David Fair, (better known as Friday Fair) well known resident of Elizabethton died at his home on First street early this morning.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Freewill Baptist church Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock with the Rev. Clarence Howington in charge. Interment will be in the Carter cemetery (Siam Road).
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. David Fair; four daughters, Mrs. Mae Burrow, Mrs. Jack Walker, and Mrs. Retta Heaton, all of Elizabethton, and Mrs. Troy Bowers, Siam; four brothers, James Fair, of California, John, Nome, and William Fair, Elizabethton; three sisters, Mrs. Rufus Miller, Washington, D. C., Mrs. Nat Honeycutt, of Indiana, and Mrs. Marion Forbes, Elizabethton; also 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Fair was a member of the Freewill Baptist church.

Funeral services for James Fair, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Fair, who died Sunday morning at 11 o'clock at his home, were held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence by the Rev. Clarence Howington with interment in the Carter grave yard.
Young Fair was found badly burned near the Watauga river bridge Saturday by the driver of a bakery truck. He was picked up and taken to his home where his condition was reported serious. Yesterday he developed pneumonia fever resulting in his death.
Fair is said to have been in company with Ike Blevins and Doodle Burrow, fishing in the Watauga. They had a bon fire and it is believed that he either fell or was pushed in some unexplained way, into the blaze, his clothes and body being badly seared.
Survivors include the father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Fair; four sisters, Analine, Novell, Retia and Mrs. Mag Burrow; and one brother, Ben Fair.
Pallbearers included W. C. Forbes, Herman Lodge, Lynn Fair, Bill Lee, Lonnie Martin and Milton Estep.
Flower bearers: Eddie Roberson, Fabie McKinney, Blanch Howington, Emma Bowers, Etta Hoss and Orgie Winebarger.

Funeral services for Ben Fair, 35, who died at his home on First street Wednesday morning at 10:45, after a long illness, were held from the home this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. Elmer DeLoach and the Rev. Clarence Howington officiating. Burial was made in the Carter Cemetery.

ELIZABETHTON — It is with God's peace that we announce the soul of Ralph Howard Fletcher, 86, of Elizabethton, went to join his Lord on Sunday, April 4, 2010, at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida, with his family by his side.

Mr. Fletcher was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Andrew J. and Mary Nave Fletcher. In addition to his parents, Ralph has now joined his three brothers and two sisters in heaven.

He was a 1942 graduate of Unaka High School, worked for 23 years and retired from ITT Corporation.

Ralph was known for his faithfulness and the loyalty he gave not only to his family but also extended to his friends and business associates.

Mr. Fletcher belonged to the following organizations: Member and Past Master of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #622, Past High Priest of R.D. Keller Chapter #214, Past Illustrious Master of B.E. Wooten Council #119 and Carter Commandery #37, Charter Member of Jericho Shrine Temple, 32nd Degree of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Knoxville, Past President of Upper East Tennessee York Rite Association, Illustrious Grand Master of Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of Tennessee, Member of Knight Cross of Honor, received Order of the Purple Cross, Member and Past Worthy Patron of Sycamore Chapter #163 Order of Eastern Star and member of Grand Chapter of Tennessee Order of Eastern Star, Member and Past Governor of North East Tennessee York Rite College #153, Member Red Cross of Constantine and The Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priest.

He was also a member and former Deacon of Oak Street Baptist Church.

Ralph leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia Davis Fletcher; one daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Joe Reed, one granddaughter, Dena Michelle Richardson, all of Daytona Beach, Florida; two special nieces and caretakers, Angela Richardson and Diana Wright, both of Elizabethton. Several other nieces and nephews survive.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Hendrich officiating.

Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be Roscoe Peters, Carroll Mick, Foye Manning, Frank Richardson, Franklin Wright, Dylan Wright, Thomas Tester and Will Andrews. MEADOWVIEW, Va. - Vern Williams, 86, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at his residence.
He was born in Carter County, Tenn., and had lived most of his life in Washington County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Damascus and loved his Sunday school class very much.
He served his country proudly and with honor in the U. S. Navy during World War II. While in the Navy, he was a featherweight boxing champion. He was a retired fitter welder with Bristol Metals. While employed there, he was very instrumental with the construction of the Bristol Va./Tenn. sign on State Street.
He was a farmer who loved to garden and enjoyed going to the farmer's market. He was an avid reader who enjoyed reading Appalachian history. He also loved his faithful Labrador Retriever, Foxxy.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Nannie L. Williams; 2 sisters; and 11 brothers.
He is survived by his son, Vernie Williams and wife Sue of Meadowview; four daughters, Jane Day and husband Randall of Sparta, Tenn., Donna Fuller and husband Jimmy of Damascus, Suzanne McGlocklin of Bristol, Va., and Kim Parks of Bristol, Va.; one brother, Lester Williams of Londonberry, N.H.; one sister, Pauline Richardson of Grand Prairie, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, June 26, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, with Pastor David Matlock officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The committal service will be conducted Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Wayne Guinn officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veteran's Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the First Baptist Church men's Sunday school class.

Dorothy Lee Burrow, 90, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018.
Dorothy was the daughter of the late Frank and Lillie Mae Burrow. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Edwin Burrow, and her sister, Vivian Hopson.
Survivors include her sister-in-law, Bernice Burrow, and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy loved country music, people and animals. She was always content in every situation she was in. She was always ready for a laugh, seeing humor in the smallest of matters. She just desired that her memory be cherished.
Dorothy's last years were at Signature Health Care in Elizabethton and the family would like to "thank them" for all the love and care they gave to Dorothy along with the staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

ELIZABETHTON - Grady Ben Fair, 89, Elizabethton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2016 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Ben & Ida Nell Estep Fair. Grady proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was retired from the Dairy Business having owned and operated Farm Best Dairy for several years. He was an active member of East River Park Christian Church where he was a greeter and he was the candy man for the children. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Norma Lowe Fair, two brothers: Dana & Wayne Fair and one sister: Carolyn Runnion.

He is survived by his second wife: Lavelle "Bo" Hopson Fair; Son Steve & Ruth Ann Fair (Ben, Tim & Sarah), Daughter: Susan & Kenton Farr (Kelly, Nick), Son: David (Hunter & Chase). Two Step-sons: Danny Gourley, Rutledge, Tenn. and Richard Gourley, of Florida. Also survived by 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2016 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. John H. Smith, and Nick Farr Ministers officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Steve, Ben & Tim Fair officiating. Music will be provided by Kenneth Hartley and Mary Smith. It is with great grief that we mourn the departure of a precious, very much-loved Daddy, Husband, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Brother in love, and Friend, Russell Peters, who, at 85, finished his earthly journey and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. We are devastated by his loss, but we remain with the spiritual values he instilled in us and will forever cherish every day that we had as his beloved family, forever grateful to God for this precious gift. He was the son of the late Clarence M. and Dora Fletcher Peters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and their spouses: Jack and Helen Fletcher, Bynum and Lena Peters, and Willard and Joan Peters. Russell was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church and had done various church work over the years. He was a veteran, having served in the National Guard and Army Reserve. Most of his work years were with East Tennessee Chair Company as a band saw operator, who took pride and care in his part of producing beautiful pieces for various chairs. He also worked at NAR and then retired from Blue Ridge Fabricators. He was still an avid go-getter and worked hard, putting his family first with his remaining abilities up to the two weeks preceding his departure. He was at one time an avid gardener, fisherman, hunter-gatherer, wood artist, and enjoyed the mountains and beauty of God’s creation. Those left to cherish his memories and legacy are his beloved, devoted wife of 55 years, Bonnie Peters and cherished daughter, Jill Peters, along with her significant other Tom Davis, two beloved brothers, Norman Peters, Roscoe and Lynetta Peters, two beloved sisters Joyce Grindstaff and Jeanette Bowers, two Brothers and three sisters in love, Charlie(Tom) and Linda Williams, Marvin Williams, Cora Beaumont, and Brenda Riddle, along with treasured nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, as well as many spiritual brothers and sisters. An open visitation for Russell will be held Monday, May 22, 2023, between the hours of 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. Willard Peters, 81, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 5, 2021, from Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on January 19, 1940 to the late Clarence Millard Peters and Dora Belle Fletcher Peters.
Willard was employed by Summers-Taylor, where he retired. He was a member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. Willard was loved by everyone that had the joy of knowing him. He will be terribly missed by many. After he retired, Willard went back to get his GED. He also served as a volunteer firefighter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Joann F. Peters; an infant sister; his brothers, Jack Fletcher and wife Helen and Bynum Peters and wife Lena; and his brother-in-law, Landon Grindstaff.
Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Wendy Peters of Elizabethton; a step-son and step-daughter, whom he considered his own, Steve Williams and Linda Birchfield, both of Elizabethton; three granddaughters, Cindy James of Elizabethton, Whitney Vines of Kingsport and Lakisha Vines of Knoxville; two great-granddaughters, Caytlin James and Lakyn James, both of Elizabethton; his brothers, Russell Peters and wife Bonnie, Roscoe Peters and wife Lynetta and Norman Peters, all of Elizabethton; and his sisters, Joyce Grindstaff and Jeanette Bowers, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Willard Peters will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 9, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Selma Bowers Conley passed away in Christ on Friday, May 5, 2017. Service: A memorial celebration will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Arlington Seventh-day Adventist Church, 4409 Pleasant Ridge in Arlington, Texas. Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Gayle Tucker Building Fund, Arlington SDA Church by calling 817-483-4837.. Selma was born and lived in Elizabethton, Tenn., for 16 years. She moved to Dallas, Texas, married Louis H. Evans in 1948. Together, they had six children. She married Howard S. Conley in 1979. Selma was a loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, Nana, Grand-Nana, and good friend to countless people. She was a charter member of the Arlington SDA Church, helping to build the congregation from a 35-member church to one that is now over 2,300 members strong. After faithfully serving as the church secretary/treasurer for over 20 years, she retired in order to enjoy family and friends. She resided in Keene, Texas, the last two years of her life, where she was loved and cared for by many wonderful staff members of Chisholm Trail Estates. Selma was preceded in death by mother, Mary Elizabeth Williams; father, Emeril Bowers; brother, Eric Bowers; husband, Howard Conley; and grandson, Jonathan W Evans Jr. Survivors: She is survived by siblings: Joyce Bowers, James Bowers, Keith Bowers and Sandra Bowers Cederborg, She leaves behind her children: David H. Evans and wife, Jill, Donald L. Evans, Diane Trujillo and husband, Rudy, Mark A. Evans, Paul S. Evans and wife, Cindy, Jonathan W. Evans Sr. and wife, Terri. She was "Nana" to Rudy Jr., Melissa, Michael, Jonathan Jr., Na'Cole, James, Christopher, Chelsey, Justin, Brian, Josh, Alexis, and Emily, and their spouses. She was "Grand-Nana" to Lorelei, Blakely, Nathan, David, Makana, Eiligh, Duncan, Kane, Joe, Ryker, and Anela to arrive in July. She loved her many nieces and nephews as well.

ELIZABETHTON - M E “Milt” Fair, age 88, of Elizabethton, died Tuesday, January 4, 2022 in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness. He was born May 21, 1933 in Carter County and was the son of the late Dave and Annie Hampton Fair. He was a member of the Centerview Church of Christ. M E was a well-known retired car dealer as the owner of Fair’s Motors on West Elk Avenue. His love for horses was shown as he owned many horses and rode many horse trails in East Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Dennis Fair, four sisters, Edith Pierce, Eulee Carden, Margaret Greene and Helen James, seven brothers, Conley Fair, Jarvis Fair, Clarence Fair, Luther Fair, John Fair, Winifred Fair and L D Fair.
He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Life service for M E “Milt” Fair will be conducted at 2:00 P M Saturday, January 8, 2022 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home-Elizabethton with Mr. Tony Hoss, Minister officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jerry Pierce, soloist.
The committal service in the Garden of Gethsemane at Happy Valley Memorial Park will follow the service.

Shirley Anne Curde passed away and went to be with her Lord on April 10, 2022 after a long difficult battle with several illnesses. Born October 22, 1935, she was lovingly known as Moma,Nana, Curly, and Daisy Mae . She celebrated her 86th year of life this past year and will be missed by many in the Carter County community.
Shirley was a faithful member at First Christian Church in Elizabethton and a former member at Brick Christian Church in Watauga. She served as secretary at both churches.
She graduated from and played basketball for Elizabethton High School and Milligan College. For many years she then played softball in church and city leagues. She sang and led choirs and loved to be outdoors. Shirley worked at the Elizabethton Health Department for 36 years, then as Regional Health Department Director.
Shirley is proceeded in death by her parents, Virgil and Ada Bowers and by her loving husband of 59 years, Bruce Curde. She will be lovingly remembered by those left behind: Sister Nancy White, Brother David Bowers, Daughter Leslie Brockley (husband Randy), daughter Cindy Brown (husband Bob), Grandchildren Rachelle Ott, Jason Peters (wife Erin), and Matthew Ott (wife Brittany), Aaron and Anna Brockley and Amanda and Randy Brown, great grandchildren Jordan Seljouki, Natalie and Eli Peters, Madison and Kaleb Ott, and Wesley and Winnie Brockley. She is also survived by sisters-in-laws Dorothy McLain, Sonja Smalling (husband Doug) and Chris Greer, and her beloved dog, Buddy.
The service for Shirley Curde will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel, on April 15, 2022 at 1 p.m. with Mr. Jeff Campbell, Minister and Mr. Michael Klaus, Minister, officiating; special music by Gene & Carolyn Estep and Ray Don Markland; Scripture reading and Eulogy: Jason Peters and Rachelle Ott. Honorary Pallbearers will be: David Shields, Leonard February, Jeff Case, David Mills, Jason Peters, Matthew Ott, Steve Pearson, Chad Perry, Randy Brockley, Steve Dunlap, Bob Brown, Mack McKinney and her church family. She will later be buried along with her late husband at the VA Mountain Home Cemetery in Johnson City.
Thank you to the wonderful nurses, doctors and staff at Amedisys Hospice who took such good care of Shirley through her final days.
Her EHS senior yearbook included the following quote that summarized Shirley’s life: “ Here is a girl with a heart and a smile that make the bubble of life worthwhile!” She touched and will be missed by so many in the Carter County community.

JOHNSON CITY - Yvonne Matson, 85, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on September 14, 2022. Yvonne was born in Elizabethton, TN to Maggie Angel and Jarvis Fair. She graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1955 and attended ETSU. Yvonne worked at McKee Eye Hospital in Johnson City before marrying James Matson of Johnson City in 1964. Following their wedding, they moved to Middle River, MD and then to Parkton, MD in 1968, where they lived for over 40 years. In 2012 they returned to Johnson City.

Yvonne was a stay-at-home mother of two, actively involved in their elementary school activities, including being President of the Recreation Council. She began working for the USPS in the 80’s, proudly serving the communities of North Baltimore County before retiring in 2003.

Yvonne was fortunate to have made many lifelong friends. Neighbors were friends: Friends were family. Her dementia hindered her ability to remain in contact with these friends, but your names were spoken often and made her smile.

Yvonne loved springtime and watching her tulips bloom under the lilac tree. She enjoyed sending greeting cards, never missing a birthday. Yvonne loved to bake for others and made the best pie crust. Ohhh the batches of blonde brownies- too many to count!

Yvonne is survived by her son, Lyle Matson; daughter, Laurie Matson; brothers, Keith and Craig Fair; sister, Maryann Fair; dear nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Matson; brother, Malcolm Fair; her parents and many aunts and uncles.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Abundant Christian Living Community for providing her with a safe and caring environment to meet her varying levels of need over the past 10 years. We are also grateful for the guidance and care provided by Amedisys during her final stages of life.

The Family will receive friends at Tetrick Funeral Services of Johnson City on Sunday, September 18, 2022 from 11 AM until 1 PM; a celebration of life will immediately follow at 1 PM. A graveside service will be held at Happy Valley Memorial Park following at 2 PM.

Ronda Darrell Fair, age 82, died Friday, February 7, 2020 at his residence in Rainsville, Alabama. Ronda was born February 11, 1937 in Carter County and was the son of the late Luther J. and Thelma Crete Stout Fair.

Ronda was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Rainsville, Alabama.

He was a retired over the road driver with Roadway-YRC Freight Lines with a total of 29 years of service.

While driving for Roadway he received the Presidential Safety Award, the Mile Span Accident Free Award. He was also a Two Million Mile Achiever for Roadway.

Ronda was a 1955 graduate of Hampton High School and a veteran of the U S Navy. He loved to fish, and travel with his wife Margaret, especially after his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ellen Fair.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife; Margaret A. Dean Fair of the home, one daughter, Theresa (Robert) Akins of Ringgold, GA, two sons, Marcus Fair of Morristown, TN, and Benjamin Fair of Hampton, VA, a stepson, Jeff Dean, two step-daughters, Karen Selvage and Wanda Sue King, one brother, Richard (Dick) Fair and one sister, Rebecca (Beckie) Barr both of Elizabethton, two grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren.

A service to honor the life of Ronda Darrell Fair will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, February 10, 2020, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with friends and family members honoring Ronda’s life.

ELIZABETHTON - Richard Sherrill “Dick” Fair, age 82, of Elizabethton, died Thursday October 7, 2021 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Carter County on May 14, 1939 and was a son of Luther and Thelma Crete Stout Fair. Dick was a member of the Centerview Church of Christ and was a retired over the road truck driver for Roadway Express with 28 years of service. He was a 1957 graduate of Elizabethton High School. Prior to driving for Roadway Express, he was a dock supervisor for Mason and Dixon Freight Lines and was also a supervisor for the Polyester Plant of North American Rayon. He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge, #238 F and A M, a member of Knoxville Consistory of Scottish Rite and the Jericho Shrine Temple. He was a member of the Elizabethton Shrine Band and the Jesters of Jericho Temple. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Rhonda Fair.
He is survived by his son Rick Fair of Phoenix, Arizona, his sister, Rebecca Lou Fair Barr of Elizabethton, two grandchildren, Travis Fair and Curtis Fair, four great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Travis Jr., Julian and Iryiana, one niece and three nephews, his best friends Victor and Judy Deloach, a special friend Kathy McGee and numerous cousins.
A service to honor the life of Richard “Dick” Fair will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday, October 12, 2021, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Tony Hoss, Minister officiating. Music will be provided by Jerry Pierce soloist. Following the service Masonic rites will be accorded by the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM.
The family will receive friends in the chapel of the funeral home from 5:00 Tuesday until the service hour.
Interment will be in the Garden of Freedom at Happy Valley Memorial Park

Rebecca was a member of Stoney Creek Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rickey Allen Barr; son, Greg Thomas Barr; and brothers, Ron Fair and Richard Fair.
