2. | William R. "Bill" Nunley ![]() Notes: Mr. William R. Nunley, affectionately know as "Bill", went to a higher place on Wednesday, March 21, 2007. He was a native of Carter County. He was also an outstanding citizen of the community demonstrated by his kindness, business integrity and leadership over the years. Mr. Nunley served in the military and pursued a career in electronics. Despite a job opportunity with NASA, he chose to remain in the beautiful Northeast Tennessee area he loved to raise his family. He worked at North American Rayon Corporation and Montgomery Ward before venturing into his own business. He began a small television sales and repair shop that evolved into the Nunley's Furniture Stores that have served the Tri-Cities area for over 45 years. Bill had a zest for life not often seen. He was active in sports and had the opportunity to box professionally. Bill was a lover of football games and the Tennessee Vols. His wit and charm always brought smiles and laughter. His kind nature and generous spirit warmed the hearts of everyone around him. Bill was the son of the late Richard and Vertie Nunley. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jerry Nunley, James Nunley, Jack Farmer and one sister, Shirley Baird. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife and business partner, Jewel Nunley, his cherished children, Dr. Diana Nunley-Gorman, Tony Nunley, Delilah Nunley and Deborah Bartley, and his treasured grandchildren, Brooks Gorman, Stuart Gorman, Nicholas Gorman and Myranda Gorman. He is also survived by four sisters, Ann Trivette, Nola Trivette, Gladys Humphrey and Mary Hart. The family will receive friends from noon until service time at 2 p.m. Friday, March 23 at the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace. Interment will follow in Beech Mountain Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from Mr. Nunley's friends |

9. | Shirley Naoma Nunley ![]() Notes: Shirley Naomi Baird, age 58, 169 Hazelwood Hollow Rd., Hampton passed away Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. She was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Richard and Vertie Harmon Nunley. Mrs. Baird was of the Christian faith and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, James Nunley, Jerry Nunley and Jack Farmer. Survivors are her husband of forty years, Jerry W. Baird of the home, three sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard Baird, Kingsport, Mark Baird, Hampton, Brian and Liz Baird, Butler, six grandchildren, Tyler Baird, Kingsport, Haley Baird, Grace Baird, both of Rogersville, Coen Baird, Jacob Baird, Jeremiah Baird, all of Butler, four sisters, Ann Trivette, Elk Park, NC, Nola Gay Trivette, Banner Elk, NC, Mary Jane Hart, Jonesborough, Gladys Humphrey, Watauga, and one brother, Bill Nunley, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Baird will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, December 11, in the Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. Doug Ranshaw officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Sunday in the chapel prior to the service or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 12 in Nunley Cemetery, Butler. |
