    Euna Hughes Bentley, 76, of Newland, North Carolina went home to be with her blessed Lord on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

    Euna was born on June 7, 1946 in Avery County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late John and Nola Wise Hughes. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Butch and Ted Hughes and a sister, Carolyn McFalls.

    Euna was a most giving and loving person that everyone she came in contact with would agree to. And as big as her smile was her love for the Lord was greater. She put her trust in the Lord in all things never doubting his will would be done. God has received another angel and good and faithful servant. We will all love and miss her, but know she's safe in the arms of Jesus.

    Euna is survived by her loving husband and greatest caregiver of 56 years, Allen Bentley; her grateful son, Ronnie (Kim) Bentley; grandchildren, Mercedes and Dakota Bentley; sisters, Brenda Trivett, Margie Hughes, Helen Dellinger and Ruby Wise; brothers, Doug Hughes and Jim Hughes.

    Funeral services for Euna Hughes Bentley will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Clark officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.

    Interment will follow in the Burleson Family Cemetery.

    The family would also like to thank all her Dr.'s and Nurses at Watauga Medical Center, Dr. Clark, Jessica and Amanda and the caring staff of Hospice of the Blue Ridge. Also a special thanks to Richard, Karen and Meredith of Edward Jones, and for everyone's thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

    James Wise, age 92, of Old Hanging Rock in Newland, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, at the Brian Center Health & Rehab in Spruce Pine.

    Born on Oct. 28, 1927, in Avery County, he was the son of the late Arnold and Grace King Wise. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his Wife: Belva Denny Wise, who passed away in 2008.

    James was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Pine Grove United Methodist Church. He was known as an outdoors person that enjoyed being in nature, hunting and fishing. He was a true family man and also enjoyed socializing with his family and friends.

    Left to cherish his memories are his Son: James Wise and wife, Sandra of Newland; his Grandchildren: Jason Wise and wife, Amber of Groveland, Fla., and Laura Wise of Orlando, Fla.; and his Great grandchildren: Tyler, Dylan, Devon, and Olivia.

    The funeral service for James Wise was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Howard officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends was from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020, at the church. Interment took place in the Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
