    Arra B. Garland, 82, 1614 Orlando Drive, Johnson City, died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
    Mrs. Garland was a native of Carter County and had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late John and Emma Morton Hyder and was also preceded in death by her husband, Ira Garland, in 1968, five brothers and two sisters.
    Mrs. Garland was a retired employee of TPI.
    Survivors include four sons, Curtis Lynn Church, Palm Bay, Fla., Richard L. Church, Elizabethton, Bobby Church, Jonesborough, and Sammy Garland, Johnson City; a daughter, Linda Gourley, Jonesborough; and a brother, Clyde
    Hyder, Johnson City. Twelve grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
    GARLAND -- Funeral services for Arra B. Garland, 82, 1614 Orlando Drive, Johnson City, who died Wednesday, will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. Friday from the Morris-Baker South Chapel with Rev. Dale Ferrell officiating.
    Interment will follow graveside services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Roselawn Memory Gardens. The family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Saturday and go in procession to the cemetery for those
    services. Pallbearers will be the following grandsons: Bobby L. Church, Richard Church Jr., Billy Church, David W. Church, Joey Church, Aaron Gourley, David Garland, Buddy Church and Gene Austin. The family will receive friends
    at the funeral home from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Friday and other hours at the homes of her children. Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, is in charge of arrangements.

    Arra married Hubert L. Church about 1938 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee. Hubert (son of Joseph R. Church and Magnolia Little) was born on 18 Mar 1913 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; died about 1972 in Washintgon County, , , Tennessee; was buried in Miller Cemetery, , Washington County, Tennessee.     GRAY - Marlene B. Hyder Meeks, of Gray, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Life Care Center of Gray. A native of Washington County, she was a daughter of the late William C. "Charlie" and Mary Oliver Hyder. Mrs. Hyder retired from the F.B.I in Washington, D.C following 35 years of service. She was of the Baptist faith.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H.T. "Tom" Meeks, daughter, Jayne Annette; sister, Gladine Harrison; two infant brothers; and an infant niece.

    Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Janette and Jim Ford; nephew Landon Harrison; and two special cousins, Norma Smith and Charlie Oliver.

    The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Monte Vista Memorial Park with Rev. E.L Wheeler officiating. Music will be provided by Queenie Wheeler. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. in the Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home.

    To those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Paul Brown andChristie, Christine Kinley, Ameydis Hospice, and the staff of Life Care Center of Gray for their loving care.

    JOHNSON CITY - Dr. Carroll R. Hyder, age 77, Johnson City, passed away Friday, April 5, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol.

    A native of Johnson City, he was the son of the late Daughton and Stella Moody Hyder.

    He was a member of Boones Creek Christian Church.

    Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jimmie Ann Leonard Hyder, Johnson City; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Todd & Jennifer Hyder, Johnson City; two special grandsons, James Hyder and Patrick Hyder; one brother and sister-in-law, Norman & Barbara Hyder, Maryland; sister-in-law, Patsy Johnson and husband Richard, Johnson City; three nieces and one nephew.

    He graduated from Boones Creek High School in 1959. In 1967 he received his B.S. and also his M.A. from East Tennessee State University in Industrial Technology. In 1971 he received his PH.D. from The Ohio State University in Industrial Technology and Research Statistics.

    Dr. Hyder served four years in the United Sates Air Force at Barksdale Air Force Base in LA. He was a Photo Intelligence Photogrammetry and Cartographic. His unit was presented the Presidential Unit Citation. He was affiliated with scientific, professional and civic organizations: Associated General Contractors of America, East Tennessee Associated General Contractors, National Association of Home Builders, Johnson City Area Home Builders, Syndication, American Vocational Association, and Epsilon Pi Tau, International Honorary Fraternity, and Kiwanis Clubs International. He also had Professional License US Security and Exchange Commission Series 22 and US Security and Exchange Commission Series 63.

    Dr. Hyder was Associate Dean and Professor at East Tennessee State University. He was Dean of the College of Applied Science and Technology at E.T.S.U. and Chairman of Department of Technology at E.T.S.U. He was Associate Professor and Coordinator of Construction Technology program, Vocational Teachers program, and graduate program. He was also at the center for Vocational and Technical Education, Research Associate with primary focus in program evaluation and Career Education and Highway Safety Projects. At E.T.S. U. he helped develop the Gray Fossil Site. He was also instrumental in Digital Media at the University.

    He loved to play golf and took many trips with friends to play.

    Funeral services will be conducted 7:00 pm Monday, April 8, 2019 at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home with Mr. Michael H. Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Monday prior to the service.

    Private interment services will be conducted at Washington County Memory Gardens.

    Richard Lee Church, 74, of Elizabethton, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018, at Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness.
    He was a native of Johnson City and a son of the late Arra Belle Hyder Church.
    Richard was a 1961 graduate of Lamar High School. He was a retired employee of Baxter Pharmaseal after 27 years of service. His hobby was fishing. Later in life he put his faith and trust in God.
    Survivors include three sons, Richard Lee Church Jr. and Billy Church, both of Johnson City, and Bobby Gene Austin, Elizabethton; one daughter, Yvonne Whitehead, Johnson City; four grandchildren, Miranda, Aaron, Tonya and Josh; one great-grandson, Hawthorne Isiah Byington; three brothers, Curtis "Lynn" Church and wife Connie of Florida, Bobby E. Church and wife Pat, Telford, and Sammy Garland, Gray; one sister, Linda Gourley and husband Doug, Jonesborough; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    A service for Richard Lee Church will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, April 16, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Dewayne Calhoun, minister, officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum. Active pallbearers will be Billy Church, Richard Church Jr., Mickey Mackley, David Garland, Gene Austin, Aaron Gourley and Paul Skinto.

    JONESBOROUGH - Mr. David "Dave" A. Hyder, age 69, Jonesborough, passed away on Wednesday February 15, 2017 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

    Dave was born in Johnson City, TN on March 7, 1947. He was the son of Wilma Bowers Hyder and the late Dave S. Hyder. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Hyder and father-in-law, Leon Baker Sr.

    Dave was a member of the 1965 class of Jonesboro High School. He served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972. He was a barber by profession and for many years owned Dave's Barber Shop in Johnson City. Dave enjoyed fishing and show cars. He was a member of Hales Chapel Ruritan and Jonesborough Hardees early morning club.

    Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Brenda Baker Hyder; his mother Wilma Hyder; sisters, Judy Gray and Shelia Shell; nieces, Sherry Bowman and Judy Gail White; three great nephews, several cousins and a special cousin and friend, Bobby Church; Dave is also survived by his Baker family who loved him deeply; mother-in-law, Evelyn Baker of the home; brother-in-law, Leon Baker and wife Kathy; nephew, Eric Baker and wife Crystal; great nephew, Jonathan Baker.

    Brenda wishes to extend a special thank you to Larry Hoss for always lending a helping hand when needed for many years. Also a special thank you to the physicians, nurses and staff of the 2900 I.C.U. for the care and compassion shown to Dave, herself and family during this difficult time.

    You may call on Brenda and family, Saturday at the home of Leon and Kathy Baker.

    The family will receive family and friends Sunday February 19, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home.

    It was Dave's request that a graveside service be held at Mountain Home National Cemetery. Committal service will be held Monday, February 20, 2017 9:00 AM with Military Honors.
