Betty Faye Stuart, age 88, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, August 08, 2017 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was born on March 18, 1929 to the late Calton and Bessie Eastridge Graybeal. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband Moffett Lee Stuart; sister, Sue Simmons and brothers: Conley Odell Graybeal, Wade Graybeal, Pete Graybeal and Vaughn Graybeal.

Betty enjoyed singing in church. She liked to socialize and enjoyed being around other people. Betty loved being outdoors. She was a loving sister and will truly be missed by her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memories include sisters: Ruth Cooke and Bobbie Cogswell; special niece, Shirley Ann Dunn; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 at Reece Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Paul Graybeal officiating. Pallbearers will be Eddie Lipford, Ronnie Lipford, Tim Lipford, Terry Cooke, Tom Cooke and Teddy Cooke. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Robert Griffith and Bob Graybeal.

We are saddened to announce the passing of Ruth Caroldean Cooke, age 91, on February 2, 2023 at her residence. Ruth was born on March 10, 1931 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late Calton Graybeal and Bessie Eastridge Graybeal.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Roy Gene Lipford; a son, Terry Lynn Cooke; sisters, Betty Faye Stuart, Sue Simmons, Bobbie Jean Cogswell; brothers, Conley Odell Graybeal, Wade Graybeal, Pete Graybeal, Vaughn (Short) Graybeal and an infant brother Bernice Graybeal.

Ruth was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith. She was a very loving and caring mother, loved preparing meals and the holidays and had a meal with her family every Monday night.

Her survivors include her husband of 61 years, Jim Cooke of the home, her children, Eddie Lipford (Sirena), Ronnie Lipford (Debbie), Elaine Henley, Tim Lipford (Mary), Tom Cooke, Teddy Cooke and Michele Cooke Crowder (Jim); grandchildren, Calvin Lipford, Jessica Cunningham, Leon Henley, Adriane Henley, Mackenzie Cooke, Mikey Furches and Cameron Crowder; seven great grandchildren; her special friend, Mary Alice (Punkin) Jenkins and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Ruth Caroldean Cooke will be conducted on Sunday, February 5, 2023 in the Buford Lipford Chapel in Hux & Lipford Funeral Home at 2 pm with David Hankle and Berry Dunn officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 pm prior to the service. Graveside service and burial will follow in the Reece Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family.

Elvertie Irene “June” Tester, age 91, of Mountain City, passed away on Friday evening, November 19, 2021 at the Mountain City Care and Rehab Center. June was born on September 19, 1930 in Ashe County, NC to the late Lynn Graybeal and Elverta Roten Graybeal.

June was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother known to many as Ma, Granny or Great Granny. Some of the fondest memories she left her children, grandchildren and family were her Sunday afternoon meals. The table may have been small, but she always made sure there was plenty for anyone that came. Many Sunday meals consisted of chicken and dumplings and peach cobbler.

June had many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and she loved them all. Words cannot describe how deeply she will be missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Tennessee Tester; Barry Wiggins (son) of Kennet Square, PA; Michelle Sanderlin (daughter) of Mountain City, TN; Donna Tester (daughter) of Mountain City, TN; Barbara Brewer (step-daughter) of Mountain City, TN; Bill Graybeal (brother) of York, PA; Elwood Graybeal (brother) of Mountain City, TN; Dean Graybeal (brother) of Gap, PA; Ed Graybeal (brother) of Mountain City, TN; and Allie Tester (grand-daughter) of Mountain City, TN.

Those left to cherish her memory is Judy Latham (sister) of Coatesville, PA; Johnny Graybeal (half-brother) of W. Virginia; James Graybeal (half-brother) of W. Virginia; Patty McCumbers (half-sister) of W. Virginia; Linda Harris (half-sister) of W. Virginia; Lena Russel (half-sister) of W. Virginia; and Brenda Fillipas (half-sister) of W. Virginia.

A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. The graveside service and burial will immediately follow the funeral at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Adam Forrester, Matthew Forrester, Derrick Ellison, Cody Ellison, Adam Winters, Kenneth Roark, and Billy Joe Tester.

Charles William 'Bill' Graybeal, age 71, of Mountain City, TN passed away Saturday August 10, 2019, in the Johnson City Medical Center. Bill was born on February 18th, 1948, to the late "Pete" Chester Clyde Graybeal, SR and Margaret Opal Phillippi Graybeal. In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by an infant sister. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in the outdoors.

Those left to cherish Bill's memory include his daughter; Joey Beth Souder and husband Chopper, son William Clay Graybeal, sisters Linda Hodge and husband Ted, and Susie Mink and husband Dean, brother "Buck" Chester Clyde Jr., all of Mountain City, TN, grandchildren Sydney Souder and Chloe Graybeal. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Lois Ellen Maze, 76, lost her 13 year battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. She never gave up the hope of getting better. Lois was born April 18, 1946 to the late Glen and Norma Osborne Owens of Creston, NC. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wiley Maze, and brother-in-law, Dewey Woodard.

Lois was of the Christian faith and had a great love for animals.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Lisa Brown Farmer; grandson, Tripp Farmer; sister, Wilma Woodard; brother, Clyde Owens and wife Judy; niece, Sheila Gentry and husband Shaun; nephews, Steve Owens and Doug Woodard.

Lois will be laid to rest with Wiley on Monday, December 26, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park with Josh Giddings officiating. There will be no formal visitation.
