Della Mann Ward, 86, of Roan Mountain, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness.
A native of Avery County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Myrtle Clawson Mann.
Mrs. Ward was a homemaker. She was a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Ward, who passed away February 3, 2017; four brothers, William Mann, Arney O. Mann, Donald Mann and Allen Mann; and four sisters, Perlie Henson, Margie Guy, Nellie Greene and Bertha Guy.
Survivors include a son, Kelly Ward, of the home, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services Della Mann Ward will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, at Flat Springs Baptist Church, Elk Park, N.C., with the Rev. Brian Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Flat Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday

Mrs. Virgie Mae Cable, 77, formerly of 510 Maple Street, Elizabethton, died Friday, July 18, 2003, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Cable was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Frank and Ida Mann Henson.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Coy C. Cable, in 1982, and by a brother and six sisters.

Mrs. Cable was a member of New Testament Baptist Church and the Elizabethton Senior Citizens. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a brother, Clay Henson, Hickory, N.C., and a sister, Bernice Hartley, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Virgie Mae Cable, 77, formerly of 510 Maple Street, Elizabethton, who died Friday, July 18, 2003, were conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 19, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with the Rev. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, in the Flat Springs Cemetery, Avery County, N.C.

Mr. Jimmie Dale "Paw Jim" Mann, 74, 222 Little Stoney Creek Road, Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. Now he is cruising on the streets of gold!


Mr. Mann was the son of the late Dayton James and Winnie Arnett Mann and was a native of Carter County. He was a member of the Hunter Memorial Baptist Church and an honorary member of Fountain of Life Bible Church. He was retired from Great Lakes Research as a welder and had also retired from American Bemberg. He was also a member of the Carter County Car Club.


Mr. Mann is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Janette Bowers Mann of the home; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Teresa Treadway, Elizabethton; Lisa and Dan Germaine, Elizabethton; Carolyn and Dennis Ledford, Jr. Piney Flats; eight grandchildren, Brandon Treadway, Brian Treadway, Kent Germaine, United States Air Force and his wife Kim; Spc. Kyle Germaine, United States Army, and his wife, Heather, Kurt Germaine, Neil Ledford, Allison Ledford and Jared Ledford; two great-grandchildren, Yasmin Treadway and Savion Lytton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Joyce Mann, Elizabethton; Jerry and Velma Mann, Church Hill and a special sweetheart, Sandra K. Cederborg, Baltimore, MD. Several nieces and nephews also survive.


The funeral service for Mr. Mann will be conducted on Friday, February 13, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, Elizabethton with Dr. Vic Young and Mr. Gerald Holly officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sue Bowers and Dan Germaine. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Friday prior to the service and at the residence at other times.


The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Gerald Holly, officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and Wayne Cagle. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Arnett, Dr. Jeff Farrow, Dr. Jason Hatjioannou, Dr. Louis Collier Jordan, members of the Carter County Car Club and J.D. Anderson. ELIZABETHTON - Kenneth Gene Mann, 85, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021 at his residence. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Dayton James & Winnie Ellen Arnett Mann. Kenneth was a 1954 graduate of Elizabethton High School, he also had classes at University of Tennessee and East Tennessee State University. He served in the United States Army and the National Guard. He was an instructor for 20 years at North East State. He loved to fly and was a private Pilot for years. Kenneth was an avid UT Fan and NASCAR Fan. He loved to attend the Car shows and riding his Motorcycle and farm his family land. He was a former Airport Commissioner and a member of the Elizabethton Elks Lodge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Jimmy Mann. Kenneth was a member of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years: Joyce Hardin Mann. His Daughters: Kimberly (Carl) Miller, and Paula (Donnie)Hall. Two Grandchildren: Chelsie Maupin and Abby (Andrew) Martin. Three Great Grandchildren: Gracie & Carly Jo Maupin and Kenna Kyte. One Brother: Jerry (Velma) Mann. Several nieces & nephews. His special furry companion: Whiskers.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, Minister and Chaplain Chris Hughes officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. ELIZABETHTON - Ronald Eugene"Pappy" Trivett, 75, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019 at his residence after a brief illness.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Culbie & Novella Simerly Trivett. Ronnie was a 1962 graduate of Hampton High School. He served in the United States Army and the Tennessee National Guard. He formerly was employed at North American Rayon Corporation, a bus driver and was a Carter County Commissioner for over 20 years. Ronnie was a member of Slagles United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Watauga Masonic Lodge # 622. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister: Ruthie Trivett and a nephew: Timmy Oliver. He was an avid fisherman & hunter.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years: Patsy Guinn Trivett. A Daughter & Son-In-Law: Lynnetta Trivett & Leo Lothridge. A son: Tony Trivett. His Granddaughters: Ashley (Michael) Shouse and Whitney (BK) Marlowe. His Great Grandchildren: Sutton Marlowe, Hadley Shouse, Destiny, Cadence & Addison Lothridge. His Step-Grandsons: Todd & Adam Lothridge. His Sisters: Kathy (Butch) Oliver and Brenda Hunter.

On Wednesday, December 1, 2021 a handsome, blue eyed beauty from Pogi beheld the face of God at the age of 52. Johnny C. Henson, Jr., born on April 2, 1969, was the second child of four and the only son born to Johnny C. Henson, Sr. and Velma Lambert Bunton. Johnny had known loss in his life, his paternal grandparents, Percy V. Henson and Pearlie Mann Henson; his maternal grandparents, Troy J. Lambert and Arbeulah Trivette Lambert; he mourned the loss of many countless others, including June and Della (Deller to us and as Johnny called her, his “Other Mother”) Henson, Muriel Henson, Margie Hartley, Lexie Harmon, his uncle Ben Greene and his daughter, Kim Greene Oliver; Elliott and Katherine Trivette, and his buddies, Scott Miller and Jeff Dugger.
Johnny grew up in the hills of Pogi (he would quote- it’s only Poga to people who don’t live there) on the banks of the Elk River fishing in the summer months and hunting in the woods of Pogi in the winter months. Johnny went to Little Milligan Elementary and then graduated from Hampton High School with the class of 1988. Johnny was known by many names, Pogi Bull, Little John and Uncle Boo Boo but the name of Dad was his favorite. Johnny was happiest with his wife and his girls, going to family cookouts and homecomings to see friends and kin.
Johnny had worked at many jobs, his most recent job was as a security guard in Johnson City. Before that he had worked at Broyhill Furniture in Lenoir, NC, North American Rayon Corporation and Superior Wheels. Johnny had also worked for the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, under his father- then Sheriff of Carter County, as a jailor, road deputy and taking the cleanup crews out to local cemeteries. Johnny had a servant’s heart and excelled at any trade, maybe because of “know how” but more likely because of his willingness to help others and do his best. His most important job came when he met and married his wife, Chris, and had two beautiful daughters that were the absolute loves of his life.
Johnny had attended many churches in his life- Meadowview Baptist Church in Buntontown is where he was baptized and made a member, Keenburg- where he was married and took his children, but Piney Grove Church of Christ was his boyhood church and no matter which church he visited he was a Christian man in every sense of the word. Johnny was the most kind, sensitive man the world had ever seen. It never failed to receive a card every birthday and every Christmas with the most beautifully worded messages in them. Words cannot do him justice and therefore we are humbled only to try because his smile, his love, his warmth cannot be measured by this world’s standards.
Johnny left a legacy of kindness and love that will live on in the love of his life, his wife, Chris Lovette Henson; the lights of his life, Nevaeh Henson (his caregiver and daughter) and his mini me that he was “conditioning” for hunting stardom, his daughter, Lilly Henson; his father that loved him dearly, Johnny C. Henson, Sr. and his step mom, Kathy; his rock- his mother, Velma Lambert Bunton and his step dad, George Bunton; his (much older and shorter sister) Valarie Forrester and husband David, his (beautiful) sister, Becky Henson and Dennis Guy, his younger sister (the baby he spoiled) Sherri Henson; his step brothers, Josh Bunton and wife Amanda and James Ray Honeycutt; his step sisters, Teresa Bunton Trivette and Heather Honeycutt; several aunts, uncles and cousins and his nieces and nephews, who knew him as Uncle Boo Boo. Many many friends, too many to list because that was Johnny, everyone that knew him loved him and were considered friends from then on.
Johnny always wanted to move back home to Pogi and we are keeping our promise to take him home.
The family would like everyone to join us in a homegoing celebration of our beloved Johnny’s life on Saturday, December 4, 2021 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Johnny’s childhood minister, Mr. Dean Estep, and his cousin, “Little” Charlie Trivette, officiating. We will be receiving friends to share memories of Johnny from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
Johnny’s graveside service will follow in his beloved Pogi across from his homeplace in the Abe Trivette Cemetery with his minister from Meadowview, Reverend Richard Jones, officiating. Johnny would have surely chosen or “hand picked” the following as pallbearers, Charlie Forrester, David Forrester, Dennis Guy, Jordan Guy, Keith Trivette, Steve Trivette, Michael Walsh and Eric Trivette. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends and coworkers from previous employment and his hunting buddies through the years.
Our family would like to thank our many wonderful family and friends for the tremendous outpouring of love, kindness, prayers and donations to our family all done out of love for our Johnny. Also, a big thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Johnson City Medical Center ICU Unit for their outstanding, round the clock care for our precious Johnny, not to mention hundreds of updates we called for.
The flame flickered when he left us, but the flame burns strong within us.

Neil Thomas Ledford, age 28, of Bristol, Virginia, went home to meet his Heavenly Father on Monday, December 5th, 2022. Neil was born in Johnson City, Tennessee to Carolyn (Mann) Ledford Good of Elizabethton, Tennessee and the late Dennis Edward Ledford Jr. Tennessee. In addition to his father, Neil is preceded in death by his grandfather, Jimmie Dale Mann, and his step grandfather, James Simpson.

Neil was a faithful friend, with a kind, loving spirit and a very giving heart. He was good natured, funny, and loved his family very much, always making sure that they were taken care of and had what they needed.

From a young age, Neil displayed a wonderful work ethic and an interest in electronics, spending one summer working with NASA’s INSPIRE Nanotechnology Research program in San Juan, Puerto Rico through the STEM program at Oklahoma State University. After high school, Neil went on to work with the Avionics Department at Bell Helicopter, earning a five year achievement medal for his exceptional work and dedication.

Neil loved photography and had a lifelong passion for fast cars, participating in local cars shows as an active member of Tri-Cities Cars and Coffee Club After Dark with his own Dodge Charger. He was also a member of Civil Air Patrol, graduating as a Cadet Major, and was a member of Celebration Church. In his spare time, Neil also enjoyed geology and hiking.

Those left to remember and cherish Neil’s memory include his mother, Carolyn Ledford Good and her husband Sean Good, of Elizabethton; his sister, Allison Ledford Davies and her husband Harry Davies, of Kingsport; his brother, Jared Ledford, of Jonesborough; his grandparents, Janette Mann, of Elizabethton, Jana Simpson, of Johnson City, and Dennis Ledford Sr. and his wife, Donna Graybeal Ledford, of Gray; his uncle, Dale Ledford, of Johnson City; and his aunts, Teresa Treadway, Lisa Germaine, and her husband Dan Germaine, all of Elizabethton; and Jennifer Ledford France and her husband Dean, of Jonesborough. Several other extended family members also survive.

A service to honor and celebrate Neil’s life and memory will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 10, 2022 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton, Tennessee with Pastor Robert Russell of Celebration Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Saturday.

The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Josh Banks of Shepherd’s Rock Bible Church officiating. Active pallbearers will be Harry Davies, Chris Birchfield, Tim Compton, Caleb Meade, Dale Ledford, and Kurt Germaine. Neil’s friends and coworkers from Bell Helicopter will serve as honorary pallbearers.

On Wednesday, December 1, 2021 our precious son, Dean Jarrett Guy went home to be with the Lord at the age of 15. Dean was born in Elizabethton, the second and last-born son of Jack and Samantha (Braswell) Guy. There, in Heaven to meet this precious boy were his Pa Wes and his Mammie Willis Guy; his maternal great grandparents, Robert Blunt Clawson and Ethel Clawson; his maternal grandfather, Julian Braswell; his paternal great grandparents, Troy and Margie (Marvie) Guy; and his beautiful aunt, Cathy “Cat” Guy.
Dean was a kind, generous and beautiful soul, although he was quiet, he was also eager to help anyone that needed a laugh, a hug or a smile- he was there. He loved his family and cherished his time with them, there will be a void within us all because he was so loved by his family. Dean loved playing with his dog, “Rusty” and taking care of the other animals, both adopted and strays that he found, he wanted to show them the love they needed to be happy. Most of all, Dean loved his Mom and giving her hugs, he loved his Dad and spending time with him outside just tinkering around. His sisters and his brother were very special to him and he loved them and their time together. Dean was an exceptional young man and achieved a lot in his life both academically because he was so intelligent and at home where he loved to be of help. He will be missed greatly, our loss is Heaven’s gain.
Dean’s memories live on in his Mom and Dad, Jack and Samantha Guy; his brothers and sisters, Jill (Evan) Plummer, Jack Austin Guy (Savannah), Maggie (Zack) Buckles; his step sister, April Presnell and his step brother, Jacob Guy; his maternal grandparents, Sue (Carroll) Fletcher; his niece, Raelynn Buckles and a soon to be niece on the way. Several aunts and uncles that loved Dean tremendously also survive.
Dean’s family will hold a service to celebrate his life on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Pastor Greg Thompson, Pastor Keith Brown and Preacher Justin Deaton officiating. Music will be provided by April Guy.

Dean will be laid to rest beside his grandparents in the Flat Springs Cemetery following the service on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Dennis Guy, Jimmy Guy, David Guy, Evan Plummer, Josh Guy, Zack Buckles and Justin Guy. Jamie Main will serve as honorary pallbearer.
