ELIZABETHTON - Inge Ritchie, age 96, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton. Inge was born February 23, 1926 in Frankfort, Germany to the late Margareta Kuchenbecker Simon. In addition to her mother, Inge was also preceded in death by her husband, Golman Buck Ritchie; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Gary Ingram; one son, Donald Wayne Ritchie; and two sisters, Mathilde Fry and Marianne Meyers.
Inge retired as a Walmart associate and was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church. She had also worked at Denise Lingerie and for Big K Department Store. Inge loved spending time with her family, shopping, watching NASCAR races, Atlanta Braves and all of Elizabethton High School sports.
Those left to cherish Inge’s memories include her son, Ronald (Nancy) Ritchie of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Craig (Karma) Ingram, Mindy Ingram Buckles all of Elizabethton, and Jacqueline (Nathaniel) Yates of Mountain City, TN; five great grandchildren, Kaylee Ingram, Maely Ingram, Hannah Morgan, Madelyn Morgan and Skylar Yates; and her special friend and caregiver Karen Crowe and her Amedysis RN- Keith Greene. Nieces and a nephew also survive.
A graveside service to honor Inge’s life will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Reverend Steve Burleson and Reverend Jeremy Burleson officiating. ELIZABETHTON — Mrs. Kathleen Ritchie Bowers, 97, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

She was born in Carter County and was the daughter of the late David E. and Belle Murray Ritchie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Bowers, on July 28, 2006; four brothers, Ralph Ritchie, Roscoe Ritchie, Ted Ritchie, Elbert Ritchie; and three sisters, Pauline Ritchie, Helen Kate Payne and Lucille Ritchie.

Mrs. Bowers was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton, where she was active in the United Methodist Women and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class. She held offices, served the church and the community in other capacities, and was a faithful member of many organizations including the Elizabethton Women's Club, FCE (Home Demonstration Club) and the Carter County Republican Women's Club.

She was retired from the Head Start Program of the Carter County School System.

She is survived by a daughter, Carla Bowers Cox and her husband, Bob, of Knoxville, TN; a granddaughter, Tiffany Gardner and her husband, Scott, Knoxville, TN; two great-grandchildren, Madison Gardner and Johnathon Gardner, both of Knoxville, TN; a brother Sam Q. Ritchie and his wife, Ruth, of Elizabethton; and a sister, Emma Jean Roddy, also of Elizabethton.

The service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Bowers will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton, with members of her family joining together to celebrate her life. Music will be under the direction of Scott Reynolds, organist.

The family will greet those in attendance in the parlor of the church following the memorial service. The family will also welcome visitors from 2:00-4:00 PM on Friday, December 3, 2010, in the Fireside Room of Tetrick Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 4, 2010, in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery, Blue Springs Community. ELIZABETHTON - Sam Q. Ritchie, age 91, of Elizabethton, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tennessee.

Sam was born in Carter County on September 30, 1926 to the late D.E. Ritchie and Belle Murray Ritchie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings.

Sam graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1945 and then attended Steed College. He was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II.

Sam received his pilot's license at the age of 58 and was the former owner and operator of Sam Q's Restaurant in Elizabethton. He had also worked with his brother at Ritchie's Furniture.

Sam was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton, was a former member of the Carter County School Board, a former member of the Carter County Election Commission, a former member of the Jaycees and loved football and flying.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 69 years, Ruth Bryson Ritchie, of the home; his son, Sam Q. Ritchie, II, of Elizabethton; and his grandson, Nikolas Ritchie and wife Savannah, of Chicago, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews also survive, including two special nieces, Carla Cox and Margo Bentley.

A service to celebrate the life of Sam Q. Ritchie will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 27, 2017 at First United Methodist Church of Elizabethton with Reverend Raymond Amos, Sr., officiating. Music will be under the direction of the First United Methodist Church Choir, Tyler Fleming and David Arney. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church, prior to the service on Friday; or at his residence at other times.

Josephine Ritchie Williams, age 94, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, in the Pine Ridge Care Center, following an extended illness. Josephine was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Barnal Allen and Mary Ettie Nichols Ritchie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Williams; an infant brother; three sisters, Ethel Robinson, Beulah Smith and Anna Lee Lewis; and a special grandson by marriage, Billy Wayne Hilton.

Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening and flowers.

Survivors include three sons, Ed Williams and wife Charlotte, Darrell Williams and wife Barbara, and Harold Williams, all of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Kathy Hilton and her friend, George Shoun, Ann Andrews and husband James, and Darrell Wayne Williams and wife Donna, all of Elizabethton; four great grandchildren, Jeffery “Skeeter” Bowers, Billy “Peanut” Hilton, Kelly JoMae Hilton, and Jamie Andrews. It is with great grief that we mourn the departure of a precious, very much-loved Daddy, Husband, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Brother in love, and Friend, Russell Peters, who, at 85, finished his earthly journey and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. We are devastated by his loss, but we remain with the spiritual values he instilled in us and will forever cherish every day that we had as his beloved family, forever grateful to God for this precious gift. He was the son of the late Clarence M. and Dora Fletcher Peters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and their spouses: Jack and Helen Fletcher, Bynum and Lena Peters, and Willard and Joan Peters. Russell was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church and had done various church work over the years. He was a veteran, having served in the National Guard and Army Reserve. Most of his work years were with East Tennessee Chair Company as a band saw operator, who took pride and care in his part of producing beautiful pieces for various chairs. He also worked at NAR and then retired from Blue Ridge Fabricators. He was still an avid go-getter and worked hard, putting his family first with his remaining abilities up to the two weeks preceding his departure. He was at one time an avid gardener, fisherman, hunter-gatherer, wood artist, and enjoyed the mountains and beauty of God’s creation. Those left to cherish his memories and legacy are his beloved, devoted wife of 55 years, Bonnie Peters and cherished daughter, Jill Peters, along with her significant other Tom Davis, two beloved brothers, Norman Peters, Roscoe and Lynetta Peters, two beloved sisters Joyce Grindstaff and Jeanette Bowers, two Brothers and three sisters in love, Charlie(Tom) and Linda Williams, Marvin Williams, Cora Beaumont, and Brenda Riddle, along with treasured nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, as well as many spiritual brothers and sisters. Willard Peters, 81, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 5, 2021, from Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. He was born on January 19, 1940 to the late Clarence Millard Peters and Dora Belle Fletcher Peters.
Willard was employed by Summers-Taylor, where he retired. He was a member of Caldwell Springs Baptist Church. Willard was loved by everyone that had the joy of knowing him. He will be terribly missed by many. After he retired, Willard went back to get his GED. He also served as a volunteer firefighter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Joann F. Peters; an infant sister; his brothers, Jack Fletcher and wife Helen and Bynum Peters and wife Lena; and his brother-in-law, Landon Grindstaff.
Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Wendy Peters of Elizabethton; a step-son and step-daughter, whom he considered his own, Steve Williams and Linda Birchfield, both of Elizabethton; three granddaughters, Cindy James of Elizabethton, Whitney Vines of Kingsport and Lakisha Vines of Knoxville; two great-granddaughters, Caytlin James and Lakyn James, both of Elizabethton; his brothers, Russell Peters and wife Bonnie, Roscoe Peters and wife Lynetta and Norman Peters, all of Elizabethton; and his sisters, Joyce Grindstaff and Jeanette Bowers, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

ELIZABETHTON - James Edward “Jimmy” Peters, 79, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, February 4, 2023. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Paul P. & Mary Elizabeth Bibbs Peters. He was a graduate of Unaka High School. James served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was a concrete finisher. He loved hunting, woodworking and working in his yard. James was a member of Grace Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: James Edward Peters II and two brothers: Paul Peters, Jr. and Jack Peters.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Barbara Rhea Peters. One Daughter: Shonna Lea (Trevor) Harvey. Four Grandchildren: Meghan (Josh) Potter, Morgan Boling, Lola Peters and Paisley Harvey. One Brother: Larry (Brenda) Peters. Several Nieces and Nephews.

A Service to Celebrate the life of Jimmy Peters will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2023 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Travis Tyler and Pastor Tommy Maines officiating. JOHNSON CITY - Billie Berry Kirk, age 84, of Johnson City, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Elmcroft of Johnson City.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late William Noble and Kathryn Peters Berry. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kirk was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Paul Randall Kirk; sister, Loretta Berry.

Survivors include her daughter, Tamara Kirk Oglesby and husband Robert (Bob); three sons, Michael James Kirk and wife Nancy, Robert William Kirk and wife Kelley, and Paul Randall Kirk, Jr.; two sisters, Pamela Berry Walsh and husband Charlie, and Gail Berry Edwards; ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service for Mrs. Kirk will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 10, 2019 in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services, Johnson City. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. prior to the service in the chapel.

Sheilda "Gail" Edwards, 80, passed away Monday, August 19, 2019 at her daughters home in Stafford Virginia.

She was a native of Elizabethton, Tennessee. The daughter of the late William N. Berry and Cathryn Peters Berry. She was retired from Prince William County Schools in Woodbridge, Virginia.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her significant other of 36 years Geogre Cade; two sisters, Billie Kirk and Loretta Berry; and her two great grandchildren, Melanie Frye and Braylen Tipton.

WATAUGA - Mildred Mottern Young, age 97, 181 Cripple Creek Loop, Watauga, Tennessee, died Friday, July 1, 2022 and is now in her heavenly home, celebrating with family and friends. When her size 4 ½ feet hit the ground, they didn’t stop until they went to bed. With a smile and grace, she always gave more in life than she received.

Born April 8, 1925, was a 1943 graduate of Happy Valley High School and later business school. She worked as a bookkeeper until she retired from Thomas Industries/ Easy Painter in 1990. Church was always a big part of her life and she was a member of Brick Christian Church. She grew up in the big band era and loved music, especially when it was Elvis Presley singing.

Preceded in death by her parents David Ritchie Hyder and Sybil Range Hyder, husbands George F. Mottern and John J. Young, an infant son George Patrick Mottern and son Tim Mottern, an infant great-grandson Preston Davis, her sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Monk Tillman.

Survived by her family and mama to: son Joe Mottern and wife Vickie, daughter Jill Mottern-Stout and husband Steve, and daughter-in-law Deborah Mottern, Nannie P. to grandchildren: (and second mom to Faith) Faith Mottern Jimenez, Joey Mottern, Darkus Bowers, Jameila Cummings, Nikki Robertson and husband Josh, Anthony Payne and wife Jessica, Chrystal Ward and husband Rex, Jody Phillips and wife Stacey. JOHNSON CITY - Dr. Nat Edens "Ed" Hyder, Jr. M.D., 86, Johnson City, passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Pine Ridge Care & Rehab Center. Dr. Hyder was born in Hampton on March 14, 1929. He started high school at Hampton High School and graduated from Elizabethton High School in 1946. He attended Milligan College before joining the Army in June of 1947 after serving as a clerk and medic in the army he enrolled at East Tennessee State College to earn a B.S. degree in Chemistry. He also certified to teach at that time. He went on to attend and graduate from University of Tennessee College of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine Degree in June of 1954.

Dr. Hyder practiced medicine until 2009. He served in Knoxville, TN, Tazewell, VA, Lallie Kemp Charity Hospital in Louisiana, worked in Medical Management of Radiation Accidents at Oak Ridge, also practicing in Chatom, AL, Erwin, TN, Johnson City, TN and with Rural Health Consortium at the Bluff City Clinic and his last several years at the Dry Creek Clinic in Erwin, TN.

During his career Dr. Hyder also served several communities, the State of Tennessee and his nation in many capacities. He was a longtime Railroad Physician with CSX. He served as a Nuclear Medical Consultant and Plant Physician at Nuclear Fuel Services at various times from 1970 until 1992.

He has served as president of the Erwin Civitan Club, the Erwin Community Chest and United Way, as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Erwin YMCA. He is a member of Mountain View Baptist Church and has also served as Deacon of the First Baptist Church of Chatom, AL; First Christian Church in Erwin and the First Baptist Church in Erwin

In 1968 Dr. Hyder volunteered through a program with the American Medical Association to go to Vietnam as a civilian doctor treating Vietnamese civilians alongside Vietnamese nurses. There he performed many surgeries as he also treated the wounded. It was also a common occurrence that at night he would have to leave his quarters and go to the bunkers because of mortar attacks.

Dr. Hyder has served in many other capacities. In 1971 he was appointed by the Governor to the Tennessee Public Health Council, serving as secretary in 1976 and 1977. He was president of the Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians in 1972. In 1974 he was named Family Physician of the Year for the state of Tennessee. He is a past delegate to the AMA. He served as president of the Tennessee Medical Association in 1983.

Dr. Hyder has also served in various positions with the James H. Quillen College of Medicine through ETSU; he stood as Acting Director of the Johnson City Family Practice Residency Program, a member of the Dean's Council and Admissions Committee, Associate Professor in the Department of Family Practice and assistant Dean and Director of Medical Education at the Johnson City Medical Center.

In addition to his community support Dr. Hyder has served his country through the military in several capacities. In 1975 he joined the Medical Corps in the United States Army Reserve. He was promoted to Colonel in 1978. He became Commander of the 912th Combat Support Hospital in 1982. In 1985 he became the Commander of the 332nd Medical Brigade, leading over 150 Army Reserve Units in the USA. Before retiring he served as commander over 377th Combat Support Hospital and then transferred to 662 Medical Detachment of the National Guard. Though he retired from the National Guard in 1995 he later joined the National Defense Force Service Command, a part of Homeland Security. Here he has served as Brigadier General, Major General and Lieutenant General.

In addition to his parents, Dr. Hyder was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Hurst Hyder; one son, Paul Marshall Hyder; two grandsons, Nason Michael Hopkins and J. Keith Hyder; a daughter-in-law, Teresa Hyder and a sister, June Evelyn Hyder Walsh.

Samuel Leon "Buddy" Hardin, age 77, of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Johnson City Medical Center after an extended illness.
A lifelong native of Carter County, he was born in Elizabethton, TN, to the late Hobert and Sally (Alford) Hardin.
Sam attended Unaka High School and graduated from East Tennessee State University and The School of Banking of the South (Louisiana State University). He retired from Walters State Community College, Morristown, TN, where he was a supporter of the Walters State Senators.
Sam was an avid golfer and life-long Tennessee Volunteer fan, but above all he loved spending time with his family and supporting the athletic events of his grandchildren. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and friend loved dearly by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce "Peggy" (Holly) Hardin; and stepmother, Juanita (Cole) Hardin.
He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Hedge and husband, Bill, of Jupiter, FL, Lori Armstrong and husband, Mike, of Johnson City, TN; three grandchildren, Shannon Hedge, Cody Armstrong (Great Falls, MT) and Caleb Armstrong; sister, Dora Lynn Moneyhun, of Greeneville; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Cynthia Simmons, Morristown, TN.

ELIZABETHTON - Claudia Nell Ensor, 87, Elizabethton, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 from Life Care Center of Elizabethton. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Blonnie Blanche Alford. Claudia was born and raised in the Carter community of Stoney Creek. She had retired as office manager for Dr. Douglas Cole, and she dearly loved the practice’s patients, her co-workers, and Dr. Cole and his family. Claudia was one of the few remaining charter members of Unaka Baptist Church, where she was a faithful choir member. She loved to sing, and especially enjoyed attending “singing school” every year, along with her good friend Ann Hardin.
Claudia was a graduate of Unaka High School, where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team.
She was an excellent cook and home decorator and always made the holidays very special for her family.
Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were Claudia’s world. Whether it was driving them to ballgames, school events, or church activities, there was nothing she relished more. Loved ones often joked that Claudia didn’t like to sleep for fear she’d miss out on something “the kids” were doing. She admitted she was the reason a few of them were spoiled.
Claudia lost the love of her life, Ralph Ensor, on March 16, 1983, in a tragic accident. They had married on July 8, 1952, and Claudia always counted those 30 years and 8 months as the best part of her life. Claudia was also preceded in death by her cousin, Geraldine Grindstaff, who she counted as a sister.
Survivors are her three children: Jeff Ensor (wife, Nancy); Jennifer Grindstaff (husband, Gary); and Alan Ensor (wife, Pam). Five grandchildren: J.R. Ensor (wife, Julia); Justin Grindstaff (wife, Rebekah); Madison Bowman (husband, Joe); Andrea Lee (wife, Suzanne); and Adam Ensor. Ten great-grandchildren: Cale Ensor, Olivia Whittaker, Mathias Ensor, Taylor Grindstaff, Jared Grindstaff, Patrick Sexton, Charlie Bowman, Micah Lee, Coraline Lee, and Axton Ensor.
The family would like to express a very special and sincere “thank you” to all the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton for the loving care, hugs, and attention she received. You truly spoiled her! Thank you, Unaka Baptist Church family, for remembering Claudia in prayer and with visits and gifts. For the other friends of Claudia’s and the family who took the time to visit; you will never know how much your visits meant to her, and to us. A very sincere thanks to you.

He was a son of the late William James Alford, Sr., and Veda Pierce Alford. In addition to his parents, Mr. Alford was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Hyder and Judy Ketron.

Mr. Alford worked for Leon Ferenbach and Bemberg, before retiring from East Tennessee State University after many years of employment.

Mr. Alford was a member of Southwestern Baptist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM Lodge # 622 Watauga, and was of the Scottish rite and a Jericho Temple Shriner.

Bill loved country music. He and his band played country music on WJHL in 1945, and he played and produced shows on WIDD.

The funeral service was conducted at 7:00 P.M. Monday, August 13, 2012 from the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home.

JOHNSON CITY - Margaret “Coby” Ingram, 85, Johnson City, died on Friday, June 18, 2021, at her residence with her family by her side.

Coby was a native of Johnson City and a daughter of the late William “Bill” and Veda Pierce Alford.

Coby worked at Giant Food Market/Food Lion for many years until her retirement. After retirement she enjoyed working at Bargains on Broadway. She loved going to the beach and spending lots of time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents Coby was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Lawrence Ingram, siblings, Billy Alford, Betty Hyder, Judy Keene, Houston “Beau” Alford.

Those left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Teresa Ingram Bennett; grandson and her special light, Sebastian Bennett; sister, Teresa Piercy; her fur baby and constant companion, Twilight; several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews; a lot of special friends throughout life.

JOHNSON CITY - Houston “Beau” Alford, 75, Johnson City, passed away, Thursday, May 13, 2021, with his family by his side, followed by a brief illness.

Beau was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was a son of the late William “Bill” and Alice O’Veda Pearce Alford.

Beau attended Freewill Baptist Church. He had the gift of music, being an incredible musician and vocalist, playing in: “The Bob Lewis Band” and “The Brother Buford Band.” He loved listening to old records like Elvis, and playing his keyboard. Beau was also a wonderful cook, known for his beef stew. When his children were young his house was always the place to come for dinner time. Everyone enjoyed his music, cooking, quick wit and humor.

Beau adored his family which included 5 children and 8 grandchildren. He always said, “Nothing was more important than family.” His family will honor this loving sentiment by continuing to gather even after moving in different directions.

In addition to his parents, Beau was preceded in death by his siblings, Billy Alford, Betty Hyder and Judy Keene.

Those left to carry on his legacy are his amazing children, Amy Alford Taylor (Chris) of Murfreesboro, John Seehorn (Misty) of Johnson City, Kasey Alford Thomas (Terry) of Lexington, KY, Jessica Alford Haynes (Scott Kologiski) of St. Petersburg, FL, Beau Alford (Kristen) of Nashville; grandchildren, Will, Riley, Marlee, Bodhi, Anne-Marie, Clara, Andrew, and Banks; sisters, Coby Ingram of Johnson City, Teresa Piercy of Chucky; he was adored as an uncle, cousin and friend.

JOHNSON CITY - Eleanor “Ellie” Jean Baehr, 71, Johnson City went home to be with Jesus, Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native and lifelong resident to Johnson City and was a daughter of the late Jess Willard Alford and Thelma Edith Lawless Alford. Ellie was a member of the Day of Deliverance Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and having family day on the weekend. Ellie spent majority of her time at church. She loved going to Bingo with her friends. Ellie spent her mornings watching game shows and the evening watching her westerns. She was a loving mother, grandmother and a devoted Christian. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Alford.

Survivors include her son, David Diehl and his wife, Shannon of Gray; a sister, Joyce Hodges of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Kaleb Diehl, Joshua Diehl and Piper Reed; the father of her child and longtime friend, David Christian Diehl of Johnson City; special friends, Allison Dalton, Janice Honeycutt, Terry Putzstuck, Helen McGrew and family; her entire church family; also several nieces and nephews.

Pamela Alford Roe, age 59, of Johnson City, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Pam was born and had been a resident of Johnson City her entire life. She was a 1974 graduate of Science Hill High School where she was a majorette and furthered her education by earning her LPN degree.

She was a loving and caring wife, mother and Nana. She truly had a nurse's heart and compassionately cared for each of her patients. Pam loved the mountains of East Tennessee and had a great love for animals. Pam served on the Board of Directors for the Washington County Humane Society and her love for children was exemplified by serving as a Girl Scouts den mother. She had a great love for music and enjoyed the blues, hymns of the church and the 1970's rock n' roll. Pam's hobbies included hiking, jogging, swimming and she enjoyed family trips to the beach. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Pam was an active member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, Johnson City.

Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Ruble and Jessie Mae Alford.

Surviving Pam: her husband of nineteen years, Congressman Phil Roe M.D., one daughter, Whitney Larkin, two sons, David Roe and wife Kimberly and John Roe and wife Jennifer, grandchildren, Kathryn and Caroline Roe, step-mother Verna Lee Alford, and her beloved pets, Max and Sabrina.

The family will greet friends to share memories on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 1:00PM until 3:00PM at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, Johnson City.

A Celebration of Pam's Life will follow at 3:00PM with Dr. Mark Gooden and Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating.

Following the service the family will greet friends in the Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church Christian Life Center.

ELIZABETHTON - Violet Jean Ritchie Friend, wife of William Friend, age 73, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, with her family and best friend by her side, November 18, 2017 from the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.

Violet was born in Elizabethton to the late Curtis B. Ritchie and Mary Lyons Ritchie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, David White; one son, Billy Hambric; one brother, J.C. Ritchie; and one sister, Shirley Ashley.

Violet retired as a seamstress at Levi Strauss & Company and attended Grace Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed scrapbooking, making cards, shopping with her daughter and spending time with her granddaughter, grandson and her son.

Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Shane Watson, of Elizabethton; a daughter, Kimberly Hambric Hoefling, of Johnson City; a granddaughter, Allison "A.J." Hoefling; a grandson, Cory Watson; several step grandchildren; two step sons, David Friend and Billy Friend, both of Michigan; and two step daughters, Jenny and Barb Friend, both of Michigan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Violet Jean Ritchie Friend will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Curtis Hurt and Rev. Nathan Jennings, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Tuesday.

The graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Monte Vista Memorial Park. HOBBS, N.M. — James Calvin Ritchie, 90, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023, in Hobbs. Jim, born in Elizabethton, Tenn., on November 12, 1932, is the second son of Nannie Josephine and Harry Roscoe Ritchie. Following a family move to Kingsport, Tenn., he attended Dobyns-Bennett High School and joined the Navy with training at Great Lakes Naval Base. Upon leaving military duty, he attended East Tennessee State University where he began work with the campus radio station, which marked his lifelong interest in broadcast media and journalism. After relocating to Texas, Jim became the owner/editor of the Celina Record and the Frisco Enterprise and became an avid photographer. He was known for his quirky sense of humor, love of family, and his passionate Christian faith. Jim enjoyed weekly fellowship with his Tuesday morning coffee buddies and Wednesday morning breakfast group. He loved to play board games with friends and solitaire at bedtime. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Marie Ritchie; his brothers, Ros Ritchie and Kim Ritchie; his sister, Cassandra Forth; and his children, Sheryl Shepherd, Brent Ritchie, Kimberly Ritchie Diaz, Scott Ritchie, Stacey Kluthe, Blaik Ritchie, Chase Galanakis, Kathryn Trammell and Zachary Ritchie. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Bill Petree and Jana Nelson. He was a proud grandparent to 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

James Wayne "Jimmy" Ritchie, 63, of Elizabethton, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, Jimmy was the son of the late Teddy Glen and Selma Bellamy Ritchie.
Although not able to serve in his country's armed forces, Jimmy was a true patriot at heart. He was an honorary member of the P.O.W. and the American Legion Watauga Post #49 where he loved attending meetings with his friends. He was also an avid flag collector. Jimmy was a Vexillogist (the study of flags) and was a member of the North American Vexillological Association. He attended Elizabethton First Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by a brother, David Ritchie; sisters, Wilma Bennett and Glenita Ritchie; a sister-in-law, Sharon Tolliver Ritchie; brothers-in-law, Ray White and Buddy Bennett; nieces, Heather Ann Ritchie and Amber Lee Ritchie; and nephews, Brian Ritchie and Paul Julian Jr.
He is survived by three brothers, William Glen Ritchie and wife, Joyce, of both Florida and Ohio, Teddy J. Ritchie of Dandridge, Tenn., and Randy E. Ritchie and wife, Nell, of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Patsy Ritchie Depp and husband, Joel, of Louisville, Ky., Barbara Carlock and husband, Bill, of Apison, Tenn., and Linda Ruth White of Elizabethton; a sister-in-law, Jennie Ritchie of Elizabethton; special cousins, Margo Bentley, Marcella Shoun, Larry Gobble and R.L. Gobble, all of Elizabethton; and special friends, Rhonda Gorley of Kingsport, Lelia Perry of Bluff City, William Carrier of Elizabethton and his many friends at the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and many additional cousins also survive.
A Celebration of Life service for Jimmy Ritchie will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at the Elizabethton First Church of the Nazarene, 200 W. I Street, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Kenley Knight and Mack Presnell officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday at the church from noon until 2 p.m., prior to the service. Harold "Big John" Williams, 70, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016, at Pine Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center, following a brief illness. He was born in Carter County to the late Clarence C. Williams and Josephine Ritchie Williams.
"Big John" had worked in the furniture industry and was of the Freewill Baptist faith. He enjoyed eating breakfast with his buddies at City Market and Nancy's Kitchen and especially enjoyed going to the Carter County Cruise Ins on Saturdays.
Those left to cherish his memory include two brothers, his twin brother, Darrell Williams and wife Barbara, and Clarence Ed Williams and wife Charlotte, all of Elizabethton; two cousins, Frances Stoneburner and Vernon Robinson, both of Maryland; one nephew, Darrell Wayne Williams, Elizabethton; two nieces, Melissa Ann Andrews and husband James and Kathy Lynn Hilton, all of Elizabethton; two great-nephews, Jeffrey "Sketter" Bowers and Billy Wayne Hilton Jr., both of Elizabethton; two great-nieces, Kelly Joe May Hilton and Jamie Andrews, both of Elizabethton; and a special buddy, Jessie James Wallace, Elizabethton.
A service to honor the life of Harold "Big John" Williams will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, March 7, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Rev. Carl Grindstaff and Rev. Doug Hinshaw officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service, or at the residence of his brother, Ed Williams, 112 Crestview Drive, Elizabethton, at anytime. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, at 10:15 a.m.

Darrell Williams, 77, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Clarence C. and Josephine Ritchie Williams. Darrell was an Auto Body Detailer. He loved having muscles cars and going to the car show. He was of the Christian Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Harold Williams, and a great-nephew, Billy “Peanut” Hilton. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Forbes Williams; a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell Wayne and Donna Williams; a grandson, Chris Whitehead; his brother and his wife, Clarence E. Charlene Kane, age 75, of Elizabethton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at her residence, following a brief illness. Mrs. Kane was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Coy Lee Peters and Ammo Peters Shell.

Mrs. Kane was retired from Mapes Piano String Company and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
