    ERWIN - Ethel Church Harris, 92, Erwin, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019, at her residence.

    Ethel was born in Butler, TN to the late W.E. and Minnie McQueen Slemp.

    Ethel worked for 36 years as the head of housekeeping at Johnson City Medical Center.

    She was a member of First Christian Church in Johnson City.

    In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by: one brother, Glenn Slemp; and two sisters, Fern Honeycutt and Blanche Dugger.

    Survivors include: her husband of 20 years, Wayne Harris; one son, Ron Harris and his wife Sandy; one sister-in-law, Mozell Maloney; three nieces, Carol Scranton, Martha Courtner and Betty Renfro; three nephews, Edwin Dugger, Greg Slemp and Keith Slemp; and several great nieces and nephews.

    Special thank you to all the staff at Caris Healthcare, you all are very honorable people.

    The family of Ethel Church Harris will receive friends from 1 PM until 2 PM Monday, August 12, 2019, at Morris-Baker. The funeral will follow at 2 PM with Dr. Nikki Hunt officiating. Family and friends will go in procession to Monte Vista Memorial Park for a 2:45 PM graveside service.

    Betty Renfro, 85, of Fordtown Road, died Monday, December 19, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her family after an extended illness. Born in Old Butler, TN, February 26, 1937, she was a graduate of Jonesboro High School and attended ETSU College of Nursing. Betty was the 1954 Bean Queen of Johnson County and was a homemaker. She had been a member of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church since 1963. Betty was a longtime volunteer for Reach To Recovery. She assisted her husband as office manager for many years.

    She was preceded in death by her son, Fred Renfro; sister, Norma Durham and husband Bill; brother, Edwin Dugger; parents, Blanche and L.D. Dugger; brother-in-law, Howard Courtner.

    Betty is survived by her husband, Dr. C.A. “Pete” Renfro; two daughters, Mitzi Thompson and husband James of Charlottesville, VA, Sandra Edwards and husband Ben of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Ashley Danehy and husband Michael, Joey Edwards and wife Kelsei, Katie Edwards and fiancé Aaron Austin; great-grandson, William Danehy; sister, Martha Courtner of Johnson City; sister-in-law, Randa Dugger of Johnson City; nieces, Donna, Amy, and Amber; and nephew, Eric.

    The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. J. David Randolph officiating.

    Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

    Pallbearers will be Ben Edwards, James Thompson, Joey Edwards, Eric Durham, Michael Danehy and Aaron Austin.

    BUTLER - Edna Honeycutt Stalcup, Butler passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 at her residence.

    She was born May 28, 1930 in old Butler, the eldest child and only daughter of the late Tine & Fern Slemp Honecyutt. Edna was preceded in death by two husbands: Paul Courtner and Lowell Edwin Stalcup, three brothers: Albert "Bud" Honeycutt, Charles Edwin Honeycutt and Richard Burl Honeycutt. She was educated at the Butler Grammar School and Watauga Academy of old Butler. She was the Valedictorian of the last class of 1948 at Watauga Academy. She earned her B.S. Degree in Elementary Education and Secondary English, also her Master's Degree from East Tennessee State College in Guidance and counseling, her E.D.S. Degree from Appalachian State University, Boone, NC. In Supervision and Higher Education.

    Edna worked forty two years in the Johnson County School System, the last 24 years of her career she served as Guidance Counselor at Johnson County High School.

    She was a lifelong member of Butler Baptist Church, serving as Training Union Director, Sunday School Teacher and Choir member. She loved God, her family, and friends. She loved helping people of all ages. She was a member of Butler Chapter # 218 Order of Eastern Star.

    Survivors include one nephew: Bruce Alan Honeycutt, Pembina, North Dakota. Two Nieces: Melanie Atkins & husband Barron, Bristol, Va., and Angela Rasnake and husband Steve, Piney Flats, two great nieces: Madison Rasnake and Alexa Rasnake, Piney Flats, one sister-in-law: Linda Honeycutt, Piney Flats. One Aunt & Uncle: Ethel & Wayne Harris, Johnson City.

    A Celebration of Life Service for Edna will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 in Butler Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Wood officiating. Interment will follow in Butler Memorial Cemetery. Music will be provided by Rev. Daniel Wood and Mrs Betty Cunningham, Organist. Active Pallbearers will be: Barron Atkins, Steve Rasnake, Froy Hernandez, James Johnson, T.J. Little, David Pleasant and Harry Pierce. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Her church family and Dr. John Whitlock, Dr. Thomas Bulle, Wayne Harris, Mike Forrester, Dr. Raina Sluder. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to her recent care givers and friends.
