    ISAAC N. BOWERS FUNERAL FRIDAY
    Isaac N. Bowers, 90, father of Mayor J. C. Bowers, died at his home route 2 yesterday evening at 6:30 p.m.
    Mr. Bowers was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Chrisley Bowers and Martha Hathaway Bowers. He was a member of the Baptist church at Hunter.
    Besides Mayor Bowers, he is survived by one other son, Pat Bowers; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Berry, Mrs. Bessie Bowers, Mrs. Flora Chambers, all of Elizabethton, and Mrs. Nanny Murray of Seminole, Tex.; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, A. B. Bowers and T. B. Bowers.
    Funeral services will be conducted from the home of Mayor Bowers, 209 Riverside Drive, Friday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. Harry Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Hunter Cemetery.
    Active pallbearers and flower bearers will be selected from friends.
    The body will be returned to the home of Mayor Bowers Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Roy Hathaway Funeral Home in charge.

    ELIZABETHTON — Ira "Glenn" Bowers, age 90, 908 Nave Street, Elizabethton, devoted wife, loving mother, caring grandmother and friend has entered into a new city, and a new life, with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. While saddened to see her go and longing for her to stay, there were other eyes watching her coming and other voices to take up the glad shout: Here she comes! Mrs. Bowers died Thursday, January 8, at Hermitage Health Center following an extended illness.

    A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Brown L. and Bessie M. Bowers. She was a member of Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Crumley Bowers; two brothers, Robert Carl Bowers, Millard Filmore Bowers; one sister, Laura Belle Bowers; one step-son, Linard Skyler Bowers; one step-daughter, Ella Mae Buckles.

    Survivors include one sister, Gladys Cole, Roan Mountain; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Pauline Taylor, Elizabethton, Pansy and Bobby Rouse, Elizabethton, Oma Jean and Bobbie Woods, Elizabethton; one step-daughter, Mary Nidiffer, Elizabethton; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.

    The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2004, at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Ray Stocton, Rev. Steve Burleson and Rev. Rick Price officiating. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, at Caldwell Springs Cemetery with Rev. Stephen Tolley and Rev. Mark Potter officiating. Active pallbearers will be Eddie Peters, Guy Sams, Ricky Williams, Dale Roberson, Stephen Tolley and Mark Potter. Honorary pallbearers will be Odell Bowers, Bobby Woods Jr., friends and her church family. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Hermitage Health Center for their loving and gentle care of mother for the last seven years. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home chapel at 1:15 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery.

    Geraldine Bowers Baker, age 88, of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at her residence. A native of Elizabethton, Jerri was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Joe C. and Victoria Ellis Bowers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Frank Baker; her three sisters and brothers-in-law, June and Johnny Luker, Ruth and Ed Alexander, and Jean and Bill Curtis; and just recently a nephew, Crawford Alexander.

    Jerri loved to read, paint, travel (having traveled to all 50 states), and sing. She was a 1947 graduate of Elizabethton High School and attended Carson-Newman College, where she met the love of her life, William Frank Baker, Jr. She later graduated from ETSU in 1972 with a degree in education. Upon her graduation, Jerri taught a year in the Carter County School System. Additionally, she taught first grade at Harold McCormack School in Elizabethton for 15 years.

    Jerri was a life-long member of First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, helped with vacation bible school and taught a children's Sunday school class.

    Those left to cherish her memory are her much loved daughter, Sarah: eleven nieces and nephews; their children and grandchildren.

    A graveside service to celebrate the life of Geraldine Bowers Baker will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Todd Hallman of First Baptist Church, officiating. Music is under the direction of Nancy Earnest. Active pallbearers will be Ed and Joe Alexander, Chris Luker, David and Andy Moon, Ben Williams and Gary Elliot. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Jerri's Sunday school class and Bill Armstrong. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 1:15 PM on Thursday, to go in procession.

    Edith Pearl Potter, 86, of Butler, Tenn., and formerly of Clayton, Del., went home comfortably to be with her Lord on Monday, March 28, 2011, at her residence. She was born on February 14, 1925 to the late Logan and Laura Bell Bowers Crowe. In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Fred Potter; three sons, James C. Potter, William E. Potter and Edward F. Potter; and a grandson, Mark Jewell. Edith was a member of Dyson Grove Baptist Church.


    Survivors include three daughters, Edith Bell Datz and husband Austin of Butler, Tenn., Ruth Marie Crouch and husband William of Elkton, Md., and Lisa Ann Hazlett of Newark, Del.; a son-in-law, Robert Hazlett of Oxford, Pa.; three sons, Marshall Potter of Butler, Tenn., Robert Wayne Potter of Butler, Tenn., and Donald R. Potter and wife Sandra of Smyrna, Del.; grandchildren, Michael Jewell, David Jewell, Donald Potter, Dwayne Potter, Tony Potter, Brian Potter, Melinda Dugger, Donna K. Burns, Linda Potter, Bobbie Joe Feltner, Robert W. Potter Jr., Randy Lee Potter, Shawn Crouch, Brian Crouch, Crystal Hazlett and Cassie Hazlett; many, many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friends, Sheila Kennedy of Doe Valley, Tenn., and Christopher Wade of Newark, Del.; and many more special friends.


    The family received friends from 10 a.m. Thursday, March 31, to 10 a.m. Friday, April 1, at the home, 653 Dry Hill Road, Butler, Tenn., where the body will lie in state. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Delaware Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Bear, Del.

    On Sunday, March 5, 2017, a golden heart stopped beating when Mrs. Pauline Taylor, 83, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord. Mrs. Taylor was a daughter of the late Roby and Ira Glenn Bowers Danner and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron "Chig" Taylor, two step sisters, Mag Nidiffer and Ella Buckles and a step-brother, Skyler Bowers.

    Mrs. Taylor was retired from Southeastern Apparel and was a member of Moore's Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She loved to shop with her family, dine out, and especially enjoyed the holidays.

    Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Barbara Sams, and her husband, Guy, Elizabethton; Judy Peters, Morganton, NC; Patty Glover, Elizabethton, two sisters, Oma Jean Woods, Pansy Rouse, both of Elizabethton; grandchildren, Tracie Stout, Kim Browning, Pepper Dyer, Ginger Glover, Ashley Garland; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Townson, Jonathan Townson, Justin Browning, Austin Dyer, Jessica Browning, and a special great-granddaughter, Haley Glover, whom she raised and loved very much. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

    A service to honor the life of Mrs. Taylor will be conducted on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Steve Burleson and Rev. Bill Greer officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 11:00 AM– Noon on Wednesday prior to the service, or at the home of her daughter, Barbara Sams at other times.

    The Committal and Entombment will follow the funeral service in the Mausoleum of Faith, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Daniel Garland, Heath Browning, Justin Browning, David Dyer, Austin Dyer, Larry Absher, Aaron Potter and Mark Burke.
