Mrs. Margaret Stephens Manning, age 91, of Elizabethton, TN, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late William Warren (W.W.) and Celia Belle Teague Stephens. Mrs. Manning had built airplanes for the U.S. Navy and also worked at Yates Remnant Shop for twenty years. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. Mrs. Manning was a member of First Christian Church, Elizabethton, and the Fidelis Sunday School Class at First Christian Church. She worked in the Church nursery for several years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Cartha Chesser, Oscar Stephens, Ida Pate, William Stephens, Clara Kyte, Laura Kyte, Harold Stephens, Hazel Vanhuss, John Stephens, and an infant sister, Mary Ruth Stephens. Survivors include her husband of fifty-nine years, Paul T. Manning, of the home; a daughter, Paula Manning, Elizabethton; a grandson, Marc Gibson and wife, Rachel, Charlotte, NC; a great-grandson, Ethan Gibson, Charlotte, NC; and special friends, Teresa Norris, Lanny Norris, Whitney Norris, Sara, Laban and Rilyn Propst and Randy and Patsy Tadlock. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Margaret Stephens Manning will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, September 21, 2013, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Dr. Don Marshall, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Gene Estep. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00-3:00 P.M. on Saturday prior to the service or at the residence at other times. Mary Lou Livingston, 83, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord unexpectedly on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at her home. Mary Lou was born in Elizabethton to the late Charles and Anna Beryl Stevens. In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by four brothers, James Foster Stevens, Billy Dean Stevens, Archer Nelson Stevens and her twin, Joseph Ray Stevens.
Mary Lou was a homemaker. She attended Zion Baptist Church and also attended Gap Creek Christian Church.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 56 years, Richard Livingston, of the home; her brother, Lee Roy Stevens (Marlene) of Marysville, Wash.; and her sisters, Hattie Belle Poarch and Peggy Stevens, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Richard Earl Livingston, 88 of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Johnson City Medical Center. Richard was born in Carter County to the late Worley Livingston and Belle Angel Livingston. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Stevens Livingston, and a sister, Charlotte Frye.
Richard enjoyed fishing, pitching horseshoes and playing corn hole.

HAMPTON - Mr. Billy D. Stevens, age 78, of Hampton, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born in Elizabethton and was a son of the late Charles Ray and Anne Beryl Archer Stevens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Ray Stevens, James Foster Stevens, Archer Nelson Stevens and a brother-in-law, Clyde Poarch. Mr. Stevens was of the Freewill Baptist Faith.

Those left to cherish his memory include a brother, Lee Roy Stevens (Marlene), of Seattle, WA; three sisters, Hattie Bell Poarch, of Elizabethton; Peggy Stevens, of Hampton; Mary Lou Livingston (Richard), of Elizabethton; a special niece, Sue Pierce, of Elizabethton; and a special friend, Lee Garland of Hampton. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends in from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, or at the home at other times.

A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, September, 12, 2018, at 12:00 PM in the Johnson-Roanview Cemetery in Roan Mountain. Nan Roberts Brummitt, 80, of Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at Erwin Health Care Center.
A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Bert and Cordie Simerly Roberts.
Nan was a graduate of Hampton High School and was an insurance agent for Independent Life for several years. She was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Brummitt and wife LeAnna, Hampton, and Jeff Brummitt, Elizabethton; a grandson, Justin Delph; three granddaughters, Maggie Brummitt, Michaela Brummitt and Kortnee Brummitt; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services Nan Roberts Brummitt will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Paul Seefelt officiating. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, in the Captain Nelson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

ELIZABETHTON - Conley Miller, 79, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at the Waters of Roan Highlands, Roan Mountain after an extended illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Wiley & Pearl Simerly Miller. Conley served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was retired due to disability from the City of Johnson City. Conley was a member and Deacon of Fairview Free Will Baptist Church, Hampton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Seven Brothers: J.B., Lee, Earl, Don, Dalton, Thurman and Kail. He loved to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Patricia (Pat) Tolley Miller. His Daughter & Son-in-law: Ginger Kay & Hobert Wilson. Two Grandchildren: Josh (Misty) Branch and Matthew. Two Great Grandchildren: Malachi and Jada. One Step-Grand Daughter: Deandrea Wilson. Two Sisters: Mable Stepp, Hampton and Barbara Novack of Illinois. Several nieces & nephews.

HAMPTON - Richard "Arnold" Hughes, age 76, of Hampton went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 2, 2018 from the Hermitage Health Center.

Arnold was born in Carter County to the late David N. Hughes, Sr. and Dealie Stephens Hughes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Flo Hughes; two brothers, Robert Lee Hughes and David Hughes, Jr.; and a sister, Sophina Ware.

Arnold was a loving husband, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and a lifelong friend to many. He graduated from Hampton High School, where he played basketball and was part of the 1960 basketball team that won the State Championship. Arnold retired from General Motors as an assembly worker and was a member of Sunset Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and as an assistant Sunday school teacher of the adult class. Arnold loved fishing and was an avid fisherman. He was also very devoted to his church and his church family.

Morelock Hughes, of the home; three daughters, Brenda Morelock, of Elizabethton, Amy Gouge and husband Jason, of Hampton and Gina Hatfield, of Crossville, TN; a son, Rob Rhea and wife Jama, of Auburn, IN; a sister, Joan Hathaway, of Old Fort, NC; his grandchildren, Joshua Crumley, Megan Slagle and husband Bo, Gabriel Gouge, Charles Baines, Breely Taylor and husband Todd, T.J. Dennis Stevens, 76, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at his residence. He was born December 14, 1945 in Elizabethton to the late Henry Clay and Geneieve Campbell Stevens.
Dennis was a graduate of Hampton High School and was retired from Sprint Telephone Company. He loved to hunt. He had attended the Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Louise Whitehead Stevens, who passed away June 5, 2021, and a brother, Kenneth Stevens.
Survivors include four sisters, Louise Barnett, Johnson City, Geraldine Tolley of Ohio, Darlene Tolley, Hampton, and Aileen (Ronald) Street, Roan Mountain; two brothers, Roger Stevens, Hampton, and Dale Stevens, Unicoi; and several nieces and nephews.

ELIZABETHTON - Donnie Murphy, age 71, of Elizabethton, passed away with her family members by her side on Wednesday, December 18, 2018 at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Donnie was born in Carter County to the late Arnold and Goldie Hyder Wallace. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Wallace.

Donnie was a loving wife and mother and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She retired as an administrative assistant and loved antiques, collectables, traveling and working in her yard tending her flowers.

Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 35 years, Robert J. Murphy, Sr., of the home; three sons, David A. "Thumper" Murphy, Robert J. "Robby" Murphy, Jr. and Kenneth P. "Butch" Murphy and wife Jennifer, all of Elizabethton; two daughters, Judy Ann Britton, of Granite City, IL and Sandra H.
