    HAMPTON - John Garland Lewis, 81, Hampton, passed away Monday, January 16, 2023 at his residence. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Paul Edward and Beulah Lewis. He was a 1959 graduate of Hampton High School and Elizabethton Business College. He served in the United States Army in Korea from 1959 until 1961. He was owner/operator of Hampton Tire Company for 45 years. John was a former Carter County Commissioner for 12 years serving not only the people in the 6th district (Hampton, Poga, Little Milligan and Valley Forge), but also the people in the surrounding communities. He loved people. He was known as the Mayor of Hampton. John was a member of Victory Baptist Church and also attended Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Shelton, Randy and Paul Lewis.

    Survivors include his wife of 47 years: Peggy White Lewis. Three Daughters: Kim (Doug) Vines, Hampton, Joni Kaye (Jonathan) Sams, Elizabethton and Juli Renee (Josh) Lewis, Watauga. Four Grandchildren: Brett Allen Cable, Alana Maye Range, Annie Pearl Lewis, and Hunter Jayden Lee Sams. One Step-Grandson: Jaden Burem. Two Sisters: Nadine Million, Chattanooga and Rose Smith, Johnson City. Three Brothers: Jim (Susan) Lewis, Kingsport, Wayne Lewis, Bluff City and Pat (Linda) Lewis, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews.

    A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2023 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mark Fowler, Rev. Jerry Honeycutt and Rev. Jack Lyons officiating. Music will be provided by his daughter: Juli “Blue” Lewis, and Rev. Larry Montgomery. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2023 in the Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic Section) with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating. Active Pallbearers will be Doug Vines, Josh Lewis, Jonathan Sams, Steve Lewis, Jack Whitehead, Shane Lewis, Brett Cable and Jason Carden. Honorary Pallbearers will be: John D. Snyder, Lawrence Hodge, Harold Dugger, Roy Livingston, Ray Lyons, Rev. Buddy Street, Rev. Bobby Stout, Larry Tipton, J.L. Norris, Richard Norris, Jackie Cable, J.D. Smith and Bill Shoun.

    Blannie was born on September 16, 1933, in Cardens Bluff, Tennessee, to James Clarence and Lucille Shaw Ritchie, and went to be with her Lord on December 7, 2022, in Longview, Texas.
    Blannie loved visiting and working with people where she never seemed to meet a stranger. She worked with her church at home and did foreign mission work in the Philippines and Brazil. She stayed in contact with the refugees and youth she helped. Blannie was a faithful member of Glenwood Baptist Church and a former member of East Mountain Baptist Church. She worked in the cafeteria at Pinetree ISD until her retirement.
    Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Phyllis Constantine (Jim), Douglas Sams (Deborah), David Sams, and Madalyn Sams Gunn; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
    She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, F. D. "Sam" Sams; sister, Shirley Williams; brother, Herbert Ritchie; and grandson, Brandon Sams.
    Pallbearers are Gordon Gunn, David Sams Jr., Daniel Sams, Luke Sams, Ben Sams, Zech Sams, Jason Gunn, Martin Sams, Austin Sams, Carlos Sams.
    Honorary pallbearers are Jim Constantine, Jim Williams, and Jimmy Williams.

    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late James & Lucille Shaw Ritchie. Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Hampton High School. She was a retired employee of American Air Filter. She was a member of the Unaka Baptist Church.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: Herbert Ritchie.
    Shirley loved to play games, work puzzles and spend time with her grandchildren.
    Survivors include her husband of 59 years: James "Jim" Williams; A Son & Daughter-in-law: James "Jimmy" & Jackie Williams, Johnson City; Five Grandchildren: J.D. Williams and wife, Tracy, Drew Williams and wife, Crystal, Grant Meyer and his wife, Ariana, Kyle Zimmerman and Austin Zimmerman; Two Great Granddaughters: Sadie Williams and Emilia Meyer; One Great Grandson: Jeramiah Thomas; One Sister: Blannie Sams, of Texas; Several nieces & nephews.
    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Sherrill Dunn and Rev. Walker Roberson officiating.
    Graveside Service and Interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Rev. Sherrill Dunn. Active Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Earl Campbell, Don & Jack Williams, Dr. J. & Staff.
