Walter Hartsell Hoyle, 82, of 9775 107 Cutoff, Greeneville, died at his home.

Mr. Hoyle was a Unicoi County native, having lived in Greene County since 1995.

He was a son of the late Thomas and Diana Corn Hoyle.

Mr. Hoyle was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre.

He retired as a supervisor from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (T.D.O.T.) in 1985, after 16 years of service.

Mr. Hoyle was a member of Burnett's Chapel Baptist Church and was active in a number of other Baptist churches, having served as a deacon and superintendent.

Walter married Mary Kathline Guinn about 1945 in Unicoi County, , , Tennessee. Mary (daughter of Arthur Blaine Guinn and Ziporrah Tilson) was born on 28 Dec 1925 in Unicoi County, , , Tennessee; died on 27 Nov 2011 in Cherokee County, , , Georgia; was buried in Higgins Chapel Cemetery, , Unicoi County, Tennessee. Edna Hoyle Davis, 86, 523 Monroe Street, Erwin died Saturday, October 15, 2005, at her residence. She was a native of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late Robert Spencer and Ethel Chandler Hoyle. She had employeed at the former Southern Potteries and later worked at the former Industrial Garment Mfg. for more than 40 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she formerly had served in the Nursery and Children's Departments. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn G. Davis; by one brother, Grady Hoyle and by two sisters, Una Blankenship and Delia Hoyle.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home. Rev. David Crutchfield and Rev. Tim Bennett will officiate. Vocal selections will be provided by Gary Amos. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at Roselawn Memory Gardens.

ERWIN - Verl H. Stephenson, age 96, Erwin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at the Center on Aging and Health.

She lived most of her life in Unicoi County and was a daughter of the late Spencer and Ethel Chandler Hoyle.

Verl was a member of Clear Branch Baptist Church. She retired from Morrill Electric after several years of service.
Verl was a loving and dedicated mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing, cooking and canning. Verl always kept herself busy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons: Mike and Bruce Stephenson; four brothers: Robert, Grady, Hual and Vanas Hoyle; four sisters: Vera Carter, Delia Hoyle, Edna Davis and Una Blankenship.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, one son, Tony Stephenson (Pat), Unicoi; one daughter, Regina Blakely (Melvin), Winston Salem, NC; two sisters: Phyllis Hoyle and Shirley Fender, both of Erwin; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Monday, July 8, 2019 in the Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Bill Ponder will officiate at the 1:00 P.M. funeral service. Interment will follow in the Clear Branch Cemetery. Family will serve as pallbearers.

ERWIN - Gordon Jay Hoyle, age 69, of Erwin, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2019, at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

A native of Erwin, Gordon is a son of Flornia (Yates) Hoyle and the late J. B. Hoyle. He was a member of Canah Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. His occupation included: Lab Technician at Nuclear Fuel Services and maintenance at Appalachian Christian Village. Gordon was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam era. He loved Bluegrass music and enjoyed playing with friends and family.

In addition to his mother, Gordon Jay Hoyle leaves behind to cherish his memory:

Special friend and companion: Lori "Cindy" Hoyle; Daughters: Tammy Maldonado, of Oklahoma, Demia Smith, of Johnson City; Son: Shannon Hoyle, of Johnson City;

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Gordon Jay Hoyle in a graveside service to be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, June19, 2019 in Mountain Home National Cemetery.
