    UNICOI - Bertie Lou Waldrop Hopson, age 83, of Unicoi, went home to be with the Lord on October, 15, 2018 at The Waters of Roan Highlands Nursing Home.

    She was a native of Carter County, TN. Bertie was the wife of 60 years to the late Jack Hopson where they lived on Marbleton Road in Unicoi. She was the daughter of the late Clifton and Pearl Wagner Waldrop of Watauga. Bertie loved her family dearly and always made holidays special with her cooking. She loved going to church at Green Pine Baptist and her favorite song was Amazing Grace. Her favorite things to do was gardening in her beautiful flowers and feeding the squirrels and deer in her yard. She will greatly be missed by all those who had the privilege to know her. In addition to her parents and her late husband, Bertie is preceded in death by a great grandson Gavin Hopson, great granddaughter, Paislee Gouge, a brother Clifton Junior Waldrop, sisters Angeline Head of Elizabethton and Linda Sue Merritt of North Carolina.

    Bertie Lou Waldrop Hopson has left behind to cherish her memory: Sons: Tony Ray Hopson and wife, Helen of Elizabethton, Danny Hopson of Unicoi; Sisters: Mabel Zabel of Kentucky,
    Zella Mae Price of Ohio, Dorothy Bolin of Kentucky, Lovella Brummitt of Johnson City, TN,
    Opal Porch of Johnson City, TN, Pauletta Carpenter of Elizabethton, TN, Trudy Key of Telford, TN; Brother: Donald David Waldrop; 7 Grandchildren: Bobby, Jeremiah, Kris, Racheal, Dani Jo, Tony Jr., and Sydney; 9 Great Grandchildren.

    The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Bertie Lou Waldrop Hopson in a funeral service to be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 18, 2018 in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. Reverend Jack Dykes and Reverend Dallas Greg will officiate. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will begin at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 18, 2018 and will continue until service time in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home. A committal service will be held in Roselawn Memory Gardens immediately following the funeral service on Thursday. Those serving as active pallbearers will be Tony Hopson, Danny Hopson, Kris Hopson, Tony Hopson, Jr., George Atkin, and Dakota Gouge.

    Birtie married Jack Hopson about 1954 in , Giles County, Tennessee, . Jack (son of Jacob A. Hopson and Ader Peterson) was born about 1932 in Mitchell County, , , North Carolina; died on 2 Jun 2015 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Roselawn Memorial Park, , Carter County, Tennessee.     JOHNSON CITY - Opal Jane Poarch, age 76, of Johnson City, TN passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021 at the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.

    She was a member of New Hope Church of Christ. Opal also worked for Jonesborough Elementary for 17 years as a library assistant.

    Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Pearl Waldrop; her son, Christopher; and her grandson, Christopher Jr.

    She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Wayne Poarch; her daughter, Deena Widener and her husband, Randal; son, Tim Poarch and his wife, Michele; grandson, Matthew Widener; and granddaughter, Amber Poarch.

    The family extends special thanks to Ballad Health Hospice, Opal’s sister, Paulette Carpenter, and best friends, Carolyn Arwood, Lois Deakins, and Penny Livingston for their help and love.

    Opal’s family will receive friends from 4:30-6:00 pm on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. There will be a funeral service immediately following the visitation, beginning at 6:00 pm, under the direction of Rev. Paul Peer. The service will be livestreamed on the Morris-Baker website, under Opal’s obituary page, and it will be available to view for 90 days. The committal service will be conducted at 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at Monte Vista Memorial Park.

    Opal married Wayne Edward Poarch on 6 May 1962 in Carter County, , , Tennessee. Wayne (son of Albert Paul Poarch and Vena Evelyn Holder) was born on 26 Nov 1942 in , Giles County, Tennessee, ; died on 18 Jan 2022 in Washington County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Monte Vista Memorial Park, , Washington County, Tennessee.
