Roy William Barrier

Roy William Barrier, 76, of Jonas Ridge, NC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 4, 2015. Born in Burke County, NC on January 22, 1938, he was the son of the late Silas Christopher Barrier and Elsie Clark Barrier. Roy was retired from Drexel Heritage after 31 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Arvil Barrier, Isaac Barrier; sisters, Alice Whetzer, Brenda Wheeler; son, Michael Barrier and first wife, Sandra Barrier.
Roy is survived by his children, Shirley Garland and husband, Bob, Daphne Taylor, Dennis Barrier, all of Jonas Ridge, Tammy Smith and husband, Terry, Roy James Barrier and wife, Sharon, and Ruannia Powell, all of Morganton; sixteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2015 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Dr. Danny Emory officiating.

Roy married Sandra Kay Cobb about 1959 in North Carolina, , , . Sandra was born on 12 Mar 1942 in North Carolina, , , ; died on 16 May 1986 in Burke County, , , North Carolina; was buried in Gingercake Cemetery, , Burke County, North Carolina. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Shirley Garland, age 59, of Jonas Ridge went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Avery County, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Sandra Barrier. She was preceded in death by two Brothers: Dennis and Michael Barrier. Shirley was a member of Forest Home Community Church, where she sang in the choir. She loved the Lord, her grandchildren, flowers and watching her squirrels.

Surviving is her husband of 43 years: Bob Garland; Sons: Tim Garland of Jonas Ridge and Robert Garland and wife, Joanne, also of Jonas Ridge; Granddaughters: Kesha, Paige, Brooke and Lacey Garland; Siblings: Daphne Taylor of Pineola, Jay Barrier and wife, Sharon, of Morganton, Tammy Smith of Morganton and Ruannia Barrier of Morganton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
