    Dorothy McQueen Hurt, age 85, of Elizabethton, formerly of Butler, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Ivy Hall Nursing Home. She was a daughter of the late Cefford and Celia Hatley Dugger and was born in Johnson County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands, Dewey Lynn Hughes, Joe McQueen and R.L. Hurt; three brothers, Lucky Dugger, Fate Dugger and Paul Dugger; two sisters, Ona Treadway and Nancy Huggins.

    Dorothy retired as a CNA having worked at Signature HealthCARE of Elizabethton Rehab and Wellness Center (Pine Ridge Nursing Home), Hermitage Health Center and Life Care Center of Elizabethton. She was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church, a former member of the Elizabethton Senior Citizens where she was in charge of the Friday night dance. She also was a former member of the Red Hat Society. Dorothy enjoyed antiques, working with arts and crafts but most importantly, she loved Christmas and spending time with her family

    Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, Scotty Lynn Hughes and wife Robin, of Johnson City and George Dewey Hughes and wife Lori of Weslaco, TX; four grandchildren, Andrew Hughes of Portsmouth, VA; Maggie Hughes Balboa and husband Josh of Harlingen, TX, Chris Hughes of Butler, TN and Kelly Hughes of Elizabethton, TN; four great-grandchildren, Elisha, Olivia, Maddy and Jonah. Several nephews and close friends also survive.

    A service to celebrate the life of Dorothy McQueen Hurt will be conducted at 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Missionary George Hughes and Reverend Randy Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 PM prior to the funeral service in the chapel.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 13th at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 12:50 PM on Wednesday for the graveside service.

    The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Judy Deloach, Judy Jones and the Nurses and Staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Dr. Jonathan Bremer and the staff of Amedisys Hospice for the wonderful care given to Dorothy.

    Former Elizabethton High School athlete, Terry L. Treadway, 64, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Elizabethton home on the night of March 22, 2021. Also a baccalaureate of East Tennessee State University, Terry spent his professional career as a tri-cities banker. He joins his parents, Ralph and Ona Treadway, with our heavenly Father.
    Terry is survived by four children, Ben Treadway and his wife Ellyn, Stephanie Treadway Parshall and her husband Robert, Bobby Treadway and his wife Abagael, and his youngest son, Alex Treadway. He also leaves behind a beloved brother, Jeff Treadway and his wife Glenda, along with his nephew, Jonathan, and his nieces, Sarah and Eden. Terry also leaves behind two grandchildren, Francis and Isabelle. He passes along his love of sports and passion for family.
    The family will be holding a small, private ceremony.

    ELIZABETHTON - Scotty Lynn Hughes, 60, Elizabethton, passed away Monday, October 10, 2022 at his residence. He was born December 7, 1961 to the late Dewey Lynn Hughes and Dorothy Dugger Hughes McQueen. Scotty was a 1980 graduate of Johnson County High School. He retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service. He received the following awards: Sailor of the year in 1995. His metals were The Navy Rifle Marksmanship, Navy Expeditionary and the Armed Forces Expeditionary. His final rank was Leading Chief Petty Officer. Scotty served on the US Navy Submarines: USS Newport News, USS Atlanta, USS Ainsworth and the USS Seawolf. He loved sports was an avid golfer, an avid UT Volunteer fan and the Atlanta Braves and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a former member of the Dixie Youth League and struck out 16 of 18 batters in 1974. Scotty was a member of the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and the Men’s Bible Class.

    Survivors include his son, Andrew Hughes, Suffolk, Virginia; one granddaughter, Madelyn Hughes; one brother, George (Lori “Leroy”) Hughes, Weslaco, Texas; two nieces, Maggie (Josh) Balboa, and Kelly (Troy) Davis; one nephew, Chris (Alysia) Hughes; his special friends, Dave Snyder, Curtis Gentry, Kevin Pittman, Jonathan Hankins, Steve Harsh and Mike White.

    Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday in Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Johnson, Rev. George Hughes and Rev. Troy Davis officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2022 in Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Mark Potter officiating. Music will be provided by Lisa Poole. Active Pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the church at 6:50 p.m. Friday and the funeral home at 10:20 a.m. Saturday will be Andrew Hughes, Chris Hughes, Troy Davis, Dave Snyder, Jonathan Hankins and Mike White. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joshua Hankins, Caleb Hankins and Scotty Hayes.
