DEATH TAKES CIVIL WAR VET
BUTLER, Tenn. - Joseph Powell Campbell, aged 86, died at his home in Grand Rapids Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. He had been in failing health several weeks prior to his death.
Mr. Campbell was an ex-federal soldier, having enlisted in the 13th Tennessee Cavalry in 1863 at the early age of sixteen, and served during the remainder of the War. After the war he returned to Butler, where he spent the rest of his life. Mr. Campbell was born in Butler, Tennessee in 1847.
Surviving him are Mrs. B. H. Bowman, a daughter, of Appalachia, Virginia; Daniel and F. C. Campbell, two sons, of Butler, Tennessee, and several grandchildren and numerous relatives of this vicinity.
Funeral services will be conducted from the home of the deceased in Grand Rapids section today. Interment will be in the Stallines Cemetery, on Elk.

...Ode Campbell, 61, Route 2, Butler, died in Carter County Hospital Saturday at 8 a.m. after an illness of two weeks.
He was a life-long resident of Johnson County and the son of the late George and Naomi Finney Campbell.
He was the owner of Campbell's Grocery Store and Service Station. He was a member of the Meadowview Baptist Church and had served as treasurer for a number of years.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Fay Dugger Campbell; one daughter, Mrs. Thelma Trivette, Route 2; one son, Raymond Campbell.
Funeral services were conducted from the Meadowview Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dayton Jones, Rev. Alvin Hick and the Rev. Keene Roark officiating. Music in charge of the Clyde Cornett Quartet. Active pallbearers were Delmas and George Bunton; J.C. and Jack Campbell, Tommy Conway, David Dugger, Bill Cable, J.B. and Ralph Evans. Burial was in the Bunton Cemetery.

Two Men Found Dead In Wrecked Auto Near Butler
Jake Campbell, 36 and Pink Watson, 48, both of near Butler, were killed about 8 o'clock Sunday night from what was termed an accident by investigating officers, when their jeep plunged off a 200 foot cliff near Butler.
The bodies were reportedly discovered Monday morning by school children. Details are still being sought by officers.
Campbell, a World War II veteran, was studying under the G. I. Farm trainee program.
Funeral services for Campbell will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Meadow View Baptist Church at Buntontown, with Rev. Dayton Jones and the Rev. Earl Tester officiating. Burial will be in the Buntontown Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rosa Mae Campbell; one son, Darrell of the home; six brothers, Fred of Jasper, Tenn.; Frank of Elk Mills, Bill of Butler, Dewey of Cosby, Tenn.; Ode of Butler; Clifford of Cobbs Creek, and Tom of Valley Forge; two sisters, Mrs. Maggie Bunton of Butler; Mrs. Elva Bales of Elizabethton; his mother, Mrs. Ona Campbell, of Butler.
The body was moved to the home today at 2:00 o'clock from the chapel of the Tetrick Funeral Home.

Edward "Poage" Whitehead, 92, of Johnson City, died after an extended illness on Friday, June 29, 2018, at NHC Healthcare Facility.
Poage was born in Butler, Tenn., to the late Carson Hamilton and Abbie Gill Campbell Whitehead. He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Frank, Herbert, Clyde, Bobby, J.D. and Bill Whitehead, and four sisters, Frances Hafner, Mae Reed, Dorothy Campbell and Christine Dye.
Poage was of the Baptist faith. He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruby Buck Whitehead, who never left his side.
Poage is also survived by his loving family, daughter, Carolyn Carrier (Larry Gene); grandchildren, Christy Thompson (Travis) and Heather Brush (Drew); and great-grandchildren, Carson and Ella Thompson and Breden Brush. Mr. Whitehead is also survived by two sisters, Sara Sellers and Jean Stewart, and two brothers, Bud Whitehead (Betty) and Paul Whitehead (Jean). Also left to cherish his memory are several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services for Edward "Poage" Whitehead will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, July 2, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. R.L. Poole officiating and Travis Thompson providing the music. Mr. Earnest "E.C." Campbell, 84, 170 Flora Dugger Road, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, December 26, 2008, in Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness.

A native of Johnson County, TN, he was the son of the late Dan and Sallie White Campbell. He was a retired truck driver and farmer. He was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Campbell was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Dugger Campbell; four sisters, Marie Hatley, Ophra Greene, Emma Taylor and Anabelle Potter; two brothers, Roy Campbell and J.P. Campbell; and a grandson, Daniel Campbell.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard E. and Pam Campbell, Lloyd E. and Roberta Campbell and Joe and Kim Campbell, all of Elizabethton; six grandchildren, Missy, Ernie, Ann, Jaclyn, Brandon and Autumn; and four great-grandchildren, Brittney, Kaitlin, Tristan and Jaelyn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service for Mr. Earnest "E.C." Campbell will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, December 29, 2008, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Hardin officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Dale Williams.

ELIZABETHTON — Jack C. Campbell, 81, 130 Earl Avenue, Elizabethton, died Sunday, June 25, 2006 in the Hermitage Health Care Center.

A native of Johnson County, he was the son of the late John Frank and Rosa Ward Campbell. Mr. Campbell was a member of Stout Hill Church of Christ and a retired logger. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Irick Campbell; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol Ann and John Guin, and Edith Guy of Elizabethton and Lisa and Gary Potter of Hudson, N.C.; three grandsons, Jason and Joshua Potter and Jonathan Guin. Two brothers, Joe Campbell of Hampton and Jim Campbell of Butler.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2006 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. David Irick officiating. Graveside and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2006 in Whitehead Cemetery. Music will be provided by the Laurel Creek Trio.

Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. Friday will be: Jason Potter, Joshua Potter, John Guin, Gary Potter, Eddie Clawson and Donnie Cable. BUTLER — Selma Campbell Trivette, age 83, 228 Meadowview Church Rd, Butler, went to be with her Lord Saturday, May 10, 2008, in the Johnson County Community Hospital following a brief illness.

A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Ode and Fay Dugger Campbell. Mrs. Trivette was a graduate of the Watauga Academy, and spent the majority of her life as a homemaker lovingly taking care of her husband and children. She was a devoted member and past Sunday school teacher at Meadowview Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vance L. Trivette, Sr. and an infant son, Wesley Trivette.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Harrison and husband, Elwin "Sonny," and Carolyn Arnold and husband, Ross, all of Mountain City; two sons, Lowell Trivette and wife, Glenda, of Elk Park, NC, and Vance L. Trivette, Jr. and wife, Laura, of Marion, NC; a granddaughter, Amy Oliver and husband, Kevin, Mountain City; two step-grandchildren, Jennifer Carroll and husband, David, and Greg Berryhill, all of Marion, NC; three step-great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Anna, and Meredith Carroll, all of Marion, NC; a brother, Raymond Campbell and wife, Anna Ruth, of Butler; and special friends, JoAnne Cable, Kathy Hartley, and Tina Clawson, all of Butler. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A funeral service for Mrs. Selma Trivette will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 13, 2008, in the Meadowview Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Jones, Rev. Charles Worley, and Rev. Russell Potter officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Meadowview Baptist Church choir. The graveside service and interment will follow immediately in the Dugger Family Cemetery in the Buntontown Community.

Raymond Campbell, 86, passed away on February 9, 2022 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton, Tenn. Raymond was born on January 2, 1936 in Buntontown to the late Ode Campbell and Fay Dugger Campbell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anna Ruth Campbell, and his sister, Selma Trivette.
Raymond enjoyed farming and raising his cattle and tobacco. He worked at Bemberg and also drove a school bus for the Carter County School System for over 30 years. He loved cheering on the Tennessee Vols and the Atlanta Braves. Raymond was an active member of the Roan Creek Masonic Lodge #679 and Butler Eastern Star #218. He was also a Scottish Rite Mason and a Jericho Shriner.
Raymond loved his family and the Lord. He served as a deacon for many years at Meadowview Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memories include his daughter, Tamy Duffield and husband Michael; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joyce Walsh, Bill Walsh and wife Doris, Margaret Walsh and Gerry Walsh; paternal nieces and nephews, Linda Harrison and husband Sonny, Carolyn Arnold, Lowell Trivette and wife Glenda and Vance Trivette and wife Laura; special cousin, Claude Campbell; several other nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Peanut and Pixie.
The graveside service for Raymond will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 11, at the Dugger Family Cemetery with Pastor Richard Jones officiating. A native of Johnson County, she had lived most of her life in Carter
County.

She was the daughter of the late Thomas B. and Esther Bunton Campbell.

She was a homemaker and attended Siam Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Whitehead, and a brother,
Glen Campbell.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years of marriage, Rhudy Arnold;
three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Bill Ballard, Roan Mountain;
Glenda and Lide Steadman, Aiken, S.C.; Diane and Dr. Jack Presnell,
Bluff City; four sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Sue Arnold,
Paulina, La.; James and Ann Arnold, New Ellenton, S.C.; John and Jane
Arnold, Aiken, S.C.; Richard and Linda Arnold, Elizabethton; one brother
and sister-in-law, J.C. and Jeanette Campbell, Roan Mountian; one sister,
Wilma Lee, Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Betty Campbell,

2004 at Tetrick Funeral Home Riverside Chapel with Rev. Jack Roddy
officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. in the
funeral home chapel on Tuesday prior to the funeral service, or friends
may call at the residence 136 Arnold Ave., Elizabethton, any time. The
graveside service and burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday,
November 3, 2004 at Roselawn Memory Gardens, Johnson City. Those who plan
to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home
chapel at 10 a.m. on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active

Bobby Wayne Campbell, 80, Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 26, 2015.
A native of Butler, he was a son of the late Roy & Carma Pierce Campbell. He had lived most of his life in the Stoney Creek Community. Mr. Campbell worked at North American Rayon Corporation, Powell Construction and was former owner of Campbell's Guttering.
He was a faithful member and former deacon of Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glen Campbell; and a sister, Vanessa Campbell.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years: Shirley Estep Campbell; Two Daughters: Teresa Combs and husband, Alan, and Debbie Eggers and husband, Joe; One Granddaughter: Emily Hendrix and husband, Alex; Three special great granddaughters: Ava, Amelia & Adelyn Hendrix; One Brother: Tommy Campbell and wife, JoAnn; Three Sisters: Shelby Jean Campbell, Thelma Pearce and Lynn Bowers; and a special brother-in-law: Paul Estep.
The home going service of Mr. Campbell will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2015, in the Holly Springs Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Justin Hodges officiating.

ELIZABETHTON - Joseph Lynn Campbell, 64, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at his residence. He was born March 21, 1958 in Carter County to the late E.C. & Nell Dugger Campbell. Joe was a 1976 graduate of Unaka High School where he played Basketball and Football. He retired as Director of Operations at the Elizabethton Electric System after 28 years of service. After his retirement from the Electric System, he was employed as Safety Instructor for J.T. & S. out of Murfreesboro. He loved hunting, camping and farming. Joe was a member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Daniel Campbell.

Survivors include his wife: Kimberly Holly Campbell. One Daughter: Jaclyn Gifford. Two Stepchildren: Autumn (Nathan) Kyte and Brandon Little. Two Brothers: Richard (Pam) Campbell and Edward (Roberta) Campbell. Several nieces and nephews. His two cats: Patches & Eddie.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2023 in the Fairview Baptist Church, Watauga Road, Elizabethton with Pastor Gary Roe officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be his many, many friends that he has made through the years.

Barbara Smith, 72, of Butler, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord and those who passed before her on Sunday, November 10, 2019, at Hillview Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Ray Herbert and Nora Campbell Whaley. Barbara was a caring, sweet and loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church. Barbara enjoyed flowers, gardening, fishing and taking care of the home. She loved to go to yard sales and flea markets, also.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, James Leonard Smith; son, Bobby G. Whaley; sister, Bonnie Clawson; brother-in-law, Homer Clawson; sister-in-law, Molly Clawson; and a special niece, Nora Lee Campbell.
Those left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Cody Ray Whaley, Johnathan Robert Whaley and Katie Lynn Whaley; sister, Linda Campbell and husband Robert; two brothers, Bobby Ray Whaley Sr. and wife Fannie Jane of Butler and Luther Whaley and wife Bernice of Elk Mills; aunt, Lennis Bunton; special nephew, Bobby Ray Whaley Jr.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
At the request of Barbara there will only be a graveside service to honor the life of Barbara Smith that will be conducted on Wednesday, November 13, at 2 p.m. at the Lakeview Cemetery, Butler, Tenn., with the Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. Active pallbearers will be Bobby Ray Whaley Jr., Johnathan Whaley, Cody Whaley, Mason Campbell, George Davenport and Doug Hatley. Honorary pallbearers will be Katie Whaley, James Whaley and Jason Whaley.
