    Maude Rachel Miller Mitchell, 97, of Elk Park, North Carolina (the Beech Mountain Community) passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021 at the Charles A. Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, N.C.

    She was born on April 15, 1924 in Avery County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late McKinley Miller and the late Nina Cook Miller.

    Maude was well known for the time she spent running Will’s Grocery with her husband. The store was a staple in the Beech Mountain Community for many years. It was a place where everyone was welcome and no one left empty handed. She loved spending time with her family, working in her garden and all her beautiful flowers. Maude was a devoted Christian and was saved on Aug. 24, 2014, and baptized on Oct. 12, 2014. She loved Fall Creek Baptist Church and her many friends there.


    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William (Will) Mitchell; and a brother, Paul Miller of Elk Mills, Tenn.

    Maude leaves behind to cherish her memory two daughters, Barbara (James) Isaacs of North Wilkesboro, NC, Lois (Marshall) Estep of Elk Park, NC; son, Tommy (Chris) Mitchell of Clemmons, NC; sister, Mary Gray of Beech Mountain, NC; and brother, Mack (Shirley) Miller of Hampton, TN. She was also blessed with five granddaughters, 13 great grandchildren and 26 great great grandchildren.

    Services for Maude Rachel Mitchell were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021, at the Fall Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Jones and the Rev. Kevin Arrowood officiating. The family received friends beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday at Fall Creek Baptist Church.

    Interment will be in the Fall Creek Baptist Church.

    Maude married William Lewis Mitchell on 12 Apr 1941 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. William (son of George Cleveland Mitchell and Mary Ann Love) was born on 29 Jun 1918 in , Avery County, North Carolina, ; died on 28 May 1997 in , Avery County, North Carolina, ; was buried in Fall Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, , Avery County, North Carolina.     Mack John Miller, 95, of Hampton, Tenn., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 29, 2022. Mack was born in Linville, N.C., to the late McKinley Miller and Nina Cook Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Marjorie Lee Greene Miller; his beloved son, Guan Glenn Miller; a brother, Paul Miller; and a sister, Maude Miller Mitchell.
    Mack faithfully attended Trinity Free Will Baptist. He loved the Lord, his family and attending church. He was a kind, humble man who loved to laugh, feed wildlife and to dance.
    Mack was a hard worker and worked many years as a millwright and welder before going to work for Avery County School System from where he retired. His life and legacy will forever be cherished.
    Mack is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Shirley Glover Miller; her children, their spouses and grandchildren; his daughter, Gwendolyn Miller Cole and husband William; four grandchildren, Ian Miller, Derek Miller, Andrew Cole and Amber Cole Cook and husband Justin Cook; three great-grandchildren, Keely Miller, Anna Cook and Tucker Cole; a sister, Mary Gray; a stepson, David Dugger; a special niece, Lois Estep; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    The service to honor Mack Miller will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Tetrick Funeral Home with Pastor Reed Bagby officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Flat Springs Cemetery with Pastor Richard Jones officiating. Active pallbearers will be Ian Miller, Derek Miller, Andrew Cole, Justin Cook, Joel Guinn and Mark Guinn. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Gray and Billy Miller. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Avalon Hospice of Bristol for their loving care.
