    William Harrison Hughes Jr., 90, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at Hillview Health Center.
    William was born on July 23, 1928 to the late William Hughes Sr. and Nettie Garland Hughes. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Cook; a sister, Leona Hazelwood; and an infant son, Sidney Kip Hughes.
    William was a Millwright by trade. He was of the Baptist Faith.
    His family left to cherish his memory are his wife of 36 years, Shirley Goode Hughes; daughter, Paula Jo Bowman and husband Jeff, and a son; step-daughters, Mary Whitehead, Becky Powers and husband Jerry, Misty Babb and husband Greg and Nerissa Stout; a step-son, Mike Stout; four grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Lee Babb, Thelma Arnold and Phyllis Sue Sardi; and his best friend, Roy Gunter of Pelion, S.C.
    There will be a gathering of family and friends at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roger Stockton officiating.
