MOUNTAIN CITY - Leta Grindstaff Lewis, age 96, of Mountain City, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Holston Valley Hospice, Kingsport, Tennessee.

She was born on August 3, 1921 to the late Daniel and Ada Proffitt Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, Leta was preceeded in death by her husband of 74 years, Herbert Lewis, who passed away November 12, 2016; brothers: Edward Grindstaff of Mountain City and Thomas Grindstaff of Lexington, NC; sisters: Myrtle Forrester and Lena Garland, both of Mountain City and son-in-law, Jim Dugger of Kingsport.

Leta was a graduate of Watauga Academy in Old Butler and the oldest member of Midway Baptist Church of Butler, Tennessee.

Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Evelyn Dugger of Kingsport, TN; grandson, Layne Dugger and his wife Dianne; special great granddaughters, Reagan and Delaney Dugger, all of Windermere, FL; special nieces, Kathy G. Hinkle of Lexington, NC and Diane Hazelwood of VA; SPECIAL NIEGHBORS: Christal and Greg and Carolyn and Raymond and many special friends and neighbors.

The family will receive friends from 3-4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2017 at the Mountain City Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Thompson and Pastor Chuck Morefield officiating. LEXINGTON, N.C. — Thomas F. Grindstaff, 80, of Brian Center Nursing Home, formerly of Hunter’s Way, died Tuesday morning in the Brian Center Nursing Home after declining health. Mr. Grindstaff was born in Johnson County, TN, on February 9, 1924, to Daniel Grindstaff and Ada Proffitt Grindstaff. Before retiring, he was an auto dealer at Johnson Motor Company and Grindstaff Chevrolet in Mountain City, TN. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Butler, TN. His wife, Thelma Hammons Grindstaff, and sister, Lena Garland, preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughters: Kathy Hinkle and husband, Davis, of Lexington, and Diana Hazelwood, of Marion, Va.; a grandson, Matthew Thomas Hinkle, of Lexington; one granddaughter; a brother, Edward Grindstaff, of Mountain City, TN; sisters: Myrtle Forrester and Leta Lewis, both of Mountain City, TN; a niece, Evelyn Dugger, of Kingsport, TN. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Dr. Ray Howell III and Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Roscoe and Stella Grindstaff Deloach. She had lived a number of years in Elizabethton. She was a housewife, Mom and Nannie. Mrs. McCoury was a Charter Member of Harvest Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry McCoury; and Five Brothers, Clyde, Junior, Billy, Has and J.G. Deloach.

She loved to read, quilt, cook and work in her garden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters: Anna Mae McCoury, Pauline Gentry, Hazel Pleasant and Mary Cassar; and five brothers: Clyde Deloach, Dana Hass Deloach, J.G. Deloach, William Deloach and Roscoe Deloach Jr.
Survivors include a sister: Laura Deloach of the home; a brother: Floyd "Bobby" Deloach, of the home; and several nieces & nephews.

Mary Deloach Cassar, 81, Salisbury, North Carolina, passed away Friday, December 11, 2009, at Autumn Care in Salisbury, NC.

Born April 14, 1928, in Johnson County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Stella Grindstaff Deloach.

She retired from the food service industry after 45 years of service and along with her late husband, Renard, were active members of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in Gray, Tennessee. She has been a resident of Salisbury, NC for ten years and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Renard (Ron) Cassar, on December 21, 1976, and by five brothers and three sisters.

She is survived by her three daughters, Rebecca Terry and her husband, Glenn, of Salisbury, NC, Stella Isenberg and her husband, Roy, of Gray, Tennessee, Sharon Pontius and her husband, Brian, of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Laura and Elmina Deloach, and a brother, Floyd Deloach, all from Elizabethton, Tennessee; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton, Tennessee.

Laura P. Deloach, of Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Roscoe and Estella Grindstaff Deloach. Laura had lived most of her life in Elizabethton and was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. She was a beautician and later worked at the Bemberg Corporation for several years. Her last employment was in the cleaning department of Ivy Hall Nursing Home. She was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Anna Mae McCoury, Pauline Gentry, Hazel Pleasant, Mary Cassar and Elmina Deloach, and five brothers, Clyde, Dana, J.G., William and Roscoe Deloach Jr. Survivors include her brother, Floyd "Bobby" Deloach, of the home, and several nieces and nephews. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Hugh T. and Hazel Caudill Grindstaff.
Carol was a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She retired from Shufford Mills in Granite Falls, N.C. She was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Rocky L. Tester; a granddaughter, Terrilynn Lewis; and a brother, Robert Grindstaff.
Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Diane Peayatte, Johnson City; four grandchildren, Matthew Lewis, Andy Lance Lewis, Stephen Steel Tester and Zoya Starr Tester; four great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Robert Lee Grindstaff II.

Jerry Wayne Grindstaff, age 74, went home to be with the Lord unexpectedly on Saturday morning, April 22, 2017 from the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.

He was the son of the late Robert Earl Grindstaff and Lora Shouse Grindstaff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only daughter, Rachel; his brothers, Tex Grindstaff and Joe Shouse; and one nephew, Robert Grindstaff.

Jerry was born in Carter County and graduated from Elizabethton High School. He was a member of Unaka Baptist Church, where he played the bass guitar. He worked at North American Rayon Corporation in the 3rd Unit until it closed. He had also worked in the DD Twisting, American Air Filter and retired from Snap-On Tools after 20 years of service. Most of all, Jerry will be remembered for the loving husband, father, brother and friend he was and will be missed by all that knew him.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Shirley Arnold Grindstaff; his sisters, Sheila Nidiffer and husband Larry, of Elizabethton, and Janice Calloway, of Elkhart, Indiana; one brother, Bob Grindstaff and wife Helen; one sister-in-law, Thelma Grindstaff, of Elizabethton; a brother-in-law, J.D. and Debra Arnold, also of Elizabethton; three nephews, T.J. Stephen Greene, Rev. Dennis Wilson and Rev. Walker Roberson, officiating. Music selections by his daughter, Rachel Grindstaff, as well as a solo by his sister, Sheila Nidiffer. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service on Wednesday; or at the residence at any time.

The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Tim Elsea, Mickey Rambo, Joe Buckles, Ronnie Heaton, Kirk Carrier, Lanny Peters, Tom Houghton, and Keith Browder. ELIZABETHTON - Bobby Gene Grindstaff, 73, Elizabethton went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, September 11, 2017 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Robert Earl & Lora Shouse Grindstaff. He served in the United States Army. Bobby was retired from Snap-On-Tools as an Electronic Technician. He was a member of Lynn Valley Baptist. He loved to play the Guitar, Banjo, Harmonica, sing in church, and collected old Westerns. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Robert Grindstaff, and three brothers: Jerry Grindstaff, Tex Grindstaff and Joe Shouse.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years: Helen Earnhardt Grindstaff. A Son: Michael Keith Browder and wife Angie Greene Browder. A Daughter: Selena Dawn Norris and Husband Johnny Norris, Jr. Two Sisters: Sheila Nidiffer & husband Larry Nidiffer and Janice Calloway. Kenneth Mitchel DeLoach, 66, Elizabethton passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late J.G. & Dorothy Nadine Ellis DeLoach. He was a 1966 graduate of Happy Valley High School. Kenneth was retired from Kennametal Inc. Following his retirement he was employed at Chaparral Pontiac-Buick and GMC, Johnson City. Kenneth was a member of the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years: Diane Lynn Weese DeLoach, October 2, 2013, a brother: Burlus DeLoach and a niece: Brandy Ann Hicks, a great nephew: Zack Brugh.
Survivors include his Children: Donna DeLoach, Elizabethton, Bryan DeLoach and wife Dawn, Gray and Shanna Roark and fiancé Brad Kirk, Telford. His Grandchildren: Gavin Roark, Gage DeLoach, Lola DeLoach, Harleigh DeLoach and Kendal DeLoach. Two Sisters: Dorothy Cooper and husband Dennis, Athens, Tenn., and Juanita Hicks and husband, David, Johnson City. A Brother: Victor DeLoach & wife Judy, Elizabethton. His Uncle Floyd DeLoach, and Aunts: Laura DeLoach and Elmina DeLoach. His Nieces & Nephews: Stacey Whitson and wife Melissa, Tiffany Jenkins and husband Gerald, Whitney Taylor and Victor "Vic" DeLoach, II Joseph Taylor & wife Leslie, all of Elizabethton, Russell Cooper and wife Beverly, Athens and Joey Garrison and husband Josh, Statesville, North Carolina, Angie Attkisson, Knoxville, TN. His Great Nephews: Bradley & Josh Whitson, Chris Cunningham, Trenton Taylor-Ricker and Nick Jenkins. A Service to celebrate the life of Kenneth DeLoach will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Mark Potter officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2014 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Megan Harsh and the Praise Choir, Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church and Jennifer Martin, Soloist.

JOHNSON CITY - Juanita DeLoach Hicks, age 68, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at her residence. Juanita was born in Carter County to the late JG DeLoach and Dorothy Nadine Ellis DeLoach. In addition to her parents, Juanita was also preceded in death by her daughter, Brandy Ann Hicks; her oldest brother, Burlus J. DeLoach and another brother, Kenneth M. DeLoach.
Juanita retired from Kennametal as a machinist and was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Jonson City.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, David M. Hicks, of the home; a sister, Dorothy F. Cooper (Dennis) of Athens, TN; a brother, Victor S. DeLoach (Judy) of Elizabethton, TN; a special adopted son, Charlie Norman (Beth) of Elizabethton; and a lifelong friend, Paula “Polly” Jones Grindstaff. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A graveside service to honor the life of Juanita DeLoach Hicks will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Hobbie McCreary officiating.
