Mr. Hardin was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Alvin
P. and Bessie Bowers Hardin. He was also preceded in death by three brothers,
Alfred Johnny Hardin, Greene E. Hardin and Leonard Hardin, and a sister,
Naomi Hardin.
Mr. Hardin was the Oldest Member of Blue Springs Christian Church. He
retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 32 years of service.
He was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F&AM and was a 32nd Degree
Mason for 52 years.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Bowers Hardin, of the home; a son and
daughter-in-law, Grant W. and Phyllis Hardin, Hampton; a grandson and
granddaughter-in-law, Jamey and Renee Hardin, Elizabethton; two
granddaughters, Cindy Lenore Canter and Angela Hardin Shingleton, both of
Elizabethton; a step-grandson, Gregory Lynn McKinney, Hampton; a step-
granddaughter, Suzanne McKinney, Kingsport; three great-grandsons, Zachary
Hardin, Elijah Shingleton and Dustin Canter, all of Elizabethton; a great-
granddaughter, Keaton Shingleton, Elizabethton; a step-great-granddaughter,
Madison Jane McKinney, Kingsport; a sister, Myrtle Buckles, Elizabethton;
two brothers and a sister-in-law, Garnie and Beulah Hardin, Hampton, and
G.C. Hardin, Elizabethton; and two special friends, Bob Couzzi and Lillie
Jean McNeal, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Bill Nave Loop, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, May 16, 2002, will
be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 19, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick
Funeral Home with Mr. Richard Thomason and Mr. Don Marshall, ministers,
officiating. Music will be under the direction of Ray Estep and Russell
Potter. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m.
Monday, May 20, at Grover Bowers Cemetery, Blue Springs Community. Active

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Alvin and Bessie Bowers Hardin. He was a retired employee of the Bemberg Corporation. Mr. Hardin was a paper carrier for the Johnson City Press for 17 years. He loved to work on lawn mowers , working in his garden and antique cars. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Beulah Bowers Hardin, July 8, 2006 and three brothers: Eston, Greene and Alfred Hardin. He was a member of the Willow Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include Two Sons: Grady M. Hardin and wife Phyllis, Bean Station, Tenn., and Harley J. Hardin, Newton, North Carolina. Two Daughters: Mary Katherine Mueller and husband Richard, Aiken, South Carolina and Nora J. Fritts and husband Mitchell, Elizabethton. 6 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2010 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Carr officiating. Interment will follow in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Grant C. Hardin, 99, of Elizabethton, formerly of 827 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Pine Ridge Care and Rehab Center. Grant was born on July 7, 1917 and was a son of the late Alvin P. Hardin and Bessie C. Bowers Hardin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Pauline Oliver Hardin, on December 19, 2001, and four brothers, Garnie Hardin, Eston Hardin, Alf Hardin and Greene Hardin.
Grant was drafted into the United States Army during World War II. He served his country in Germany for three years. When he returned home he went to work at the Bemberg Corporation, which ironically was a German Rayon Manufacturer and one of the largest employers ever in Carter County. He retired from Bemberg as a machine operator. One of his hobbies was Bingo, which he attended every week in his sport coat and dress hat. He was also a member of the Masons and the Shriners. He was a very humble man who didn't like to say a lot about himself, but once stated "although I was drafted into the Army, I served my country with pride." He was the oldest member of Blue Springs Christian Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include one sister, Myrtle Buckles, of Elizabethton, and many nieces and nephews.
A service to honor the life of Mr. Grant C. Hardin will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, September 16, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Mr. Andrew Church providing a eulogy and Mr. Richard Thomason providing a prayer. Music will be under the direction of Donna Ellis. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence of his brother-in-law, Gayle Oliver, at other times. The graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, September 17, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Mrs. Branch was a lifelong resident of Carter County and the daughter of the late Abraham and Rachel Williams. She was a Charter member and the oldest living member of Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church and also attended New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie M. Branch; one daughter, Loretta P. Diamond; two sons, Martin Van Branch and Carrick Ben Branch Sr.; six brothers, Teddy, Albert, Dewey, Lon, Rex and Harry Williams; and six sisters, Pearl Williams, Ruby Nidiffer, Daisy Grindstaff, Georgie Lewis, Josie Hodges and Flossie Williams. Survivors include one daughter, Jeanetta B. Webb, of Elizabethton; one daughter-in-law, LaVerne Kennedy Branch, of Crystal River, Florida; and eleven grandchildren, Kathy Webb, Kenneth Webb, Kaye Webb Garland, Noel Branch, Jewel Ward, Joann Nidiffer, Carrick Ben Branch Jr., April Head, Lori Helmdach, Susie Vearner and Donald Diamond. ELIZABETHTON — Gilbert Gibson Hardin, Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012, in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late John R. & Hettie Frazier Hardin. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Japanese Occupation Force. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation.

Mr. Hardin was the last member of the Hardin Brothers Quartet. The Quartet has sung for many funeral services and also church services in East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Western North Carolina, West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky since they began singing in the early 1940s .

Mr. Hardin was a member of the New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church and was a former Member, Choir Director and Trustee of Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sibilia Garland Hardin; a daughter: Thelma Dale Hardin; and Six brothers: Albert, Clyde, Auda, Wesley, Guy & Hobart Hardin.

Survivors include a son: Vernon Hardin; and many nieces & nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012, in the New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Colbaugh and Rev. Bill Greer officiating. The eulogy will be given by Rev. Randy Johnson.

Interment will follow in the Blevins Cemetery with the Rev. Clate Briggs officiating. Music will be provided by the New Liberty Choirs, New Liberty Quartet and friends. She was a member of the Linville Evangelical Methodist Church. Thelma had worked for many years as the Hostess for Esseola Lodge and enjoyed cooking, canning, and being with her family.

Mrs. Ward was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed making crafts, selling her jelly at the flea market and playing Bingo.
Survivors include three daughters, Helen Sue Ward O'Bannon and husband, Barrie, of Hot Springs, Arkansas; Barbara Ann Ward Herron and husband, Barry, of Dorothy, West Virginia; Kathy E. Williams and companion, Kenneth Fletcher, both of Elizabethton; one son, Raymond G. Ward, of Elizabethton; eleven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Grace Herman, of Alabama; one brother-in-law, Abraham Ward, of Mississippi. Mr. Oliver was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Lorina Myers Oliver. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Rita Buckles Oliver, an infant son, Joseph Allen Oliver, a sister, Clara Bowers, and three brothers, Fornie Oliver, Jessie Oliver and Cecil Oliver.
Mr. Oliver was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church and a retired employee of Mapes Piano String Company.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Juanita Oliver, Elizabethton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Annie and Preston Williams, Elizabethton, and Pearl Grindstaff, Valdese, N.C.; and a special friend, Pansy Hart, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Roger Rickey Markland of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with his heavenly Father on September 14, 2022.
Roger had a love for life and the outdoors. He never met a stranger; but most of all, he loved the Lord. I know Heaven has gained an angel. Though with tears in my eyes, I let you go because the I know the loss is mine, but Heaven’s gain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lundy and Evadean Dugger Markland; two sisters, Gearlean Campbell and Roma Markland; and one brother, Norman Markland.

Erma Myers - JOHNSON CITY
Erma Jean Hardin Myers, age 69, Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 29, 2008, from Christian Care Center of Johnson City following a brief illness.

She was a Carter County native and a daughter of the late Cecil J. and Ruby Grindstaff Hardin. Mrs. Myers was a graduate of Unaka High School class of 1955 and always enjoyed working on the class reunion committee.

Professionally, she was the financial secretary of First Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, for thirty-two years. She truly learned to love God's Presbyterian children and enjoyed her years there.

Mrs. Myers became a Christian at an early age, being led to the Lord by the late dear one, Gertrude Hale. She was, at one time, a member of Willow Springs and Caldwell Springs Baptist Churches on Stony Creek. There she was taught by scripture and example.

After her marriage to Dr. George G. Myers (former ETSU professor), in May of 1955, she joined the Dungan Chapel Baptist Church with him and began an active service of Teaching and working in many areas of the Church's program. For twenty-five years, she worked tirelessly at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in West Carter County.

For the last thirteen years, Mrs. Myers had been a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton, where she continued to be an innovative teacher, employing flip charts and many objects to illustrate a Sunday School lesson. She became known as the "Bag Lady" because there was always an object in her bag to make a point in a lesson.

Mrs. Myers would like to be remembered as a child of God, a servant and teacher in His church, a caring friend, mother and wife.

Mrs. Myers is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Dr. George G. Myers, of the home; and she was the proud mother of three sons and daughters-in-law: Glenn Stanley and Vicki Myers, Bristol, TN, Lynn Cecil and Rita Myers, Dr. James and Donna Myers, all of Johnson City. Mrs. Myers' other surviving family members are one grandson: Christopher George Myers, Johnson City; one sister and brother-in-law; Lois Fay (Hopson) Treadway and Bob Treadway; one brother and sister-in-law: John H. and Nyoka Hardin, Elizabethton; her nieces and nephews: David Keith and Connie Jo Hopson, Judy Hopson, John Claude and Jennifer Hardin, Jeremy Hardin, Richard and Vikki Thomas and Heather Richardson. In addition, her special friends Nita DeSalme, Wanda Bowers and a number of great-nieces, great-nephews and special cousins also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Myers will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in the First Baptist Church, Elizabethton, with Dr. Angus R. Shaw and Dr. Jim Royston officiating. Music will be under the direction of Julie Cardwell and Tim Smith. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, in the Ensor Cemetery. Everyone is welcome to meet the family at 10 a.m. Friday at Tetrick Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery. John H. Hardin, 80, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 9, 2022, from Holston Valley Medical Center. John was born in Carter County to the late Cecil H. Hardin and Ruby A. Grindstaff Hardin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Erma J. Myers and Lois Treadway.
John H. Hardin was a family man who always placed God and his family first. He was involved in many things, but he always found the time for God and family. He was a member of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for close to 30 years and also served as a trustee.
John retired from Unaka High School following 33 years teaching agriculture and where he had the only butchering class in Tennessee. He also taught agriculture at Elizabethton High School for four years. His knowledge of agriculture led him to be President of the TN National Vocational Agricultural Association as well as Chairman of the Soil Conservation Service of Elizabethton for many years. John has always loved the land and had a genuine dedication to farming. He was raised in Carter County and farmed here his entire life. His father and grandfather were farmers before him. When he was six years old, his father gave him a calf and told him that he was responsible for it. All through high school, even though he played football, he still had to take care of the dairy cows. While he was in college, he got up each morning at 4:30 a.m. to milk 48 cows before going to school. John has shared his love of the land by teaching his children to love the land that God gave them.
John H. Hardin is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Nyoka Hardin; his sons, John Claude Hardin (Jennifer) of Elizabethton and Jeremy L. Hardin (Megan) of Elizabethton; his daughters, Vikki Thomas (Richard) of Elizabethton and Heather Leonard (Dennis) of Bristol, Va.; his grandchildren, Chandler Thomas, Kyndal Thomas, Mason Richardson, Ava Leonard, Hannah Taylor, John Hardin and Gracie Hardin; and his sister-in-law, Jonnie Wilson of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to honor and celebrate the life of John H. Hardin will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Bill Greer officiating. Pallbearers are Richard Thomas, Dennis Leonard, Deon Sheffield, Doyce Sheffield, Mason Richardson, Richard Allen, Bryce Richardson and Mike Nidiffer. Linda Sue Kyte, age 75, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 8, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Linda was born in Elizabethton to the late Carl Lester Hardin, Sr. and Nora Beatrice Wilson Hardin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Richard Kyte, Sr.

Linda was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She has worked as a dietician. She attended Sims Hill Christian Church. Linda loved to be outside working in her garden and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to travel, camp, and her beloved dogs, Bandit, Fifi and Zach. She simply enjoyed life!

Those left to cherish her memories include two sons, Norman Richard Kyte, Jr. and wife Patricia Gail, of Elizabethton, and Brian Duane Kyte and wife Whitney Michelle, of Knoxville; one daughter, Kathy Kyte, of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Kevin Lynn Kyte, Casey Nicole Kyte Saults, Blaklyn DeLain Kyte, Zaiden Murray Kyte, and Beckett Raines Kyte; one great granddaughter, Calista Jewel Saults; one brother, Carl Lester Hardin, Jr., Hampton; two sisters, Sherry Fortner, of Elizabethton and Charlotte Williams, of Erwin; and an uncle, Pete Wilson, of Elizabethton. Mrs. Elizabeth Rains Ramey, 88, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at her residence. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late David P. and Ellen Forbes Rains.
Elizabeth had worked as an administration assistant in the Supervisor's Office for the Elizabethton City School System. She was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everette "Buddy" Ramey; two sisters, Mary Maples and Florence Songer; and a brother, Lawrence "Bud" Rains.

Harry Houston “Bud” White of Lawrenceville, Ga., passed away on April 26, 2021 in Buford, Ga. Harry was a native of Carter County. His parents were Dan and Ollie White of Stoney Creek.
Harry graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1948, and entered the U.S. Air Force where he served as a flight radio operator during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and became a telecommunications engineer. He married Jean (Barnes) White, also of Elizabethton, and spent most of the remainder of his life in the Atlanta area. After retiring from the telecommunications industry, Harry joined Admissions and Guest Services at Dollywood Theme Park (Pigeon Forge, Tenn.), where he worked for an additional 18 years before “retiring” again.
Harry was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, where he became a 32nd-degree Mason. He served as a Deacon at Mount Carmel Christian Church, Stone Mountain, Ga., for a number of years. He loved reading about the Old West, and made several trips to his favorite place: Yellowstone National Park.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, and is survived by his two children, Dr. Richard E. White and Sandra J. White, both of Dacula, Ga.; two grandchildren, Gina M. White, Augusta, Ga., and Daniel R. White, Dacula, Ga.; and a sister, Hazel Truman Hester, Lake Mary, Fla.

Emma Peters Hurley, 83, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late John W. and Vennia Colbaugh Peters and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death, by her husband, Glen "Buck" Hurley; son, John R. Hurley; and 14 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Hurley was a member of New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and working word puzzles.

She is survived by her daughter, Neta Schneibolk of Sandy Spring, MD; two sons, Ronnie Hurley and Greg Hurley and his wife Brenda all of Elizabethton; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a special niece, Becky Peters Lay; sister, Reba Vines and her husband Jerry of Elizabethton; and a special friend and "sister", Addie Blevins of Elizabethton. Hardin, on August 25, 1997; and two infant daughters; Her son-in-law, Arlin Hopson, January 4, 2005; and a brother, Harold Grindstaff in February 2005. ELIZABETHTON — Dimple M. Williams, 93, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012, in the Pine Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Daisy Williams Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Vivian Buracker; two sons, Terry Williams and Jewell "Pete" Williams; three sisters, Ruby Hardin, Opal Gouge and June Allen; two brothers, Harold Grindstaff and Wesley Grindstaff; ex-husband, Dewey Williams.

Mrs. Williams was a retired seamstress and was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, working in her flowers and sewing.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Cole and husband, Karl, Elkridge, MD; a son, Harold Williams and wife, Linda, Mooresboro, NC; three brothers, A.B. Grindstaff, David Grindstaff and Elic Grindstaff, all of Elizabethton; two sisters, Josie Shook, whom she considered her "most special sister" for her whole life and husband, Jack, Elizabethton, and Dorothy Deloach, Elizabethton; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Survivors also include, Claudia Proctor and Roy Wayne Shipley, both of whom Mrs. Williams raised as her own.

ELIZABETHTON '97 Opal C. Gouge, age 87, 977 Hwy. 91, Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 26, 2008, from Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness.

She was a Carter County native born to the late Claude and Daisy Williams Grindstaff. Mrs. Gouge was a member of Watauga Valley Free Will Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and retired from Raytheon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son; one brother: Harold Grindstaff; and one sister: Ruby Hardin.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law: Norman Gouge, Elizabethton, William and Donna Gouge, Mt. Holly, NC; one daughter and son-in-law: Sharon and Harry Compton, Orange, VA; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters and one brother-in-law: June and Bill Allen, Dimple Williams, and two brothers and one sister-in-law: Wesley and Lucille Grindstaff, A.B. JOHNSON CITY - Euretha I. Anderson, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at her home.

She was born on January 5, 1926, in Stoney Creek, Carter County, TN, the daughter of Conley and Josephine (Williams) Hodges. They preceded her in death, along with her husband, Guy in 1977, and her brother, Kermit Hodges and her sister, Velma Rowe.

Mrs. Anderson was a longtime member of N.G. Taylor Memorial United Methodist Church where she was the pianist of the church for 60 years. She worked as the secretary for the Music Department at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, for 15 years, retiring in July of 1994. She loved her family and was a great cook.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her sons, Steven (and his wife, Claudia) Anderson, of Johnson City, and Tony (and his wife, Estela) Anderson of Savannah, GA; her grandchildren, Eric and Amber Anderson of Johnson City, and Alina Odom of Statesboro, GA, and Nick Anderson of Chicago, IL; and her great grandchildren, Ava Odom and Grant Odom.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, February 26, 2018, from 2 to 3 pm, at Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services, 3001 Peoples Street, Johnson City, TN 37604, (423) 610-7171. JACKSONVILLE, FL - Kenneth Leonard Williams, age 86, of Jacksonville, Florida, formerly of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, as a result of a fall.

Kenneth was born in Elizabethton on December 17, 1931 to the late Clyde Williams, Sr and Flossie Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Kate (Katie) Stout Williams; a sister, Nona (Sue) Williams; and a brother, Clyde Williams, Jr.

Kenneth was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Tennessee Department of Human Services, where he had served as Regional Director. He had worked as a crew member of several movie and television shows. Kenneth had played fast pitch softball for several local teams for many years and was an avid sports fan and western film buff. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Johnson City, Tennessee and had presently attended services at the Cypress Village Retirement Community in Florida.

Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Debra Harvey and Barbara Harris, both of Jacksonville, FL; a son-in-law, Chris Harris, also of Jacksonville; a granddaughter, Amanda Harvey and husband Aaron Yampolski and two great grandchildren, Emma Katherine (Katie) and Lucas Yampolski, all of Los Angeles, CA; and a brother, Gary Williams, of Elizabethton. Several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton.

Jeanetta Branch Webb, 92, of Elizabethton, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. She was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Willie and Violet Williams Branch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Webb; a daughter, Kathy Webb; and a son, Kenny Webb.
Jeanetta attended Lees-McRae College where she received a Medical Records Librarian Degree. She then attended Milligan College where she received a degree in Education, and eventually received a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Tennessee. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Elizabethton.
Jeanette loved animals and the UT Lady Vols. She cared deeply for her family and unselfishly never hesitated to do without so that she could take care of those in need.
Those left to cherish her many memories include her daughter, Kaye, and son-in-law, Chris Garland, of Elizabethton, and two grandsons, Sumner Garland of Knoxville and Travis Webb of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A private entombment service will be conducted in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and to Amedisys Hospice for the love and care given to Jeanetta during her illness.

ELIZABETHTON — Carrell Brittian Lewis, 74, Elizabethton passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010, in the Johnson City Medical Center.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Bernie B. and Georgia Williams Lewis. Mr. Lewis worked for several years at American Optical Company of Johnson City and Orlando, Florida, and retired as a Construction Worker. He was of the Christian Faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: George McBernie Lewis; and a sister: Betty Jo Lewis.

Survivors include his wife: Martine Oliver Lewis; A Brother & Sister-In-Law: Leonard & Juanita Lewis, Elizabethton; Several Nieces & Nephews, including a special niece, Maggie Herrmann and her husband, Jeff; & Great Nieces & Nephews, including a special great nephew: Clayton Owens.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Wilson Cemetery with Dr. James Richardson officiating.

Burial will follow the service. Eddie F. Williams, 73, of Leesburg, Fla., passed away suddenly on Monday, July 15, 2019. Born and raised in Elizabethton, Tenn., Eddie attended the University of Tennessee where he earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Shortly after beginning his career, he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968. After his service, he worked 32 years in Civil Service at the Naval Air Warfare Center in Orlando, Fla., building flight and ship simulators for the U.S. government. He retired in 2000 and moved back to his hometown of Elizabethton, where he resided for 17 years with his wife, Sharon. He then moved with Sharon to Leesburg and lived happily for two years near his daughter, Rebecca, and son-in-law, Stefan, preceding his death.
Eddie loved gardening, plants and blooms, and most of all, orchids. He loved all things technological and was a history buff. Eddie had a love for food and you oftentimes found him with a sweet treat or cooking up a new recipe in the kitchen.
He loved walking his best friend, Miniature Schnauzer, Jasper, and chatting with all the neighbors.
Eddie is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Sharon Vance Williams and his children, Rebecca Williams (Stefan) Basic of Apopka, Fla., and Abigail Williams (David) Hicks of Jonesboro, Tenn.; his two sisters, Loretta Williams May and Ramona Williams Trent of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and his two brothers, Theodore Williams and Bobby Williams of Knoxville, Tenn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his much loved dog, Jasper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Teddy A. Williams and Novella Gouge Williams of Elizabethton, Tenn.
Services were held at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton, Tenn., and interment at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tenn.

Lawrence Hardin, 94 passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on December 1, 2022. Born December 28,1927. Lawrence was the son of Clyde and Goldie Shankle Hardin and was born in Inman, VA and moved to Carter County as a young boy. He was a 1946 graduate of Unaka High School, where he was a basketball and baseball standout. Lawrence honorably served his country during World War II in the United States Army where he was stationed in Japan. He dutifully worked at North American Rayon Corporation for 40 years. Mr. Hardin was a charter member of Carter Christian Church in the Stoney Creek Community for 87 years, faithfully serving the church he loved as both a deacon and elder.

Lawrence was cherished by his family as a loving father and Papaw. He enjoyed being outside working in his yard and beautiful garden and reading and studying the Bible. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching the TN VOLS play football and basketball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Ella Mae Hardin who passed away in 2015 and three brothers, Frankie, Johnny, and Howard Hardin.

Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Judy and Larry Estep, Elizabethton and a son and daughter in law, Philip and Karla Hardin, Fairhope, AL. Four granddaughters, Beth Bare and husband Daniel, Hollie Shah and husband Sam, Audrey Hardin, and Abigail Hardin; four great grandchildren, Kendall and Kacie Bare and Carson and Ava Shah; special sister-in-law Carol Myers.

Lawrence loved being at home and was comforted by all who gave him excellent care. A very special thank you to Amedisys nurses Megan and Sarah and Silver Angels nurse Cindy, and Stacey for your care and compassion.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00am Monday, December 5, 2022. in the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at 11:30am at Happy Valley Memorial Park, officiated by his son Phil Hardin.

A native of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, he was a son of the late Auda A. of the Hardin Brothers Quartett and Viola Peters Hardin. He lived most of his life in Elizabethton. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he received a Purple Heart and other service related metals. He was an employee of American Bemberg Corporation and North American Rayon Corporation for 25 years. He was also an Electrician & Pipe Fitter and a millwright at various construction companies. Don was also a self-employed auto mechanic. He was a member of New Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an Infant son: Terry Hardin, three brothers: Charles, Danny Ray and Olan "Pie" Hardin and a sister: Alma "Bo" Williams.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years: Carol Groce Hardin. His Children: Randy Hardin & wife Darlene, Tim Hardin & wife Doris and Wendy Watson. ELIZABETHTON - Olan Eugene "Pie" Hardin, 74, Elizabethton went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a battle with Amyloidosis.

Born April 27, 1944 in Elizabethton to the late Auda & Viola Peters Hardin. He was a 1962 graduate of Unaka High School. Pie was employed at North American Rayon Corporation for several years and retired from Texas Instruments. He was a member of the Good Neighbor Quartet, The Thursday Night Boys and second generation Hardin Brothers Quartet.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Alma "Bo" Williams and two brothers, Charles & Dana Ray Hardin. He was an avid Tennessee Vol Fan.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years who cared for him Karen Taylor Hardin. One Daughter & Son-In-Law: Audra Brooke & Daryl Shanks, two sons & daughters-in-law: Wade & Sarah Hardin and Shane & Laura Hardin and the light of his life his grandchildren: Taylor Shanks, Kassidy Hall and Cooper Shanks. Samuel Leon "Buddy" Hardin, age 77, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness.
A lifelong native of Carter County, he was born in Elizabethton, TN, to the late Hobert and Sally (Alford) Hardin.
Sam attended Unaka High School and graduated from East Tennessee State University and The School of Banking of the South (Louisiana State University). He retired from Walters State Community College, Morristown, TN, where he was a supporter of the Walters State Senators.
Sam was an avid golfer and life-long Tennessee Volunteer fan, but above all he loved spending time with his family and supporting the athletic events of his grandchildren. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend loved dearly by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce "Peggy" (Holly) Hardin; and stepmother, Juanita (Cole) Hardin.
He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Hedge and husband, Bill, of Jupiter, FL, Lori Armstrong and husband, Mike, of Johnson City, TN; three grandchildren, Shannon Hedge, Cody Armstrong (Great Falls, MT) and Caleb Armstrong; sister, Dora Lynn Moneyhun, of Greeneville; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Cynthia Simmons, Morristown, TN.

Mr. Forbes was born September 4, 1951, in Johnson City and the son of the late Murphy & Edith Hughes Forbes. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Danny Joe Forbes and Ben Forbes.
He retired from CenturyLink after 39 years of service. He enjoyed making crafts, particularly walking sticks, researching genealogy, metal detecting, trout fishing and spending time with his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Janie Forbes; son, Bryan Forbes; grandchildren, Ashley Forbes and Justyn Forbes; sister, Edna Mooneyham (Brantley); and several nephews, nieces and close friends.

ELIZABETHTON - Mr. Fred "Sonny" Shoun, 78, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at Life Care Center of Gray, following an extended illness. He was born in Vivian, West Virginia, the son of the late Fred H. and Virginia Cannaday Shoun, and had lived most of his life in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. Mr. Shoun was a 1955 graduate of Unaka High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of American Legion Post # 49. He also held an associate degree in accounting and was retired from Raytheon Corporation where he worked for thirty-eight years. He loved to play music, he was a Christian, an ordained deacon and was a Sunday School teacher. He was also a founding member of the Carter County Humane Society. Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife of fifty-five years, Barbara Moody Shoun, of the home; a daughter, Ann Byrd and her husband, J.D. Murfreesboro, TN; a son, Gene Shoun and his wife, Katherine, Charlotte, NC; four granddaughters, Whitney Byrd, Reno, NV; Jessica Byrd, Bowling Green, KY; Sgt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Shoun was a 1955 graduate of Unaka High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of American Legion Post # 49. He also held an associate degree in accounting and was retired from Raytheon Corporation where he worked for thirty-eight years. He loved to play music, he was a Christian, an ordained deacon and was a Sunday School teacher. He was also a founding member of the Carter County Humane Society.

Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife of fifty-five years, Barbara Moody Shoun, of the home; a daughter, Ann Byrd and her husband, J.D. Murfreesboro, TN; a son, Gene Shoun and his wife, Katherine, Charlotte, NC; four granddaughters, Whitney Byrd, Reno, NV; Jessica Byrd, Bowling Green, KY; Sgt. Amanda White, (USAF), Langley Air Force Base, VA; Katie Cingel, Danville, VA; a sister, Virginia Coleman, and her husband, Richard, Elizabethton; special friends, Brenda and Darrell Cannon, Elizabethton; Jason and Sara Cox, Elizabethton; his beloved dog, Lulu and Lulu’s two doggie friends, Sidney and Sambo. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to honor the life of Mr. Shoun will be conducted on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, with Rev. Ray Colbaugh officiating. Music will be under the direction of his son, Gene Shoun and his granddaughter, Katie Cingel. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Tuesday prior to the service, or at the home at other times.

The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in the Garden of Freedom of Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Lynn Peters, Darrell Cannon, Jeff Oliver, Bill Crow, Donnie Dykes and Henry Shoun. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Huskins, Glen Shoun, Rich Coleman, Bob Cable, Leonard Febuary, Dr. Paul Knapp, Alan Self and Dr. Don Marshall. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard.

Fred married Barbara Faye Moody about 1960. Barbara (daughter of George Ellis Moody and Della Mae Cable) was born on 12 Mar 1942 in Mitchell County, , , North Carolina; died on 25 Aug 2021 in Carter County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Happy Valley Memorial Park, , Carter County, Tennessee. Jerry was the son of Fred Hatfield Shoun and Virginia Cannaday Shoun. Jerry died as the result of a motorcycle accident, near Redmond, Oregon. Jerry is survived by his wife, Connie and four children: Tammy, Keith, Dallas and Kathy Shoun.
