JOHNSON CITY — William J. "Bill" Gentry, age 81, of Johnson City, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Cornerstone Village, Johnson City following a lengthy illness.
A native of Mountain City, TN, he was a son of the late Milton John and Chessie Severt Gentry. Mr. Gentry served in the Army National Guard. He was a member of a non-denominational Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Gentry was preceded in death by two sons, William Dean Gentry, Joseph C. Gentry; 2 sisters, Donna Kay Asbury and infant sister, Betty Gentry.
Survivors include his son, Jeff Gentry and wife Pam, Johnson City; two brothers, Bert Gentry, Milford, Delaware, Elmer Gentry, Houston, TX; sisters, Sue Manuel, Damascus, VA, Ruby Hanson, Blountville, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Gentry will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Friday, April 30, 2016, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Mr. Jerome Frandle and Mr. Laren Spellman, ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 until 12:00 noon in the East Parlor of the funeral home. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at Cornett Cemetery, Mountain City, following the funeral service at the funeral home. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
