SHADY VALLEY - Settie Main Garland, 91, of Shady Valley, TN passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 in the Hermitage Health Care, Elizabethton, TN.

She was a lifelong resident of Shady Valley, TN and was a daughter of the late Matt and Hazel Main. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Garland; a special companion, Tom Jenkins; six brothers, Charlie, Hubert, Walter, Jake, Bob, and Maynard Main; two sisters, Blanche Mahala and Elnore Garland; and two nieces.

Settie enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family. She was a member of Crandull Church of Christ in Shady Valley, TN.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Fenner and her husband, Richard, of Elizabethton, TN; a granddaughter, Jennifer Godsey and her fiance, Michael Reesman, of Butler, TN; a brother, Jack Main and his wife, Mary, of Shady Valley, TN; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Judy Watson, Pat Main, Eula Sluder and all the beauty shop gang.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:45 pm Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Crandull Church of Christ in Shady Valley, TN. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 pm Sunday at the church with Mr. John Maltais, minister officiating. The committal service and interment will follow at Billy Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Earl Jenkins, Paul Morrison, Glenn Miller, John Hurley, Don O'Bryan, Bill Roberts, and McGetty Greer. Honorary Pallbearers will be Leonard Lewis, John Grindstaff, Stan Shoun, and Carroll Jenkins. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the entire staff at Hermitage Health Care for all the wonderful care they gave to Settie.

Buried:
Peggy Main, age 81, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born on September 9, 1940 to the late Delbert and Mary Ann Lewis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Main, and brothers, Deck Lewis, Raymond Lewis, and Lark Lewis.

Peggy loved the Lord and enjoyed reading her bible. She worked at the glove plant, Merita Bread Store and Harris Teeter for many years. Peggy also enjoyed crocheting.

Those left to cherish her memories include her son, Dale Long; daughter, Debora McNew; sisters, Carnie Duffield and Mary Ann Price; grandchildren, Amanda, Mary, Daniel, and Thomas; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service and burial for Peggy will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday February 21, 2022 from the Phillippi Cemetery with Steven Spencer officiating.

Jack Randal Main, age 78, of Shady Valley, Tennessee, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. He was born on November 8, 1938 to the late Matt Main and Hazel Main. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brothers: Charley, Hubert, Jake, Walter, Bob, Maynard Main; sisters: Blanch Mahala, Elenore Garland and Settie Garland; nieces: Betty and Melissa.

Jack loved to joke with people and pull harmless pranks. He enjoyed being outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting for ginseng and playing horseshoes. Jack loved spending time with his family and friends especially his grandson, Dalton who he went fishing a lot with.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of 49 years, Mary Main; children: Angela Main Brown and husband George and Chad Main; grandson, Dalton Evan Brown; his precious cats, Daisy and Tum; special friends: Odas Watson, Wayne Shephard and Gary Dunn and several nieces and nephews.

It was Jack's wish to be cremated and that no formal service is held. Family and friends will meet for lunch to celebrate Jack's life at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Harmon Chapel Christian Church.

SHADY VALLEY - Mary E. Main, age 76, of Shady Valley, TN passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at the Bristol Hospice House. She was born July 17, 1946 to the late Dana Main and Ada Watson Main. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Main; nieces, Joanne Main and Gay Hensley; brothers, Gene Minton, Jimmy Hodson, and Delmar Main; sisters, Velma Blevins, Ruth Wallace, and Dorothy Wallace.

Mary was a very loving and caring person who was devoted to her family. She retired from Levi Strauss and was a member of Harmon Christian Church. Her sense of humor was a joy to her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Angela Brown (George); son, Chad Main; a special and beloved grandson, Dalton Brown, who was the light of her life; lifelong friends, Brenda Wallace and Judy Watson; and many special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Mountain City Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Randle Johnson officiating. Honorary pallbearers are George Brown, Ralph Blevins, Charles Wallace, and Ricky Wallace.

SHADY VALLEY - Odas Watson, age 78, of Shady Valley, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at his residence.

He was born April 15, 1941 to the late Elbert John (E.J.) and Bonnie Main Watson. Odas was a United States Navy Veteran. He was a member of the Crandull Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Nell Pope and Katherine Blevins; five brothers: Herman Watson, C.J. Phillips, Marshal Phillips, Ed Phillips and John Watson. Odas was formerly employed with Sperry Corporation, Raytheon Corporation and Dana Corporation.

Survivors include: his wife, Annette Reece Watson, of the home; sons: Mike and Kent (Judy); daughters: Bonnie (Arthur), Kelly (Michael); granddaughters: Jaylen, Danielle, Sasha, Chloe, and Kaylee; a grandson, Brandon and a sister, Annie.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 3 pm at the Crandull Church of Christ, Shady Valley, Tennessee, with Tracy Dugger officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 pm until 3 pm, prior to the service. Graveside service accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard and interment will follow in the Blevins Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Michael Shepherd, Wayne Shepherd, Chris Watson, McGhetty Greer, Clifford Watson, Rex Bullins, Jim Mobray, and Benji Watson. Honorary Pallbearers are: Buddy Reece, Tony Buck, Bob Tyree, and Van Neely.

ELIZABETHTON - Pastor Harold Mains 82, of Elizabethton TN., went to be with the Lord after a long fight with prostate cancer on Monday, February 8, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Glen Mains and Virginia Perkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Younce, Grandmother Callie Mains, brother Henry Mains, and Ron Perkins.

Reverend Mains was a pastor for sixty years. He was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and Northeastern Bible College in Essex Falls, New jersey where he served as Dean of Men and Athletic Director. Pastor Mains served as a missionary to the Children’s Bible Mission before pastoring several churches in NC., SC., TN., which included, Faulks Baptist, Cooley Springs Baptist, Lee Park Baptist, Centerville Baptist, Fairview Baptist, Big Springs Baptist, Philadelphia, and Crosspointe Fellowship.

Those left to cherish his memories include his wife of sixty years, Anita Gandin Mains; one son, Michael Mains, and wife Lisa; two granddaughters, Kelsey Allred, and husband Kyle, Molly Vickery and husband Chase, and soon to be great granddaughter, Kallie Elizabeth Allred; one sister, Barbara Bunton, several nieces and nephews.

Pastor Mains served twenty years as the President of the Elizabethton Twins. Through the years he served as chaplain for numerous teams including, the Elizabethton Twins, Science Hill basketball team, Providence Academy baseball team, several teams at Elizabethton and Chesnee High Schools. He also served as Chaplain for the Elizabethton Police Department and Lifecare in Elizabethton. Pastor Mains was inducted into the 2020 Appalachian League and the Carter County Sports Hall of Fames. He also served as a coach for numerous youth baseball and softball teams and was honored by Northeastern Bible College who annually presents their top athlete a scholarship award in his name.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Crosspointe Fellowship Church, Dr. Breemer, Dr. Beard, and Amedisys Hospice Team along with Pastors of the Watauga Association, J.A. Stalcup Jr. and Memorial Funeral Home, special friend Angie Wilhoit, and many others that cared so deeply for Pastor Mains.

A Service to Celebrate the life of Pastor Mains will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Babb and the Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Honorary Pastor is Rusty Verran. Active Pallbearers will be: Andy Anderson, Chris Beach, Larry Taylor, Will Horton and Ray Letterman. Honorary Pallbearers will be his church family, Ministers of the Watauga Baptist Association, David and Dan Nanney, Jack Cordell, Walt Wiley, Danny and David Birkner, Ken Cutlip, Benny Tolley, Andy Wilhoit, Jeff Reed, Ray Smith, James Cooley, Mike Roberts, Bob Sams, Steve Grindstaff and Bill Greene Jr.
