Notes: James Heyward DeLoach, 94, was the son of the late David Erastus and Eliza Ellen (Martin) DeLoach. Born on March 14, 1917, he was raised on a farm in Denmark, Georgia. His family relocated to Rockhill, S.C., when he was a teenager. After graduating from Winthrop Training School, he worked as a clerk with Seaboard Railway briefly before being drafted in WWII. After serving his country, he landed his dream employment with National Linen. There he had the opportunity to travel around the country, but always returning home to Columbia. One of his favorite past times was to reminisce about his travels and adventures with National Linen. After retirement, he worked with Anderson Armored Car Service well into his 80s. |
