 25, 2022, after an extended illness.
Eric was born on May 20, 1981. He graduated from Hampton High School and was a member of Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church. In past years, he resided in Holden, Mass., and worked as a Regional Manager for Crothall Healthcare at UMass Memorial Medical Center. He held a B.S. in Bio Medical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, and was most proud to be a Vol and especially loved attending or watching UT football games. He was also an avid sports fan, supporting and enjoying all the New England teams. He much loved and was loved by his dogs, Jules and Lady.
He was formerly married to Sue Ganas-Tolley of Holden, Mass. Eric also had a great love for fishing and enjoyed this sport with Sue’s father, Chris. His family in Holden included Chris and Mary Lou Ganas, brother-in-law, Matt Ganas (Shawn), nephew, Javi, and many other special friends.
He was a much loved colleague by so many at Crothall Healthcare, and especially by his manager, Terri Crofts, and co-worker, Kim Bogan.
Survivors in Tennessee are his parents, Curtis Steve Tolley and Norma Jean Tolley; brother, Steven Lynn Tolley (Angie); and nephews, Harrison (Troix) and Hayden.
A service to honor Eric’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 1, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Johnson and the Rev. Gary Whitehead officiating and is open to anyone who may wish to attend. Music will be provided by Angie Tolley. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. He will be buried following the service at the Brownlow-Tolley Cemetery in the Fairview community of Carter County.
