    Charlie N. Sheets, 87, 289 Jim Range Road, Jonesborough, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at the residence.

    He was a native of Carter County and was a son of the late Benjamin and Lula Greer Sheets. Mr. Sheets had worked for Tauscher Roofing and in construction most of his life. He attended Living Word Church of God in Gray.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Hicks Sheets, in 1998; a brother, and four sisters; and his best buddy, his dog, Bear.

    Survivors include three daughters, Pansy Carver, of Greeneville, Lori Castell and her husband, Michael, of Jonesborough, and Pennie Watts and husband, Lonnie, of Gray; a son, Charlie "Buddy" Sheets and his wife, Mildred, of Jonesborough; four brothers, Frank, Kenneth, George and Glenn Sheets; sisters, Betty Cox, Brenda Pritchard and special sister, Mary Murray; ten grandchildren, Tracy Greene, Joni Price, Samantha Barnett, Ben Sheets, Debra Barkley, Connie Lowe, Christine Mounds, Angela Hale, Tim Carver and special granddaughter, Jessica Watts; eighteen great-grandchildren; a special niece, Peggy Hicks; special friend, Earl Barnett; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Funeral services for Mr. Sheets will be conducted at 7:00 PM Friday, April 19, 2013, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home, 800 E. Watauga Avenue, Johnson City, with Rev. Steve Guinn and Rev. Doug Wagner officiating.

He was a Watauga Academy graduate and received his Master's Degree from East Tennessee State University.
    Mr. Potter was a former summer employee of the U.S. Forestry Department, Co-Chairman of the Miss Watauga Valley Pageant and a Charter member of the Roan Mountain Citizens Club. He was instrumental in starting the Roan Mountain Naturalist Rally.
    He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy Seabees.
    Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2002 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home.
    Graveside services and interment were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2002at Happy Valley Memorial Park.

    Hazel was born on December 29, 1912, in the Elk Mills community of Carter County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Alvin Stout and Fannie Andrews Stout.

    On August 16, 1930, Hazel married Harry Shultz McCloud. They had six children: Peggy, Bud, Derl, Jerry, Bill and Jackie. She "loved her children and we knew it," said Derl.

    The entire family worked on the farm and helped with household chores, and they did not have a lot of leisure time. However, they owned a hand-cranked phonograph and listened to the radio. Hazel also enjoyed reading detective stories she ordered through the mail, and she taught herself to play the piano. All the family were members of Cobbs Creek Baptist Church.

    After the children were grown, Harry and Hazel loved to take long drives on Sundays; they would drive as far as they could in one day and make it back home. They often drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

    HAMPTON - Walter France Andrews, Sr., age 92 of Hampton, TN, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023. He was born in Butler, TN on June 22, 1930 to the late Wheeler and Elizabeth Finney Andrews. Walter was raised in the Cobbs Creek and Bunton Town communities.

    In 1955 he married Betty ‘Noletta’ Campbell and began 67 years of marriage and family. He found work in Akron, OH with Akron Plating Company. After seven years in Ohio, he returned his family “home” to Tennessee where they settled in Hampton. Walter worked for Wright and Lopez Construction, Hanley Structures and North American Rayon. In the late 1970’s he began working for East Tennessee State University in Facilities. Over twenty years he worked as a carpenter, plumber and painter. He enjoyed his work at ETSU and made many friends across campus. His three daughters, also ETSU employees, are still met with the question, “How’s your Dad?”

    Walter loved golf and was always the team designated putter. He taught his sons the game and loved traveling to Myrtle Beach with them and a host of friends for friendly weekend tournaments. These men loved Walter, and everyone wanted “Pappy” on their team.

    As a child, Walter attended many singing schools and learned the shape note method of music. He became a tenor signer at a young age. Later he became a great bass singer and sang with several local gospel groups and friends including Gib Hardin and Mack Holloway. He was song leader at Pearce Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, where he was a member, for many years.

    In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by daughters Theresa Marlow, Johnson City, Patti Marlow (Randy) Elizabethton, Robin Grindstaff (Edward) Elizabethton; sons Jeff Andrews (Cindy Hopson) Johnson City, Walter Andrews, Jr (Karla) Hampton. His greatest joys were his ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers James and Lloyd ‘Pete’ Andrews of Elizabethton; brother-in-law Bearl Campbell (Pat) Butler, sister-in-law Brenda Schenck (Don) Johnson City, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

    Beloved son, Robert Paul Andrews, proceeded Walter in death on September 18, 2022. In addition to his parents, Walter was also proceeded in death by brothers, Perry, D.L. and Claude Andrews and sisters Maude Cummins, Tudy Wallace, Mary Cable and Ruth Andrews.

    Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Abundant Christian Living Community for the wonderful care they gave our husband and father during his brief stay.

    Walter was a solid citizen, hard worker and a great Dad. He enjoyed life. He will be greatly missed but we know that he and Robert are now rejoicing in Heaven.

    A celebration of life service for Walter France Andrews, Sr. will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Greg Largent officiating. A eulogy will be offered by his son, Jeff Andrews. Music will be under the direction of his granddaughter, Tanika Hardin. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday.

    Mr. Harvey Tester, age 85, of Elizabethton, TN passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 in the Johnson City Medical Center following a sudden illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Earl and Nettie Andrews Tester. Mr. Tester worked for thirty-two years as a maintenance supervisor at Great Lakes Research Corporation. He was a member of Elk River Baptist Church and attended Doe River Baptist Church. Mr. Tester was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He loved country and bluegrass music and performed with several local bands by playing guitar and singing. He also loved animals, especially dogs, and was currently serving as the president of the Carter County Humane Society.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll Tester; an infant sister and his step-mother, Nattie Tester. Survivors include his wife, Stella Main Tester, of the Home; a daughter, Penny White and husband Robert, Elizabethton; three step-grandchildren, Candi Sieiro and husband Anthony, Greensboro, NC, Bobbi Rena Tittle, Johnson City and Michael White, Nashville; two step-great-grandchildren, Walt Tittle III and Lindsey Tittle, both of Johnson City and four sisters-in-law, RoseMary Tester, Ohio, Mary Jo Laws and husband H.D. "Sonny", Butler, Edith Finney, Elizabethton and Louise Main, Butler.     Earl enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 18, and devoted 4 years to serving our country. After retirement from the armed forces, Earl returned to Carter County to pursue his career, and natural talent as a Diesel Mechanic. Earl was a 'Good Ol' Country Boy" in every sense of the term. It didn't matter if Earl was fishing, shooting guns, or driving around enjoying the natural beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, he was always enjoying life's simplest pleasures.

    He is survived by his only child who was his pride and joy, Amanda Thrift also known as Brute or Bae throughout her childhood years; his former spouse, Cindy Chesser; five brothers, M.D. Chesser, Robert Benfield, Dale Benfield, Alan Benfield, and Danny Ray Benfield; six sisters, Peggy Hicks, Unise Hicks, Louse Blevins, Connie Henry, Willma Benfield, and Mary Sparks, who all reside in East Tennessee.

    Earl will continue to be loved and forever missed by his family, friends, and beloved cat, Noodles.

    Pansy's faith carried her through life and all the trials and tribulations it had to offer. She gained her strength from the Lord.

    A loving mother, mamaw, sister and friend. Pansy spent many years living in the country, working side by side with her family on their farm. She showed tremendous strength and instilled these qualities in her children during long days spent in the tobacco and hay fields.

    She was a selfless, loving mother and mamaw who sacrificed everything for family. She had a passion for gardening, canning, and cooking. Many people knew her from Gage's Market and the Buc Store in Boone's Creek where she worked for many years.

    Pansy adored her grandchildren and spent countless hours loving them. She will be missed terribly by her family and friends, but leaves a legacy of love for all that knew her.

    The family would like to thank the staff at Franklin Woods Community Hospital for always caring for our Mom with love and respect.

    Pansy was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Sylvia Hicks Sheets.

    Surviving are his three children, Angel Crawley and husband Kevin of Nebo, Martha "Sissy" Mitschke and husband Robert of Connelly Springs, and Freddie Sheets of the home.     He was co-owner of Jones and Church Farms. Mr. Church attended Seviers Methodist Church.

    He was a member of the Unicoi Masonic Lodge #681 F&AM and Jericho Shrine Temple.

    Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, David Church.

    He leaves behind to cherish his memories two sons, Michael Church and wife, Rosaelia, Gregory Church and wife, Amy all of Unicoi; one step- daughter, Candy Coffee, Jonesborough; one adopted daughter, Carmen Coffee, Jonesborough; one sister, Blanquita Miller, Unicoi; five grandchildren: Samuel Church, Carina Church, Joshua Church, Lacy Church and Caleb Church. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    JONESBOROUGH - Glenda Dawn Trivette Peters, 77, Jonesborough, died January 8, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.

    Dawn was born in the Poga community of Carter County to the late Linzy and Mary Jane Potter Trivette. Dawn loved genealogy, photography, gardening, birdwatching, traveling, and collecting books and antiques. Along with her husband of 60 years, Jackie Dean Peters, she wrote the book Images of America: Carter County. Dawn was a coauthor of the book Carter County and Its People. She served as president of the Watauga Historical Association and was a leader in the restoration and maintenance of Green Hill Cemetery in Elizabethton.

    In addition to her parents, Dawn is preceded in death by a brother, Prentice "Bo" Trivette; her maternal grandparents, Peter Hamilton and Zady Andrews Potter; and her paternal grandparents, Joel and Mary Ann Bunton Trivette.

    In addition to her husband, Dawn is survived by her children, Danny (Karen) Peters of Lexington, KY, and Deanne (Brad) Dale of Knoxville; two granddaughters, Rebecca Peters and Lauren Peters of Lexington, KY; two sisters, Rosemary Mowrey and Dianne Garland, both of Mountain City; a special sister-in-love, Patsy Treadway Trivette, Elizabethton; and a special nephew, Prentice (Larissa) Trivette II, Elizabethton; several other nieces and nephews as well as many friends.

    In accordance with Dawn's wishes, no funeral service will be held; a celebration of life will be held to honor her at a later date.

    Carolyn Potter Williams, 81, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 after a brief illness in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Carolyn was born in Roan Mountain, TN and resided in Surgoinsville, TN. She graduated from Cloudland High School and attended college at East Tennessee State University and Milligan Christian College. Carolyn proudly taught for 34 years in Hawkins County, TN. She was a member of First Christian Church in Rogersville, TN and attended Elk Park Christian Church in Elk Park, NC. Carolyn was a charter member and treasurer of the Rogersville Civitan Club. She loved to travel and go on any type of road trip and also loved to read mysteries. She was a loving mother of 3 daughters and Momaw to one special granddaughter. Carolyn will be greatly missed by her family, friends and loved ones.
    Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Williams; parents, James W. Potter and Edna VonCannon Potter; father-in-law, Arnold L. Williams; mother-in-law, Marga B. Williams and brother-in-law, Robert L. Williams.
    Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Judith Williams, Robin Williams Watlington (Gary), and Sonya Williams; granddaughter, Skyler Vess; sister-in-law, Linda Ollis (Farrell); brother-in-law, Edward Williams; niece, Shannon Gibson; nephews, Brian Whitson and Shawn Whitson and several cousins.
    A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm in the chapel of East Tennessee Funeral Home located at 2630 Hwy 75 Blountville, TN 37617. A funeral service will follow at 2:00pm. Interment will follow the service in East Tennessee Cemetery.

    It is with deep sad-ness that we an-nounce the pass-ing of our be-loved hus-band, father, and grand-father, Glen (Bud) McCloud, of But-ler, TN, who, at home and sur-rounded by his lov-ing fam-ily, passed on April 4, 2015.
    Glen, 81, was born on Au-gust 13, 1933, and lived the ma-jor-ity of his life in But-ler.
    Glen was mar-ried to Jewel Dean (Ward) McCloud, on Au-gust 4, 1955. They were mar-ried 59 years. Glen, along-side his wife, raised four fine chil-dren. He is sur-vived by his wife and his chil-dren; son, Tim (wife, Gaye); daugh-ter, Judy (McCloud) Lam-bert (hus-band, Ed-die); son, Randy (wife, Bar-bara); and son, Steve (wife, Laura). He is also sur-vived by his sis-ter, Jackie Warden; two broth-ers, Jerry (and wife, Mar-ga-ret) and Derl (and wife, Gla-dys); as well as his pre-cious grand-chil-dren and great grand-chil-dren; and many, nieces, neph-ews and other spe-cial fam-ily mem-bers and friends.
    Glen was pre-ceded in death by his mother, Ha-zel Marie (Stout) McCloud; and his father, Harry S. McCloud; his sis-ter, Peggy McCloud Jump; and his brother, Bill McCloud.
    Glen attended Hampton High School. He was a decorated veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from 19501959.
    For many years, Glen was the owner and operator of McCloud's Automotive in Elizabethton. He was also employed as Master Automotive Technician by Dennis Powell Chrysler Plymouth and Carl Gregory in Johnson City. Mr. McCloud retired from Carl Gregory in 2002, and then traveled across the country and internationally with two of his sons working as a millwright from 20022008.
    In his spare time Glen enjoyed reading, watching college football and playing board games with family and friends.
    Glen, a man of integrity, will always be remembered through his legacy of honesty, generosity, dedication and fair dealing. His witty sense of humor brightened the lives of his family and everyone who knew him.
    Family was of utmost importance to Glen. He genuinely and deeply loved his family. Throughout his lifetime he made opportunities to share special time, and make cherished, lifetime memories with his family.
    Glen demonstrated commitment and service as a leader in his church. He served our Lord and Savior with devotion through his unwavering dedication to Butler Baptist Church as a church leader and as Chairman of the Deacons for many years.
    The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton.
    The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Daniel Woods and Rev. Derl McCloud officiating.
    Interment will follow at Butler Memorial Cemetery, Butler, TN. Music will be provided by Rev. Daniel Woods and Teresa Chaplain. Military Honors will be provided by the Johnson County Honor Guard. Active Pallbearers will be Sons & Grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be Derl McCloud, Jerry McCloud, Larry Smith, Chuck Whitney and Vaughn Potter.
    The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff of Fersenius Dialysis Center, Mountain City, The Johnson County Cancer Society, Members of the Butler Ruritan Club and his church family.

    Dallas G. “Jerry” McCloud, age 83, passed away on June 20, 2022 at Watauga Medical Center. He was born on August 27, 1938 to the late Harry S. McCloud and Hazel M. Stout McCloud. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Jump and brothers, Bill McCloud, Derl McCloud, and Bud McCloud.

    Jerry was raised in Butler, TN and sang with the McCloud Family for several years. Also, him and his wife Margaret delivered mobile meals in Creston, NC for many years. Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force.

    Those left to cherish his memories include the love of his life, best friend, and loving wife of 56 years, Margaret Osborne McCloud; sister, Jackie Warden; sisters-in-law, Jewel Dean McCloud, Jenny Osborne; brother-in-law, Raymond Osborne and wife Mary and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Mountain City Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Preacher Ricky Campbell officiating. The graveside service and burial will follow the funeral at Sunset Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Johnson County Honor Guard.
