Robert A. "Bob" Proffitt, age 67, of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Bob was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Joe L. and Rosa Lee Stout Proffitt. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Albert Proffitt.
Bob was the owner and operator of Volco Station on Broad Street for over 30 years. He was of the Christian faith. Bob was a member of the Carter County Car Club and of the Elizabethton Downtown Merchants. He enjoyed going to the flea market, antique cars and NasCar. Most of all, he loved his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years, Wanda Garland Proffitt, of the home; his daughter, April Proffitt, also of the home; his son, Joey Proffitt, of Johnson City; a brother, Dean Proffitt and wife Dorothy, of Johnson City; and a niece, Traci Proffitt, of Hampton.
A graveside service to honor the life of Mr. Robert A. "Bob" Proffitt, will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Ron Owens and Rev. Jerry Cannon, officiating. Active pallbearers will be Joey Proffitt, Tim Williams, Bill Feathers, Slim Miller, Dallas Clark and Dean Proffitt. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Bob's friends and customers and the employees of Mapes Piano String, Company. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton at 9:15 AM on Friday, to go in procession.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 25, 2016 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Bob's loyal customers for the past 30 years.
