    A native of Carter County, Mrs. Proffitt was a Carter County native and a daughter of the late James M. and Cassie Grindstaff Oliver. She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
    Mrs. Proffitt was a retired employee of Mor-Flo Industries, Johnson City. She was a member of New Testament Baptist Church.
    Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Wayne O'Dell, Jonesborough; three sons and two-daugthers-in-law, Edwin and Linda Proffitt and Dwight and Regina Proffitt, all of Elizabethton, and James L. Proffitt and special friend Cathy Lewis, Johnson City; one sister, Ruby Oliver, Elizabethton; one brother and sister-in-law, Louie and Shelby Oliver, Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Oliver, Elizabethton; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

    PROFFITT -- Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Oliver Proffitt, 79, 710 E. 2nd Street (Courtyard Apartments), Elizabethton, who died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Bill Allison officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Ensor Cemetery with Pastor Dale Greenwell officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Monday, will be Daniel Proffitt, Thomas Proffitt, Robbie Stanley, David Proffitt, Leonard Proffitt and Dawson O'Dell. Honorary pallbearers will be Kyle Nidiffer, Eugene Nidiffer and Benson Estep.

    Ruby Lois Oliver, 89, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
    A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Murray James and Loretta Cassie Grindstaff Oliver.
    Ruby was retired from American Air Filter. She loved to read her Bible and was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church. During her stay there she was known as the Mayor of Courtyard Apartments.
    Survivors include several nieces, nephews, several great-great-nieces and nephews and several great-great-great-nieces and nephews, whom she was a second mother to; a special great-great-niece and special helper, Nikki Hyatt; and also her special friends and neighbors at Courtyard Apartments.
    Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Eric Heaton officiating. Interment followed the service. Pallbearers were selected from family and friends.

    Died:
    James L. Proffitt, 78, of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away of natural causes. He was born May 1, 1943 to the late Fred Proffitt and Eva Proffitt.
    James served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve and was a 1961 graduate of Unaka High School. He was of the Baptist faith.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dan Proffitt.
    Those left to cherish his memory are his special friend of 30 years, Kathryn Lewis; two children, Wayne Lenard Proffitt and wife Diane and Brenda Adams and husband Larry; two brothers, Dwight Proffitt and wife Regina and Edwin Proffitt and wife Linda; three sisters, Diane O’Dell and husband Wayne, Marion Osborne and Grace Davis; and his step-mother, Hazel Proffitt. Four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The family will be holding a private service at another date.

    Bobby L. Oliver, 70, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at his residence. He was the son of the late James and Rosa Lee Dunn Oliver. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Oliver. Bobby was a member of Poplar Ridge Christian Church.
    Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 48 years, Connie Cole Oliver, of the home; a daughter, Rebecca Lubag of Elizabethton; two sisters, Wanda Elkins (Joe) of Asheville, N.C., and Brenda Payne (Ray) of Weaverville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Joshua and Cassidy Lubag of Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Peggy Oliver of Elizabethton; and his angel and kidney donor, Destiny Baker-Davidson, Big Stone Gap, Va.
    A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 8, at Richardson Cemetery with Mr. Evan Wolfe and Mr. Bob Allen officiating. Music will be under the direction of Karalee Sprinkle. Active pallbearers will be Dean Buckles, Eugene Grindstaff, Joe Carrier, Kurt Johnson, Tim Cobb, Scott Elkins, Jeremiah Payne, Timothy Payne and Noah Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Arnold, Joe Elkins, Ray Payne, Dawson Grindstaff, Dwight Proffitt, Lester Perkins, Melvin Myers and the Gentlemen of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class of Poplar Ridge Christian Church. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery at 2:20 p.m. Sunday. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amedysis Hospice and special friends, Kurt and Linda Johnson, Tim and Karen Cobb and Katie Coppola for the love and care shown to Bobby during his illness.
